She was far too preoccupied with him to notice any subtle bodily changes. However that worked. What she did notice, however, was an irregular speech pattern. Had that happened before without her noticing? Curious. But nothing to be alarmed at, it seemed. Something that could be addressed at a later time, if necessary. She was back to her oddly breezy and sunny self probably before her suspicion could be noticed. "Everyone is important to someone at some point~ At least, I think so." Her smile became wistful. "It is one of the only consolations in living an extended life. Living long enough find what is important." And the agony of eventually losing it all, but there was no reason to mention that just then. "Cost wouldn't be an issue. I am a self-made success, after all. I grow the beans, I roast the beans, I sell the beans, and I sell the coffee." Someone was quite satisfied with herself. "It is perfect, yes?"

"...Fine." He'd just have to give her other garbage to fill her room with. "It is at home. This is but a secondary home, you see." She was quick to open a portal, disappear into it, and return with the item in question. She balanced it on the tip of her finger. "What are you going to do with this?"

"Maybe, if I lived long enough to gather any roots." He stopped himself before he said 'and not die before I can do anything again'. She did not need to know that. Though she knew he wasn't exactly clean-handed either, no need to bring that up now!

He took the can and fished out a scalpel from his pocket, slicing the top off. Then he took spare Petri dish from his pocket and covered the can with the bottom dish, making sure it was clamped shut and completely airtight before handing it back to her.

"There, that's done. You can bring this along on your trip if you'd like!"

"Too late~ You are important to me." She stuck out her tongue a bit. "Whether that is to your benefit or detriment... I wouldn't know." More of a mirthful observation than anything, as she looked to be quite amused with herself.

"Haa~" She was beginning to get frustrated. "But you haven't explained! What is it? How does it function?" Resorting to clinging to his arm with a pouty expression probably wasn't very fair, but. "I want to know! And really..." She held the arm a little more closely. "I deserve an explanation, to make up for that 'if you'd like' comment." Further pouting commenced!

"... It's a cup. Airtight cup. Thing. I don't know, I'm not very good at naming thi - ...."

Aah, he could feel his face burning. And it was taking pretty much all he could to not just freeze them both solid on the spot. Someone else take the wheel, hurry!

"It works pretty much like what it looks like, that's all! Just an airtight container that probably won't look very out of place in your purse or your hand, if you want to take it out. Just the thing for you to bring on your trip, eh? If things go as planned h- I can come with you and stay here at the same time!"

There it was again. Well... "I don't mean to spoil your efforts, but... who is this? It's just... you are just far too chipper for me to ever mistake you as him. That's all~" Maybe if she asked nicely, whoever it was wouldn't be too upset. "I can't help but feel that this won't be the only time we shall speak, so perhaps we should get acquainted while given an adequate amount of privacy to do so?" And while it wasn't too awkward of a situation just yet. That too. "...I don't want to let go of his arm, though. Is that a problem? Or..." The realization didn't take too long to hit her. "Is that the problem. Is he all right?" She couldn't help but worry.

Still not much of an answer. "Well. Does it function as an extension of him? So it could see, hear, communicate? Can you tell me that much at least?" She was a talkative one, after all.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 25, 2014 11:33 pm

"Ah, where did I go wrong? Is it the lack of sulkiness? Or maybe I'm just out of practice. Haven't talked much lately, hmm... Maybe that's what needs work..."

Ack! Already spotted! This girl, she's very quick to catch on. Oh dear, what to do....? Hmm, how to rectify this situation? Make an act like she hadn't realized? Or just outright spill everything? No wait, maybe not everything, that was pretty much going to take all day and might make someone pretty angry enough to freeze him solid. Alright, alright. Guess it won't make much of a difference. He had to applaud her, she's one smart cookie!

"Ah, doesn't matter who I am at the moment! It's not your fault, miss. Just someone being particularly panicked about getting touched and by someone like yourself, no less. I don't particularly want to intrude either, but it's a lot better than having to call for the fire department, I'd say. Anyway, back on topic!"

With an uncharacteristically enthusiastic nod, he pointed at the can to continue.

"It pretty much depends! If you hold it up just right, he can see out of it, not sure about the hearing part since it technically is a metal can after all, I don't know about the acoustics. Should be good enough, however. The communication part... hmm. I'll leave that up to him to decide how he wants to communicate. Maybe a tap or two on the sides? As far as I know he hasn't been able to write that way. Not easy writing in tiny cursive, apparently, much worse trying to form his own handwriting!"

Well, she had tried. Just as well. It didn't seem malicious, at least. "Oh~ How about, you don't tell me who you are, and I won't tell you how I figured it out?" A little mean, perhaps, but mostly intended as playfulness. She was smiling, anyway. "I can't say I'm interested in helping you do a better job at trying to trick me. Or dealing with yet another outside influence that is, in this case... not outside..." Confusing, but she knew what she meant at least. "But it seems like another situation where I have no choice. So I suppose I will have to be satisfied with whatever information you happen to give me." She was still being cordial despite the circumstances. "I assume you know who I am?" But, how much did that entail. Really best not to think about it.

A different heroine might've relinquished her grip with great embarrassment at that point... but not this one! Though she did look to be quite troubled. "...I can't help it. I just..." She pretended not to notice the fact that her face felt very hot. "I like him so much. And I don't want to be overshadowed by anyone else." Eventually she did let go, but more just to support the growing heaviness that was her head and in hopes of making the room stop spinning so much rather than anything else.

"...This is so confusing." She'd say it was better than nothing, but that would imply she had any idea what it was in the first place. Still. "But he made an effort for me when he didn't have to do anything, so..." Couldn't really complain, after she'd considered it that way.

"Good enough! It's not often that I have to drag my bum out here to help, anyway, so you won't see me around much. Probably. I hope. It's one thing to sort out your troubles, it's another to let it boil until someone else has to help you with it. He didn't mention anything, did he? Just like him, always keeping everything to himself...."

He shrugged. Seems like he had enough experience to show for it already.

"I only know as much as he has seen, so... Side effects of being a hitchhiker, I suppose!"

Still keeping up with that chirpy tone, even if his face shifts into something a bit darker - perhaps the inner workings of this person's mind was not as sound as expected, but then again, who's to say that the collective is, anyway?

"But if you're planning on hanging around him, just be careful, alright? Nothing gets out of his head, don't worry about having to guard your words."

The dissonant cheery voice hesitated and returned back to a brighter expression, as if a simple cloud had just passed over his mind and left. Ah, a cloud of hail, perhaps?

"And intermission's over, I won't bother you anymore. Nice meeting you, as always!"

He took the can again and stood up, looking around for a bathroom, maybe. As confused as ever, and - oh!

".... When's your trip, Ama?"

She shook her head. "I'd gladly hear him out, but it's perfectly fine if he doesn't want to talk." More than enough things she could say, after all. But that aside, she seemed perfectly content with that statement.

"Oh, I'm not so easily killed!" Naturally she'd assume the worst, and cheerfully so. "I'll gladly do whatever I have to, to protect us both." How much whoever she was speaking to would care about that, she didn't know, but it seemed like something decent to end the conversation on.

"My trip? Well, that is~" A quick calendar check left her startled. "Is it... is it really tomorrow?" Back into the sofa fell her face. "I should have asked sooner..." She sighed into the sofa. "It would be incredibly simple just to use portals, but..." She seemed to be rubbing her knuckles reflexively. "I would rather not break my promise to someone, if at all possible. So I suffer through the travel." She sat up once she was through feeling sorry for herself. "Travel the day before, there for the day, and back the day after that." And only after feeling sorry for herself and explaining did she notice that he was awkwardly standing around again. "D-did you need something?"

(( Are we following this up with the adventures of a girl and her can? XD ))

Tomorrow. No time to go home and ask! But it's also a reason to carry out an emergency procedure, so...

"... Nothing. Just um, hold on a second. And don't look."

Whipping out a scalpel, he positioned the blade close to his face. Perhaps a bit too close. Anyone would have squirmed at the thought of something sharp getting so close to an eye but well... Careful not to spill any on her floor! It would be hell to clean that up. But once he was done (without the usual internal screaming too, strangely enough) he did his best to dust as much of his hair over the empty socket and capped the can tightly.

"There."

He dropped it back into her hand. Now it was full, or at least, the transparent lid had something black behind it. Something else was bobbing around inside as well.

((Maybe? XD))

With a quiet nod she did as he said and waited. "Ah!" Just a small sound that managed to escape as she grasped the returned can with both hands. She bit back her lip as she looked at it. Her first instinct was to question what he had done, more out of concern than curiosity, but she didn't dare. She trusted him, and that extended to his decisions. And this definitely wasn't one to question.

"I am assuming that you will need this returned?" Ever the opportunist, that meant she'd be able to see him when she got back as well. "I'll... I'll protect it with my life!" Not that gravesite visitations were any bit perilous but any chance to appear any bit valiant in front of him was swiftly taken and summarily overblown by her enthusiasm, of course.

(( Her trip, I meant. XD Presumably we'd do that, especially if she has an eyeball heh. After that, I dunno! Not that there has to be anything immediately after that. I've just enjoyed writing with you thus far. whee ))

"Only after the trip."

This was the first time he had entrusted someone with that. Well, someone who wasn't the mechanical moron, that is. And also the first situation that wasn't a raid on the house or an ill-conceived escape plan. So the question is, could he trust her enough to return it safely? Well, he'd see. He'd be able to see. Right?

But he had also never only put one eye in. It was usually all or nothing - but he was going to need to see, and the Professor, as Ama had said, wasn't doing a good job at keeping cover at all, so....

((Yeah, sure why not? XD It can't be that boring riding along, can it? And I've enjoyed it too~ ouob))

There was vigorous nodding to affirm that she did indeed understand and agree. "Yes. Afterwards. Right!" Someone should've focused more on clarity rather than looking cool. "Did you want to meet here, or... ?" Certainly didn't seem like something that should be returned in a public place.

"Did you need to be on your way? Or, maybe..." She was reluctant to let him go despite any awkwardness, being that it was (mostly) just the two of them without anything too peculiar going on for once. No broken elevators or anything! But, she was also resigned to the fact that it probably wasn't ideal at that point. "Though perhaps... I should just be getting my things together, at this point..." There was some disappointment in that statement, no matter how much truth there was within it.

(( I'll do my best to not drone on and on. XD And yay, I'm glad! Our styles work well together I think. :3 ))

"Anywhere that's convenient for you when you get back, I suppose."

Because he could always rush into the nearest washroom or something to put it back. Weirder things happened than dropping an eye around here, so he should be fine... right?

"If your trip's tomorrow, I don't think I should be bothering you any more. Surely you'd need to make sure everything's packed? It's no good going there and realizing you've forgotten to bring anything important, after all."

He would offer to help her pack - but something at the back of his mind was nagging at him not to touch a lady's things. How ungentlemanly of him, even if it was things like trip snacks or socks. Surefire way to get scolded, one way or another.

"Haa~" Well. She wasn't going to inject some reality into the situation, so someone had to, much to her disappointment. "Fine. Then you should come back here!" She was cheerful in asserting herself though instantly defeated in her next admission. "It doesn't have to be up here. Downstairs is fine. No one will care." She would, greedy creature that she was, but in the end it was better to compromise. "You're always welcome here. So come by as often as you like. It's a nice place, right? And safe, if I can help it." She couldn't imagine that he'd have any enemies that would go so far as to follow him to such a place, but better not to assume.

"Y-you never bother me!" Which wasn't the point at all, but the kneejerk reaction was what it was. How uncool. She coughed, as if that would cover up what she had said. "Nothing else I could take with me would be terribly important. But yes, I should probably be free of distractions while I'm getting things together." And he was very, very distracting. "Shall I see you out?"
