I know what you mean about the in-between seasons. Start the day in layers and peel as the day goes on----we topped out at 84 and should be almost 90 today. How nice that your sister will do that for you! It's not much fun to sew wool when it's hot, either.

Did your feet stay dry, Ta Lu?

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do (for a living?) Teh_plague?

@ Ta Lu - Depending, you could try melting the rubber to seal the hole.

And I really want cider and pie. Oh dear. BUT TOMORROW IS THANKSGIVING AND I WILL BE HAVING TURKEY TURKEY TURKEY. (16 pounds between two people OMG I wub it.)

And I got these for free off of Craigslist. >:3

YES! my foot did stay dry. Along the way the boots got another tear but oh well! The marsh was beautiful! Its currently under going a restoration project and their biggest problem right now are the resident geese because they keep pulling plants and roots up it's mid tide, but otherwise going great! Now...they only hope they can continue the restoration where there are bigger problems around the area. >.>

Piran- That is an idea I did not think about. We would have to do that outside though. <.<

Unfortunately I'm currently employed as a part time shelf stocker at a local grocery store, I could deal with it a lot better when it was full time though because the paychecks at least covered all the bills. When i'm not working there i'm fixing a car or something around the house, and making knives for myself and friends in order to improve my skills and one day turn it into a full time job. At that point i'm out of this city and moving to an awesome secluded country area about 3 hours away from all the big city's in my state.

Beautiful furniture you got ahold of.

@Ta-lu: Take a piece of thick plastic like a plastic tarp or shower curtain liner and cut 2 pieces that are big enough to cover the hole and have some leftover, get some epoxy or gorilla glue or what have you and smear it on one side of each piece of plastic and then place one on the inside of the rubber boot and one on the outside. That way water and stuff can't work its way in from either side and force your glue off. Should hold indefinitely lol.

@ Ta Lu - Glad to hear your foot stayed dry! Was it a trip through high school or a college course? Sounds terribly exciting, I'm very envious. :3

@ Teh_plague - Cool! You seem to be a lot more efficient with your time than I. You seem to keep really busy. I take on lots of jobs, but the draw of sitting mindlessly in front of the computer takes over too easily. x_x Do you think you'll sell your creations on Etsy?

Thank you. I love second hand stuff. Especially rough around the edge sorta stuff that can be fixed up nicely. My boyfriend likes new stuff, so sometimes it's a bit of a struggle. I just have to keep reminding him that getting it free/cheap and doing a bit of work is better then the price tag at a high end retro/mod/vintage furniture store. (He's okay with second hand furniture as long as someone else did the work. Weirdo!)

Also forgot that my boss gave me one of the watering cans from work. It's old and too small to be of use, and so she let me have it. It's great because it's the perfect size and the spout is angled just right so I don't get dirt washed all over the place. I was so excited I carried it around for the rest of the day. My boss knows thinks I'm nuts.

Its not a matter of efficiency its lack of sleep lol. I only work second shift and then i can't get to sleep until around 4am so i spend 10pm-4am designing knives and reading up on things and then fall asleep till 10am-noonish wake-up and either get ready to go to work or fix something or cook something or head out to the garage to grind out a new knife.
Once i feel like my skills are a bit better i will probably be selling on etsy and a website called bladeforums. Though i don't know how well custom high end knives sell on etsy (my knives are not artistic in anyway they are very heavy duty user tools)

Your furniture talk reminds me that i need to strip my coffee table down to bare wood and attatch a new top on top of the old one to add some stability and heft to it and then i need to coat it in chalkboard paint so i can stop having to repaint over it after i draw all over it.

Pirhan, I'm speechless at the free teak furniture!!!!! Any makers' marks anywhere?

Ta Lu, glad you were dry! They'll have their hands full with those geese......Teh__Plague is right about Gorilla Glue, it's great stuff.

Teh__Plague, can't you take those knives to, well, here it would be gun show and sales, don't know what there is where you are. I know hunters would like them, and re-enactors, and survivalists, and all those types. (You know, maybe you should just sell PIE.....!)
PostPosted: Mon Oct 11, 2010 10:18 am

@sunsetsmile: Yes i can i just forgot to mention the gun shows and the annual knife show in my state. I'm just tweaking my skills bit by bit because i don't want to be known as someone who sells a knife that fails on someone when they needed it most. So when their as good as i can possibly make them then i'll be satisfied enough to sell em.
The pie is not for sale...its for my tummy. In all seriousness though if i weren't dead set on the being a knife maker I imagine i could be quite happy working in a bakery.

Sidenote: today's accomplishments include being awake before 11am. Trying to slowly work my way off of my 2nd/3rd shift lifestyle so that i can spend more time in the garage on my day's off of work.

Teh_plague - When I was a youngin' (lololol) I would stay up late at night. I always had the best inspirations after midnight. Please keep us updated with your skills - pictures are always welcomed. <3

sunset - I know! My other half "kinda sorta" likes them. They're going to look good once refinished. They have legs (like the nightstand) so they don't sit right on the ground. I prefer that.

I will be looking at a teak table with four chairs tomorrow. Unfortunately it's not free. We've never really had a "real" dining table, so with the house on the market, we're looking harder for something. (The lonely, chairless Ikea table looks so silly.)

Lately I've been using our kitchen olive oil for after shower moisturizer. I have to say, it's nice. It doesn't feel icky and I like how it washes off afterwards. When I wash off my skin cream, it feels like my face has been stripped. I had looked up my cream on Good Guide and wasn't as pleased with the rating.

I also caved into marketing mindset and bought a "specialized" lightbulb for my plants. I also bought some coir and will be making my own soil in the next few days. We'll see how that goes.

@pirhan
It's a college laboratory coarse. It's called "Aquatic Restoration" We're working on getting oysters back into Jamaica Bay Long Island. There use to be a huge bed there but now there's NOTHING! ^^ and it's strange since they grow so well there in cages but just won't form beds like they use to, so we're looking into water quality, oyster feeding and respiration and a nutrition of the phytoplankton.

Today...
I played Humans Vs Zombies.
Human mission success!! whee!!!

Oh and started the first run of our Nutrient-Phytoplankton experiment.

Nice! I saved seeds from the roma tomato I purchased this year. Are you going to wait until spring or try indoor planting?

@ sunsetsmile - xD Monday was Thanksgiving. Yes - there was A LOT of turkey. 16 pounds between the two of us. Free range of course. Delicious.

@ Ta Lu - Neat! I know nothing of oysters, so you'll have to keep us updated and informed.

Yesterday we looked at the table I saw online.

Today we found a vole in our recycle bin. It must of been on the shelf and had fallen in. You touched it and it squealed. Very loud and very funny. *poke poke*

We also had two house viewings today and another one tomorrow. The one viewing today was with the realtor that we purchased our house from. I hope he was impressed with the changes!
