In other news: I'm trying to make a microwave heat bag. I have one that's filled with corn. I also have one with flax. The corn one is best because it gets hotter and stays hotter longer. However, no matter what I try with my own, I end up with a fire in my microwave. I am not kidding.

Since my bag is made from corn because I can feel it and it was on the label, I went and bought feed corn. It pops.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

My hubby and I made heat bags with cracked corn and it worked well. I didn't think of trying rice, but I think I will give that a spin myself! For an added treat, add dried lavender flowers too. It smells so good and lavender is healthy as well.

We have Value World, which I think is similar to Value Village. I got two pairs of jeans for my daughter for about $5, and all I had to do was hem up the bottoms today. I love my sewing machine!

Perhaps if you heat it up in smaller intervals. Like heat for a few seconds take it out, shake it and distribute the heated parts and stick t back for another few seconds.

This is the corn I have:

The corn in my heat bag (with instructions to heat 2 minutes, 30 seconds) feels like the same type. I've done rice, but corn heat lasts longer and smells nice. And I have a 40lb bag of it in my garage. gonk

I test it by microwaving it with cloth over it. Either the cloth burns and catches on fire (Quaker oatmeal) or just burns (chick peas). Really scratching my head over it.

I happen to have acquired a Hot plate...Alton brown is my favorite chef on the food network. So i will construct roughly from his instructions my very own food smoker. I'm building mine inside of either a large terra cotta pot or out of a steel trashcan that i've got. Grill racks happen to fit inside of trash cans and have great little handles that'll make it easy to pull em out. More time needs to be put into this but it will be done.

I guess that when the wind blows your paint out of the brush in long strings that don't even hit the house, it's too windy to paint. Getting frustrated here! I guess I could lay some brick for a patio. I don't think it's too windy for that. wink

I found out that the contract with my school to prevent them from cutting down any trees is about to expire.

Last year my college planned on building a hotel on the campus to encourage more guest visitors and to start up a hospitality program. But in turn they would have mow down about 50+acres or so to build it.

Earlier this year I read in the school newspaper that the contract for the hotel was halted.

But now, the school is waiting for the contract to expire, so they can cut the trees down "IN CASE THE HOTEL PAPER WORK GETS EXCEPTED"

I found this out from protesters outside of Admin today.

They also cut out the pictures on the virtual tour on the university website of the area they are planning of demolishing. >( why didn't I find out sooner!?

Haven't started on putting my smoker together, can't decide what size galvanized trash can i should use...contemplating what i intend to smoke frequently with it and how big of a container i would require for that.

Got an awesome catalog the other day for a company called duluth trading company. They've got all sorts of clothes for guy's and whatnot and i'm tempted to buy a pair of pants that they've got advertised. Being a fairly active do it yourself kind of guy i tend to go through pants and work shirts really quick from getting them stained with oil or grease, blood, not to mention the rips and tears and just generally moving around in them so much that they become threadbare. But these pants have a guarantee that if you ever wear them out or rip them or whatever they'll replace them. So i'm tempted just a little. It also helps that their cargo pants with like 11 pockets because i tend to be carrying a ton of stuff in my pockets usually and regular khaki's and jeans just don't hold up.

Also for Christmas i'm planning on purchasing some more steel and handle material for knives that i plan on making. One at least will be a gift to a friends father who really needs to get some good kitchen cutlery because i couldn't even de-bone the venison roast i was cooking at his place the other day.

Whistler did this for the 2010 Olympics. They cut down a lot of trees thinking they'd put in a podium or something, but it fell through. So there was a clear cut in the middle of the Village; no trees; no podium. It was a disaster. I'd definitely petition that with all my might. neutral

@ Pirhan---I don't think a Jackson Pollock house would work, especially since, when my husband was painting the trim, I got him to tone down the trim color---told him it reminded me of the circus. Shame on me. I did get to paint a little last night, the wind suddenly died! So there is a second coat on 2 sides now, and half of the 3rd, nothing on the 4th, yet.

And just now, it started to rain! LOL Oh well.

I hear you on venison. Deer season starts here in 2 days, and they are expecting a huge harvest. Good thing, too------since so many people are out of work, the donated venison will be a good thing. I'm just hoping to lay in a good supply of venison jerky. I'll have to hide it, though, or it will disappear as soon as it's finished.

@ Teh-Plague-----any misses sizes in those pants? I'm a pocket fanatic!

Really bad day...i ended a friendship and it may land a person in the mental hospital...thats what i did today...city=drama

@pirhan: I don't shoot i just cut it up and cook it lol.

@sunset: I can't wait for some venison sausages and brats this year because i didn't get any last year. Im with you on the donated venison though because despite the news saying unemployment is going down all i see around this town is stuff getting worse. I work in the grocery industry and i'm watching week by week as people cut back to the bare minimum of rice, pasta, beans, and the cheapest protein sources they can add to it. We've got grocery stores that are going out of business because people are cutting their average grocery bills by half because they can barely afford food.
Oh and i think the pants are mens only unfortunately but they come in any combination of i believe 28 inseam to 36 inseam and a 30 waist all the way to 50 (mens sizes of course) Every possible combination in those sizes.
Their website is duluthtrading.com they have womens clothes on the website but the pants have far less pockets.

@Teh-Plague-----sorry about the drama. Ending friendships is never easy, but that's part of life. People come and go, and very few of them are friends for life. Sometimes there is a good surprise at the end of the bad times with ex-friends, though-----I have kept people in my prayers for years and seen them again years later, with minds clear and lives productive, and the friendships have been restored. Don't know your situation, but sometimes things work out very well in the end.

Unemployment is a real problem for lots of people. My brother-in-law lost his job in January. He has been able to pick up a couple of temporary jobs, but is presently out of work again. He is 52, and lost a job that paid well that he had been working for many, many years. There's lots of that. Pre-med son in a good-sized college town can't find a part-time job, although he has experience in lots of different fields. There you go. Come on, deer season! All God's children gotta eat!

Thanks for the website. I'm definitely checking that out!
