{ ATE : Confused Illusions : 13 }
{ Riku ; ??? : Shipwreck Cove : Balconies -> Red Rose Kitchen }

It didn't take long for them to get back into the Rose, where Riku brought them to the one place people wouldn't be at this time of night-- the Kitchen. Taking a seat, the Keyblader took the sphere from his pocket and began to fiddle with it, rolling it around in his hands, running his fingers over it...

"Maybe if I..." he muttered before giving the sphere a small spark of his own magic. Without warning, the sphere suddenly flashed with light, and when the light faded, the sphere was no longer a cloudy blue. Instead, they could see Zexion inside the sphere, leaning over a computer, his zipper and necklace glimmering slightly in the computer's odd, fluorescent glow, and typing rapidly, glancing back to the sphere every now and then.

"Let me start by saying I have no idea where exactly I am, or how I got here," he said, staring into the sphere intently. His face was contorted into analytic confusion, his brows furrowed under his hanging hair. "The last thing I actually remember with clarity is preparing to battle the Replicas at Beast's Castle. In the midst of fighting, Xaldin, Larxene, Luxord, and some old crone swooped down and separated me from the rest of the group with a card barrier... I lost, but after that, everything becomes very... fuzzy."

By this point, he'd gone back to typing away at the computer, pausing every once in awhile to sniff the air and glance up, as if watching for someone. "Some memories come through clearer than others. Saving the young man and woman from hanging in Port Royal... surveying the carnage wrought by Chaos in Tortuga... Everything else is a blur, as if I didn't experience it."

His eyes narrowed at the computer screen for a moment, but he continued. "I knew I couldn't leave, though. Something... something kept me in this tower. It is a tower, I can tell that much. And the scents... Xaldin, Larxene, Luxord, Kefka, the old crone that attacked me, another scientist by name of Lugae... and Xehanort. Not his Heartless, not Xemnas... Xehanort, as he once was. Some of the Replicas were here at some point, as well as Chaos. There are a few odd scents that I don't recognize or are too old to identify, as well."

"That, however, is where technology comes in handy. For instance, when I snuck into this laboratory, the computers had their data locked by a mere biometric scan... and apparently, mine registered. During my lapses of memory, I've been working here," he mused, frowning somewhat as he dug up file after file. "One of Lugae's experiments, with aid from Kefka... the Terra Project, some girl fused with an Esper's magic... Kefka wouldn't say which. She's lying around here somewhere, the scent is oddly familiar. And another batch of Replicas... I'd engineered them using my knowledge of Vexen's work, more than likely why they needed me. There was an anomaly, it seems--" his eyes narrowed as he went over what was apparently his own research. "Those that already had an existing Replica began to self-abort-- too unstable. I was able to keep them stable with... Slave Crowns? Creations of Lugae's... a simple golden band around the forehead, forcing the wearer to obey orders given by certain individuals."

Zexion snorted. "I gave them over to Ajora, it seems. Wrote a note down that I expected he'd remove the crowns. Anyway, the Replication process... we take copies of all the non-Light memories from the target, as well as a copy of their metaphysical essence-- think of it as a magical fingerprint, with no two being identical. The problem is, they're not naturally stable. The idea was to create beings who had Hearts of pure Darkness, and that is not something... natural. Especially since we have to use a template that originally had Light. We had to make something complete from lacking materials... but Vexen found a way to do so. Simple, really-- take the darkest memory, the blackest ideal, and use it as the core around which all the other memories will wrap, shielding the Heart from Light being added. If you can get to that root, however--"

Something seemed to catch his attention beyond the computer. He sniffed the air thoroughly before going back to the computer typing even more rapidly. A small portal appeared off to the side, and a Dusk could just barely be seen.

"I don't have long before Xaldin stops in," he explained, rapidly typing in a message before closing all documents and grabbing the sphere, picking it up and looking toward the Dusk. "They're all working together... And the Darkness is thicker here than anywhere else. Don't come for me. It's suicide. By the time you arrive..."

He suddenly stopped everything, holding one hand to his head, as if he was getting a headache.

"I don't know why my memory is lapsing. I don't... know why I can't leave. If my memory was so clear before that battle, then something changed there, when they had me separated. But I..." he muttered, shaking his head. "I'm slipping. Go, go quickly--"

The sphere cut off, returning to its original cloudy-blue glow.

{Lexaeus: Shipwreck Cove : Balconies -> Red Rose Kitchen }

Lexaeus had taken a seat to listen to the message. He quietly sat, elbows on his knees and fingers laced together. He even rested hi chin on his hand, taking in every word.

So...Zexion was at least still 'alive'. That was a plus. But...working on things he normally wouldn't work on. The slave crowns...and then not remembering things. But he had three targets, now, that'd know where he would be.

Ajora.

Lugae.

Xaldin.

Three names, one of which he knew personally. Those were the next keys to the puzzle that was Zexion's whereabouts. That, and 'Ribo' and the amount of darkness in the place. It wasn't a lot, in the long run...but it was something he could work with.

[[ATE: Stacked Deck]]
[[Louis : Caribbean Sea : Some Time Between 3 & 4AM]]

[[Cue: Forest Library by Tutti Sound]]

The slow rise and fall of waves on the surface of a vast sea was joined by an unexpected visitor. Cloaked in darkness and seemingly floating atop the water, Louis strolled a few paces, fog spreading out from his feet over the surface. In one dirrection, on the horrizon, Shipwreck cove, on the other, little more than dots were the ships allied to the EITC, and judging by the feeling tugging at his gut, The Flying Dutchman.

Wasting no time at all, Louis held out his right arm, ice extending from his palm forming a sharp pole floating just off his skin. There was a dull purple glow, then his Naginata, Cocytus, dropped from magical suspention to his grip. He began to spin in place, polearm dancing from one hand to the other. The blade struck the water, leaving it undisturbed, passing through as though it were never there.

Darkness trailed off his form like cloth and smoke intertwined. From afar, his form was almost indistinguishable from the moving, glimmering sea reflecting the moon and stars of the 3 AM sky. From a closer perspective, the darkness held to him so closely that it would appear as though he wore nothing at all but the darkness itself, like thin sheets draped from his skin.

His dance grew in intensity, movements went from smooth, continuous motions, to sharp, quick strikes. It was as though he went from dancing to fighting an unseen enemy. His blade cut through the water and air, shimmering and glistening with the light of the moon above. At last the two motions came together, sharp cuts in motion glossed over with gentle waves of enery passing from one point on his body to the next. With the darkness flowing with him, it was hard to distinguish the mood from mesmerizing or frightening. All the while, a heaviness hung in air, casting the entire display into a pit of worry and mystery.

Right on que and just where one would expect a dance to end, the arcanist stoped. He stood there, feet engulfed by the thick fog, frozen in place like a statue. Finally he brought his free hand up and gripped the pole of his weapon. With both hands and a ritualistic precision, he brought the weapon to a vertical stance, blade pointed stright down. And with nothing left, he released the blade, allowing it to float there and gather dark purple light to its core. He stepped back with both palms open to the sky and a bow as though to an invisible audience. He continued to backpeddal as Cocytus drifted down, into the fog, vanishing from sight.

A large and bright purple glow errupted from beneath the widespread fog, the source, only decernable from high above the ocean. A gigantic glyph shined for a split second, sending out a dull bass and large ripple once before vanishing from sight entirely.

Louis opened his eyes for the first time since the ritual began, pupils expanded to the edge of each lid to form onyx spheres, given life deep within by a subtle glow. A nuetral glare, void of any real expression adorned his face as he spoke out loud to the suit of armor behind him, "Now we wait... and let fate play our cards for us."

With gust of wind and spray from crashing waves, both vanished, leaving the sea just as it was before they'd arived.

[[ATE: Right Through Your Fingers]]

[[Cue: Luna Dial & A Pocket Watch of Blood ナイフが語るは真なる正義 by Tutti Sound]]

"Joe! With me," Louis shouted over the hoards of enemies and their battlecries. The two moved in tandom, striking one after the other and cutting down one heartless where the other was left open. Their teamwork was ironic, less an interest in protecting the other as much as a drive not to allow the other to be struck and be held accountable. In short, the two were more in competition with each other than comrades but their teamwork struck a positive chord.

Whirlwinds drove up the flanks as Dawn and Sayrike rode the wind, fans and mirrors alike acting as buzzsaws against the creatures of darkness. Sayrike reflected every move Dawn had to offer, their combined powers turning the front lines into no less than the eye of a hurricane, winds crushing all their targets outside it.

Spears arced overhead as Noelle gave the order to a line of spined flowers, launching large spikes like a garrison of archers. The middle of the advancing force was made quick work of by the ranged attacks, running through countless heartless and saving allot of trouble for the forward combatants. There was an army coming for them, master unknown, not that that mattered. It was a struggle for survival. The earthlings would stand together and fight till their last breath if that was what it took. Hordes of enemies charged, with no end in sight. Hundred, thousands, hundreds of thousands of heartless marched in their dirrection. They had their weapons and each other and nothing was going to pry either from each other's grip.

"Incoming," Amy shouted as she aimed her pistols to the sky. A large explosion of darkness shook the group but miraculously, thanks to the white mage, left everyone unharmed. The gunner let lose a string of glowing white bullets that only grew in intensity as they flew. Then, like cannon balls, the bullets dropped onto the swarm of monsters, detonating like grenades.

Louis cut another shadow down by Joe's side, turning to find a single enemy slip through both of their defenses. As it raised a greedy claw to strike, a golden chain cut between the two fighters and broke the creature into pices. Anthony shouted something over the noise about being careful, then turned away from the main enemy force to give Kyle a swift nod. A flicker passed over the battlefield, shifted things, then set them back as they were.

"All clear! Everyone get back!"

Kyle ran forward as Louis and Joe split up, turned to the flanks and the girls, and lent their aid as shields from the inevitable shockwave to follow. The holy dragoon was glowing, golden light encasing his body, shining light giving off an image of what could be recognised as the iconic dragoon armor. He ran up to Anthony who held out one of his massive gauntlets. A song carried over the battlefield at the same time, the enemy force slowing to almsot a complete stop as Jenny held the note on her flute.

At last Kyle reached Anthony and lept up on his arm. Anthony pulled around and threw Kyle with all his might to the sky. The dragoon activated his leap and soared ever higher in the blackened, gloomy sky. At his command, the sky grew black, then dotted itself with hundreds of stars. It was, for a moment, a beautiful sight to behold, before the sky returned to its gloomy color and with it, a shower of falling stars bombarded the ememy force, completeing with a finalle as Kyle collided with the center of the enemy force. Light spred to ever corner of the battlefield along with a wave of black dust and enough kickback to knock near everyone by themselves right off their feet.

When the light and soot cleared, Kyle stood in the middle of the empty field with golen wings spread out to each side. Green grass and sunlight covered every inch as far as the eye could see. Another flicker as his visage shifted just a little bit, white to red and back again.

"We did it," Louis cheered along with the others, shouting priase and blessings across the battlefield to one another.

Louis strolled forward, shading his eyes as he looked up at the brilliant blue sky, "We did it."

As he reveled in the peacful moment, a high pith whine in his ears followed by a erruption of force behind him, knocked Louis from his peaceful reprieve. He scrambled on the ground, gripping at every parch of grass to stop his quick, unexpected acceleration. As he regained his blance and was albe to stand, he glanced around the battlfield to assess the damage.

To his horror, everyone, all of those he fought alongside, lay scattered and bloody. In the center, holding Kyle by the throat was a monster, unlike any heartless, but unmistakable as one. With bladed fingers and a razor sharp mouth, clad in jagged black armor, it held Kyle up with one arm as though he weighed little more than a feather.

"Let him go," Louis seethed, gripping his rapier tightly as his temper rose, "I said, put him down."

"Run yourself dry," it hissed, "...and drop dead."

Louis screamed out but his voice fell sillent as the creature closed its grip and promptly threw the bosddy aside. The two met, rapier against claws. The monster efortlessly overpowered Louis, and cast his rapier aside. Before he could even recall it, he was thrown back and cut across the chest. He collapsed on his back and struggled to stand.

The dark dark creature stood over Louis, its dark purple eyes burrowing into his, its bladed fingers and arms drenched in his comrades' blood. Static shifted the image again, Louis now standing over himself, rapier poised over his free hand, leveling for a clean killing blow. Another flicker, another shift, the monster again hovering at his throat, bladed maw curved into a grin. Louis' breathing quickened, panic overwhelming him. Please... no... somebody... anybody...

The monster raised its claw, another two flickers in quick succession, blurring the image, please... "HELP ME!"

Louis awoke from his dreams with a start, throwing himself forward into a sitting position. His breathing had not lessened, his chest still heaving in and out as sweat coated his forehead, neck, and back. His hand immidiately went to his throat as the feeling of butterflies and mosquitoes still swarmed the area of the wound. His hand caressed the unbroken skin, allowing his nerves to settle.

As Louis pulled his hand away, a flicker shifted his vision for just a moment, turning his hand into a blood soaked talon before flashing back to reality. Louis felt a tear run down his cheek from his watery eyes and quickly ran a hand over them to clear any sleep. Louis took his head in his hands and curled up as he felt his stomach turn. Just go back to sleep... it was just a dream.

[ATE: Master and Apprentice]
[Anthony ~.~ Shipwreck Cove ~.~ Secluded Balcony]

Anthony watched Louis in awe as he played with the darkness as it swirled around his hand; passing between fingers and jumping from one hand to the other. The control he displayed was marvelous; especially with an element like darkness. The knight probably couldn't even do that with his own element.

The young man nodded in agreement with everything the arcanist had to say. He understood, for the most part, what he was talking about. Given the recent event, Anthony had plenty of negative experiences to feed upon. Like the destruction of Earth and the loss of his loved ones.

Anthony flinched as the orb expanded and shot out into the sky, once again captivated by the sight and Louis' words. He wanted to learn.

"No, of course. I totally understand," the young man finally said in response to Louis' warning. "I've lived my entire life struggling with what is good and evil. I've been taught to do good and shun evil. 'Do to others what you would have them do to you,' you know? The Golden Rule. But the more I try, the more I feel torn and broken inside. And I'm tired of feeling so confused and worried about what I can and cannot do. I just wanna accept this part of me and not be ashamed of it."

Anthony paused. His jaw locked and his gaze to the floor. He thought about his upbringing and everything he was ready to reject. He thought carefully about his next words. "I just want harmony."

{ ATE : To Give In to Temptation... [Part One] }
{ Kyle ; Ultima : Kyle's Heart : Station of Awakening }

The High Seraph stood along the ledge of Kyle's Station, arms crossed and eyes narrowed in analysis. Even now, she was still trapped in an adolescent form, restrained from what would be considered her full power. But what she had was still ample enough for Kyle's devices, as his body was still getting accustomed to the new, mystical rules of this new existence. He was growing-- they all were, but he was growing into a fitting Avatar for her to fill.

He pushed himself. Too far, perhaps, but he pushed regardless. His reasons were not unknown to her, but they perplexed her all the same. Yet, at the rate he attempted to progress, she feared she might not have her Avatar for much longer.

"Kyle, this is not the wisest choice," she voiced, staring at the web of prismatic lights that enveloped the blackness around his Station of Awakening. The multi-colored veins of mana appeared like a spherical, labyrinthine barrier, with various colors such as gold, white, green, teal, lavender, maroon, red, blue, and indigo alternating in places.

.:Perhaps not, but if it gives us any sort of advantage, then it's worth the risk..:

Ultima rolled her eyes before turning around, walking on bare, tan-blue feet back into the Station's main mosaic. Her eyes wandered over the picture, or what was visible of it. "Perhaps, but simply because you have the will does not mean your body or heart will have the endurance," she explained, kneeling down for a moment to look at something.

.:The needs of the many, Ultima.:.

"'Outweigh the needs of the few', yes, yes, I've heard it a thousand times," she groaned, running a hand over the black stain that covered the face on the Station's mosaic. The stain had been there since she'd arrived, but it had since grown, censoring the body and various faces in the smaller circles nearby. Such blots had come from the times when the Darkness was simply forced in, like the battle with the nameless hellion, or during his time with that empathy curse.

.:And you'll hear it a thousand more, if it takes that long to sink in.:.

In the past few hours, the Darkness had grown restless. It ebbed; it flowed; it fluxed. As Kyle pushed himself further, the blot seemed to become irritated... or excited. It responded to the Seraph's touch, acting almost as an adhesive as she tried to move her hand. She pulled back, but doing so did not calm it; on the contrary, the stimulation seemed to give it the idea to rise somewhat.

"You're no good to anyone if your body gives out," she explained, cupping the rising Darkness into her hand. It separated from the blot, acting almost like living mercury in her palm as it retained its slowly shifting form.

.:And what good am I if I don't try my best? I'll not live with any more regret than I already have. I will do everything in my power, just as they will. If Joe had the option, if Noelle had the option, or Mathy, or Jenny, they would all do the same. But they don't have this option-- only I do. So it's my job to complete.:.

Ultima remained silent for a moment, watching the black mass fluctuate in her hands with neutral eyes. "So be it, then," she responded, cupping the mass with both hands, cradling it between her palms.

{ Riku : Red Rose : Training Chamber }

As she took a seat and calmed herself, Riku let the silence linger for a moment. He was attempting to calm himself, as well. There were decisions gnawing at the back of his mind-- decisions that could alter everything he and Sora had worked for so far.

Was he really ready to try again...?

"Before you can begin to feel the changes around you," he began, keeping his eyes closed. "You have to be in tune with the constant flux within you. Darkness and Light are always in motion, ebbing and flowing with the state of your emotions and thoughts. Your stain may be static, a scar upon your Heart, but it's only the mark left by the perpetually-moving dark energies-- the erosion caused by the waves."

"Try to visualize it as your typical yin and yang," he explained, remembering his time in the Land of Dragons. "We all have both halves inside of our hearts. Search yourself, find the path the Darkness takes as it flows through you. It's easiest to start with the vices you have most trouble with-- the obvious crests of the waves. From there, you'll want to follow its path, tracing the tide of emotions and memories that might lead you to such crests. Does that all make sense?"

{ ATE : Feeling Out the Dark Pockets : 2 }
{ Noelle : Red Rose : Training Chamber }

"Yeah, makes sense enough." Noelle replied softly, relaxing more and more. She concentrated, trying to visualize it as Riku had suggested--perpetually moving energies.

Her mind traveled to the time she had gone to her heart station with Titan. There was a large puddle, a mass of darkness there, ebbing and flowing like it had life. That's what she wanted to get to. But in order to do that . . . she guessed she'd just start with her "vices." What she had would be plenty of fuel for seeking out her darkness--a whole lot of emotion. She knew what to go to first. Anger. As much as she hated it, she had a lot of anger, especially for a certain person in her life. Noelle began trying to evoke it with memories, reviewing times where she was yelled and snarled at, the names she had been called, the emotional abuse, the neglect of her little sisters, watching her mother spiral . . . the memories started acting as a magnet to those crests and waves that Riku was talking about. The agromancer was beginning to feel them now. Had her counterpart had his eyes open he would have seen different brief expressions jump across her face like a nervous twitch.

". . . Okay," Noelle said eventually, an emotional strain in her voice making it sound slightly agitated.

{ Riku : Red Rose : Training Chamber }

He had remained quiet, focusing inward while she did, looking into the eyes of his own inner demons. He couldn't make the same mistake twice, he couldn't lead her down the wrong path...

"Now... let it go," he explained, his own voice having the barest hint of tension in it; he could keep his cool in the toughest of situations, but this isn't something he'd done in quite some time. "Slowly step back and away, and watch where it goes. Feel how it tries to recede back into the corners of your heart, into the dark pockets you don't always see. Feel that sensation of calm, as the Light fills up the space the Darkness had just occupied. To and fro... ebb and flow..."

By this point, both of them were probably in a near-hypnotic trance as he continued to guide her through her heart... and as he tried to jump the hurdles in his own.

"It's easy to lose track of it, once the Light's returned, once you've calmed yourself. You may have to try it a few times before you retain awareness of the dark pockets," he explained, inhaling slowly and exhaling similarly. "It will be emotionally trying, regardless, but this is the safest way to acclimate your heart-- by letting you get used to all of it, all the time."

{ Noelle : Red Rose : Training Chamber }

Noelle felt some relief at being told she could let it go. She was used to having emotions stirred up inside, gnawing at her conscience, but it didn't make it any less unpleasant. Riku's voice was all that she could hear, keeping her entranced with its guidance. The small blonde began to release her emotions, exhaling and inhaling uniformly, pulling farther and farther away from the living form of Darkness in her heart. She made sure to be very aware of where it receded to so she could immediately go back there next time. From there she purposefully let it go completely, wanting to challenge her ability to find it again. A few moments passed where she was relaxed and basked in the Light that filled back in where the Darkness had washed in. After taking this brief break, she began the process again.

The agromancer did the same thing three more times, feeling it come more and more easily each time, though still feeling unnerved at its presence. Each time she felt this fear that it would not recede back into the corner of her heart where it belonged. She hoped that eventually that fear might fade, but the caution would always remain. The course of her meditation took quite a time, but she did not tire. Her determination was too great.

"I think . . . I'm starting to get the hang of it." Noelle said eventually, her voice very soft and calm.

{ Riku : Red Rose : Training Chamber }

Riku never spoke, never interrupted her concentration after his last instruction; she'd be done when she was done, no sooner. They had time.

"Good. Now that you've grown used to feeling the balance of Light and Darkness in your own Heart, you can turn to the world around you," he explained, remaining in his position. "If you can identify the flowing essences within yourself, you should be able to do the same around you. Light and Darkness are everywhere, in everything... you could almost say they make up a reality underneath what we see."

"When there is an abundance of Light in a region, it will be naturally warm, life will be naturally drawn there, it will thrive... nature and the world will seem at peace," he continued. "Too much Light, of course, and the region might seem... hallow. The life will be protective, sometimes zealously so, and may attack anything that might seem impure."

"When there is an abundance of Darkness, the air will seem cold, and life tends to stray away. Not necessarily like an icy mountain, it will be a different sort of cold. Darkness is not evil, but it is not kind. In nature, the strong survive, and the Darkness acts as that equalizer," he explained. "Too much Darkness, and as you would expect, the region becomes harsh, unforgiving, savage..."

"As you would expect, few places in the world are solely one or the other, and as such, the two forces are always intermingling... ebbing and flowing," he said, finally connecting the current point to the last lesson. "There is almost always a bit of both, and they move, they interact, they make up the world around you. Turn outward, but focus not on what you see, hear, smell... focus on the world beneath reality that makes everything as it is. Find the light spots and the dark pockets that exist around you."

{ Noelle : Red Rose : Training Chamber }

Noelle nodded, then felt silly because Riku wouldn't be able to see her. Feeling out the Darkness outside of herself proved similar, but much more difficult. Her first attempt was with the most obvious source she could find--Riku. Her concentration deepened as she took long, steady breaths. The longer she concentrated the more she could feel the forces outside of herself. Riku's was the most apparent, so she focused on it. It was almost like seeing an aura in her mind's eye--a faint glow from his chest, but it wasn't all a light color. It was a moving mix of two different shades, though with distinct borders. The more she branched out around her the more she could see the same thing in everything, and yet Riku's was different. His balance was . . . off.

"How far out can you see?" Noelle asked, brows furrowed. "And what, if anything, might affect my ability to sense the balance?"

"There are a number of factors that can affect both things," he explained. For the first time in years, he could feel the energies around him again. He could feel the neutrality of the chamber, and he could feel the odd balance in his protégée. It wasn't so much that she was pure, but her Light was... strange. Something about it wasn't normal.

I wonder...

It had been a few moments before he thought to speak again; he'd been distracted. "As I explained earlier, if you're unfamiliar with your own heart, feeling out the heart of others, the heart of the world around you, will make it all seem like a blur. Sometimes, the world will be too chaotic to see any specifics-- the upcoming battle might be one of those instances."

"Something to keep in mind is that people are not only affected by Light and Darkness, but also affect Light and Darkness. For instance, a Princess of Heart's Light might distort the balance around them," he continued. "There will be others more powerful than you, and they may have the ability to distort things-- blind you to their intent, or even fool you all-together. So you must remember that even if your sense becomes extraordinarily accurate or detailed, it's still a sense-- capable of being misled or manipulated."

"That brings me to your first question. How far you can see, how detailed your 'vision' is-- they're both dependent on your skill, your stain... even your own balance or lack thereof can be a factor, no matter how in tune you are," he explained. "Those with darker hearts will be able to detect other dark-hearts without even trying, due to being more in tune with the Darkness; similarly, those with lighter hearts will almost instinctively trust others like themselves. For either, with the right amount of effort, usually more for Light, they could detect the other. Understandably, those with a balanced, neutral heart-- or lack thereof-- are more apt at the skill, but will also struggle to keep that balance, since true neutrality is nearly impossible."

"Don't be surprised if you can't see very far or clearly. You've only just begun training-- it will clear up with practice," he said, continuing his breathing. "But don't expect to become as apt as Zexion was with his sense of smell-- in my experience, that only comes with a heavy stain. And, as with all things, there's always exceptions, things I don't know about, so don't take what all I've told you as word of law."

[ATE: Master and Apprentice]
[Louis : Shipwreck Cove : Secluded Balcony]

"Harmony..." Louis said slowly, letting the word sit on his tongue as if tasting its meaning, "I don't know if the power I offer can grant you harmony by itself, but I promise power to seek and find an answer for yourself."

Louis waved his hand in a circular motion, "Moving along, first we need to see this potential for ourselves. We'll start by trying to recall any memories that stir up the darkness inside you. But before that..."

Footsteps echoed quickly as Louis closed the short distance between the boys. Grabbing his arm, Louis pulled Anthony close and slammed an open palm into his chest. Then, carefully, Louis set Anthony down on his knees as he'd likely find it difficult and rather dangerous to stand. Louis stood over him and sighed a small breath of relief, "The feeling you're experiencing is a violent invasion of my darkness weaving its way through your paths or roads of darkness as I would like to call them."

Louis' words would sound faded, distorted, and far away and the poison-like effects spread, "While this is uncomfortable, it will help you focus. While your darkness both exists in you on a physical or magical level, it also exists on an emotional or mental level. The physical discomfort you experience now as my darkness conflicts with yours, can be used to find where your strongest darkness lies in your mind and heart. Knowing this will make it far easier to draw out darkness and learn to harness it as you see fit. Take deep breaths, try to remain calm, and try to focus inward where the pain is at its greatest, from there, follow where your heart leads and you will find your center of darkness, where your greatest potential lies."

{ ATE : Feeling Out the Dark Pockets : 8 }
{ Noelle : Red Rose : Training Chamber }

Noelle affirmed her understanding with a small, relaxed, "Okay,"

For another time the small blonde continued meditating, trying to become more and more accustomed to feeling out the balances in the room around her. The sooner she became proficient the better. She was eager out of concern for the others--any of them could be in danger of making a mistake. It wasn't that she wanted to sneak and spy and rat any of them out to Riku. It was that he was possibly the most experienced person with Darkness that had a true concern for their best interests. She wasn't sure she could say that about anyone else. Being mislead was easy, as she had already found out. Every word of what she told Riku earlier was true--before the Underworld incident she really hadn't thought herself capable of what she had done, and plotted against the very people who knew what she was going through because they were all going through it themselves. Each of them was their own worst enemy.

Riku was certainly right about things being fuzzy, but gradually some clarity was coming, even if not nearly as much as using her own eyes. Noelle continued to challenge herself, switching between detecting the darkness within herself, letting it slink back to its corner, pulling it back up, and exploring the balance in Riku and the surrounding room. The whole time she felt a little like she was a lion tamer--able to get the cat to do tricks but not sure if or when it would remember the true pecking order and go for the throat. Suddenly, a thought came to mind as she reviewed what Riku had told her about how her senses could be mislead.

"What about illusions?" She began curiously, "I mean . . . illusions trick the five senses, right? What about perception of darkness? Like . . . if the illusion is that you are in a room, or are confronted by enemies that aren't there, would the illusionistic room or people have a perceivable balance, or would I just see what's real?"
