Ohshitohshit. What was that thing and what was it even doing here? Had it killed all these people?? It was going to kill them too, ohshitohshi-- Oh right. Monsters. Fighting. ********. "Okay then, here we go," he muttered under his breath. He held a hand out to the side and Ardavan appeared there in his full-size form. With a yell, Tedan then picked one of the spines on the monster to aim at, hoping that he actually managed to hit it and not just look like an idiot here. (( HP: 40/40 Target: Boss Damage: 2 Charge Attack Powerup: 1/3 ))

"One of the bigger ones I've seen, but yeah. The group we ran into were a bunch of human-looking mockeries and closer to our size..sans a big one. Ohhh, it was a big one. I'll tell you the story sometime. I actually have one of their shoes." she laughed, but it was dry, humorless.
No really, she had one of their shoes. A boot, at that. A boot that had gone for her head and gotten Jude instead. Still, she wasn't liking this. How many others had gone down because of those spines? Did she just have killer luck that day? That had to be it, she guessed.
Still, Cass was on her toes, not literally, but...she definitely was getting wired. Nicodemus approved of the adrenaline.

Yep. Jerry seemed to be okay for the most part. Though, Ryan still wasn't quite sure what was going on in his head, but a response, no matter how little or what form, was better than nothing and at least now he stopped that creepy humming.
"You okay..?" He asked again, tapping him on the shoulder to get his his attention when he had scrambled back. Thankfully, far enough that he could reach him. "How bad did you get hit?"
To make matters worse, was not only did they get hit, but they were actually laying among the very corpses they had been trying to move earlier. Worse, now that his mask was removed and he was seeing more than he wanted to.
"Ugh..."

Aleister had jumped when Minnie slid to a stop beside him. " Oh hi Minerva, glad to see your okay." He added with a pause having half pondered to introduce the girls but not sure if this was the time or the place. He caught the glance, giving a small shrug looking worried behind the mask, " Having a healthy fear of things can keep you alive...... I hope..." Yeahh they probably weren't suppose to be afraid..... He'd deal with that later. He frowned, " No wonder I hated shadows...." He added after he heard Cass' answer, a big one? He nodded at that particular mention wordlessly. Though the fear was sorta driving him to want to try to beat the thing. Maybe that'd help cure the jumpiness of the shadows? Or Maybe it was just pookie constantly insulting him at the moment that made him want to bash the thing...

Vanessa had just nodded to Ceres before they had turned to follow the Moon Hunter back toward the tents, empty handed. They'd lost the body they were pulling up, and Vanessa felt the guilt gnaw a bit on her mind. That could've been someone's family, but now it was out here, dead. This realization only bolstered Vanessa's determination to protect the people she cared for and to make the world a safer place for everyone.
As the Moon Hunter discussed something with Caelius via head-gear, Vanessa heard a strange vibration, as if something like a train was coming toward them. When the monstrous thing breached the sand, Vanessa found herself reeling back, hoping to escape getting impaled on the large, jutting bones. Unfortunately, her reflex wasn't good enough, and the spines slashed through Vanessa's hasty dodge, throwing her back a good distance. Her breath was knocked out of her from this hit, and she had to take a moment to regain it. Ergh, shoot she couldn't protect her partner, not right now, anyway. "Sorry, looks like you'll have to fend it off without me for the moment." She said between breaths, hoping Ceres might be able to hear her.
Health: 30/40
Status: Disabled for this round.

"I don't..-- aughhhh." She'd put on the mask as Jordan had instructed, securing it tightly enough.. but even the mask couldn't completely keep out that awful stench, and she found herself clinging to his back, clutching at his jacket.
During their trial there had been death, and lots of it, yes, but.. not awful, decomposed bodies oh god what was that what was Jordan doing--
he's following orders, shouldn't you as well, hmm?
"Reine, get it's ankles, if you can."
She swallowed hard, whimpering audibly as she forced her hand off his jacket, wading through the sludge. P...pretend it's sewage, she thought. Yeah. Just.. something made a huge mess here it's not dead bodies it's not..
As she was about to reach for the ankles they moved and she screamed, running back to hide behind Jordan. He could laugh at her or tease her later, she didn't care about that right now. The ground under them all was shaking, rising up- she had no idea even what was happening, but following her instincts she grabbed Jordan and jumped, before the creature surfaced completely.
Oh god. More of the grey stuff, and it was all over her.. fishing in her pocket for the earrings, she tossed out a bit of bone and more sludge, before finally finding them. Mental note to self: not wearing this jacket again. Ever. NOT.

Unlike some of the others, Reine hadn't been hit by the monster- yet. That was some comfort, at least, and the adrenaline rush helped to keep her focused on the monster, instead of the decomposed bodies around.
Gripping Alynthe hard, she ran up to the monster and swung, but the blade got stuck in bone, and she struggled a little to pull it back out.
keep that up and you'll be in halloween in no time, hehehehehehe!
...huh?
just focus on your fight, darling.
It was the first time she'd heard that edge to Alynthe's voice; she sounded almost angry and somewhat tense.

"If it's heavy then that means we actually got a full one." Candace almost sounded relieved as she said this. She'd rather not get to the top and find out they had each been carrying two halves of two different bodies. Her stomach lurched unhappily just thinking about it. She finally placed the body down when they reached the top, sighing and wiping her hands off on her coat with a noise of disgust. She could feel her legs covered in whatever had been down there. Gross. Gross. Gross! She was taking at least ten showers when she got home! ... If she got home from the sounds of it. Candace's eyes widened as Julie's voice shrieked into her ear, slowly turning her gaze toward the tent where Caelius and the body bags were safely hidden away. What? A secret? Did he not realize they could all hear hi-- "You've gotta be ******** kidding me." Candace's head whipped around in search of the source of the roar, stumbling and nearly falling over as the sand beneath her moved. Gah! Nononono! "An earthquake? Oh no. That was no ********> A spine hit her leg and she fumbled away from it. ********! If she got cut and then got an infection from this stuff getting in it she was going to be pissed! But there were more important matters to be concerned about, like the bigass monster that had just revealed itself to them.
"Let's go, Atropos." Candace summoned her, the rings vanishing so that the boots of her weapon appeared.
The boots appeared, flashed bright purple and changed into rings again. Candace's eyes widened. "Atropos. Now is not the time..!"

The vibrations did not go unnoticed by Ceres either. She was looking forward to getting the glop and... whatever fluids from the bodies was on her hands off, but it looked like it would have to wait. Mask still on, she was already turning aorund to see what all the mess was... Ceres! Behind you!
She had barely enough time to turn around, hearing both Vanessa's and Takeru's cries out to her before a barb sunk home into her flesh. Hissing out in pain, the world turned white for a moment... and she found herself unable to move either. Looking up with a slight crack of a ironic laugh, she turned back to Vanessa with a grimace. "Well, we know why the bodies were so messy now."  HP: 30/40 Status: Disabled!

Perhaps he was right about healthy fears and his dislike for shadows, although Minnie couldn't say any of hers were healthy in the least...
Sand clung to her coat and scarf in clumps as she rose to her feet and brushed off with half-hearted effort. She kept her eyes trained to the beast's form, catching only glimpses of students being flung by spikes. A hand reached out to them, feet readying to move before she paused.
Right...
"Same to you, Aleister and..." Minerva hesitated for a moment, glancing over to the girl at his side with a nod. The same went for Cass.
From the looks of things those who had taken some damage were not mortally wounded, and were hastily finding placement amongst the wary hunters encircling the monster. She waited, like the rest, breathing heavily while their next move seemed completely up to chance; What was that thing?

So very glad to get out of that dank and dark place, as she didn't know how much longer she would have freaked out if they had to stay there any longer. She hoped that they didn't have to go back to get more samples. If Tori wasn't wearing a mask Before would have seen her little sheepish smile. "Your right about that, I did. Well I don't know if I have a photographic memory, I just think I have a good memory or maybe its from reading the same books over and over," she replied as it was true she had as it was the only thing she could do when one couldn't go outside very much. This wasn't what she had in mind a mission would be like, but then she really didn't know what to expect. The heat did make Tori feel a little better. "Yes it would be," But just as they lowered the body on to the sand. Hearing the voice of Caelius over there headsets about wanting the Moon Hunter back at the base, Tori sighed a little as she motioned to Before to pick up his part of the body to were they could walk back with it. "Lets get this done and over with, ok?" She just wanted to get back to the base and wash her hands or something and not have to look at another body for the rest of the mission. Glad to hear to were they were to put the bodies, but once that tent flap had opened. Tori was just in shock on just how many of those bags were in there and she could feel herself start to freaking out. Once getting to were the empty bags were. "Ok, lower your end, Before and I will zip it all up,"
Aklin said in a soothing voice as he knew how she was feeling. Once the bag was all zipped up, Tori grabbed Before's hand and walked quickly out of the tent with him in tow, to were they had been told the water was. Breathing heavily once out side as she plopped onto the sand and buried her hand in it. "I'm sorry about that but all those bags...I just needed to get out of there and I just thought my first mission wouldn't be doing that," Her own dark memories were trying to surface and she quickly squashed those thought away and wanted to do a good job on her first mission too and having totaling freaking melt down wouldn't be a good thing. Pulling out her hand as they did now feel a little less gross. Getting up she got some water and canvas and brought some it for the both of them and she started to clean her hands up. She knew that once they got back to her room she was going to see if she could find something that would help with the smell she knew would stick to them. Dropping and kicking the canvas away from herself when she heard Caelius talking about something over the headset, then hearing it buzz from a low roar and the vibrations in the sand and then projections coming out of the sand. "Bloodly Hell," As she couldn't believe that one of those shadow creatures were here right now. "Watch out!!!" She called out to Before as she moved away and just missed being hit by one of those bony projectiles and hope that her fellow Lifer would be alright. Hp:40 Huni Pi Sorry for this being late.

"Cass." the more experienced hunter bid with a nod to Minerva, moving again to start pacing in front of the pair. Yes, she was just as fleshy and likely to die as either of them, but she was wired. She had experience an she needed to react to this situation. This thing wasn't spewing flames and death down upon everybody like had been the case in that canyon.
This was fine.
"Don't forget to watch your back, we might be fighting, but we're not knights of honor. Maybe in the past, but we're allowed to fight in any way possible against these creatures, because they won't always fight fair either."
It was true, as she saw it. She'd seen these things mob Caelius with no sense of decor while he was being attacked by the large creature. He'd recovered from it cleanly, an impressive feat in and of itself, and won. But never the less, she'd taken it as a sign that she too did not have to play 'fair'.
There was no fair in this place.
"Alright, that thing will attack again soon, you guys keep on your toes and be ready to move.." she paused, looking to Minerva again. "Where's your partner?"

OH GOD, OH GOD, OH GOD, I can't believe that I'm going to be doing this as I haven't got a clue how to use you properly, Aklin. Tori freaking out as she didn't want to mess this compleatly up but she didn't practice at all before as she had spent time talking with Aklin.
He told her and she could feel him smerking at the last bit he told her and excited too.
Not now and Ok. She had calmed down a little were she could do this as she wanted to impress that she wasn't a let down or at least try and protect her fellow Lifer too. She could so do this!
Aklin just sounded more excited as that was something different and it infected her as well.
Tori just nodded as she ran towards the creature and slashed at the creatures legs.

All of that was good advice. And the question posed for Minerva specifically?...Well...that was a good question.
"Petra..." She murmured to Cass, as if hoping the hunter would know the name and mention having seen her recently..."I couldn't find her at the site, and I haven't seen her since then. I don't even know if she followed us out and back...We didn't get a chance to say very much to one another before the search. I--" She looked to her left and right, keeping pace with Cass. "I don't know where she is, but I have a feeling she hasn't been hurt. At least not yet." This went for all of them, really. Anything could happen according to the older hunter.
It would probably be a good idea to keep an eye out for the girl...

"Petra Walker, I think. I've met her in passing. I'll keep an eye open for her..." Not that she was sure who would be what shape in passing with these heat masks on. Either way... "For now, I'll cover you until we can find her, so stick close, mmkay?" she offered. Yes, it was extra work, but like the body she'd practically killed herself to get transported back to the tent, Cass was going to make sure people were accounted for.
Still, it bothered her that someone had lost their partner already...
