@pirhan: did you buy it or just look at it?

@ninjaboy1989: I'm very interested in how well the upside down planter method works, please keep us updated on if it grows as well or better than a regularly planted tomato.

Today i accomplished nothing other than working a ridiculous shift. We cleaned out the backroom again and had to deal with a big mess of pallets. Mostly the heavy duty plastic ones though so they have to go back to the warehouse so the store get's its deposit back. Its awesome we've got about 30 broken/partially disassembled pallets and store skids laying around behind the store.

Found out that the other store owned by the company might be closing due to a super wal-mart opening up soon. I figure if the store closes i might be very intrigued in purchasing mass quantities of dried and canned goods at 75% off. As well as the giant heavy duty equipment in the deli and bakery.
12qt stand mixer...must have.

@ Teh__Plague---Must be time to open a bakery! or at least check into some catering.........the mixer is good, but the ovens are terribly expensive, I'd try hardest for those.

A kitchen that is commercial quality doesn't really take much space. Years ago, I worked at a deli that also catered everything you can imagine, and it all came out of a 10 x 15 kitchen! We just had a path down the center of the room, with 3 sides packed with all the appliances. (All the employees got to be very close, as you can imagine!) There were times when there were 7 of us all working back there, doing different things. It was hard work, but great fun! I've wanted a little place like that ever since.

Knives are a niche market. All God's children gotta eat!

I cleaned my car, went grocery shopping, made pumpkin puree for my cat, and made chocolate chip bran flax muffins.

My car needs a doin' too. >_>

And my cats ADORE pumpkin and chicken. It's their favourite canned treat. Who knew.

Easy day today. NO driving, NO painting, NO major anything! Just popped a roast in the oven and crocheted. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

@sunsetsmile: I'm a horrible baker, my sister (darkness_calling) does all the baking, anything on the stovetop or the grill, or any butchering that needs to be done i handle. I'm just hoping that i find out whats going on with that store sooner rather than later.

@pirhan: That is awesome, that is a very gorgeous table.

Yesterday i went out to the nature center at about 7-8pm and took a hike with some friends, followed by hitting the bar to enjoy some socializing. Monday night i went out and bought some new arrows for target practice and possibly hunting. I haven't shot a bow in years so i think its time to start practicing again. Not shooting a bow this time, but a slingshot modified to shoot arrows.

We have a critter or critters living in our attic, lovingly named Stuart and Alvin. They're really loud. And they creep me out when I'm home alone. (Over active imagination FTW.)

So we got a trap.

A *live* trap.

Instructions on back of trap:
  • Slide open and place bait inside.
  • Replace lid.
  • Dispose of trap and mice.

... whut?

Wooot for generic vague instructions.

Oh, there were pictures too. The last picture was a hand throwing the trap AND mouse in the garbage. Why would a *LIVE* trap tell you to throw the mouse out in the garbage? How horrible would it be to die like that? My boyfriend said they also had live traps where you could put sticky paper in them. It's so so so horrible.

In less sad news: Value Village finds!

I found in that book that moles don't like olive oil. So if you have a mole problem, soak a rag in olive oil and put it in it's hole. Better than gas. I also love finding vintage sewing patterns.

A bowl for my air plants! <3

Edit:

I love my job because I barely talk to anyone other than my co-workers. It's great. It's great because there are a lot more weirdos that shop at a nursery than, let's say, call to get hotels booked.

Guy walks in. Starts talking to me about this and that and winterizing his garden. He mentions his wife cut back a plant. He says it was in bloom and was tall and was all nice and green. I say, "oh, good sir, how come your wife cut the plant back?" He replies: "because we were going to get frost that night."

Thinking about buying the entire anthology of Backwoods home magazine. I've read a few articles here and there and i like some of the articles on their website...but 280 is a lot of cash considering how much i already spend on books and reading materials. I'm wondering do any of you read some of the publications like Countryside, or Hobby Farms? things of that nature at all. I'm looking for more things to read.

I need to cut my hair again tonight its getting long. I figure that by cutting my hair myself for the last year and a half i've saved roughly 500 dollars. (i despise paying for haircuts because i just buzz it all down to 1/4inch or 1/2 inch and leave my beard and sideburns alone)
Anyways Fish is being baked, potato's are being fried, cold drinks are waiting. What a great fall day despite the rain.

I love the Hobby Farms magazines. Have you seen "Living the Country Life" on RFDTV? They have a website, www.livingthecountrylife.com with interesting stuff. I was watching one night when there was a little feature on some people with a small acreage who kept a wide variety of "hobby" type livestock, and actually saw a camel jump for joy at the delivery of a big round bale of hay! It was great! I have boxes of Mother Earth News magazines going back to the '70's, so I know what you mean about reading.......

I cut everyone's hair here for years. There's just no telling how much money was saved in 30 years. The second son decided he wanted to go to the barber once, saved his money, and walked to the barbershop after school----only to ask me to fix his haircut when he got home. I finally told them all that I had cut enough hair for "thank you." They do still con me into a cut sometimes, though, and highlights for the girls.

Sorry I missed supper. That sounds really good!

Sears.com click click click! (Seriously, you won't be disappoint.)

In other news: I'm trying to make a microwave heat bag. I have one that's filled with corn. I also have one with flax. The corn one is best because it gets hotter and stays hotter longer. However, no matter what I try with my own, I end up with a fire in my microwave. I am not kidding.

microwave heatbag

Since my bag is made from corn because I can feel it and it was on the label, I went and bought feed corn. It pops.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Went to see a movie with friends, worked, dealing with drama...sort of. Yay Halloween though.
My hard cider is a little more...hard than cider. Very little apple cider taste left with a very strong hit of alcohol. My friends made a batch as well but they didn't ferment it as long and they didn't add sugar or anything to help the yeast out so they got a very nice appley sort of carbonated wine thing going on.
@pirhan: Zombie sears page was awesome lol.

@sunsetsmile: I don't get RFDTV and unfortunately it would cost me another 10 bucks a month to get it with my cable package. But i do know of the channel. I have 2 boxes of Countryside, maybe 10 issues of Hobby farms, and my grandmother has a big box of Mother earth news mag's that i've read through. On top of that i've got maybe...800 bucks worth of fiction and non fiction books that i read voraciously.

@ Pirhan: try rice, and be sure to put a small cup of water in the microwave, too.

@ Teh-Plague: sounds like you've got applejack! almost apple brandy, or more like moonshine. From what I have heard, it will "clean your clock." Be careful! wink

Love the books. My sister and I swear we're going to build a library someday. Was it Plato who said, "If you have a library and a garden, you have everything you need."?? Whoever it was, I almost agree with them.

I noticed today that the old Volvo has almost 250,000 miles on it. It just started dying, whenever, so it went to the shop. The mechanic found that the original solenoid in the fuel pump (assembly?) had come unsoldered, so he removed it, cleaned and fluxed it, heated it--and the welds went back together! Gotta love those old mechanics, and those Volvos. heart

My hubby and I made heat bags with cracked corn and it worked well. I didn't think of trying rice, but I think I will give that a spin myself! For an added treat, add dried lavender flowers too. It smells so good and lavender is healthy as well.

We have Value World, which I think is similar to Value Village. I got two pairs of jeans for my daughter for about $5, and all I had to do was hem up the bottoms today. I love my sewing machine!
