Natalya 'Talya' Stepanovich Patrovna
Unsorted │ First Year │ Eleven Years Old │ Single

Talya was trying as hard as she could to take in all the sights and sounds of her experiences. After hearing about and seeing the pictures of Hesperia that her cousin brought with him to Russia, meeting her, and seeing those fangs was a treat. While she had no compunctions about asking how she injured himself, she felt it rude to ask about the fangs. However, shortly after the train pulled out of the station, she at loose ends, as both Hesperia and Kas were needed elsewhere, as they were Prefects and there was a meeting they were required to attend in the Prefect’s Compartment. Talya had a compartment to herself, a book to read and a large Moscow Watchdog to keep her company, along with her big Russian Blue who was content to curl up on her chest and purr contentedly.

It was already dark when the train pulled into Hogsmeade Station, and Talya needed only to don her cloak and hat to be ready to depart. She slid her school bag over one shoulder and collected Medved’s leash, clipping it to her waist, and Serebro was set upon his usual perch upon her shoulder. As she was about to leave the compartment, Kasamir appeared and he escourted her from the train. When they reached the place where the incoming First Years were to meet before going on, Kasamir took back Medved’s leash, and put Serebro back in his carrier so he could be taken care of by the House Elves, and he reminded her that she had an even chance she would be Sorted into a House where she had a relative, and if she were selected for Slytherin she was to find him and Hes at the Slytherin Table. She was a bit uncomfortable being led towards a forest, having gotten lost in one only a few months ago, however there were other kids roughly her age also being gathered.

The hike through the woods was rather brief, and it wasn’t nearly as scary as the forest behind the Patrovna estate, as it wasn’t nearly so deep nor dense. The hike ended at a pebble-strewn beach where there were several boats, and Talya immediately selected one to board and collected the lantern therein. There was one girl who practically had to be carried into a boat, and Talya offered to keep her company on the journey across the water.

Talya was told there were merfolk and a kraken in the lake, and she was rather curious if they’d see any sign of them or any other denizens of these waters. While she never spotted so much as a fin or a tentacle, seeing the castle all lit up at night made up for it, and fired the neophyte witch’s imagination like nothing else that she’d experienced all day. Traveling across the water, the little First Year was imagining what the rest of her night would entail.

Upon reaching the Great Hall, Talya looked around at the rows of students in their robes, the candles hovering above them, and the magnificent ceiling showing the sea of stars above them. However, when the Sorting ceremony began, there was no torch-lit processions into the forest, no rings of standing stones, nor any blood rites. As she watched it was simply a matter of going to the front of the hall when one’s name was called, and having a hat placed upon one’s head. Granted, it was a talking hat, but that was it; nobody was even called upon to state their lineage, and she was fairly certain at this point nobody would be passing chalices of mulled wine around either.

When her name was finally called, Talya walked purposefully to the front of the Great Hall. When the Sorting Hat was settled upon the bridge of her nose, she directed her thoughts towards the magical construct. ‘I’m guessing you don’t need me to recite my magical parentage, which is probably a good thing. Um, Cousin Kasamir is in Slytherin, and Cousin Alynn is in Gryffindor, but you know that already, right? My older brother, Kusma, is in Punainen, but most importantly, my older sister Raisa is in Keltainen, and I’m very much like her. Wherever I go, I promise to work hard and not bring disgrace upon my Housemates. Wow. So how does this all work?’

Personality:

■ Patient: I know anything worth doing is worth doing right, and taking the time to make it so
■ Dreamer: Oh, I love dreaming about doing things, and how to make things nicer for my friends and my family. Mom tells me that I ‘have my head in the clouds’, and maybe that’s true, but there’s nothing wrong with asking ‘what if?’
■ Mystical:I've had some very vivid dreams of being in other times and places. Once I had a dream of riding across the Caucuses with a group of other riders, and it felt so real that I wasn't sure afterwards if it was really a dream or actual memory.
■ Loyal: I love my friends and cherish my family, and hope they give me the same in return.
■ Practical: Dreams are cool, but without a way to make them happen, they’re just dreams. Now, if I can just figure out a way to do it, then I’m good to go. I am a planner, and I have the confidence in my plans to carry them out.
■ Will: I’m stronger than I look, not physically maybe, but I won’t yield under pressure.
■ Focused: I’m not afraid to get into a project, and if it means an all-nighter, then so be it. Nothing worth having comes easily
■ Energetic: I can just keep going like a certain overused pink rabbit icon. Dad says I'm vivacious, and some of my friends call me 'exhausting'. If I am doing something I really care about, then look for me to keep at it until its done, or I am.

Likes:

■ Wandering in the forest, collecting flowers
■ Cooking for my friends
■ Nice, long soaks in the tub
■ Soft, pretty clothes
■ Rugelach and my mom’s butterscotch fudge
■ Horses

Dislikes:

■ Crowds and loud people in general
■ Wolves
■ Really spicy food
■ Gossip and drama, it’s all hot air
■ People who lie to me, even if it's to spare my feelings, and empty platitudes
■ Worse, people telling me I can't do something because I'm not old enough, or tall enough or not experienced enough.

Hobbies:
■ Collecting flowers and gardening
■ Drawing and painting
■ Writing
■ Equestrian events, including Dressage, and I've been pushing to do Cross-Country

Strengths:
■ My ability to focus upon a particular project
■ Friends forever
■ Confidence in my own abilities and my ability to plan

Weaknesses:

■ You know that focus I mentioned earlier? Yeah, the downside is it's hard to get me to shift focus
■ I also have issues trying to see things from others’ point of view. I’ll try to understand, but give me time
■ I'm always comparing myself to my older sister, Reina, and trying to measure up to her example. She's my hero, and I look up to her.

Fears:

■ Wolves
■ That I'll never be seen as being able to do and be all the things my sister Reina can and is, and my parents will think they failed in me.
