Well, he didn't hate the city - he knew the city was once a bustling metropolis, but it had since become a literal ghost town, and Bu was naturally distrusting of anything so saturated with magic. However the ghosts here, the Re-Anima, were the ones most likely to have knowledge of the Shadow Mage Ohhmaru that had attacked them in the forest. And since they were generally neutral to the conflicts of the world at large was likely to be willing to help him - for one price or another.
So it was that the Stranger made his way into the town of Caran. The Kor was wrapped up as he usually was, with most of his features hidden beneath layers of thin cloth, and all but one glowing eye concealed on his face. He pulled the hood up around his face and made his way into the city, sticking to the alleys and side streets. He wasn't concerned about what might be hiding in the alleys, and he wanted to try to keep his presence minimal for now. He hadn't been in Caran in over a decade, and couldn't be sure what might have changed in the meantime. As he passed through the town, he caught a glimpse of some kind of struggle, a white-winged man with another in tow, possibly his captive. One's name was Raz. The Kor stayed in the shadow of a building, nestled quietly in the alley as he waited and watched what was happening.

Raz looked around the street he had settled down on. He felt somewhat uneasy, but there was no one within sight. With a drowsy sigh, Raz returned his scythe to the strap between his wings. He was certain that they would be safe here, at least for a little while. Raz did want to meet back up with Ace and discuss what they were going to do about the eidolons in the city, but the Valkyrie knew it would be better to let the nikatal thief find him.
Raz couldn’t help but let a soft giggle escape his lips upon seeing the wieva’s reaction to being whisked away from the dangerous alley. “No need to act so tough.” The Valkyri said as he reached forward and gently stroked the wieva’s soft cheek. The fire was an unfortunate event, but all Raz wanted to do now was protect this boy, and he didn’t even care that the dram boy had ties to the guild of artifacts, all the Valkyrie saw was a beautiful boy he wanted to protect and keep safe.
Raz was clearly offended, and even looked a little sad, when he was labeled a captor. “I’m just trying to keep you safe.” He held the boy’s hand and kissed the back, just like a true knight of nobility should. “And might I have your name, beautiful?” The Valkyrie wanted to know the name of whom he was protecting before getting into too much detail about why he was here.

Jas nearly gagged at the romantic language of the winged man, though it was a very difficult instinct to fight. "It's not an act if I am, though." The Wieva stated bluntly, his staff still grasped in his closed fist. Luckily, Sasha leaped up onto the room, nuzzling against Jas' leg in relief, which also settled his nerves a little. That didn't stop him from slapping the man's hand when he tried to kiss the back of his, though. 'Who even does that anymore...' He thought with a grimace.
"Since it looks like I have no choice but to be at least civil to you, I suppose it's important that you have a name. Though if you call me beautiful one more time I might have to show you how tough I can be... For all intents and purpose, though, you may call me Jasper." he relented, though he shot the Valkyrie a glare that was supposed to be threatening. "Now explain to me why everyone seems to be searching for me. One usually likes to know why one is being pursued and if he should run away or not." he shot,

"Actually," Ace said peering down from the roof he had used as shortcut after escaping with his makeshift cloak and the information he had extracted none too gently. "How about we discuss that on our way to the governor of Caran's estate? As much as I hate being the third wheel, I think we should notify the ones in charge of the city that someone in their beloved city was out for blood."
He had been running all over the city and it was only with luck that he had spotted the pair land in a nearby street. They had chosen a safer and wealthier neighborhood. Fortunately, the usual patrols had been drawn away by the fire leaving the street empty of threats though not exactly empty of eavesdroppers.
"It's just around the corner where those big gates are," the nikatal said, pointing towards a set of ornate gates enhanced with runes of all sorts before reaching down to scratch absentmindedly at his burn mark through the makeshift bandage he had made. Unbeknown to him, the eidolon's spell had not been meant to harm, but to plant a spark of the creature's essence for remote tracking. It had been a tricky and very subtle spell, one that was not easy to detect even for the experienced magic user let alone an untrained street runt. How those killers got their hands on such knowledge was a mystery.
"I've lost sight of those bookworms though," he shrugged apologetically before pointing at himself. "A nikatal stands out way too much and I had a few guards after my tail. But... I remember them mentioning something about looking for one of the candidate for the next leader of Artifact and they seemed pretty happy to see you so I guess that makes said candidate."
Ace paused at that, thoughtful for once as he tapped his scratched his bandaged arm once more. "Congratulations! That sure added loads to the list of people that want you dead," he finally said before starting to count on his clawed fingers. "Evolution, people that you have borrowed a few items from, wieva haters, rival Artifact member wanting the leadership position..."

When Jasper smacked Raz’s hand away he was struck with a look of utter dejection and tears began to swell in the corners of Valkyrie’s eyes. He turned away from the wieva boy and sat on the floor, pulling his knees to his chest and encasing himself in the feathery protection of his wings. “You’re mean!” Raz shouted from inside his feathery cocoon. “I was just trying to be nice and help.” Through the barrier his wings created, it was hard to tell whether Raz was actually crying, or if he just sounded extremely sad, either way it was obvious that he had been hurt.
“I don’t want to talk to you if you’re going to be mean to me.” The Valkyrie said, still not leaving the safety of his wings wrapped around him. Raz decided he would just wait for Ace to find them and explain everything, and as if on cue with Raz’s thoughts the nikatal thief peered down from a nearby rooftop. Hearing the familiar sound of Ace’s voice, Raz emerged from his feathery shelter. If anyone looked close enough, they would be able to tell that Raz had been crying, though not very much.
“Are you hurt?” the Valkyrie asked Ace, noticing the the thief had bandaged his arm and had been scratching at it. Raz had a healing potion, and he knew some healing magic as well and didn’t want to leave any companion injured. He gave a sideways glance at Jaster, wondering how hurt the wieva would have been if he wasn’t there to help.

"Oh, for goodness sake..." Jasper sighed in exasperation as the Valkyrie huddled into his own wings. Some part of him wondered how the same man could have brutally ended the Eidolon's life and then turn into a sniffling child within ten minutes, but he silenced that thought with a strange feeling he didn't recognize: Guilt? He didn't know.
"Okay, I'm sorry. I'll stop being as snide as I normally am If you stop crying..." he huffed before a voice from behind startled him. He turned and exhaled heavily with relief that it was only the Nikatal from earlier and not some hoard of malevolent Eidolon or some other foul creature out to kill him. "Okay, at least that's more of a plan than featherhead could come up with aside from wooing me with his courtly charms..." the Wieva shrugged, following after after the cat-man and rolling his eyes, surrendering his fate to whatever cruel gods deemed him worthy of their spite today.
Which apparently was a lot of gods, as the Nikatal explained his situation along with a detailed list of beings that would rather see him dead. "So basically what you're saying is I should just head for the hills now and abandon all hope, I'm assuming. I mean, I can hold my own, but there's a limit. I can't fight the world." He said with a gulp, Sasha nudging his leg comfortingly after sensing his wieva's panic. He would figure this all out in time, after collecting more accurate information when he found the three Wieva from before.

Ace stared at the Nobility leader then at the upcoming Artifact leader and back at Raziel. Something had happened between the two, but what? For Avatar's sake, he had only been gone for a little while! Nuh-uh! Those two were supposed to become best buddies for the future of the Multiverse.
"Not exactly," he finally said with deliberate care before landing next to them, still eying them both suspiciously. He wanted to ask, but that wouldn't exactly be tactful there. Maybe that otter could help later... "I mean, they have the advantage of numbers right now since...well..both of your guilds are sort of history by now, no offense. Oh yea, by the way, wingy here is from Nobility in case you were wondering. Rich people like other rich people so I'm sure he'll be of much help."
The rogue had slung an arm around Raziel's shoulder and giving his sides a few pokes for emphasis while purposefully avoiding to mention his rank so as to not overstep his boundaries. If the valkyrie wanted to reveal his identity, it will be his decision, not Ace's even if it may be very handy. Or risky. Glass is half full!
"And like you said, we can't hold out on our own forever. We need our own manpower and we just so happen to have a lively, no pun intended, city full of spirits, wieva and re-anima around us. I'd say, it's not too bad for a start. We just need to convince the one in charge of this city to land us a hand and spare a few guards or volunteers to help us. Heck, I've heard the citizens don't exactly like the eidolons around the area. Two birds with one stone."
"Of course, I'll be steering clear of the negotiations. Never've been a politics person, you see," he added quickly, tugging at the piece of cloth doubling as his cloak that he totally got through legal means. "And you may want to not mention past...uhm...trophies if you know what I mean."

Raz stretched out his wings fully and wiped a tear from his eye. Ace’s poking brought a smile to Raz’s face. He was glad to have made one new friend at least. Raz as usually great at making friends with everyone he meant, at least everyone that didn’t try and kill him; sometimes he even made friends with those that did. He nodded as Ace explained the plan to negotiate with the governor of Caran. Raz had meant to make his way to his manor and speak with him anyway. “I can negotiate!” he said proudly. The Valkyrie didn’t exactly come from money, but he did wear the badge of nobility, and that would get him just as far as throwing around coin if not farther.
Raz’s thoughts went to the time he spent in the guildhall alone. He was certain he came across something that would help in this situation. He didn’t have to think about it very long when he suddenly remembered some documents in the guild archives. “Some of the major cities signed a contract of sorts.” He informed his two companions, he would love to call them his friends, but only one seemed even the slightest bit interested in being his friend. “They agreed to aid the efforts of the knights of nobility if called upon. I’m not sure if those contracts are still in effect, but I could definitely use them as negotiating material.” Raz’s cheeks flushed slightly pink with pride. He felt like he was being super helpful.
Having cheered himself up, the Valkyrie decided it would be a good idea to try and talk to Jasper again. “You may not like me very much, but you need to understand that you need us. Both of us.” Raz said and gestured to Ace. “Had we not shown up, those eidolons would have slaughtered you.” Not even Raz could have taken on both of them by himself, and he was and exceptional fighter. Raz was worried that the wieva’s hubris was going to get him into trouble.

Jas rolled his eyes under the veil of his hair as he learned the winged male was from the guild of Nobility. 'Typical...' he thought, suddenly understanding the Valkyrie's court-y behaviors. "So you're saying that the Guild of Artifacts was found? And killed? Which would explain why the remaining few would look for me, since I would be the best remaining option for leading. Even though I'm not much of a leader, more of a sneaking in the background-er..." He sighed, running a gloved palm through his shaggy blond hair. Sasha chattered encouragingly at the Wieva's ankle, sending little love-shocks firing up the male's leg as if to say 'We can totally do it!'.
"Okay..." Jasper sighed, clenching and un-clenching his fists to relax, "So I'm supposed to approach the leader of a city that I have stolen from on numerous occasions and ask his support in rebuilding the Guild that sanctioned said thievery... Somehow that doesn't seem like a smart plan to me..." he finished, shaking his head absently as he went over any number of plans that he could do (aside from running like hell) that would get him out of this city alive.
It was then that one of the familiars of the other Wieva that survived the attack on the guild struggled towards them, a robin that looked alarmingly beaten and battered as it landed in a heap and limped towards him. Jas ducked down to pick up the creature gently, panic filling his eyes as he thought about what this meant. He smoothed the bird's feathers down gently, thankful that the creature, and thus its Wieva, were still living as he decided the only course that he could see now. "They have the other three that you lost, Ace. Or that lost you, either way. I know at least one is alive because otherwise their familiar would be dead, too. But you're right. I'll do what I can to talk to the Governor." the Wieva stated, his eyes hardening as he placed the injured bird in his hood carefully, making sure it was secure enough to hold the creature before he strode away towards the largest building in the city.

Divide and conquer, had that been the plans of their opponent from the start? Ace couldn't help but wonder if he would have been of any help had he not been split off from the group. Nah, they were a tightknit group that had survived pursuers for weeks so it wasn't as though he could have made a difference against someone that took down an organized group, he finally thought even as he eyed the injured robin.
On the bright side, Raziel had cheered up and looked more determined then ever. Good. Like Jas said,he problem would be the two thieves. "Alright, does anyone have another piece of cloak? Mr. Sparks here need a make over, at least until we reach the governor. Can't have us kicked out because the guards recognized you," he finally said, while tugging off his cloak. "Use mine, it was a nikatal that had stolen a piece of green cloth, not a wieva so this will at least deflect the blunt of the suspicions. We're going to pose as Raziel's bodyguards or something. If it comes down to it, say that you've caught a thief roaming around or something."
Ace had tucked his tail and ears in, but his arms were still bare and, for once, he was regretting the fact that he did not have any long-sleeved clothing. "If we're lucky, I've scared that apprentice witless enough to buy us some time before I'm added to their list of wanted criminals," he muttered to himself, pulling his hood further down to cover his face.

“Maybe I could talk to the governor for you?” Raz suggested to Jas. It was already discussed that Raz was experienced in the eloquent manner of speech officials often used, and he had bargaining chips already. Nobody ever said Jasper had to be the one to talk, and the way he assumed that he would be the best for the job annoyed Raz slightly.
He didn’t have time to dwell on the conceited behavior of the wieva though. A broken robin clamored out of the sky and hobbled towards Jasper, Raz could only assume it was the familiar of one of the other wieva. The Valkyrie was cautious about his next action, but he wanted to help in whatever way he could. He approached Jasper and slowly reached out to gently stroke the injured robin. With his touch, Raz sparked the Robin’s will to live and accelerated it’s natural healing. He wasn’t sure how it would affect the familiar’s wieva master, but it couldn’t be bad. “They’ll be okay.” Raz encouraged, hoping his kind words didn’t upset Jasper.
Raz followed behind the two thieves a few paces, taking the lead only when they neared the manor in the center of the city. Any attention the group received was directed towards Raz himself. His presence seemed to distract from the inconspicuous forms of his thieving companions. Two guards were stationed outside the governor’s manor, one on either side of the door, and a few more patrolled the perimeter. The security wasn’t the tightest he’d ever seen, and if it came down to it Ace and Jasper could probably sneak in. As the group approached the gate Raz adjusted the crest of nobility he had pinned to his loincloth to draw attention to it, he wanted the guards to know who he was. “I seek an audience with the governor. It’s very urgent.” He said to the two guards, not sure which one to speak too.

Jasper wanted to protest to the Valkyrie's offer, since it was his guild that was on the line here, but he couldn't help but turn away when the man showed so much concern for the captured Wieva's familiar. "Let's not give them a chance to be anything but okay..." he muttered, pulling the green fabric over his hair and pinning it shut with a pin of lightning.
He followed after the Nikatal in front of Raz passively, Sasha trailing close behind his steps as they approached the gate, falling back a bit for the Valkyrie to take control of the situation. He rested his hand easily on the dagger that sat at his belt as he waited for the guard to appraise the Noble.
"And who do you think you are to request anything around here, pretty boy?" One of the Re-anima guards sneered at the Valkyrie, leaning lazily against the wall of the building. His partner seemed to be more understanding though, as understanding as a reborn android can be at least.
"Pay him no mind. He was reprimanded for losing track of a notorious thief earlier and has yet to recover from the foul mood it has left him in." the second guard stated, which got a groan of disapproval from the first. He smiled patiently before he phoned the memo that a party was interested in meeting the Governor at his earliest convenience in. "He will be with you shortly." the helpful guard chirped, gesturing the group in much to his partner's chagrin.
Jasper, who had tensed slightly at the mention of the 'notorious thief' had hurried past the two, leading the way into the narrow doorway to the common room of the keep. "We need to stop making so many enemies, Sash..." the Wieva sighed as he hurried along.

Ace followed Raz in, trying hard to hide a snigger shot Jasper an amused look. So the wieva was that notorious around here already, eh? May be good when it comes to dealing with people operating outside the laws. At least, Jasper should know much more about the city then Raziel and he since they just arrived here. They had reached a comfortably furnished room and Ace immediately scanned it for valuables before he caught himself. Bad habits die hard.
"Say, do you have any connection or informants that know of the local criminal organizations?" he whispered in Jasper's direction, not making eye contact or showing any signs that he had been speaking with him in case they were being observed. "Or even anything about the unusual eidolon activities? Like I said, I heard some locals complaining about them and the tavern owner didn't seem too happy about them either. I wonder if the local gangs have tried anything against them before they form their own groups and-
Before he could finish his sentence, a door to an adjoining room opened, revealing a wrinkled...thing. It was quiet hard to identify the race of what Ace assumed to be the governor as he was dressed in long robes and a rather big head wear that looked much like a turban. It approached, movements smooth and soundless, followed by his attendants and guards and came to a stop in front of Raziel. Ace thought he heard the clicking of anima clockwork when the governor presented a gloved hand in a friendly handshake.
"Good afternoon, I am governor Mahatma of Caran," he greeted voice echoing about the room. "But before we get down to business..."
With a flick and click of his wrist, the governor signaled his attendants to leave and another made the walls light up with dark red runes. "Guards, secure the room. Let none enter nor leave until I have turned off the soundproofing wards."
"Now," he finally said, raising an appeasing hand at Ace who had leaped to his feet as soon as he had heard the word 'guards'. "What may I do for you? It's not everyday that a member of a guild thought dead asks for an audience accompanied by the city's most notorious thief and his sidekick."

Raz walked with long strides to catch up with Jasper and rested a gentle hand on his shoulder. “Slow down, don’t walk so quickly or you’ll draw attention to yourself.” In his experience, the rulers hardly ever recognized the criminals of their domain, especially petty thieves. With luck, this city would be no different. The governor would be just like other rulers and just tell his guards to take care of the crime and not bother him with all the little details.
Raz still had his hand resting on Jasper’s shoulder when the doors opened and the governor of Caran made his entrance. Raz wasn’t concerned at the room being evacuated and soundproofed. It seemed pretty slandered to him, although; he was noticeably surprised and a bit disappointed when the governor made it known that he was aware of who Jasper was.
Raz let his hand drop from Jasper’s shoulder and grasped governor Mahatma’s hand in a firm yet gentle handshake. “I am Raziel Laverick of the knights of nobility, and these are my friends.” He wasn’t sure how the wieva would react to being called a friend of the Valkyrie, but he didn’t care right now. “The land is wrought with catastrophe from chaos, and I’m hear to invoke the writ of unity.” The document was written and signed centuries ago, and Raz didn’t even know if this man knew what it was. It detailed several cities willingness to cooperate with the knights with unquestionable obedience if the need ever arose.

Jasper ground his teeth together as the Valkyrie tried to tell him how to not draw attention to himself. He wanted to hiss to the man that he knew full well how to avoid detection, but before he could, the governor's voice startled him out of his anger. Clearly there was no point in being sneaky in this place, since his reputation had spread so quickly already.
"I'm only Notorious because I'm the only one that's gotten away so far..." He muttered, huffing as he pushed the hood off his head. He'd only taken a few things from the city, honestly! Clearly the being wasn't that upset, though, since he made no motion to take action against the Wieva.
"I appreciate the formality in this city of crassness, but I feel there is truly not much I can do for you..." The elder spirit explained with a sigh, running an ethereal hand over the metal throne of the large room. "You see, I remember these writs being written, so many years ago now... But Caran has always been under the control of the house of Twilight, and has therefore sworn to remain neutral until no choice remains but to act. Even the destruction of one of the guilds in the house is not reason enough to act, though I'm sure you," The aged spirit nodded to Jasper, " would like it very much if I did. It is, after, you this gathering hoard is after, is it not?"
Jas' jaw hung open as the governor spoke, stunned that a man he had never even seen before had known so much that he had just figured out twenty minutes ago. He went to say something to protest the elder's statement of neutrality, but found his lips unable to form the words he wanted to. He staggered back towards a chair and fell into it, jostling the bird in his hood slightly with the motion.
