Kalena smiled as the other owners introduced themselves one after the other. She was amused when Jahi purred and pawed playfully at Nash. A curious smile curled up on her lips, but it quickly faded when a small kitten wandered into the coffee shop unattended. When the owner eventually arrived, she raised a disappointed eyebrow at Joop. She kept her disapproving commentary to herself so as not to rile any feathers.
Jahi rolled over onto his back, wrapping his paws gently around the end of Kalena's silk scarf. Rubbing his belly gently with one hand, she sipped her tea with the other.
"What line of work are each of you in?" Kalena smiled, setting her cup back in its saucer and resting it on the table in front of her.

Kyt smiled and waved back at Nash. Kalena, she remembered, had begun another conversation starter.
"I'm Kyt, it's nice to meet everyone." She tried to make eye contact with everybody. Hecate jumped out of her bag and onto the table to sit in front of Jahi. "And that's Hecate," she continued dryly. Hecate ignored her, tail batting around as she watched Jahi. "She's a little mischevious. Actually, that's not the right word. But forgive her if she bothers you." She pulled at Hecate's tail. Hecate glared at Kyt.
"Anyway, I'm into architecture at the moment. Designing houses and the like. Mostly libraries in the house and bedrooms. I'm also into writing and computers." There, she participated. She felt much better, now.

Jahi gave out a tiny cry when Hecate dashed across the table to stop in front of him. His ears sagged slightly and he shied away, burying his face in Kalena's dress. Shaking her head, Kalena stroked Jahi's back gently in an attempt to calm him down.
"She's not going to hurt you, Jahi," Kalena cooed, as Jahi lifted his head slowly. "Be polite and say hello to Hecate."
Jahi turned his wide eyes from Kalena to the small black and white uluen. He nervously walked across Kalena's lap, lifting himself up onto his hind legs and resting his front paws on the table. Looking at Hecate looming over him, Jahi gave her a shy nod before resting his chin on his own paws.
"You design libraries, Kyt," Kalena mused. "I might need to get your business card because I might be in need of a new one soon enough."

Kyt chuckled at Jahi's antics.
"He's adorable; I don't blame him for running away."
Hecate crouched on the table and winked at Jahi.
"Yes, of course. I have one, somewhere," she replied, digging around in her bag. "Ah ha!" she cried triumphantly. "Here you go, feel free to drop by or give me a call." Her outstretched hand moved across the table to offer the small piece of paper to Kalena.

"I'll certainly do that, Kytora," Kalena said, carefully slipping the business card into her planner. "What about everyone else? What brings you to this part of the country? It's not a thriving metropolis or anything."
Kalena sipped her tea, chuckling lightly as Hecate winked at Jahi. Wondering what the little black and white uluen had in mind for her little boy. Boosting him up on the table, she stroked his back before pushing him forward a little. His paws clumsily slid out from underneath him. Looking over his little shoulder at Kalena, Jahi looked frighted and suprised to be laying at Hecate's feet.
"Don't look at me like that, Jahi," Kalena smiled, sipping her tea. "It would be good for you to make friends."

"Sounds good." Kyt winced slightly as Jahi tumbled to lay at Hecate's paws. "Hecate," she muttered as a warning. The Dumyr continued to ignore her.
Hecate grinned at the male, nosing him on the shoulder. Surprisingly, she wasn't trying anything...mischevious. Yet. And that was what Kyt was afraid of.
Hecate lay down in front of him as well, blinking innocently. Kyt snickered half-heartedly, wondering what she was up to.
"If you wouldn't mind watching these two, Kalena, I'm about to get me something to drink. I'm parched. Would anyone else like anything?" Kyt commented, turning to the others gathered around the table.

He watched the two young ones, moving to sit down a few seats away ... where he could see pretty much the whole room, and thus, what trouble Veth might get into.
He shrugged slightly at Kalena's question. "Far and I sort of just ... ended up here." After all, that was more or less the truth and they could make of it what they would. "Neither of us really has jobs or anything, so ... if anyone's looking for help ..."

Kalena's eyebrow raised at Nashorme's confession that both he and Farlest were unemployed, new arrivals to the area. It gave her an uncomfortable feeling to see people with no direction. Feeling her bag vibrate against her leg, Kalena took out her mobile phone. It was the parent of a student in her homeroom.
"I'm sorry. I have to take this call," Kalena said, rising to her feet. Excusing herself and Jahi from the conversation. Taking the kitten in one arm and her bag in the other. Kalena scooted out of the table and exited the cafe.

Farlest had seen that look before, though for different reasons. He glanced over at Nash and put his hands on the table, stretching slightly, much to Mirrao's annoyance...the kitten batting at his caretaker's dark hair with murmured irritation.
The elf scratched an ear as a peace offering, which his little charge begrudgingly accepted...purring as though he was afraid his guardian might actually hear him. "Hmm...I don't think we precisely are projecting an aura of security there, Nash..." He observed.

He shrugged slightly. "Well ... s'true. But it's not like we don't have -any- money," he mumbled back to the other. Some of the random baubles they'd inevitably picked up in their travels seemed to be quite prized here.
They had sold off several of them to pay the first month's rent on the house they'd found. "And I'm sure with our ... skills ... we'll be able to find some work soon."

spaceJoop ordered a drink, "Hold the ice," he proclaimed, knowing it wouldn't survive should Ante find out about its existence. He'd needed to catch his breath after running around town for nearly an hour looking for a curiously playful kitten who, as told, should've been sleeping most'f the day. "Things just work out differently around here," he thought, staring blankly at Ante trying to get to Veth.
spaceRealizing what he was seeing, Joop snapped out'f'is day dream, and decided to attempt to retrieve the playful dumyr. "Please behave," he whispered in Antediluvian's ear quietly. Though Farlest made a calming gesture, Joop still wasn't sure about how horribly a mess he'd made of things already, and rathered not making it worse.
spaceHe scurried to the four-legged child, sure he'd get to him before he managed to climb anything. A quick tap on the shoulder stopped the child, but it didn't slow him down at all. As Joop scooped his ward into his arms, Ante squirmed and screamed. It was remnant of a tortured cat crossed with a not so thrilled toddler; ghastly.
space"He's usually much better behaved than this," Joop lied to his audience as eyes seemed to fall upon the two. After hearing everyone's names and those names of their progeny, "I'm ..." he was interrupted by his kitten, who spat in his direction. "Forgive me, he is Antediluvian," the dumyr seemed to grin as he looked justified in being announced first, "and I'm Joop." After saying it, he realized that he'd already mentioned his name upon entering the building ...kittenless, as some have pointed out.
spaceThe uptight woman at the table gave Joop one too many looks of disdain, and he no longer felt welcome to the group; hearing the vibrating in her bag made him chuckle, as he'd hoped it wasn't a mobile telephone, but something much more embarrassing to which he, too could raise an eyebrow. Ante didn't understand the slight laughter, so jumped down to discover what might be the matter. Just then, she'd risen, and walked out the door, without a goodbye; "Doubly as rude as asking a complete stranger his or her profession," Joop murmured under his breath in his native Dutch.
spaceThe two talkative members of the brunch seemed nice enough, and Ante didn't mind nosing around their legs and laps and pets. He'd tried getting closer to them, but wasn't entirely successful with each passing ice cube that reared its villainous head in a glass. Ante darted to the bar where drinks were being made at Kyt's request. He stood, panting, waiting patiently and eagerly for the next frozen digit to appear. It was time for hunting.
space"That . . .was Antediluvian." Joop sat with the others, listening to them speak, and watching the intricacies of their body language. The ear scratching seemed none out'f the ordinary, and went unnoticed. If you two need a place to stay, I have a house to myself just up the street. I find that living here, near the library, makes it easier to hide Ante in and out when I cannot find a sitter." He grins a bit, hoping to employ one or both as someone who can take care of the dumyr when he isn't around, but wouldn't make the suggestion outright.
space"And since everyone else has stated," he continued, "I'm in research. A lot'f my time is spent digging through my tomes, trying my hardest to organize them, but never finding the moment to be able to." Kyt would certainly come in handy with that one, but the problem again was that he'd never consider ... "ANTE NO!!" the boy yelled across Cariston. Seeing his little one attack the ice machine sent him over the edge. "I'll be ..." he stood and rushed to the cat before finishing. Again, the tortured, tormented body seemed to wiggle until resting in the lap of a very exhausted Joop.

Kyt giggled behind her hand; she couldn't help it. Joop and Ante seemed perfect for each other: one with an endless amount of energy, and the other has an endless amount of patience and energy to catch the other.
It was, to be frank, hilarious to watch. But she decided to be nice and reply politely to both of his statements.
"I actually work at the library some weekends; if you need for him to be watched just drop him over with me and I'll be happy to amuse him." Kyt glanced at Hecate. "And Hecate won't watch him."
Hecate pawed at her, claws nubbing out. Kyt gave her a glare but the Dumyr ignored her. Hecate was still laying on the table; she turned her head to stare at Ante. Her next victim.
"And if you need help organizing, a lot of my clients ask me to do it as I build their libraries. Again, drop me a call." She fished around in her large bag for another card. Finding one, she laid it on the table where Joop had been sitting.

spaceThe giggle made Joop feel just a little better about his parenting skills. He'd been under the impression that everything he'd done up to this point was seriously unprofessional, and would be the end of his budding relationship. He did sort'f hope for a more relaxed, educated sort, but Antediluvian suited him well. Their offsets were perfectly balanced.
space"I thank you Kyt," he replied in his soft voice. It surpassed the point of faking a feminine approach, and was more on the level of professional solitude. He'd not had a chance to talk to many people with his plethora of tomes and pamphlets, and so he never bothered speaking up when he did. Joop is the sort of public speaker everyone would see standing before a pile of stuffed animals, practicing his speech, expecting human beings to respond in a similar fashion as his plushies. He was also generally shocked when people did respond.
spacePetting Antediluvian, head first, then neck, nape, back, and bottom, Joop sipped from his glass, being absolutely certain he'd shown Ante the evidence he knew the curious kitten would be looking for. "See, my friend," he sighed, relieved he'd gotten the dumyr just before his owner would have to open his student bank account to replace what was a perfectly good ice maker, "No ice cubes." The abstract mistrust of frozen water in small blocks had strangely become a phobia of Joop's. Perhaps it was the attack that frightened him most.
space"I'd be happy to drop him off with you sometimes when I need the break," Joop replied, tipping his tea to the table. A jeer came across his young one's face. He was certain Ante knew what was going on, and that he didn't want to be left with Hecate without first arming himself with a barrage of hardened liquid he'd come to know as . . .prey. "I'm sure he'd have a great time with Hecate," Joop continued, completely unaware of the tension growing between the two. Perhaps it was childish love . . .Perhaps it was supernatural distaste, either way, Joop was completely left out.
spaceHe noticed her card on the table just then. Nearly spilling his glass, he laughed picking up the small rectangle printed with contact information and a name. Kyt certainly would be busy with this one, should she seriously take on the challenge of organizing Joop's place; a library it would seem with his collection of relics and antiquated tomes. "I'll absolutely keep this handy, Kyt." He stressed her name, reading only partly what was written there on the card. She seemed to like it, so he had no need to repeat the rest.
spaceThe two gentlemen seemed to be rather quiet this few minutes past, and it was beginning to rustle Ante who'd, until now, was quite content with the petting and the purring, and excessive tail wagging. His long prehensile digit jutting from his backside, slapped Joop playfully on his arm every other second or so, but it went unnoticed as it wasn't painful. "Are you all doing anything after you leave here?" he asked the group, actually hoping the boys would add to the conversation themselves; they're pretty.

"No problem."
Kyt tugged Hecate by the tail to get the Dumyr into her lap. "Behave," she muttered. Hecate growled but obeyed a little. She sat and tilted her head a bit, moving her eyes to look at everyone.
And making a list of victims. Probably.
Kyt sighed and smiled a weary grin. She sipped at her coffee. Kyt loved coffee.

Farlest tilted his head, eyeing Joop a moment at that question. "Not immediately...Nash and I will probably do a bit more job-hunting later..." But he'd seen that the young man's question was probably a lead-in to something else as well.
"What? Did you have something in mind?" Mirrao, who had found a comfortable nest in Farlest's lap up until this point, suddenly seemed to find Ante's tail incredibly intriuging, bright eyes following the movements intensely...taking so much effort as that his head turned ever so slightly in pursuit of the latest fascination.
His caretaker didn't notice...
