The young man looked up and grinned but only a little. "H-hi........"

Laura innitially backtracked with the intent of leaving the alley, but she paused and looked at him. "Hey, hey what're you doing out here in this weather? You'll catch your death, even if you've got a covering overhead."

The boy paused for a moment then smiled childishly "Oh don't worry about me..I'm used to this sorta thing." he proped himself up on a nearby rail and looked at her "I haven't seen you around here before.."

"I'm on a lot of business trips," she said with a shrug. This was true only if you considered monster-wrangling a business. "I'm not around often. Hey, what do you mean you're out here a lot? Don't you have a home?" The stormy weather intensified.

"Yeah," Laura said earnestly. Was this kid messing with her? She hated that. Then she got to thinking: she had always had a home. As a child she had lived with her parents and as an adult she had lived with the BPRD. It boggled her mind when she thought about a kid not having a home. "Why?" She blurted. Retrospectively, she thought it very rude of her. Admittedly, she wanted answers.

"Well...I can go anywhere I want and I won't be constantly surrounded by people.....although.." he paused for a moment "...it does get cold during the winter and when people notice me...it's like I am worth nothing...like a freak of some sort. But I usually conceal myself from civilians so it's not so bad." he grew silent and sat down on a nearby cynderblock (I think that's how you spell it....I don't know).

(It's spelled cinder block, but sometimes people hyphenate it or write it as one word.)
Wondering what she'd stumbled upon, Laura pressed him for more answers. "What do you mean when you say you're a freak? And you conceal yourself how?" Like a lot of people in the BPRD, Laura was a freak. She knew it, she accepted it, she put it to good use and was paid fairly. She didn't know if this kid was a genuine freak, but if he was, there was a simple procedure to be followed.

He looked up at her and then looked away "Um..." he didn't know if he should respond. Deep down he always knew that his past was horrifying and he didn't want to bring it up "......I'm....different....born with abnormal powers. And it was that..that drove my family away. I'm afraid that if I speak....you will leave." his bright cyan eyes could be seen in the darkness.

Laura knew a lot of people who'd been cast out of their families for less than freakish powers. But she knew he had them now that he'd admitted it, so she decided to win his trust. "Hang on. I'll show you my abnormal power... I can guarantee you that it's weirder than yours." She took a deep breath- and turned into a puddle. All of her extra-tactile senses kicked in. Feeling her way across the pavement, she slimed nearer to where the boy sat and changed her liquid shape so that it looked as if a clear, watery hand was reaching out to wave hello to him. Then she turned back into a human and assured him, "I promise I won't leave."

He grinned widely. He knew now that he wasn't the only one....at first he wanted to keep himself withdrawn but then he thought of the chances of him finding another person like him and he decided to open up alittle bit more. "That's cool!!....But mine are just as wierd!" he opened his sketchbook and got out a pencil. He quickly drew a small bird and he ripped out the page. "Now watch this..." he released the sheet of paper and it glowed into a white mass that formed and swirled within itself over and over. It was a quick process that gradually transmutated into a small blue bird. With a small sigh Zigfreid closed his book and extended his finger for the bird to perch upon. "What do you think?"

Laura smiled. "How whimsical..." she mused, looking closely at the small white bird. "Can you do that with any drawing?"

He looked at her "Yeah......but sometimes it's not the best thing to do. Some pictures.....have different tendencies and such. And they only last for a limited amount of time...pretty soon after thier activation they burn out.....see?" instantly the small bird puffed into white smoke. ".......but some pictures require a bigger cost...sometimes I have to spill my own blood to summon something...it's hard but I manage....And if I'm lucky...and I pour my heart and soul into my sketches.....they stay alive forever..not only in reality, but in history as well" he smiled and looked down on the wet pavement as the rain lightened a little."......But I don't like to use my drawings..I value my talent way too much to do something like that. But that's not the only power I possess...I can use playing cards!!"

Laura was saddened when the bird went away, but she was still fascinated by the boy's story. "Playing cards? How so?"

He reached into his back pocket and pulled out a deck of cards. "My gifts extend to the use of normal playing cards." he picked up the top card and put it between his fingers "Ace of spades" the card then glowed a dark purple shade and it formed into a sword. "Isn't it cool!? Spades are for sharp objects..Hearts are for Shields...Daimonds are for air projectiles and Clubs are for blunt objects! And the Joker?....well that's a different story" he smiled impishly then put the deck away. "I know they are abnormal but......they are just mere powers..nothing more..." he moved his left arm to pull down the sleeve of his right.
