Eve had not been alone for long before she received a message in her Inbox. Opening it, she saw that it was from Kaiyaga, who instructed her to head to the guild hall of Caveat where she would discover the results of her examination.
Caveat’s guild hall was situated in a dark corner of the Town of Beginnings, quite removed from the central market and square, the hub of the city. Rather, it was situated between two large towers, and beneath the great wall that formed the border to the town. This location cast a permanent shadow over the building, and created a darkness over everything and everyone around it. Being that the guild held very few members, and was relatively unknown as far as tournaments went, it was not the largest guild hall in the game. In fact, it consisted of only a few extra rooms besides the main room of the guild. Still, despite its smaller size, it held a certain imposing quality to it that made the hairs stand up on Eve’s neck the first time that she had seen it.
Upon walking in, she found the hall abandoned. There was no one to be seen, and no sound save for a single clock which ticked back and forth with a maddening rhythm. There was a slightly sweet smell in the air, though this was weighed down by another odorous fume that was more difficult to place.
She had only been in the guild hall for a little under a minute before she heard a voice from her right. There, leaning against one of the support pillars was a young man. He was tall and lean, with long black hair that was tied into a tight pony tail, though the sides of his bangs were allowed to hang down the side of his face. A single red gem was placed at the center of his forehead, just along the hairline.
A black choker was tied around his neck, and this stood above a sleeveless chainmail and leather shirt that fit tightly around his toned physique. Over this he wore the jacket to a traditional Japanese Kimono, though he wore the right side of it slackened and tucked into his belt, leaving his right arm bare. This jacket was a white fabric with blue trimmings, and a large gold symbol embroidered across the left arm.
About his waist, he wore a collection of several leather belts, and a deep blue hakama that was accented by golden flames that extended up from the bottom of the legs. On his right arm, he wore a long gauntlet. It was composed of two separate parts, the first of which was a white and gold, armored glove, and which extended to his elbow. The second half was composed of a blue ribbed cloth that stretched up the remainder of the arm, coming to a stop where the arm meets the shoulder. This was fastened by two large leather belts
His eyes were a dark gold, and his features were hard and stern. His expression was absent of any possibility of frivolity, and he supported a commanding presence. When he spoke, his tone was low, though not overly deep.
“Eve, it is good that you have come. You have embarked on the journey to advance in Caveat, and so you have taken the test ordained by Master Shiro’s proxy. We do not know who it was, or what tests you have undertaken, and this is how it must remain. Until your relative Apotheosis has been completed, you must keep the workings of this system private.” It struck Eve as curious that he used the pronoun ‘we’ when referring to himself, but she was not left to wonder for long, for in another moment, she heard a second voice, this time from her left.
Here, another man stood. This one was of a slightly more burly build with bright gold eyes, though a similarly serious gaze affixed to his face. Like his counterpart, he had long black hair, though this second figure’s hair appeared to be thicker, and was left unrestrained to flow freely as it pleased. The ends of it stretched to the middle of his back and his bangs hung about his face.
He wore an outfit composed of a white vest with black trimming, a white jacket below that, and white pants with a black belt. He also wore black wristbands and black shoes. His hands were also wrapped in strips of white linen. In comparison to the first man, his outfit was very simple.
His voice was far deeper than the first man’s, and his words echoed throughout the hall as he spoke.
“It is based off of this proxy’s evaluation, as well as the decision of Master Shiro that you have successfully passed the tests. Therefore, you will be promoted to a rank more equivalent of your talents.” At this point, they spoke in unison, each voice carrying out with clarity, melding together, yet still remaining distinct.
“From this point forward, you shall be known as an Enforcer of Caveat, and will be actively assigned to slaughtering the PK’s of this world that would seek to do harm to the defenseless. With this promotion, you are one step closer to becoming one of the Nine Rings of Hell of Caveat.” The first man gave a short bow, crossing his hand over his chest as he did.
“My name is Shugane.” The second man now spoke and gave a quick nod of his head.
“And I am Rishune.” Again, the spoke in unison.
“Together, we are Violence, - the Seventh Ring of Hell of Caveat.”
