"Jes, I need to get out."

"Out?"

"Of the house, I mean, for a little while. There's not much for me to do besides practice and chores, and I'm bored."

"Oh. Uh... don't you have to stay near your chime?" Jestari remembered Rulala saying something to that effect once...

"I can take it with me! Please, Jestari? It'll just be for a few hours."

"Wellll..." Jestari grinned at the puppy dog face Rulala was giving her, and relented. "Alright. Just make sure that you're back before dark or I'll have to send Bryan out after you."

"Yes!"

It was when Rulala had left and everyone had gone inside that the shadows created by the overhang the furin hung from on the porch began to shift. They were small shifts, merely the smokey movement of one shadow to another. If some of those shifts were the normal black, and some were of a burnt red color... what did that matter?

However, it was hard to explain or ignore the glowing silver slivers that followed the shifts.

It seems that another spirit had come, attracted by the furin chime. How long it took for it to decide to reveal itself to the people who lived at the house, was another matter.

The shadow, who called itself Kurogawa, did not reveal itself for several days, preferring to watch the comings and goings of the house it had been attracted to, first. This was how it was most comfortable, out of the limelight.

Not so for the one it surmised was called Rulala, apparently, but that was merely a fact it filed away, like every other fact it observed:

The one called Urda tended to like sitting by windows, or escaping to idle in the mist whenever it rained, or being near fires.

The one called Cho greatly loved her flowers and the butterflies that sometimes came to visit, but held everything else in the sort of friendly regard one might give a pet or a younger sibling.

The one called Bryan did not like the rain, and did not like to be touched often, and was, apparently, able to be controlled by a child's motorized car controller and the television remote. Much to his annoyance.
The one called Jestari loved everyone, but loved her artwork like her soul, and was quite reckless.

There were others who visited this strange house, but they did not appear to live there, so did not rate high enough to analyze for the strange shadow. All in whole, this home was... interesting. Enough so for the shadow-spirit to decide that his watchful eye was needed. The inhabitants were too careless for his taste.

It was time to reveal himself to the Oookusama.*

The day had been nothing special. Jestari had woken up, eaten breakfast, gone to work for a few hours, come home, had lunch, distracted Rulala from giving Bryan a makeover..

How was it that she always got surprised by chime spirits?

"Oookusama."

"EIK!"

... Oh.

When Jestari calmed herself, hand over her heart, the spirit had already moved in front of her, and was studying her quietly. Strange. Rulala's spritely voice had fit her, whatever form she'd have. But this one.. he looked small and insubstantial, but his voice had been a deep tenor monotone, albiet quiet.

"Hajimemashite."
[1]

A lightbulb flickered briefly for the human woman, drawing from her love of watching anime in subtitles. "Ha.. Hajimemashite." A little mispronounced, but whatever. "Who are you?"

"..." Silver slits glanced over to the front window, where the furin chime sang softly.

"You're a spirit from that chime?" A nod, sort of. "Makes sense... I got it from the same place I got Rulala's chime.." Was it her, or did the eyes of the spirit scrunch a little at the mention of the other spirit's name?

"Kurogawa to yon-de kudasai.
[2] Onegai-shite-mo iidesu-ka?" [3]

"Sure.."

"I would like to become servant for this place." Servant?? Oh.. ah- he must mean that he wants to stick around or something. He was so formal..

"S-sure. Welcome."

"Aa." And with that, the spirit swirled away to some unknown shadow.

That. Had been weird.
