Rikki stood up to talk to the council. It was not something she was use to, but she felt it was important to explain how her and Phro felt.

"Good day everyone. I am just a Dolphineer, but we too feel the sting of what is going on at the Hatchings. I may be young, but I remember the stories of our past. Perhaps AVIAS can help us learn what we need so our Queens have a gold and bronzes/browns at every hatching. We need to accept these changes if we want our dragons protecting us.

Phro tells me that AVIAS helped us learn about ourselves. Maybe we started relying on it so much we didn't pay attention to the changes around us. I believe we should work with it and the craftsmen and women. Between them all, we should find a way to bring back the number of eggs in each Hatching, Gold or Crimson."

She returned to her spot, wondering how many actually listened to her short speech.

V'tur listened silently as folk from all walks of life on Pern went up and spoke to the council. Most were in favor of at least trying out the ancient technologies of AIVAS. He waited to see what his old weyr would say and was not surprised to find a mix from Igen. He was more surprised to hear many from Benden being in favor of the research. At last, it was the brown rider's turn to speak.

He stood, a rider of over a decade, as a man of Pern. "My dear council and those attending, the time has come for change. Time and time again in our history, we have seen that staying stagnant in the times has put our society and numbers at risk. Did the settlers not use their skills to create our wondrous dragons? Does not the Ballad of Lessa speak of a BENDEN gold rider, their very last one, going against the odds to bring dragon kind and our way of life back from the brink of extinction? And though, AIVAS was not completely successful in eradication Thread, did it not offer us new ways to cure hurts, disease and famines? We learned and embraced these changes because we are not cowards to hide under some rock and wait for our fate to come to us. No, we go out and take what fate would attempt to give us and make it our own!"

Iweith grumbled his agreement. The lean brown sat up tall and proud, looking out at the others before him. My rider speaks true. We can not cower from our enemy and let it defeat us.

Looking fully at the council and then looking over to the Igen delegation, V'tur turned and walked back to his place with Iweith. I hope I did well.

A man of average height steps forward when his name is called.

"Ja'syn of Brown Brynth from Benden!"

He is dressed in riding leathers that have obviously been kept in good condition. His hair is pulled back and slicked and he has a hard stare. Blatantly ignoring those around him from Trine and Malvren, He shoots S'raid a look of contempt.

"I come before this Council to put a stop to these ridiculous thoughts that some ancient house or mythical machine of the past can solve our problems. To put all our hopes and the future of dragons into some half delusional scheme is absurd. This is not Tradition. This is not how we solve our problems. For example, look at this plant fiasco! We wasted time and effort on some plant that was supposed to bring back the fertility of our queens and we get nothing. Too make matters worse, we continue to step away from the Traditions that work so well and embrace these outlandish ideas and look what happens! Riders fighting, distrust and unease amongst ourselves when we should all be united at one.

I say let's step away from this ill-fated idea and focus more on open flights and transfers. This is what we do when we have a line of riders or canines or beasts starting to go stale, we switch the blood up a bit. No longer should the Weyrs be completely closed off from each other but no longer should we let the youth and ill-advised continue to lead us down a path of self destruction. Stay away from the Ancient craft and those silly ideas that come with it. Pern has triumphed before and will do so again."

Bowing slightly, the man, Ja'syn goes back to take his place against a rather ordinary looking brown but one who has a fierce look in his eyes.
