As Vereor spoke, the 'gears' within Alexanders mind shifted, his ears recording everything that was being said, whether or not he already knew it. He was always willing to any information, especially if he could cross examine it. It gave him extra work, to keep his mind off of the mundane world around him. it was thrilling. "Could it be the suit had a circuitry glitch which attached to his physical state of being and thus resulted in...? No, no, no. Could it? ...If it could then...Hm." He was excited, to say the least. The way his eyes gleamed with the thought and the way his fingers twitched as if he were already inspecting something. "Is there going to be a need for a comparison specimen, then? If not, then analyzing the specimen would be best, if at all interesting." He had yet to hear of any other cyborg that had yet entered the place, but he would be more than happy to attempt to duplicate the model they had now with the same chemical concentration, but a different, more effective and protective core base. He could just think of all the different materials they could use! The data they could get from military bases and rewire it! His fingers tingled with the old feeling of tiny electric shocks. he had never heard of this TIGER group, but all the same it probably wasn't all that it seemed to be. Things never were, really.

The next statement almost made him feel like a kid at Christmas. His legs ceased movement as he stared at the other wide eyed, not sure if the other was joking or not. The guy didn't joke, so that wasn't the case, but this sort of thing seemed almost too unreal. Too good to be true. "Is it ready?" asked the teen, now at a loss for words. "Or, rather, is it allowed? You got approved countenance?" Not that it mattered, really. Alexander could care less whether it was allowed. The fact that the other was asking if he wanted to glean information from this new being was enough reason for him to break any rule against it. Realizing his silence, the boy once again shook his head. "Er, yes, Mr. Ryutetsin. I would very much liked to be kept informed of the progress of X.E.T.U.N.O.S. So long as you permit me to be apart of the experiment, I shall follow through with the experiment." He paused for a moment when he came to the door of the lab in which he had been in. For the moment, he was now feeling...feeling?

"If you'll excuse me...I need to get my books. If you need to get a hold of me, you have B.I.P's coordinates." Staring at Vereor silently for a bit, he turned through the doorway and over to his book bag, hefting it over his shoulder before grabbing his paper work, blue prints, maps, and cyber-engineering codes. Of course, after he put the papers in a pile, he stared at the book. An odd feeling fell over him just then, something that he didn't quite get. Not understanding, the boy frowned before putting the papers in the book before closing it gently. He'd figure it out later...it was probably just some default, misplaced emotion that was trying to resurface within him. He'd look up the symptoms or whatever emotional disease he was getting and see if there was some sort of cure to it.

Then again, the feeling of pride shouldn't be something that anyone should do without. The feeling of wanting to tell someone for some odd reason.

Yeah...he was probably just getting a cold or something. He always felt weird during those.

User ImageUser Image... so much promise.

Vereor merely nodded and gave a light wave to the younger male before continuing in his intended direction. He was, after all, originally heading tot he cafeteria to grab a bite to eat before running into the intern (though technically, the intern metaphorically ran into him). As he entered the room, he immediately scanned the area, finding that he was alone except for a single individual.

The Coffee Jockey.

Also known as Robert O'Brian, the local explosives expert, Vereor oft questioned the reason he was let into the Project. His specialty wasn't anything to do with altering life; rather, it was quite the opposite, destroying life. He had a doctorate in chemical engineering, sure, but with a concentration in explosive chemical compounds. It was actually Robert's presence in the Project that made Vereor question the purpose of said Project.

Were they using science to better understand the fabric of life? Or were they using it to create more war?

Vereor didn't care. Science was science.

"Hello, Robert," Vereor called out politely, watching as the man seemed to wait for his coffee- Vereor wasn't really a coffee person, but he'd tasted the man's brew before, and it was (thus far) beyond compare. Vereor began to get everything ready to brew a little tea before making his food. "How're things?"

User ImageRobbie looked up from the small pile of salt he had poured out onto the counter by the coffee pot. "Oh, Vereor. Hi. Could be better. I could have coffee. Except for the fact that it's TAKING FOREVER." And yes, that last bit was pretty much yelled out into the empty air of the cafeteria.

Oh, wait, empty air.

User Image"Coffee's done!" And with that, Robert left the salt alone and pulled his empty mug out of the pocket of his coat.

Pouring the hot coffee into his cup, he took a sip and smiled. Perfect. Didn't even need cream or sugar. Or something to stop a possible explosion.

"And now, it's better. You know, you should drink more than tea, Vereor. They say tea is more caffinated than coffee." Of course, you'd think that'd get him to like tea, but no, Robbie was a coffee person, enjoying the bitterness of the drink as he looked at Vereor.

"So, how goes some of the experiments? Any dead yet? Or are they actually doing something interesting?"

User ImageUser Image"I drink de-caf tea; thanks for the sentiment, however," he replied nonchalantly as he moved to the stove to begin boiling the water for his tea, turning on the rear burner. As he continued to move about the preparation area, he listened to Robert's continued talking, chuckling softly to himself.

"None have been terminated as of yet, though some came close during a run-in with the captured Montague from Verona," he mentioned with light sigh; he'd disapproved of capturing that particular monstrosity, though his genetic make-up did, indeed, prove helpful. "However, the experience seemed to jolt a few of their powers to life faster than predicted- a fortunate outcome, considering what could have been."

"Oh, and one of the ethereal creatures had to slay one of Sylvia's unfinished experiments- quite the beast, that had turned out to be," he continued, though muttering that last part mostly to himself. "The woman's research is quite intriguing. Speaking of, have you made any recent developments?"

User ImageRecent developments, huh? What a question. But Robbie didn't frown, and he didn't smile. It was...well, his answer pretty much explained everything.
User Image"Do you know of the theory of 'Spontaneous Human Combustion'? Quite the interesting theory, of people suddenly bursting into flame or exploding. Also quite founded. Humans, even though mostly liquid, are surprisingly combustable, given the right circumstances. However...getting that combustion to be triggered at the opportune moments is difficult."

Taking a sip of his drink, he sighed. "You go through subjects so fast...One good 'boom' and they're no longer useful except as explosive testing dummies...if there's enough left."

"Spontaneous human combustion is pretty unfounded, really. It proposes the burning of a living human body without an apparent source of external ignition, meaning it all would have to happen within the body," Sylvia responded to the the new ecstatic intern. She had gone to the cafeteria to fetch a cup of coffee before heading back to the lab and merely overheard the last portion of the conversation Vereor was having with... Robbie? He had his looks, but seemed far too childish for her needs. Always looking for some kind of explosion. Spontaneous human combustion? Were they in grade school? One didn't need to take years of school to figure out that spontaneous combustion of a human was high improbable. There were so many factors to take into consideration and most of the "victims" of said spontaneous human combustion were near a source of ignition such as a fireplace.

"The plausibility of spontaneous human ignition is quite low, sure you can take in the variable of the methane contained within the human intestines but more than anything, it's probably due to the wick effect of having a human's body fat serving as a candle," The botanist shrugged as she reached for a cup of starwberry jell-o, placing the plastic spoon in between her lips so she could free up a hand for a cup of coffee.

User ImageRobert had to smile as Sylvia walked into the room. Damn, the woman had a good set of legs on her. Shame she never gives him the time of day, but it was something Robbie had a tendency to look over.

Crossing his arms after setting his coffee cup down, the scientist debated how to start off his retort, before smiling wider as he watched that spoon go between her lips. Her movements said they were non-sexual, but Robbie fantasized, anyway.

User Image"True, a lot of cases tend to disprove the theory due to 'outside influence'. But, then again, how often were things like angels, demons, shapeshifters and genetically altered humans disproved by the general masses? Take a look at our experiments. We disproved the disproven...but that's besides my point."

"Not all cases of S.H.C. were 'hoaxes'. Actually, a few were quite real. And I'll tell you how it's possible, thanks to a little research and a keen interest in the subject matter. Better yet, tell me if you know. What is the mitochondria in the human body, and what does it do?" Perhaps she'd see where he was going with this. Perhaps not. Either way, could easily prove his point once that was explained.

Sylvia chewed on the end of the spoon as she listened to Robert. She even leaned against the counter, placing her jell-o cup down as she withdrew the spoon from her lips. He had a point with the angels and demons and shapeshifters, everything that could have wildly been dis-proven was residing in the building. The chemical researcher felt a smile tug at her lips... mitochondria, hmm? Both plants and creatures contained mitochondria. If 'Robbie' was eluding to what she was thinking then...

"Are you talking about the chain reaction triggered by those emotionally distressed? Which causes a reaction of nitrogen within the body which then sets off a chain reaction of mitochondrial explosions?" Sylvia asked, as she gently traced her index finger around the rim of her coffee mug. "If that's the case, that would be under the impression that nitrogen is carried in blood in its gaseous form when in reality, nitrogen is dissolved into the bloodstream alongside the other gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide," she replied simply, feeling his eyes glance across her body. Sylvia could only smile as she pocketed the spoon and jell-o cup, taking hold of the warm coffee mug with her left hand, ready for her departure. As much as she liked chit-chatting with her fellow workers, there was much work to be done.

User ImageRobbie spread his arms and bowed his head at the female scientist. "Well well, someone is smart. Then again, someone who's strong point is biology should know something like that. Regardless, kudos to you, but not exactly what I was referring to."

User ImageWatching her pocket the spoon and jell-o, Robbie could tell she was getting ready to leave. With a cup of his coffee, too.

"Now, imagine, if you will, the human body...or plant, if you so choose. Inside every cell is mitochondria, giving the cell the energy to function till it's limited lifespan is over. What if the mitochondria of every single cell in a being, suddenly shifted from just giving the cell energy, to giving off energy, namely heat energy."

With a smile, Robert grabbed his coffee cup and took a swig. "That's where cases of S.H.C. have actually seemed to occur. Mind you, they're old cases, and hardly credible. But if it was the case, wouldn't here be the best place to test it out?"
PostPosted: Sat Jun 12, 2010 9:15 pm

User Image

Yes, seemed hardly credible. Was he talking about the mitochondrial uncoupling process where protons re-enter the mitochondrial matrix? The process of mitochondrial uncoupling resulted in unharnessed potential energyof the proton electrochemical gradient being released as heat. It was overlooked by a proton channel called thermogenin and was mainly responsible for non-shivering thermogenesis usually found as brown tissue in hibernating mammals . As far as Sylvia knew, this brown tissue while present in humans decreased with a human's age. But Sylvia couldn't be too sure, she dealt more with plants than human physiology.

Sylvia smiled, tucked her free hand in her pocket as she took a small sip of her coffee... mmm, a little metallic tasting but she hardly minded. "I suppose that would be worthy of a test, but hardly my department," the botanist chuckled softly and cracked a slow smile. She bowed her head at Vereor whom she almost forgot was standing there, he had been so silent before inclining her head to Robert. "Lovely chatting with you two, I'll have to get back to work. You can drop by the lab later if you'd like," Sylvia suggested, knowing that they would all most likely be preoccupied with their own research. "Thanks for the coffee dear," she called out as she turned her back on them, waving her free arm.

"You don't seem to be looking well..."
"Here, come sit and we can talk about what is bothering you."

        Oh dear...

Things were not looking good this morning. At least, not in Nicholas's opinion.

You see, the day had started out as normal as possible. Around five thirty he had woken up, getting ready for his ever interesting position within the Noeria Research Facility when he had gotten a call from his father. A patient within his own facility was once again having horrible delusions to the point where no one could get close to them for fear of they themselves getting hurt. The slender male had taken the call and hurried over, watching as the mental patient ran around the 'Rec room', throwing over tables and chairs, threatening and cursing at the figures only he could see before gripping his hair and attempting to pull it out from his scalp. Howling and screaming and attitudes such as this was a common occurrence within the home. Nicholas himself had lived through hearing such things for so long that it no longer bothered him as he went to sleep in his own office with it's pull out bed. This didn't come without payment, of course. no man or woman could remain in a mental institution such as this and not have some lasting effects. Constantly living there had taken it's toll on Nicholas's mental state. He knew he wasn't sane. No one in this world technically was. He knew where his own demons lurked and where his insanities reached. Only, his didn't take on such a dangerous turn to the point where he himself had to be hospitalized. His insanity was different. An observing and watchful presence in him that allows him to watch people with the same amount of compassion, despite whether or not they are murderers or 'normal' human beings. Perhaps this was why he had been chosen for that one specific facility.

Anyways, the silver haired man headed over to the room and stepped inside calmly, taking cautious steps towards the figure. The man had looked up, about to throw a chair around before freezing. You see, Nicholas had this effect on some people. His femininity seemed to calm some patience down. He was like...a mother to them, at times. Did this bother the man? No. He knew very well what he was doing and how he looked, and it didn't bother him in the slightest. His job was to help people. To assess their mentality and take notes so that some time in the future he could cure someone else of the poor disease. That, or he was to keep the people here as content as possible. To lure them into what they would consider a security blanket and keep them there. This man in front of him was no exception. With soothing words and gentle motions, Nicholas had managed to persuade the man. To calm down and to sit down so the two may talk. For nearly five hours Nicholas had to speak with the man to keep him from going off on tangents. Hours he could have spent at his other job he had to spend here. He was both frustrated and displeased with himself for the fact he could not have the mental breakdown and earn the capabilities of turning back time.

User Image

All through the drive, the silver haired man sighed forlornly. The usual brisk doctor, how was always on time was running extremely late. "I just better not make a habit of it." he muttered in his soft tone, running his fingers through the free silver tresses. He didn't exactly have time to gather them in a ponytail or put them in a braid as he usually did. Pulling up into the parking lot, he hurried out of his car and grabbed his messenger bag which carried paperwork from both jobs and an assortment of other notes as well as his books from school. What? One could never come too prepared. Hurrying into the reception room, he signed in before holding up his key card into the door and sliding it in. Into the elevator he went and to the second level he arrived. Not bothering to look through the doorway of the cafeteria as he hurried to his destination.

You see, Nicholas though that 'spontaneous combustion' of a human being, or someone being able to see spirits is because that, although mental, a senile person may have more access to their brain than the average human being. There was an explanation for everything, in the eyes of Nicholas, and thus, even mental disorders and 'the unknown' could be explained. If someone believed they could fly and hovered in the air far longer than any normal person could, or if a mental patient could practically breath underwater without fear of death...it was possibly due to their break with reality and the abundant information their brain could now perceive. It was an interesting thought, that society was dumming down the human brain's ability. One that the Psychologist wished to further delve into.

Finally, when it was deemed safe, another doctor came in and knocked the man out before a small gathering or nurses escorted him out and to the cell he would be occupying for a while until he 'got better'. It was then that the silver haired beauty got up swiftly and hurried out in his work shirt and vest.

I wasn't sure if he should run into anyone...so I didn't xD; Feel free if you wanna interact with him. He'll be heading to the Observation Station...as stated above xD ~
