I was never really sure, was there a chance that the servants could actually turn on their masters and destroy them without being sent back to wherever they were summoned from?

Nope.
They would have to find another Master to bond too.
Even Caster, who did kill her master, found someone to bond too before she faded away.
Gilgamesh only managed it because he drank from the Holy Grail in a previous war, thus psuedo-incarnating his body, which he then kept up by going around devouring people's souls for more mana.
Turning against your Master = Bad Idea.
They have to summon the Grail.
Servant's can only touch the thing, not summon.

did we ever figure out who Archer really was? that always annoyed me sweatdrop

Shirou.
He was the main character in a future sense.
After Saber ditched him he felt crushed and was later abondened by like everyone.
His 'after the story' really sucked it.
After death, for having destroyed the Grail, he became a Hero Spirit and well...
OH SHI-, SNAKE YOU CREATED A TIME PARADOX!
EDIT
His wish from the grail? Nothing, he wanted to kill himself in the past.
Thus negating his existance.
But Rin screwed up his summon and he lost his memories.

Yeah~
I'm not too concerned with alliances at the moment though.
I'm more about getting the characters in.
We can figure out who goes with who later.
In the worst case scenerio I can just take the list of unaffiliated Servants/Masters and randomize them up. xd

stare *hasn't watched the last 2 episodes* thanks Eli... I really wanted to know that the character I admired the most turned out to be a real b***h after all xp
sweatdrop I think that makes me admire her even more.. she gave up the one person she needed.*snickers again at the thought of the male being the "sheath" in this story* lol

honestly I don't want to watch the last 2.. I keep hoping that it will be like Card Captors, and just as I finish the one series a spin off will come along and make me happy all over again xp rofl *falls off of Sun's head and crashes to the floor*note to self.. never try rolling on top of someones head gonk

Not alot happened in the last two really.
I mean...it did obviously, but it seemed almost Anti-Climatic to me.
But the latest thing I've watched is Code Geass, which was totally epic, so my entire view is distorted.
Been a long time since I watched Fate/Stay Night.
But /a/ raved for so long I know practically everything about it.
And yeah.
I can only imagine some goody-Master summoning a HxC EVIL type Servant. xd
