"I've explained that to you about six times, Evermore, do you ever listen?" Vanessa said, hopping up next to the girl. "... and I'd thank you not to go taking pages from my sketchbook. It's a Symbolic representation of the future, in any case. I do Literal drawings too... but this is definitely Symbolic."

He scoffed and crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow at the picture. "What about it? Evermore, open your eyes and listen to the damn girl. Does this picture look in every essence literal to you? Are you that damn blind? Did I misjudge you?"
After all, Ares was familiar with the powers of prophets--or, in this case, prophetesses. They could predict the future, yes, but it was always so foggy, so vague, and generally extremely symbolic. Hell, he was almost surprised that each person had even been represented by their actual appearances rather than, say, fruits or animals! This prophetess was a strong one...

Ever looked at the picture and then from Ares to Vanessa. She didn't know what to say, so she addressed the first thing that she could.
"Vanessa, this is just a copy from your sketchbook. I would never steal from you. I know how important art is."
She was started to lose her justification for being angry. She didn't necessarily like being angry, but there was a feeling inside of her that she just didn't like when she thought of Ares and Aphrodite. To her, there was a gut feeling saying that something was still going on between the two. Of course, she was quite young. Maybe her gut feeling was completely wrong.
She looked up at Ares with a desperate look in her eyes, though she didn't realize it. She was getting so emotionally frustrated.
"But you made a deal with her... You made a deal..."
She sighed and answered her own damn question as she looked at the ground and played with the edges of the paper she had conjured.
"But you did it to try and help me... It didn't work and Aphrodite's more involved now than ever, but that's not directly your fault..."

"Evermore..." Ares sighed and rubbed a hand down his face. "Must I explain everything to you? I don't want to treat you like a child, but if you continue to act like one..." Damn, she was making him feel old. But, honestly, what did she expect from him? All this was so tiring. He was growing tired of explaining everything so that she could understand that which most others would already have made sense of. It frustrated him, and it was growing old. If she didn't start...
Much as he hated to say it, if she didn't start acting more mature, then he would, quite simply, give up.

Vanessa smiled at Evermore. She seemed to finally be getting it! "The choices of today influence the repercussions of tomorrow," she said wisely. "... and it's good you didn't rifle through it. There's some very important stuff in there, you know. Like a picture of my death... Christ, I can't tell you how many times I've died!" she muttered. She looked at the man in front of her. Had they said 'Aphrodite'?! She was the Goddess of Love and Beauty... that would explain the woman's good looks. Did that make the man in front of her, (and in the picture), her lover Ares? But wait, wouldn't he be with her and not Evermore?
Holy hell, Bai Ching was a complicated place.

Ever sighed herself. She shook her hand slightly and the copy of the drawing disappeared in mist.
She shook her head and crossed her arms over her chest, but not in an aggressive, stubborn manner. It was almost a protective stance, though not against Ares. Against herself.
"I'm not a child... Although, maybe I haven't been alive long enough to constitute being an adult. Maybe being with me would be too taxing and stressful for you, Ares. You've experienced things that I haven't and.."
Her breath caught and she looked down at the ground. Gods, she felt like her insides were being hollowed out.

He sighed once more, rubbing his forehead before stepping forward slightly, once more, and then reached out to pull her face to look at him. "Evermore... Pepper... Calm down. Just..." He'd never been good at emotions. "Just calm down. Think clearly. Don't jump to any conclusions anymore."

'Yeah, right, she thought privately to herself. That was like asking a fish not to swim. Jumping to conclusions seemed to be what Evermore did best. She swayed on her feet, and suddenly became quite pale. She didn't feel so good. Usually, she felt really ill before one of her 'episodes', and the more sick she felt, the worse it was going to be. Right now, on a scale of one to ten (ten being the worst), she was about a three. She prayed it wouldn't get worse.

{{lol! I loved your post, Rrine! biggrin }}
Ever tried to keep her eyes looking down, away from Ares, even when he tilted her face up to look at him. But when he called her 'Pepper', she gave a very soft half-sob and finally turned her eyes up to meet his. Her own eyes were swimming with tears, though she didn't let them fall. She didn't want her tears to influence Ares at all or possibly give him a guilt trip. That wasn't right and that was not how she operated.
"I'd say that I'm sorry, but I can't be sorry for something I did that I thought was right. I can't say sorry for something that I still am afraid of happening. I'm trying to think clearly, I am. But it seems like when I think clearly, I get myself in trouble."

He rolled his eyes good-naturedly at her. "Then, instead of going to this damned party, go fix all that s**t. Clear it up by... Oh, I dunno? Researching?" His tone was somewhat sarcastic now, but it was in an effort to lighten the mood. "That Room would tell you a goldmine or two or seven hundred's worth if you just looked."

'Room?' she wondered, glancing at the man. Her palms we a bit clammy, but they were always that way when she got nervous. At the moment, she was worried. She didn't want to have an attack! Not in front of all these people, and not in front of the people at the party! She quickly say down, her face pale.

{{I want to see what Vanessa's vision is! biggrin I love her drawings!}}
Ever scowled slightly and she was just about to go off the handle again when she bit her tongue and remembered what Ares said. She shouldn't jump to conclusions.
So, she'd ask. She arched an eyebrow slightly and tried to calmly ask Ares what he meant.
"What... what exactly would I research in the Room? I doubt the Room would have answers for me on how not to jump to conclusions and to remain calm. So what am I supposed to research?"

He laughed a bit. "Evermore, don't tell me that there aren't other things you've been wrong about. What do you want to research that might be in the Room?" He shrugged. "The Philosopher's stone? The Relics? Ancient civilizations? The Relics?" He repeated 'relics' on purpose. She really did need to research that, whether she wanted to or not. War was coming, and the Relic of Bai Ching would be needed soon... by many people. And not all of them were what one would consider 'good.'

Ever had heard him put emphasis on 'relics', but she had also heard him say other things. He wasn't telling her that she should ditch the party and go back to work on researching more about the relic in the lake. He was saying that she should research more about things that she might have been incorrect about in the past. He was trying to expand her mind.
Damn but he was so right about her jumping to conclusions. She never realized how badly she did it before now. Wow. Who knew that the God of War would help her in this way?
Ever was teetering on the edge of being very happy, but she wanted to ask one more thing before she did allow herself to become happy just to be disappointed again.
She reached out with one of her hands and grasped on of Ares'. "What if I said I still wanted to go to the party, and what if I said I wanted to go with you? What if I said I wanted to do that today instead of researching anything in the room? Just for tonight. What would you say to that?"

The word 'Relic' bounced around in her skull. She had surpassed 3 on her scale, and was now a high 4 going on five. s**t. 'Calm, calm, CALM!' she commanded herself, but it didn't work like that. She fumbled at the bag at her hip, and took out her tub o' aspirin. She poured five into her hand, and swallowed them, clutching her knees. Her knuckles were white with strain, and her nails dug into her skin.
