One of my friends told me that they ran a campaign with a few newbies (to D&D), and the fourth edition was actually easy for them to understand and get. I've wanted to play ever since I've heard that lol...
...cause 3.5 was still confusing. sweatdrop That, and the people I was playing with only half-explained things.

Honestly, from what little I know of D&D, they were watching animu and decided to snazz up the game with some qualities therein. People just get back up and have wilder abilities, it seems.

I'm starting a campaign here on gaia in an rp guild I mod in surprised
I have two people and need a few more players, were using 3.5 but so far the two players seem interested in 4th mrgreen
I wanna get 4th so badly.
You are right though Kairos, I can testify to that, I am a noob myself.. I mean.. not any more.. I'm pretty quick study and quite good with rping so it helped, but I played 4th edition once and It made sense, theres a bit to remember but over all it wasn't very difficult to understand 3nodding
for those interested in my online D&D Campaign PM me, I'm starting it tomorrow at around 1-2PM mountain time, probably play a couple times a month if things work out well, it depends on my time and that of my players ninja
I'm amazed though, I found the rules for 3.5 easy enough to get with a little help, thank you for the aid Fenrir 4laugh , but if I had to compare the two, 4th edition is much easier for new players, but it lacks some of the flavor of 3.5 where your more able to create a character YOU like, everythings easier to follow though 3nodding

Okay, i've done some research, and here are some official answers.
Duskblade is cool. It seems mostly balanced, perhaps a slight bit powerful, but nothing that makes me stare and go 'wtf'. If anyone wants to play a Duskblade, i'm cool with that.
The Arcane Disciple feat is fine, too.
HOWEVER. Favored Soul. Perhaps i'm missing something, but isn't it a little bit godawful powerful?I see no reason whatsoever to play a Cleric if I have that available. On that note, I really don't see a reason to play a Sorcerer either. It can cast more spells per day, on the fly than a Cleric, the spell selection is as large as any amount of spells a cleric will normally be using anyway, which means they have a large advantage there. They lose turning undead, sure, but they make up for it with a plethora of other abilities they gain. The saves are a huge difference, as well. The only real downside i'm seeing to playing one is the lack of heavy armor that a cleric would get, which is extremely easy to work around with a simple expenditure of a feat, or by pumping up your dex.
Then comparing it to Sorcerer, a class of a similar vein, it has an advantage over it in every single arena, with the exception of casting divine spells as opposed to arcane. Even so, it gets more spells per day. So, my official stance is until someone can point out to me why it IS balanced, i'm not going to allow that one. As far as I can tell, it just has way to many advantages over every other normal class, and even some prestige classes.
Anything else I need to look up while I have access to a bajillion books?

Thanks Fenrir for doing all that homework! I think to keep things simple I'll dual class Fighter/Cleric, possibly taking 1 level in Duskblade down the road if I want to make an Arcane Archer.
If you don't have the need for someone to play a healer role, then I'll go Duskblade/Fighter, so let me know if somebody is volunteering the healer role...

I don't think it counts but my guy does a combo of non magic healing and a bit of magic healing at later levels when first aid just wont cut it

First aid ain't quite the same thing as real healing.
But yeah, feel free to play what you want. I don't think there is a lot of volunteer for healers right now, though.

So I still need to flesh out my character's details, but what's the next step in getting a game going?

Rinith Cresent I would but I know little of greyhawk... or any world really XD I'm assuming the request that games be played in the Greyhawk world means that we can't bring in details of Eberron or Faerûn or the other, extra details of specific worlds that are officially made by D&D. Basically Greyhawk is your standard, medieval, magical, fantasy world with the races and monsters in the Players Handbook and Monster Manual. It also has the deity pantheon explained in the Players Handbook. Which is too bad 'cuase I'd love to play a Warforged from Eberron (Living Construct, basically a walking statue brought to life. Very cool.) So the Greyhawk world is run by Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Halflings and Gnomes. Half-Orcs and Half-Elves exist, either by descending from Humans and the other race, or multiple generations of Half-Orcs and Half-Elves. Common Monsters include Goblins and their kin, Orcs, Trolls, Giants, Dragons, elemental creatures, Fey and various Fairy Folk, Satyrs and Centaurs, Minotaurs and Lots (and lots) of types of undead, for elegant Vampires, rotting zombies and your basic, run-of-the-mill walking skeleton. Basically If you've watched (or better yet, read) the Lord of the Rings series and Chronicles of Narnia, you've got a good idea of the world of Greyhawk. Here's a link to the Wizards.com website for info on the world of Greyhawk, this link will take you out of Gaiaonline. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=lg/welcomeIf anyone can clarify, build on, refine or refute my explanation, feel free to help me explain this.

I know the basics of most of the common "realms" heck, Iv found ways to send people between them, sadly most are quite dangerous and and all are unpredictable with out spending a lot of time learning how they work. I don't have any maps for grey hawk, I don't need and campaigns, but if I knew where to get a good amount of maps it would help. I tend to rp in a world my friends and me made due to a lack of money to buy more then the basic core rule books
