"Is that what you are?" He smiled again, "And even if I had, I would still only care to see you. There are others like you? Others who are psychic?"

He tried hard not to let his excitement into his voice. If that is true...you could bring great news of joy to my people.

"Of course there are," she said, letting her mouth fall open a bit more. Her ear flicked in amusement. "I was told the humans even in..." she stopped herself, an ear flicking with annoyance at herself. "That the humans still denied their psy abilities," she finished, not smoothly enough to hide her verbal stumble. "Please, this might sound rather odd, but how near are we to Valsgarth? To the Aldatan Estate?" she asked, her mouth closing after. her hand closing around the bark of the tree behind her, the other hand clutching the crystal. Something was wrong here, very wrong.

"I have never heard of such places. And I am not human. While some embrace their gifts, others are punished for theirs." He paused, his golden eyes going over her body once again. "You are not well are you? Something is not right with you..." He could feel the offness, but couldn't make out what was causing it.

Her ear flicked back in concern. "Not human?" she asked, the other ear flicked back to match the first, both starting to flatten back in distress, almost vanishing into her hair. "What are you, if not a Talented human?" she asked, she sniffed the air again. "Where... Where am I?" she asked, her voice giving a small mewl of distress. her ears fully flattened, vanishing completely under her hair, her tail twitching against the tree trunk.

"I told you. I am Carpathian. I am of the earth. But that is of little importance right now. You must tell me what is bothering you. There is nothing around for miles that would threaten me. The Undead are far from here." He stepped closer still, sending her waves of warmth and reassurance, of safety and protection.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 20, 2014 12:05 am

"The undead?" she asked, titling her head, one ear flicking. "I'm sorry, too much is confusing right now," she said, frowning a bit. "Please, by Vartra, tell me, where am I?" she asked, ears moving almost spasmodically now. "you said of the Earth. As in planet Earth or as in the human word for ground?" she asked. Where was she? WHEN was she? She had a sudden urge to strangle the laughter off of a certain male....

Hadrian could only file away part of that information. Best to break it down when she wasn't in a panic.

"You are on earth. And I am of the earth, as in the planet, and as in the ground. My people are children of the earth. She gives us many gifts. We may command the earth, the weather, the animals. We may become anything which we can hold in our minds. Very little is out of our reach, yet we have high prices to pay for our gifts. I cannot be out in the sun. It burns my skin and hurts my eyes. And I am as dead in the noonday time. My time is the night. I also require blood to survive. Though I do not kill, which is the marker between myself and those of my people who have lost their souls and become the undead."

The males of my kind lose their emotions and ability to see in color after they mature. The only feeling left to them is the high from the kill. Should they kill while they feed, they become the undead. It is a challenge to endure until we find our lifemate. She is the only thing that can restore our emotions and the colors of the night to us. It is an honor to hold out to meet one's lifemate. And I am honored and pleased to meet you, my lifemate."

She had been calming some as she listened, filing all the information. She had to absorb it with a clear head in order to be of any use to AlRel. She was not in AlRel herself, but most of her family was, and she had been trained enough to get the information they needed to them.

So the facts. She somehow was on Earth. Not the present, not the future or at least, not the near future, if the Sholans were unknown. Also she was in woods. This was not the smell of the world that had been described to her as Earth. This had to be their past. Perhaps a time when talents were hidden but more common. Could he be from their variant of the telepath guild? Is that what he meant by Carpathian?

Children of earth. That sounded a lot like what that Dewartt fellow had been saying. Was this where he had gotten the idea? That was... scary. He can become anything...? Well, that was what she had seen, she supposed. A talent she wished to learn herself. Seemed... useful. Was this why Vartra had sent her here?

But what he said about not being in the sun, and being "as dead" whatever that meant, struck her as odd. A cold feeling like an icy finger traced her spine. Kuuoshi. Cryo on a daily basis? Winter's Kiss? Every single day. Perhaps that was why she had been drawn here then. A human who had never met Sholans that shared a God? Fascinating. That could explain the problem with the height of day, the cold against the sun. Blood to survive? That was... odd. She would need to ask more about them later.

Loosing the abilities to feel and see color... was that like being mind dead? It was terrifying.

Then the next part confused her until he started talking about lifemates. Somehow this lifemate could...wait. WHAT?! She was his...he called her... WHAT? Her shock was palpable, strong enough to escape her mental shields. Again she heard that laughter and her ears laid back again. Could one kill a god? She was tempted to find out.

Hadrian knew it was a lot to take it. It was for the psychic humans. It had to be for a sholan too. "I assure you that this is as much of a surprise to me as it is to you...I certainly did not expect to meet you today. I do not think I ever truly expected to meet you."

He was trying to be patient. But her continued laughter and now sudden shock and finding out just who she was to him was beginning to wound his pride.

"I can see that you never expected to meet me..." Hadrian's voice was dry. He was trying to hide the beginnings of hurt.

Her ears flicked back in distress as she felt the beginning of hurt feelings. She winced. "I'm sorry," she said quickly, tail twitching in discomfort behind her. "Vartra knows this is a surprise to me. I... I thought I was.... well... never mind that, never mind why I'm here..."

She took several deep breaths and moved through the litanies to still and calm her mind and body. She felt the tension drain from her, leaving her ready to move, to react, but in a neutral base position, physically and mentally. Once she was centered, she thought over what he had said, her ears returning to their usual upright position. Her breathing calmed.

"Let me understand," she said softly. "This is connection between us?" she asked. "One that you had no say in, that you cannot break?" she studied his face as she spoke. It seemed enough like a human's that she should be able to read it. Her tail flicked forward lazily, touching his leg subtly. The pull she half expected wasn't there. But given Vartra's laughter earlier, it would come, she was sure. And then he would have as much to adjust to as she did. "A connection between us until we both die?" she asked softly.

She realized she was being a foolish kit to be upset at this. She expected this to be a possibility with whoever she paired with first. Was this not why she left home in the first place? She would be a hypocritical kitling to be angry at him, knowing that she might have done the same to him. That she still might. And it would be no more her fault than his. No, it would be more her fault, because she came knowing this would happen to someone. And because it was her God pulling the strings behind this whole little jaunt. Of course, Kyuuoshi might be involved with his people as well. It was exciting in its own way. This was her God sent adventure, and she would make the best of it.

"I did not pick you. You were picked for me. And I cannot break it. I would kill any who tried to break it. It is why I have lived these centuries. I have waited for this, for you. The bond of lifemates does not break when one dies. I will wait for you to come to me on the other side should I die first. If you leave this existence before me, I will follow you to the next life readily." His hand reached down to stroke the tip of her tail. He found the fur there to be as soft as silk on his rough hands.

She nodded a bit, flicking her tail across his palm. "We have much to discuss, I suspect that there will a deeper bond coming than either of us could have expected." She flicked her tail away from him, her lower jaw opening slightly again, a small almost purring sound escaping from her. "But perhaps we should find somewhere more comfortable than the middle of the woods to talk?" she asked, drawing circles on the stone with a finger as she watched his face. There was something so... male... about human males. She knew it was the Sholan in her being attracted to him so, but that was fine. That was what should be, if they were going to be double linked. "And we should prepare for when we both take ill," she said thoughtfully, the purring tapering off. She was not looking forward to that, but he should be warned so they could take precautions. It wasn't a matter of if. If they leska bonded, it would be a matter of when. Vartra alone knew.

"I have a manor not far from here. We will be safe there and undisturbed." He moved closer, offering her his hand. "Carpathians do not take ill. We are immune to disease and sickness. Anything that could hurt us we can easily command our bodies to break down."

"I need my bag first," she said simply. She set the stone into his open palm instead of her hand. It was warm and would pulse lightly against his skin in time with her heartbeat. She turned lithely to face the Tree and before a word more could be said, her claws dug into the bark and she climbed quickly. She grabbed her bulky bag and hitched it on one arm, then jumped down beside him, mouth opening ever so slightly at him before she spoke again. "I'm not sure you can stop this illness, it was one my people though long since eradicated. The inoculated against it anyway, yet all the mixed pairs, and many others, took ill. You don't want to fight it, though. It will alter us," she said simply, an ear flicking. "It's worth it. Getting that sick for a week... because after," she stepped close to him and licked his ear with a kitten rough tongue, though she hand to go up on her toes to do it, "we can share cubs."

Hadrian growled low due to her tongue. "I suppose it is a fair trade for your conversion then." He grabbed her paw and started to lead her in the direction of his home. "It is supposed to be rather painful. I will shield you what I can, though I am afraid that I will not be able to keep you from feeling any pain." He was already imagining what it would be like to kiss her.
