Vintrict I judge based on the tactics of the fight and what counts as sensible. If you had used the rapier in a creative way that would have made me go "Ah, I get it," I wouldn't have thought it was bad. That's the only way you would have gotten a better score from me about it. Didn't Tres like, stab him in the heart or something? lol, I don't know how hard it is to say "ah, I get it" when its in his chest. but its cool dude, I understand. I'll let Sigil Warden teach me how to creatively use a rapier. At least I got the putting-it-in-the-chest part of it down.

I feel like though it would be roleplaying out of character because no where on Tres's profile does it say:
"Tres knows how to use a rapier"
He just knows the sharp end goes into the chest.

You stabbed him in the chest because your opponent let you, despite the attack being completely ineffective from both lack of power and bizarre angle. EDIT: If you/your character doesn't know what they are doing with the weapon, why pull it out in the first place?

Sigil Warden You stabbed him in the chest because your opponent let you, despite the attack being completely ineffective from both lack of power and bizarre angle. That may be. Gonna have to grab Doji for that story hook about learning how to use a sword correctly. That will be fun. Edit: Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Though that being said, arrogance is given to stupidity.
I could see Tres thinking he is way better at something than he actually is and paying for it.
Though you bring up a good point Sigil-Warden. I should do more research on something before I try to depict it. Thats legitimate.

Ideally, you want to reach a point where your writing gets the technical part across without sounding dry or forced, and doing research helps that simply because you can write about it more naturally.
Fencing in particular is a very fluid style of combat when taken off the piste (although it can be even on it). There are literally dozens of styles, from rapier to epee to saber to longsword to daggers and everything in between. In such a setting as this, it is acceptable to borrow from several styles to create a comprehensive whole for whichever weapon you chose.
Keep in mind however that mastery would require a great deal of devoted time and focus. I would recommend simply looking at basic thrusts, parries, ripostes, and lunges for a base springboard.

I'll try to stick to either punching, choking, breaking, or shanking from now on. A being of confidence ought not to use weapons he isn't confident with. Though "Punching, Choking, Breaking and Shanking" sounds like an awesome catch phrase. Consider one of my stolen catch phrases replaced.
