Kai shook her head, a disgusted expression on her face As they watched a pair of men in a longboat, like the one in Yuke's dream, came to shore, dumping the dead body of a shark onto the beach, along with several others. Kai's eyes narrowed and the water underneath the boat began to boil. The boat caught fire, and the two men shouted, jumping out of the boat and scrambling for shore as their little boat sank into the shallow water, ashes.

Hakaru gently placed a hand on Kai's shoulder, trying to calm her down so she didn't injure anyone. Yet.
Lute jumped a little when the boat was consumed in flames. He wasn't used to actually seeing such violence and anger. And frankly, he was scared.

All three of the mermaids/mer-foxes were feeling rather full of fury. Kai wanted to shake off Hakaru's hand, but she didn't, holding herself still. Yuke, however, was not quite as calm. He grit his teeth together as the two men who'd been in the longboat headed towards the mismatched family. They were scruffy, clearly hired brawn. "Y'see that?" one asked, nodding at the company. "Crazy stuff happen' round here." "Prolly them mers," the other one muttered. Yuke, like his mother had, narrowed his eyes, and soon the sand under the mens' feet shifted, until they were buried up to their chins. They stared up at the family in shock.

Hakaru could sense his wife's fury and anger. He slowly backed off from her, pulling Lute from Chloe as to keep him safe as well. The fox didn't want the boy getting hurt. Those three were angry and there was going to be hell to pay.
Lut felt himself dragged from Chloe, looking up to see Hakaru. He didn't fight the man, betting he probably knew best at this moment.

Kai took the first steps forward, sinking to her knees in the sand and giving a sweet and dangerous smile to the two men. Yuke stood right behind her, and Chloe followed as well, tilting her head as she stared down at the two men in the sand. "Who do you work for? Which ship?" Kai asked in a voice that fell upon their human ears like a magic spell. Their pupils widened, and it was obvious that they were now both in a trance. "We work for Captain Sweeney. His ship is The Rising Coral." they answered together in monotone. Yuke swiveled his head, easily finding the ship they spoke of. He pointed out at it, and the men nodded in confirmation. Kai then put her hands on both their heads. At first, nothing seemed to happen. They both came out of the trance and looked around, disoriented. Then, water dripped down their scalps and into the sand. The sand turned to mud, then began to spiral, sinking them both in. Their muffled screams cut off a little later, and their eyes glazed over. Kai removed her hands, satisfied, and she followed Yuke's point with her eyes. The bodies disappeared, and moments later, frightened shouts could be heard on the ship. Yuke lowered his arm and looked away, out to the ocean which was still bloody.

Hakaru had dragged the boy far from the beach. Well not too far. Just far enough for them to talk and stay out of the foxes' way. He was currently trying to keep Lute awake. The boy was tired and nodding off. This was no time or place to fall asleep.

It didn't take long for the three to find their way into the water. They all wrinkled their noses as they swam away from the blood-covered surface, utterly disgusted. As they swam past a cave, suddenly an arm shot out and grabbed Kai's arm. Yuke was the fastest to react, pulling the hand off of his mother's arm and looking around for its source. From the cave swam out not one, not two, but at least a few dozen merpeople, all of them looking frightened and angry. The one who'd caught Kai's arm was a familiar looking merman. The very same one who'd helped Hakaru with his proposal. Kai moved around Yuke and swam easily to him, hugging him tightly and shaking her head. "What in the world is going on?" she asked her younger brother.

Hakaru sighed as he watched over Lute. The boy had fallen asleep. At least he wasn't tossing and turning. But he still seemed to have nightmares. He laid a towel over the boy to help him sleep in the shade of a nice large palm.

Kai's brother, Kapaʻa, explained to his family what had happened with the ocean. The men, greedy for money, had found an advertisement. The human's royal navy wanted to exterminate all the merpeople, since one of their greatest ships had been sunk by the merpeople. The entire race was being hunted down, and whatever got in the way, such as fish or dolphins, were being killed as well. "You say there are two humans on the beach now, with you?" Kapaʻa asked. Kai nodded, and he said that one of them would need to go back and make sure no harm fell to the two humans. Yuke immediately volunteered Chloe, wanting his daughter out of the doomed seas.
Chloe made it to the shore with no problems, and she looked around, finding her grandfather and Lute. She knelt down in the sand, wringing her hair out. "Heʻs having the nightmares?"

Hakaru looked up to see Chloe come out of the sea, and he nodded some. The fox sighed, looking to the boy. "He is. And I think they're melding with his own." he said, watching the boy struggle to sleep.

Chloe gently moved Lute's head to rest in her lap, and she stroked his hair from his forehead.
Kai and Yuke were brought into the cave and welcomed into the group of merpeople. Kai was much more comfortable with them, having known most of them at some point in her childhood, while her son hung back, looking much younger than he was as he stayed behind his mother at all times. The situation was much graver that Kapaʻa had let on. Most of the people in the cave were starving, now. There were no children anymore, and there were several couples who sat in the corners of the cave, crying or staring blankly at having lost their children in the massacre. Everyone had dirty faces and empty hands. Kai felt a combination of extreme anger, and sadness. "E hoʻi mai ana au me kokua," Kai promised them, before she and Yuke left. They followed Chloeʻs footprints through the sand to find Hakaru, Lute, and Chloe. [OOC:]* I will return with help.

Lute settled a little, sensing Chloe close to him. But it still didn't help. The nightmares still haunted him relentlessly. The poor boy was sweating in his sleep, groaning occasionally.
Hakaru looked to see his wife and son return. "What happened love?"

Kai just shook her head and started muttering to herself in her native language. So Yuke rubbed the back of his neck and sat down next to his parents. "Basically, the humans are out to kill all the merpeople. Every last one of them. Thereʻs a cave that some of them have hidden in, but thatʻll only last so long. They need food, and they canʻt get it. They really just canʻt sit in that dirty cave for the rest of their lives."

Hakaru sighed, hearing their predicament. "How can I help?" he asked, knowing Lute full-well couldn't. Especially at the moment.

"Tsā! Aʻole!" Kai said, smacking her husband in the back of the head. "Youʻre not helping," she told him, standing. "Itʻs dangerous for you two to be on the beach. The sea wonʻt differentiate just because we ask her to."
