lmao...I love me.
Don't be mad Lulu you know I wouldn't hurt a fly...well...anyway, I'm trying to say I'm a nice guy :p
I'm glad you clarified, cuz I never really know what you're trying to say. rofl

This is gonna turn into a major argument if someone doesn't put a stop to this conversation. So I will. Sorry if I come off as bossy or elitist, but I don't want any big problems starting in the guild. I'll say what I need to say and then we can move on.

Chill out, Cream-Pie. rolleyes You're twisting her words. She isn't insulting religious people. She never said that you or anyone else was a religious nut who doesn't know anything or can't think rationally. All she's saying is that part of religion is believing without proof and that people who are desperate to explain everything with religion and start dismissing science altogether are a FAIL. And I'd have to agree.

And Zephyr, you probably shouldn't bring up religion at all, unless you know exactly what you're getting yourself into. Be mindful of the beliefs of those around you. There's a time and a place and I can tell you that PBG isn't it.

And Melbell, please don't encourage a situation that's going to turn into an argument.

This is exactly why I hate talking religion. evil Someone makes one unoffensive observation or opinion and all of a sudden everyone's on their case, twisting their words, and everyone gets mad at each other. I understand that you both feel strongly about your opinions (as do I), but really. Grow up. When you disagree with someone, take it in stride and make an effort to really understand their point of view.

Now let's talk about something else.

(Would normally agree with most of Lulu's point if not for her use of the term "grow up." stare )

Besides which, what part of "creationism is a fail!" isn't insulting or hurtful? And how is it "unoffensive" just because your views seem similar to Zephyr's? Yes, I realize I am probably overreacting, but I'm doing so intentionally to illustrate just how discourteous your whole attitudes seem. You no doubt don't see them that way, but I do, and I'm sure if I was to say "Atheism is fail!! You people want scientific proof for everything when maybe it can't all be explained the way you want!! And you seem to be forever making misguided assumptions about religion just because of the actions of super-conservative nuts who take things out of context and too literally!!" you'd probably both be screaming bloody murder.

Also, no, I do not believe anything without proof. You cannot make certain assumptions about what people believe in just because you do not see things the same way. Also note that I'M the one who first brought up the idea of religious people trying to dismiss science altogether with the quote I used, and vice-versa, and as for understanding Zephyr's viewpoint she comes across to me as small-minded and contemptuous: I don't care what the hell her opinion is, but if she can't at least try to see things from a religious person's view first before making her point and thus word it more maturely, then why shouldn't I be angry?

@Melnoli: It's all good. I was kinda expecting one of either two responses-- one, somebody leaps into action to defend Zephyr all huffy-gruffy; or two, everybody gets all super-apologetic and tries to act like they're the sweetest, kindest people ever who "understand." So Lulu's reply was at least a surprise if nothing else.

@Lulu: Why, are you considering becoming one or something?? O_o;
I'm definitely gonna become a pirate! 3nodding I'm trying to save up money and do lots of research right now, but in a couple years I'm gonna head off to sea. Probably Japan, Indonesia, and/or Somalia. pirate

I see. I do kinda agree that this is a very dangerous career choice, and if I knew you better I'd try to talk you out of it. (Not that you'd listen, but I would try.)

WOAH! All I was trying to say is that religion is based on BELIEFS, not FACTS! Or at least, that's how it seems. I mean, religious things can't really be proved, but that doesn't stop you from believing in them. You know, faith and all that. I mean, just because people don't SEE God, that doesn't keep them from believing in it.
That's all I was really trying to say.
And yes, in it's own way, Atheism fails as well. Because the lack of beliefs, it's still a belief.
But no, I'm not saying the Religions fail, just the people sometimes. And that's not to hold a few bad apples against the orchard, know what I mean?

I guess this whole thing came up because I keep hearing on the radio the people arguing for creationism and evolution and what should be taught and how in school. I think the whole argument in and of itself is stupid. Neither one can technically be proven, and thus both are only theories, and theories are along the same basis as beliefs. You shouldn't force yours on anyone, no matter what they are-scientific or religious. If someone wants to believe that God created everything, and someone else wants to believe we evolved over time from monkeys, I say let them.

Okie-dokie. I see what you're saying. 3nodding

And I really should apologize. The whole tone of your post just came across as very snide and one-sided to me, and what you really seemed to be trying to say got sadly lost it looks like. (Plus, and I might as well admit this, I was kind of in a rant-y mood right then anyway, and like I said I intentionally overreacted. sweatdrop ) So, sorry about all that. sad

Glad to know that there don't seem to be any hard feelings, though, which is something. smile

Shtuff that fails! like...um...oh! Healthy yogurt! It's already healthy as it is, to make it even more healthy just gets rid of the flavor! And it's redundant!

Ah, yes. Stuff that fails...

Meh, I actually kinda like "healthy" yogurt. sweatdrop It works well in homemade salad dressing. But to claim that it's better for you than regular yogurt is rather silly, yes. 3nodding

AND, speaking of cuisine, how about "healthy" junk food? "Low fat! Low salt! Only 60 calories per serving!" Right. Mainly because it's mostly made out of puffed air. rolleyes

Whaaaa? eek
OH! Something else that fails! People using their race as an excuse!
You see, race really isn't the big problem anymore, it's class. You know, how large the lower and lower-middle classes are as compared to the higher one?
Yet, people will try to blame what class they're in on their race. It's like, No! I mean, look at me and my bio-parents! Our skin's white, yet we lived in poverty-and lower! We lived in a chicken coup for Christs sake! And yet the Hispanic kids would come up to me and be like, "You're a spoiled white girl." And I'd be like, "Oh really? That's awfully funny, since you're wearing more money in the clothes on your back than my family makes in three months together."
Seriously kids, race is not the problem anymore.
It's attitude.
((sorry, just had to get that rant out of me! sweatdrop ))
