Event: Pyren's arrival Shane found himself walking down the streets of Durem around mid-noon. The walk wasn't hard on him, but he'd grown so acustomed to riding his motorcycle along city streets recently that as he walked, the scenary seemed to move slower than time was allowing it to. The bustling community was a little too urban for Shane's current tastes as he'd only just recently got back into the city life.
The reason he was walking along the streets was because his motorcycle was indeed, broken. This was quite the problem for Shane, as he was almost constantly using it to get around, so he wanted to fix it as quickly and perminantly as he could. He figured a magical fix would be the best solution. Faster than he thought he would, Shane found a shop selling magical potions. He hoped that they'd have something for him, as he really didn't want to spend any more time in Durem than he could. Quickly, he ran inside Maggie's shop, taking absolutely no notice to the fact that it also doubled as an adoption center.

The shop seemed empty when Shane came in. It was old and had a strange smell to it, of herbs and odd potions. The shelves were covered with all sorts of amulets ingredients and stuff
Suddendly 2 bright eyes shone behind his back. They belonged to a black cat statue close to the door, in a spot most wouldn't notice when they came in

Shane sniffed the air and let out an audiable cough at the overwhelming strength of odours that the shop carried. However, within a minute his nostrils had gotten used to the air, until Shane could only smell a sweet odour that bordered on the smell of apricot and papiya. Shane took this moment to browse around the shelf towards the left of the shop, hopeing to find what he needed quickly so he could leave.

Shane almost knocked over a jar of...something...on the shelf as he was startled by the apearance of the shop's proprietor. The words that came out of her mouth weren't the ones he was expecting either. He wasn't entire sure he'd heard her correctly too, so he turned to face the newly appeared woman with a quizical look.
"Pardon me...did you just say guardian?" Shane asked, not really sure why he somehow thought that she did.

"I did. The cat's eyes shone, which means you're a potencial guardian for one of the Mishaps"

Shane was taken aback by this, not expecting such a request at all. Shane's eyes began to wander in frustration, until he finally caught wind of the sign outside through the window and he began to understand.
"Okay, okay..." he said putting his hand to his forehead and looking down. "I have no problem adopting a kid, sure...but what the heck is a Mishap, and what cat?" Shane asked, peering around for some sign of life inside the shop besides himself and the proprieter.

"That cat. He's the first Sentinel" she pointed to the cat statue near the dorr. The eyes were still gleaming in their yellowish light
"And Magical Mishaps are creatures born from spells gone wrong. They're very much like humans but have unique features and abilities, mostly caused by the spell that created them"

Shane gazed over in the direction Maggie pointed and noticed that there was indeed a cat statue stareing right at him. It's eyes became locked with Shane's and tranfixed it's eerie gleam into his heart. Shane quickly ripped his gaze from the Sentinel just in time to concentrate on Maggie's explination of the Mishaps.
Shane didn't know much about magic, but he understood the mishaps predicament and felt a little sorry for them. He decided that adopting one probably wouldn't be so bad. It'd definatly add a purpose the sidecar that he'd just installed on his bike [which had caused the problem in the first place].
"Okay," he said with a smile "you've got yourself a guardian."

"Great. Come with me to the waiting room to discuss the details. Jabir will bring the baby soon"
She motioned him to enter a small room to the right, the door partially hidden by the shelves
Inside there was a table, a couch and some chairs around it. On the walls there was pictures of the HQ building

Shane followed Maggie into the waiting room and settled onto the couch, wondering who...or possibly what a Jabir was. While he waited, Shane looked about at the pictures of the HQ. It seemed like a very nice place that he wouldn't mind using it as a second home at all, if things came down to it.

Maggie noticed Shane's gaze at the pictures "That is the Magical Mishaps Adoption House, or HQ as we call it. Most of the Mishaps and guardians live there"
She took a small key from a pocket, with a headphone set carved on it "This is the key to your room by the way, in case you want to settle in with us. If not Jabir can always set up a portal between it and your house"

Shane took the key from Maggie and inspected it. It was smooth and finely carved. Shane wondered about the engraved set of headphones on the key, but decided not to ponder on it too much. He'd learnt from his travels that the answers to some of the most complex questions usually came, quite simply, on their own.
At the mention of a portal, Shane nodded in agreement.
"I think a portal would be the best choice." Shane decided to make this time to be used for introductions. "My name is Shane Foster, I don't belive I've caught your name yet either miss...and who is this Jabir that you've mentioned?"

"I'm Maggie, Maggie Anurei. And Jabir is a Mishap, the oldest one in the HQ and caretaker of building and the grounds"
"And before you meet him, try not to be startled by his appearence or stare at him too much"
Jabir knocked on the door and entered, carrying a little bundle in his long, thin arms If standing with his neck completely stretched, he would be a good 15 feet tall, but he often kept it arched in a sinous movement, a way to make the conversation easier
"Shane this is Jabir. Jabir this is the new guardian, Shane"
"Pleasure" he bowed his neck and smiled at the man, stretching his free hand for a handshake

Shane had travled most of the world over during his time away from home and seen many things, both natural and a few of magical orientation, but he'd never seen anything like Jabir in his life. It wasn't his height that caught Shane's attention, nor was it any bit of his apperance whatsoever. It was Jabir's heart that Shane could see, that made him beam and greatfully shake his hand. If Jabir was considered a "Mishap" by any means, Shane could tell it definatly had nothing to do with his personality.
"Oh no Jabir, the pleasure is all mine." he said, still beaming.
All of Shane's fears were now gone as he looked to the little bundle in Jabir's arm, that Shane assumed would now be his Mishap. Jabir was a mishap himself, but despite his apperances, it was clear that he'd been well raised and that gave Shane hope that he would be able to handle rasing one of his own.
