Hit or Miss:
Otto flinched at the sudden yelling, his gaze focusing on the ground as Julie and Caelius argued. Their conversation was unsettling. Otto wasn't certain what to make of it at all.
So what sent bodies there?
Otto soon was rattled from what little thought processes he had as the ground beneath him shook...
As spines of bone emerged from the ground, Otto rolled off to the side to avoid them, staring in disbelief as something moved through the sand. As the monster surfaced, Otto's mouth gaped open. What on God's green Earth was that!?
Icy blue eyes widened at the form, the teen moving the mask from his face to get a better look.
He promptly slipped it back on.
A monster?!

Jerry had been happy to wobble his way back to the camp with the half-corpse hugged to his chest like firewood, dumping the dismembered legs down with the properly-relocated bodies. Ryan's concern for his sanity went unnoticed, and it seemed like he was going to float his way through the rest of the mission if it hadn't been for the rumbling roar that made him blink.
Sounds like that didn't belong in his happy-place. Finally, he registered the dim voice of Roar he had been blocking out- GET DOWN YOU MORON! but it was too late-
The spines ripped through the ground, slashing into his legs but thank Fear Shields it was just enough to snap him back to the here-and-now and also throw him onto his back.
"... Ah..." He blinked behind his mask, blearily glancing around in confusion as to what had just happened. "Er... Ryan?" He managed, hoping the sting was just his partner playing some trick on him to get his attention.
Apparently it wasn't.
HP: 30

"What did I say?" His weapon was in hand as soon as the sand began to slide. Apparently there was a certain level of paranoia and being on edge after their last mission. Perhaps that was why there had been so many fights this week.
Bix held Mina tightly in his hand but the sand slid more and shifted and spikes rose up around him from whatever this creature was. Bix was knocked easily to the side but he'd been hit. His FEAR shield held but he'd hit the ground on his back.
The dazed hunter tried to scramble to his feet but the sand was too difficult when your head was spinning.

For a few moments Gale just stared at the Bix's back, slightly in shock at the wave of sudden anger and fierceness the other had. Normally the albino was....well, ridiculous and slightly goofy, but this side of him was similar to the side he'd seen during the mission with the pendant. Not quite to that level, no, but it still took Gale aback.
His chest was still heaving, anger pumping through his veins, but Bix had turned back around and was looking at him with a completely serious expression - an almost cold one.
"....you don't understand," said Gale, in a tight voice. "You...don't.."
His movements were stiff and jerky. He wanted to scream.
"I've been here bef - "
But he never got a chance to finish the sentence.

Well, that answered that question.
The sand shifted, and B0nez was the only thing standing between Harrison and boney impalement. Harrison covered his mouth. Figures. Figures they'd start clean up before actually dealing with what was making the mess.
I've got it, B0nez said. Now what are we supposed to be hitting?
Hell if I know. Heat. Skeleton things. Guess we made it to the lava level.

[[Damage roll]] Aleister sighed and shook his head, he hated those movies everyone seemed to love with the horror and all that.... However, when Cass offered to help he seemed to be taken from his mood, " Thanks... I'll probably need it. Since I'm not really good with bleach I'd probably ruin the coat." The bickering between the moon hunter and Caelius seemed to be a little... much he had to agree with the moon hunter on this one but no sooner had Caelius said something was out there and Cass mentioned he needed his weapon the ground shook. " Oh Sweet Molasses!" He had to keep from actually screaming in terror but he still shouted.... He got smacked by one of the spines as he tried to dodge only to end up sliding to a stop on his tip toes and feeling something having got his back. " If you consider getting caught in the back okay.... then yeah." Oh that hurt, he had a feeling there was going to be more than just a few small stains to take out. HP: 40 - 10 = 30

"Yeah," Madison said, shuffling forward and upward once more. The return trek seemed to take forever, their burden slipping; Madison had to stop to readjust her grip a few times. She'd have to do laundry again. All the laundry... She felt numb by the time they dropped off the... thing. Body, she let herself think finally, and shuddered as she pulled the zipper upwards to at last hide it. Though her hands, her legs, her everything were just... oh god. "L-let's go get cleaned up," she managed... .... just before everything went to hell. Madison ducked and tried to dive out of the way. "Watch out!" she shrieked at Sherry, just before a sharp spine slashed upwards, sending a cascade of sand spraying over her and a jolt of pain through her leg. She crumpled into the sand, now coated in granules that had stuck to the blood and gunk already on her skin. Why is it here?! Kouki bellowed in impotent rage. HP: 30/40 Status: Disabled!

Harrison had a sharp eye, there wasn't the feeling of cold, hardened steel or solid wood when they began to wade through the broken and battered bodies. while sight was temporarily inhibited by the mask and its technology, it was safe for Leon to assume they weren't armed. "Yeah, a large amount of bodies in the desert like this, didn't seem natural." the brunette boxer agreed with Harrison's train of thought, it was just plain unusual. Maybe it was from another training session that the new recruits came from? He mused to himself. It would make sense, seeing as how they just showed up and suddenly your out here collecting someone's junk in their trunk. Nid always had a way with words. Before the life hunter could continue with the analysis, the chatter over the communication line became more heated as he cupped a hand over the receiver piece and listen in to the not so private conversation that leaked through. and felt the low roar shake from below and rocked the sturdy fighter to his knees and dropped the recently bagged up remains from the table as something sharp sliced into his side, sharp and unrelenting that made the athlete grunt in pain and begin the process of clotting the wound with pressure from his palm. Sadly, the answer to what caused this came to them from the depths, it was a pain to be right about some things. Literally. "Holy crap, what the hell was that?"HP: 40 30Status: Stunned due to emergency first aid to clot a wound, cannot participate in the fight yet.

 HP: 40 Target: Boss Damage: 2 Charge: 1/3 Otto shook away his stupor and summoned his Boomerang. There was no way he was going to go near that disgusting monster thing! So rather than fight using his weapon like a club, he decided to make use of it's long range capabilities. Otto gave himself a running start, stopping abruptly as he releasing his weapon, sending the massive boomerang flying through the air, nicking the monster in the spine, and coming flying back to it's master. Otto caught it by the handle and skidded backward from the force.

It was back - wasn't it?
Gale stared at the rotting flesh of the creature, his eyes wide. He didn't know if that was the same thing that had killed Ben, but if it wasn't, then it sure as hell did a good imitation of it.
There was a flash of bright white light as the ring on Gale's hand glowed, then disappeared entirely. A long, rune-engraved sniper rifle appeared in his bare hands, the gloves long discarded.

"H-Hey Marcus? What the hell is that? Ne-never seen anything like it," Deryk stammered out. Cautiously, he moved his mask to try and get a better look. He probably shouldn't have done that, for now he could see its rotted flesh and bones sticking out all over the place.
Not helpful. He had no fire right now. Did any of them have a flamethrower? It didn't look like it. Not to mention it sounded like a bad idea to have that thing suddenly ON FIRE while attacking everyone. Frozen in spot for a moment, he just quickly called out Tooley before scrambling to his feet. He saw Gale attack. Right. They had to kill this thing. Somehow. Before it ate them all.
He didn't want to be one of those bodies. Letting out a cry, he ran forth and stabbed at the creature. Deryk didn't really like having to be so damn close to the thing.

The body they carried went into one of the black bags, joining the rows upon rows of body bags that had already been sitting in the tent previously. Eva grit her teeth at the sight but she said nothing--what was there to say?--but she mulled over the muttering that she had heard over the headset from Julie's muttering. What was this about a truce?
She didn't mull over it for long. As soon as they were given permission to clean themselves off, Eva went to retrieve some water bottles, grabbing one for Davey as well if he wanted to get that...stuff off of his hands. However, as she was about to head back over to him, there was a sharp shriek from the headset.
"What in the--!?" She cringed in shock, but then there was Chara's voice in her head, urging her to hush and listen. So, Eva did exactly that, trying to focus on the conversation they were hearing. The words sent chills down her spine. Over two-hundred bodies, and apparently the rate was still going up. Just what on earth was going on here?
No time to think too hard about this. One minute she was listening in on the conversation, and the next, there was a roar. When she noticed that the sand was shifting beneath her feet, she tried to get out of the way, but she was too slow--the spine suddenly jutted out from the sand, catching her in the leg and sending her falling to the ground. While she was thankful for the fear shield since it was probably what saved her leg from being badly injured, it still hurt.
"Crap! What...what is that thing?!" Whatever it was, it was clear that laying around wouldn't do her any good. She pushed herself into a sitting position and tried--but was failing--to get scramble back to her feet.

"Ah... Well, that sounds much more interesting than my story," She replied with a wave of her hand, before laughing at his comment, pushing the flap of the tent aside as she exited, "You sure you have no odd fetishes? Sounds like a fetish to me, Dakota. I'm hurt that you are lying to me on our first not-date... Yet here you are, talking about true romance."
Before she could go on, however, what sounded like Julie and Caelius' conversing over the headset made her pause - and then the monster that appeared caused her to freeze up in surprise before she quickly grabbed the necklace - her desummoned weapon - off from around her neck.
"DAMNIT," She cursed as the spines of the monster tore through them, sending her falling to the ground.
'I KNOW.'

It was done. Sherry didn't watch as Madison zipped up the bag, but she heard it. Finished. She finally allowed herself that sigh of relief. She turned, wanting to get cleaned off as soon as possible. It could have been worse, she told herself, remembering that room. Once she was clean, she could forget about this. Her headset crackled again. Voices came through, though Sherry couldn't quite understand what they were talking about. Just what- "Watch out!" Madison's reached her ears, and Sherry started to turn. Her brain registered pain in one of her legs, as well as the sight of dark spines shifting through the sand. She fell, hitting the sand hard. Armagnac was clearly pleased by this turn of events. Sherry didn't know how to take that. She was vaguely aware that Madison had fallen to the ground nearby. "Madison! Are you ok? Just what, what is this thing?" HP: 30/40 Status: Disabled for the round
