Just as a question.....

Me and my brother are on a debate on who would win in a Warhammer 40k battle....His Tau? Or my Ultramarines once I buy them? Who Would Win?

It depends, do you mean a fluff fight or an actual game?

Fluff; the Ultramarines would cush the weak alien filth.

Yea, they should crush the Tau, fluff based. But Dart, he ment in a regular 40k fight.

Its actually a hard to pull off battle. Space marines are a balanced fighting force, that can slightly do better in certain area's then most. For instance, if you want a tau killing SM army, Heavy bolters. 3+ to hit, and 2+ to wound. No armor saves inless they are in cover have a shield, becuase most of their armor is 4+.

But, i dont know, i seem to stomp space marines all the time... Like my 1000pts fight last night. I owned some space marines. But thats me, now, Tau are mainly only good for shooting, so once you get some terminators, or assualt marines in close combat, they can practicaly fight all the way to the other side of the board.

Can you belive, my friend lost 3 terminators out of 6 in the first turn they came out? I blew em up! out of about 20+ shots they would have died eventually...

Thats almost as nice as what makes me take plasma cannons alot. I partialed a whole terminator command squad. I took out all of them save the librarian leading the whole she-bang and he took a wound. so now Plasma cannons=yes in my army.

Tau are the easiest army to beat for me so far. Hardest would have to be the Eldar.

But Tau I don't know who you fight but they just need to get their guys in close combat. I had one tactical 5 man tactical squad get into close combat it destroyed two Crisis suits, one Crisis suit commander and four tau Firewarrior squads of 6 each. It won the game for me. Sergeant had a Plasma Gun Power sword combo with T Honors and Furious charge. Plus his Power weapon was master crafted.

The its players that are not willing to take that advantage and just try to out shoot the tau. But that can be done if you are good enough, who cares if your las cannons is one strength less when you are hitting on a 3+

Honestly that is a rather odd question to ask, or debate...

According to Games Workshop every army should be fair and balanced, and although this doesn't hold completely true, there is never unfairity to such a degree that you could say..."Your not going to win because you are playing Tau with Ultramarines."
It realy depend on your two play styles, tactical skill, and dice roles.

I've got one thats that unbalenced! kroot mercs vs. armored company or vehicle heavy iron warriors! been there done that, blew up 3 leman russes with a master shaper vs. armored company and he killed ~100/126 of my models. Vs. Iron warriors I killed his troops (all 20 of them) and his assult elements before I got blown to bits by his massed fire.

especcially them dice rolls...

Yes, you do tend to notice dice roles more easily when your on the wrong end unfortunately.

And, yes I suppose that there are a few "exceptions" to that of which I said earlier, although your best bet would still not to be to say "This army is going to beat this army." xp

Yea, but Red, come on, we know your going to say "Ohh yea, my Grey knights are going to beat the tau's tail and make them run." But actually, Grey Knights are cool. The models are anyways, i would field em. But to tell you the truth, yesterday, there was a 4 way carnage going on at my game store, and the grey knight player was wiped out on accident... He just happened to get in the way of a Chaos undivided and a eldar player. I got demolished too, but that was becuase i split my force in half... yet another noob mistake that costed me the game. But alot of things in 40k is tactics, and im starting to understand them a bit better.

Hey Guys ! I have finely moved although I can post every now and then via a hotspot in our back yard I can't post to offten, untill our cable gets hooked back up. mrgreen

On the Tau verses UltraMarines topic. If the Tau load out cheesily enough they can put a serious hurting on the Marines, Gun drones although seemingly easy to kill take target priotity in an actual game and you would have to kill them before you get to the crunchys, Unless your playing with tons of tanks in which case target priority isn't an issue. In terms of fluff now the Tau would try to talk to the Marines and the Marines would just go wadeing through an ocean of Tau guts. neutral

We are talking about in game here. In game the Knights are hard to field but if done right they can turn any game into an easy victory. Just because some one who plays Knights lost in a 4 way doesn't mean anything. He might have no idea what to do with Knights tactica, or like you just make one vital error that cost him the game early on.

But Fluff terms anything would send the Tau Packing. Hey 150,000 Guards men and 500 Space Marines almost destroyed their race. If it wasn't for the Nids, they would of finished off the Tau for good. The Tau are the sinister diplomatic types. They will bury you in so much red tape that you have to join their cause.
