"This is a TVR Lotus Esprit. It's not the only one in the world, its not even the only one that's purple, but its mine and I cherish it. Please at least ask before you do that."
She never even looked across at him, crossing her hands over on the steering wheel as she guided the sleek car around a corner and onto the long track out towards the mansion. After a few more seconds of silence...
"You're welcome. But you'd do better thanking the Professor."

Granted. Sorry.
He pulled his hand back from the radio dial and kept it squarely in his lap. A few seconds passed, then he nodded.
I have, but more to the point, I'm guessing this was your plan from the point where you called me up to talk last. So still...thank you, though I have to ask...why's it have you so furious? Do you know what that thing is, or is it just the principle of the matter?

"I know that a man I despise abused you and left you on my door, and out of an honour obligation I bartered on your behalf, even when it was hard, thinking I knew what I was up against. I started making progress, albeit slow, and suffered hours of uncertainty and deep thought on what to do when things went downhill. I watched you come in half butchered, by your own hand because of him, and now I know it was all a farce, because the chip I was bargaining for wasn't even the one I could see, it was hidden inside of you and never even mentioned.
I know he crossed a moral line of mine in both deceiving me as well as you, puppeteering us both, and doing it in such an invasive manner.
And worst of all, he did JUST so we'd each feel the way we do now, because that what he is and what he does, and I'm practically doomed to repeat it given enough time.
I have cause to be angry. including at myself. I should have had you fully checked a lot sooner."
She spoke with increasing venom as they drove, pushing the pedal to the floor and coaxing more speed out of the car as anger begat a release of some kind, currently found in a need for speed, if only to get home and potentially out of this conversation.

Nines nodded as she explained, at least feeling safe enough about her anger being directed at someone other than him.
I'd agree with you if I were so damn terrified of it all.

"It's a big, nasty world full of sharks, and we are but guppies among them."
Slowing, she turned towards the mansion, and parked out the front, bringing the car to a complete stop, but not yet getting out.
"One day though... one day, I intend to see him hang. For more than just what he's done to you, or to me, in all this. He doesn't know where you are anymore. If I wake up in the evening tomorrow and you're gone... I will neither blame you, nor look for you. And all he will find is a pig."

Not gonna happen, though I won't lie when I say I really, really want to.
Nines leaned back in his seat, staring out the windscreen without looking at anything in particular.
Until I know what that thing was and what it did, I can't be sure this all won't come back to bite all of us in our collective asses. I've got to stick around at least until then, for more than just my own sake.

"Hardly the right reasons for staying, but if it pleases you, I've no objection. So... dinner?"
getting out of the car, she'd hand the keys to Jan as he appeared, then head into the house and towards the kitchens, leaving Nines the option to follow her, or not, at his own discretion. The house seemed busy, servants in a lot of places they had been conspicuously absent in of late.

I hate to say it, but I've hardly had the right reasons for anything lately. Doesn't change the fact that I owe you an apology still for our last talk.
Nines slid from his seat and onto his feet, intent on following Roan for a little while longer.
Especially considering what you were trying to do, I screwed the pooch hard.

"Truthfully? Yes, you did. Maybe not in the way you think you did though, I don't know. I feel like we're always talking at cross purposes, and it frustrates me. In that light... apology accepted."
She went to the fridge, then the stove, pulling down a copper pot to pour bagged vitae into for heating it up, before sitting down at the old wooden table in the corner.
"Wanna start over?"

It's been bugging me over the past few nights...who was the third glass for?
Nines dropped the question, then found himself a place to sit. Easing into the chair, he heaved a soft sigh.
Alright, so we start over. What do you propose we do from here?

"A friend."
She spoke shortly, not really wishing to discuss the glasses conundrum right now. Then she stuck out her hand towards Nines.
"Lady Roan DeSeer. I have an albino a*****e and his demented brother who need killing and I need help to do it. It will be a long, difficult, weird journey, but it pays well. Interested?"

A friend. Right.
He kept his mouth shut on that line of discussion past the one final comment; it wasn't worth pursuing considering the shaky ground he stood on. Instead, he extended his hand.
Nines. I've got more experience in shooting people than I'd like, no interest to continue the line of work, but I'll work for you anyways.

I'd like a stab a' that b*****d meself..."
Strolling into the kitchen at the tail end of their conversation regarding glasses, and an albino Corbin was dressed rather unremarkably just as he normally did. A fitted black vest and jeans of the same colour with an empty shoulder holster and sheath strapped above his tail.
In one hand he held a bottle cap between his fingers and was rolling it with a little less than deft speed and precision. That, was in fact because he was doing it with Potence, and the goal was to NOT pinch or bend it. This a part of his ongoing training to master the tools he had at hand at present.
Offering Roan a nod he then looked to Nines,as he hopped up to take a seat on one of the counter tops and begin searching for his smokes with one hand in his pants.
"Y'alright matey? Look like you 'ad teh stuffing sucked out ya."

"I'm sure you would. Better be for the right reasons too though... our nasty little friend is no push over or video game challenge. Properly riled... he isn't kind enough to just kill you."
She stood up, and headed over to the stove to take the vitae off the hob and pour into three glasses. The excess was poured into a pitcher to pop onto the table, then it was into the sink with the pan before she returned to her seat, passing drinks to both men.

"I 'ave a feelin' my reasons'll get better with time... 'n' exposure."
Finally managing to light a cigarette he leaned back with a casual sigh, resting his shoulders against the wall with a long recline in his posture. Practically laying down.
"'n' I know, I seen..."
It wasn't said with a cocky nature, or with any sense of arrogance. More like an after thought he wasn't even aware he'd spoken aloud. The point made more evident as his focus had turned to his excercise again, until Roan brought over the drink.
"I was gonna go see teh Professor, but might be a bit late now fer tonight. Guy can't work teh same hours we do all teh time, right?"
