Eve had not been alone for long before she received a message in her Inbox. Opening it, she saw that it was from Kaiyaga, who instructed her to head to the guild hall of Caveat where she would discover the results of her examination.

Caveat’s guild hall was situated in a dark corner of the Town of Beginnings, quite removed from the central market and square, the hub of the city. Rather, it was situated between two large towers, and beneath the great wall that formed the border to the town. This location cast a permanent shadow over the building, and created a darkness over everything and everyone around it. Being that the guild held very few members, and was relatively unknown as far as tournaments went, it was not the largest guild hall in the game. In fact, it consisted of only a few extra rooms besides the main room of the guild. Still, despite its smaller size, it held a certain imposing quality to it that made the hairs stand up on Eve’s neck the first time that she had seen it.

Upon walking in, she found the hall abandoned. There was no one to be seen, and no sound save for a single clock which ticked back and forth with a maddening rhythm. There was a slightly sweet smell in the air, though this was weighed down by another odorous fume that was more difficult to place.

She had only been in the guild hall for a little under a minute before she heard a voice from her right. There, leaning against one of the support pillars was a young man. He was tall and lean, with long black hair that was tied into a tight pony tail, though the sides of his bangs were allowed to hang down the side of his face. A single red gem was placed at the center of his forehead, just along the hairline.

A black choker was tied around his neck, and this stood above a sleeveless chainmail and leather shirt that fit tightly around his toned physique. Over this he wore the jacket to a traditional Japanese Kimono, though he wore the right side of it slackened and tucked into his belt, leaving his right arm bare. This jacket was a white fabric with blue trimmings, and a large gold symbol embroidered across the left arm.

About his waist, he wore a collection of several leather belts, and a deep blue hakama that was accented by golden flames that extended up from the bottom of the legs. On his right arm, he wore a long gauntlet. It was composed of two separate parts, the first of which was a white and gold, armored glove, and which extended to his elbow. The second half was composed of a blue ribbed cloth that stretched up the remainder of the arm, coming to a stop where the arm meets the shoulder. This was fastened by two large leather belts

His eyes were a dark gold, and his features were hard and stern. His expression was absent of any possibility of frivolity, and he supported a commanding presence. When he spoke, his tone was low, though not overly deep.

“Eve, it is good that you have come. You have embarked on the journey to advance in Caveat, and so you have taken the test ordained by Master Shiro’s proxy. We do not know who it was, or what tests you have undertaken, and this is how it must remain. Until your relative Apotheosis has been completed, you must keep the workings of this system private.” It struck Eve as curious that he used the pronoun ‘we’ when referring to himself, but she was not left to wonder for long, for in another moment, she heard a second voice, this time from her left.

Here, another man stood. This one was of a slightly more burly build with bright gold eyes, though a similarly serious gaze affixed to his face. Like his counterpart, he had long black hair, though this second figure’s hair appeared to be thicker, and was left unrestrained to flow freely as it pleased. The ends of it stretched to the middle of his back and his bangs hung about his face.
He wore an outfit composed of a white vest with black trimming, a white jacket below that, and white pants with a black belt. He also wore black wristbands and black shoes. His hands were also wrapped in strips of white linen. In comparison to the first man, his outfit was very simple.

His voice was far deeper than the first man’s, and his words echoed throughout the hall as he spoke.

“It is based off of this proxy’s evaluation, as well as the decision of Master Shiro that you have successfully passed the tests. Therefore, you will be promoted to a rank more equivalent of your talents.” At this point, they spoke in unison, each voice carrying out with clarity, melding together, yet still remaining distinct.

“From this point forward, you shall be known as an Enforcer of Caveat, and will be actively assigned to slaughtering the PK’s of this world that would seek to do harm to the defenseless. With this promotion, you are one step closer to becoming one of the Nine Rings of Hell of Caveat.” The first man gave a short bow, crossing his hand over his chest as he did.

“My name is Shugane.” The second man now spoke and gave a quick nod of his head.

“And I am Rishune.” Again, the spoke in unison.

“Together, we are Violence, - the Seventh Ring of Hell of Caveat.”

Eve bowed low.

"Thank you both. I swear I will not fail you or master Shiro. I will fulfill this task to the best of my abilities and bring the corrupt of this word to justice."

Eve's voice was soft and respectful as she spoke but a large smile played across her lips, though it was hidden by her bow.

The two stared at Eve for a long while, neither one saying anything. At length, they shifted slightly and took a step closer to her.

If you have any questions, now would be the time to ask them.” Shugane spoke in a flat tone, betraying no emotion in his voice.

Eve rose slowly, locking eyes with the two men.

"My assignments. Will they be delivered to me by you or through in game mail?"

This time, Rishune stepped forward, looking directly into the young girls eyes.

“You will be given instructions through a variety of channels.” His explanation was sparse, but it was enough for Eve to get the general idea. Caveat operated in a very low profile way. There weren’t even that many players that were aware of the guilds existence. Pker’s, however, were all too familiar with them, and the Nine Rings of Hell that made up the guilds Echelon. It was rumored, among certain circles, that some of the members of Caveat had even once been in some of the top guilds on the server. This included names such as Crestfallen, Cataclysm, and Final Ascent to name a few. These guild were all thought of as some of the strongest players in their own right, and the fact that Caveat had that kind of clout to add to its pedigree made it a group to be wary of.

A brief moment of silence fell over the group before Shugane stepped forward once more.

“If you have no other questions, Master Shiro would like to speak with you. He’s at the Heaven’s Tears waterfall at the south end of Floor 15.” Heaven’s Tear waterfall was a location that very few people were able to reach, on account of the dangerous monsters that guarded the entrance to the cave which lead to the landing of the falls. Additionally, the cave was somewhat difficult to find, and without knowing where to look it was difficult to locate even from the sky. Shiro had taken Eve to this very same location on the day that she had joined Caveat. At that time, he had asked her why she had wanted to join, what she hoped to get out of it, and several other questions regarding the guild. Because of this, it was a matter of some significance to Eve in regards to her relationship with Shiro.

Eve's eyes widened slightly as he heart immediately began to race upon hearing the name.

"He..wants to meet with me? Very well. Thank you both for your time and I look forward to working more with you to achieve Caveat's goals in this world."

The young girl offered another quick bow before turning, her blond hair flying as she did, and hurrying out of the guild stronghold. Once outside she crouched down, delicate white wings appeared on her back and a with a jump upward she shot into the air, causing a small shockwave to emit over the ground from the speed of her ascent.

Eve was a blur as she sped through the air over the town of beginnings, reaching the teleport stone within a few minutes, despite the distance she had to travel. She landed a few steps away, touching down without a sound before making her way softly to the stone and hesitated for only a moment before issuing the command to teleport. A moment later she vanished into a flash of brilliant blue light.

Eve moved quickly through the large field that made up the floor making easy work of the monster's that called it home and reaching the large mountain that held not only the floors labyrinth but the entrance to her destination in under an hour. She quickly wound her way through the mountains maze, dodging as many of the monsters spawning areas as she could. It didn't take her long to reach the caves entrance and, after checking to be sure no one had seen her, ducked into the darkness.

Eve found herself feeling slightly silly as she moved through the thick darkness of the cave. The cave technically wasn't Caveat's property or the property of any other guild or player for that matter but she couldn't help feeling like it belonged to Shiro and the guild. She still remembered the first time she had been to the falls over two tears ago as clearly as if she had been there only yesterday. She had been lost, wandering the world of ALfheim looking for the strongest to fight and taking any and all difficult quests that were posted on the request board. All that had changed when Caveat and Shiro had found her. Suddenly she had a purpose, a goal, and more importantly, someone to fight for.

Eve's cheeks turned bright red as this thought crossed her mind, causing her to trip and stumble. She let out a soft sigh, grateful for the darkness. After almost five minutes of walking in the darkness she noticed a small ray of light. The young girl stopped, letting out a ragged breath as her heart again began to pound. It had been months since she had last been at the falls and even longer since she had seen Shiro. The thought of meeting him again always caused her heart to flutter in her chest and this time was no different. The girl moved her hand quickly, pinching her forefinger and thumb together and swiping down quickly, causing the menu to open. She navigated to her equipment bar and quickly swapped her armor for a delicate dress. She next moved to fix her hair, praying that it would look alright as she was unable to see. Once she had finished Eve let out another tight breath before walking the last few feet into the light.

As she exited she was greeted with blinding sunlight, causing her to squint.

When her vision did clear however she was awestruck by the view. The area that appeared before her was a large, circular canyon with multiple waterfalls crashing over the sides, a cool mist hung in the air and the thunderous roar of the falls mixed with the songs of more birds then she could count. A long stone path lead out onto the land mass beyond the cave entrance that she still stood in. The large outcropping reached halfway into the canyon, ending abruptly in a circular plateau which overlooked the massive lake that covered the ground far below though it was hidden by a thick fog that hung over the lake, endlessly being generated from the water that crashed into it from the falls high above. Small rainbows hung in the air seeming to dance as the mist moved through the area. Beyond the path to either side were vibrant flowers consisting of almost every color in the rainbow. Butterfly's danced on the warm breeze without a care in the world as they flitted from flower to flower.

Eve closed her eyes, taking in the scene and warmth of the sun for a moment, using the serene view to calm her nerves before softly making her way out of the cave entrance and down the stone path. It took only a few seconds of walking before she spotted the tall man dressed in black, standing at the edge of the plateau. She continued to walk until she stood only a few feet away from the man.

Eve bowed low, holding her bow as she spoke.

"Good afternoon master Shiro please forgive me for making you wait so long. I came as soon as I was told you wished to see me."

A small smile played over Shiro’s face, though it was largely unable to be seen by Eve as his back was turned to her. As he spoke, his voice was smooth and rich, with a warmth and caring that caused Eve to melt. There was an underlying tone to it that was difficult to place, but it caused the hairs on the back of her neck to stand on end.

“There’s no reason to apologize, Eve. I was quite enjoying the view while I waited.” He paused for a moment before continuing. “I trust your journey was a safe one?” He remained as he was, looking out of the waterfalls that crashed into the lake below with a thunderous clap.

Eve slowly stood up swallowing slightly as she crossed her hands in front of her, keeping her eyes low.

"Yes sir. Nothing gave me much trouble and I made sure I wasn't followed."

Shiro said nothing in response to Eve’s comment, but instead gave a slow nod. His movements were very methodical and fluid. He remained silent again for a moment before gesturing for Eve to move up and stand next to him. He accompanied this gesture with a small verbal instruction in case she still had her eyes down.

Once she was next to him, he spoke again. His gaze was still fixed over the massive expanse of falling water, and the light that pierced through the clouds seemed to illuminate him, making him almost appear as though he had an ethereal glow.

“You’ve come a long way in your time here, Eve. I’m very proud of the progress that you’ve made.” He turned to look at her slightly, his steely gaze penetrating deep within her. She could feel herself shrinking under his stare, and though it was not an uncomfortable feeling, there was definitely a certain power that Shiro held. “Now that you’ve gained a higher rank in the guild, and now that you’ve come as far as you have, I want to ask you the same questions that I did when I first met you: why did you want to join Caveat, what do you hope to get out of it, and what is your goal?” His tone was serious, though kind, and there was a warmth in his eyes that made Eve feel safe, if not a bit intimidated.

Eve looked up, blushing slightly as she met Shiro's gaze.

"Why I wanted to join was because you all gave me not only a home here but a purpose. You gave me something to fight for when I had nothing. As for what I hoped to gain, well."

Eve fell silent for a long moment before answering.

"I think I already have gained it. I hoped this guild would give me a goal worth fighting for and it has." She said softly.

Eve lowered her eyes, the fading rays of light bathing her and the surrounding area in crimson. The waterfalls turned a deep red orange and the mist far below seemed to glow as though it was on fire. Eve was silent for a long moment before answering Shiro's third and final question. Her tone was confident, but respectful as she spoke.

"My goal is to see both your and the guilds goals become a reality. To eliminate any and all pker's that would dare to harm the defenseless and to make Caveat a name all pker's fear. I want to bring order and peace to this world and punish those that had done wrong."

As she finished, Eve hesitantly glanced back up to meet Shiro's gaze once more, trying to gauge if her answers had been the correct ones.

Eve was met with a pleased and proud smile from Shiro. His eyes seemed to glow in the early evening rays of light, and the mist continued to create the halo around him.

“I’m glad to hear that, Eve.” He turned away from her, once again looking over the vast scene before them. “Do you know why we hunt Pker’s?” His tone was level, suggesting the question was rhetorical. After a brief moments pause, he continued. “It’s because while this is a game, it’s more than just fun. The thoughts, feelings and emotions that we make inside the game carry over to the real world. Likewise, the values and morals that we hold in the game are direct representations of what we believe to be acceptable. You see, those that would willingly kill another in a game are predisposed to believe it’s alright in real life. They simply use the anonymity of the internet, and the low consequences of games in order to act on those impulses. Impulses, however, are like addictions. If you don’t eradicate them, they will continue to grow stronger, and soon simply killing players in a game will not be enough for them anymore. That is when they will act on their impulses in the real world. That is when someone will die.” He paused to allow his message to sink in. “There’s a solution, however. Just like the impulses can be strengthened, they can be discouraged. IF they believe that it’s alright to kill players in the game, and they are in turn killed themselves, they will associate the urge to kill other with the feeling of dying themselves. This will prevent them from desiring to harm others. It won’t be out of conscience or honor, it will be out of a need for self-preservation. Do you understand?” He stood tall and strong, speaking with a powerful, even tone; like a learned scholar instructing a wide eyed student.

Eve looked up, nodding vigorously, her eyes shining and her heart racing.

"Yes. I absolutely do. In a way we are helping not only the victims of pker's but the pkers themselves."

Eve's tone was full of wonder and the slightest hint of excitement.

Shiro nodded, placing a hand on Eve’s shoulder.

“It may seem like this is just a game to the people on the outside, but we are doing real good here. However, I won’t lie to you and say that we are without blemish. You see, we are still taking lives. Even if they are the worthless lives of killers and murderers, we are still killers. We can’t try to hide that fact behind justice, or the good of others. Is that a burden that you are willing and able to bear?” His words carried a surprising weight, and his tone was serious. As Eve stared up at him, he seemed so strong; so solid.

Eve frowned for a moment, glancing down at the ground before looking back up and nodding, speaking softly.

"I know our hands are stained..but to protect the innocent..to give them a chance for happiness against the killers of this world, I have accepted the fact that I am a killer of killers.. and I will accept the punishment that may come with that decision."

Shiro nodded, clearly pleased with Eve’s answer.

“I’m glad to hear that you stand with us.” He placed his hand behind his back and looked out over the large expanse of water beyond them. “Your task is finished for now. You may return to your normal activities. You will receive more orders soon enough.”
