Well, I kind of understand if you look at it that way. I kind of view my characters as acting and if something isn't working, then that just means I'm doing the acting wrong and I try to figure out how I can change some of the traits of the character but still keep the personality of the person overall.

I guess writers and actors kind of have different views of characters. That;s kind of interesting! XD

But If it works that way for you, Raven is free to transfer out of the school. ^^

I don't know. I approach RPing from a very "literary" standpoint. For me, RPing isn't about acting, but about writing a huge, collaborative story. It's like a massive writing project with many people.

And when I have a character that isn't working, I change them. I realized early on that Angela was being a little abrasive and it was making it difficult to use her, so I made her a bit friendlier and less randomly snappy at people. She still has a reputation for being serious and grouchy, but I've found it's much easier to get her involved. It's not like I took away her key traits like her sarcasm and temper--I just balanced them out better, I think. I'm not sure if anyone else even noticed the subtle change, but it made a lot of difference for me to be able to write her properly.

I am very detached from my characters, so if they're "being stupid" I just force them into submission rather than feeling like I can't do anything with them. They're my creations...not real people. XD

That's a really interesting way of looking at it! XD I've never thought much of it as a collaborative story, bu it makes sense. It's just without the sitting down and planning the beginning, rising point, climax, falling action, and resolution at the end, which is nice since it keeps things random.

I like the thought of you beating Sethrian to be good though. 8D

i tried that when i first started writing... i only got major writers block until i did what my characters wanted which is prolly why i see them more as people in my head than just characters (i know i sound crazy but its what happens lmao)
and i think im with Oz, you should draw that... cuz honeslty htat would be pretty adorable to see sethrain submit to the writer x3

also, i posted for storm xD if what to do with him today..

I can send someone out when I finalize the interacting with other people advice stuffs and gets it posted. =D But he went into the school so does that mean he's in the hallway?

I prefer to just draw him in humiliating ways as punishment. emotion_awesome

I totally get that its easy to see your characters as "people" because once you set up their personality and history and all, they do have a specific "in character" way of behaving that can surprise you. I mean, sometimes I plan one thing but realize half way in that it's not going to work because that isn't in character. Cheeva and I once planned for her character Kered to be Seth's friend in another RP. And when they met, they ended up hating each other. Kered would say or do something and I would just know that to keep Seth in character, he had to be annoyed by it. So the planned friendship just didn't work out.

But there's a point when all writers have to be able to rein in their characters if they get out of control. I have a friend who constantly complains that her characters "want" to do something that will disrupt the RP, cause problems, ruin scenes, etc. And she acts like it's impossible to make him not do it. And that's just silly. It's her character. There have been several times in Rosentale so far that I know Angela would naturally have hit someone. That's her knee-jerk response and it is 100% in character for her to do it. But I couldn't have her just punch someone, so I didn't. I found an alternative response that was less dramatic, yet still "Angela."

I think that when a person gets so emotionally invested in their characters that the character can't function properly, it's really an issue with the writer/actor and not the character. At that point, the person has the choice to make themselves shape up, or they can just act like it's all the character's fault and give up them. The problem is that doing the latter, means they're probably just going to continue to run into the same problem with their other characters--because it wasn't the character's personality that was the main issue.

(Not meant to be accusatory at all. I've found myself in that same position many times. But really, to RP well, you have to be flexible with your characters; that's just part of RPing properly.--and that is a general "you," not you in particular). LoL

thanks, that totally makes sense! I'll keep that in mind next time im having trouble. Storm having his anger issue (plus the whole vamp thing)
will probably end up being a challenge. but i hope i can gather and create some dominance over it all...

lmao idk... sethrian is having girl problems and storm considers himself a pretty good ladies man (so he thinks) but hes only good with the ladies, im not sure if he's ok with other guys (and the last vamp guy he met tried to kill him. so the first vamp guy he meets he might get all defensive.) lmao idk we'll just have to see how stuff plays out

Well, Seth isn't a vampire--he's an Unseelie faerie. Though I wasn't sure from that if you thought he was a vampire or not. But basically he's one of these guys:

Quote:
The Unseelie Court consists of the malicious and evilly-inclined fairies. Unlike the Seelie Court, no offense is necessary to bring down their assaults.[6] As a group (or "host"), they appear at night and assault travelers, often carrying them through the air, beating them, and forcing them to commit such acts as shooting elfshot at cattle.[7][8] Like the beings of the Seely Court who are not always benevolent, neither are the fairies of the Unseelie Court always malevolent. However, when forced to choose, they will always prefer to harm—rather than to help—humans.

Well, he's half Human, so he's not as inclined to hurt people but I suppose that does contribute to the constant cranky behavior. LoL
