"....-er Maria. I said, Preacher Maria. Trainee, you're up next!"
With a start, she walked forward, eying the harness. She shrugged. She plainly had not been paying attention to her classmates, zoning out enough that she had missed her name thrice. With a street-born grace, Preacher absentmindedly swung herself up into the contraption. Bone-creakingly slowly, it hoisted her up until her feet could never reach the ground. She balanced easily, weight settling into the straps around her legs. Huh, she thought, it weren't so bad after all. She bounced a little and swung back and forth, shifting her weight from leg to leg.
The movement was... kind of soothing, she supposed.

Santos was screaming again. His bellowing voice carried that same grating tone that it usually did, but he was walking about far more animatedly than he had during previous interactions with the man.
"Listen up, you wanna-be military bloodstains! What you're going to learn here today - with me as your self-appointed mentor - is how to swing between some big, strong, unforgiving trees. And if you end up splattered against one, well, that's one less mouth that we'll have to feed around here."
Santos grinned. Nobody else smiled.
"You have already been through some 3DMG gear training with Gazelle. Now, let me tell you something. Gazelle knows what she's talking about when it comes to theoretical use of 3DMG. You sit in a little swing and you bob around and if you're good at it, you sit upright. If you're bad at it, you blow chunks all over yourself. So you pups must be good at it, because now you've fallen into my capable hands, and we're about to go swinging through some trees so that you can get a better feel for your gear."
He paused.
"You ever fly through the air so fast your eyeballs felt like they were gonna pop through the back of your head? No?"
He rubbed his hands together.
"You're in for a real treat."
Santos grinned broadly, toothily, and clapped his hands loudly.
"Suit up, and get your keesters moving. I'm looking forward to you all peeling yourselves off the ground. Been looking forward to it all week."Week 2 HOW THIS WORKS!!!There are a series of 10 trees that you have to alternate between. You have to make it through 8 of 10 trees in order to pass! The Mechanics!!Roll eight 4-sided dice.For every EVEN NUMBER that you roll, you have successfully dodged a tree!! For every ODD NUMBER that you roll, you have either hit a tree face on, or grazed against a tree hard enough that you've damaged your gear, or hurt yourself, or something else that suits the exercise. How you RP it out is completely up to you! You will need to run through the course again by re-rolling 8d4 until your cumulative reaches 8 dodges. So if I get 2, 4, 1, 3, 2, 4, 1, 4 on the first roll, I will need to reroll and hope for at least three more even numbers. You do NOT have to roll 8 evens in a row, just CUMULATIVE. That means that as long as you have EIGHT MISSES TOTAL, you have passed this portion of the course!! Yesenia poked curiously at the 3DMG at her thighs. They'd been through the theory on it, of course, but never actually used them before. Firing off, she quickly slammed into a series of trees, dodged one, then clipped the rest.
At least she got one?

Zinnia flew through the air on her 3DMG, doing her best to stay level. As she dodged her first tree, she felt a thrill; she felt right. It was physically challenging, but the speed and height was exhilarating. This was truly what it meant to be in the military.
Then she missed her next shot and bounced off a tree painfully. The rest of the course was difficult, and she only managed to dodge half of the trees. By the end of it, she was feeling bruised and disappointed. She cheered herself up with the thought that hardly anyone made it through on their first try, and picked herself up to try again.

Having gone back to the starting tree, she launched off again. After clipping a tree, she dodged the next one, then began a series of clipping and dodging trees alternatedly.
Huh, that was weird.

Hit: 5 Dodge: 11 Zinnia's second time through the course was nearly flawless. She grazed one tree, but managed to flow through the rest of the course smoothly; she was finally getting the hang of using her gear. By the end of the course, she was beaming with pride. Finally, things were going her way! She wouldn't have to worry about falling behind again. I've made it! Standing atop the tree branch, Amalia took a deep breath and shot off. She clipped the first four trees, but handily dodged the rest.

This should be easy! Martino beamed excitedly to himself. It was questionable in and of itself knowing the teal-haired artist was so positive of the feat even though he had a terrible failure with the balance contraption, but his positivity and enthusiasm never diminished. As others took to the air, so did he, and made an attempt at dodging the required amount of trees.
His first run, obviously was disappointing. Still getting used to the forward momentum up in the air (and finding himself lost in a lofty reverie as he found the wind to be pleasant in his face), Martino crashed into a plethora of trees while deftly avoiding only a few. He was positive his second try would be better.

'Here goes.' Dark brown eyes scanned the course and he watches a few of the other trainees go through with varying levels of success. It was understandable now, why Shakuntala had become so nervous back on that day. Remembering the shock his body had gotten from smacking face first into the tree was not pleasant and he did not want to do it again. Hopefully the ten seconds of practice before he and Hwan had been taken down would count for something now.
They didn't.
"Dammit!" He winced as he ran the course and only managed to dodge two trees of the eight. Santos would have a good laugh at that. Trudging out of the way so others could finish behind him, Jeong headed back to try again, wishing Hwan luck.

He hadn't been kidding about the eyeball thing.
"Augh-" Hwan soared through the air, struggling as he overcorrected and twisted through the trees as if there were a terrible windstorm. After that first run with Shun and the others and the swing, his nerves had bubbled up in his stomach a little but... now that he was out here doing it, it wasn't as bad as he'd expected. His body grazed against a few of the trees but he managed to dodge three out of the eight. The feeling of flight felt good now that he was adjusting to it and the free feeling of being in complete control of his movement would stick with him. This was what he wanted.
"Phew! Jeong, let's go again!" He landed and looked for his partner in crime with a foolishly happy smile warming up his face.

Larisa had finally been able to get her balance straightened out, but it was hard to get that first smash out of her mind. Coupled with the still very fresh memories of their ill-fated practice session, she was a little bit terrified to head into the trees. She managed, just barely, to squash that feeling down before her turn came, firmly reminding herself that this was why she was here, and then it was time to try again. This time was so much better than the last, though she scraped by several trees, and by the time she reached the end of the course she tallied it up in her head. She'd completely dodged four of the trees!
It was nowhere near perfect, but it was a start!
(4 dodged!)

Martino couldn't help his wonderment. It felt like he was floating; the weight of the ground beneath his feet a passed memory as he glided through the air. His concentration was hardly on the fact that he was using the 3DMG. So he banged himself up against a few more trees and hand to take a moment of catching onto a nearby tree to steady himself.
Letting out a breath as he felt a bruise form on the side of his face, he muttered, "Esto es difícil..."

His last run was hardly noteworthy, but his work was done after successfully passing through the minimum amount of trees. His body ached all over; from the core of his stomach to his legs, to the bruise that was burnishing a dark purple under layers of tan skin. How he managed to survive was beyond him, but he was slowly beginning to regret having signed up for 3DMG.
