As she 'desired.' Svana's eyes narrowed slightly and her lips pursed in a flat line as she tried to decide whether the young man was mocking her. He promised her something called vodka, which sounded all right to her, as long as it had a good punch to it. She watched him hurry away, thinking about how sweetly that boy would break if she got her hands on him. It was a shame Urt wasn't with her. He was just his type.

The woman, Anna, offered Jet her weapon. "Girl'll cut her own foot off," she muttered with a mild roll of her eyes.

"Only if you're on the winning side," she quipped back to her comment about warfare. Being intimate with both sides of that coin, she could say that the rewards outweighed did, indeed, outweigh the risk on occasion, but defeat could be devastating.

Jet Devereux

Jet felt her cheeks begin to grow hot but she fought it back. She had to work on not being embarrassed; it was all part of the learning curve. "Oh," she said. "Well, I suppose that makes sense." She nibbled more of her bread.

The scimitar was elegant, to her, no matter what Anna said. She smiled and nodded. "It does the job, no doubt" she said. She decided to ignore Svana's comment, but honestly it made her feel a wave of anger.

Jet wanted to prove herself to these women, to shout that she wasn't a child and she would eventually have her own respect. But shouting was childish so she held it in and handed the weapon back to Anna. She turned back to Svana and shrugged. "Do you ever feel guilty? About killing them? I mean... After it's all over."

Kai couldn't help the feeling the familiarity as she walked through the door of the establishment. She couldn't figure out why. Eventually she shook it off as working in a place similar back home. Her green eyes swept over the place seeing various people conversing with others. Nervousness was bubbling inside her. She swiftly made her way to a lone table. She pulled a thin notebook out of her satchel and laid it out before opening it. Notes scribbled in rushed handwriting littered the pages. She let out a sigh as she read them

"I know all of this." she muttered to herself, "But it still doesn't explain why I can't do it."

Mingan
Gold eyed, well built Native American man with long hair pulled back into a tail and dressed in western style attire. Appears to be in early 30s.

Mingan caught the last bit of the elf-woman's comment and barely resisted the urge to spit. The idea of silencing innocents disgusted him. She was clearly battle hardened, bloodied as she was.

As much as he'd like to put and end to that sort of mindset, he had no interest in starting a fight. With her blatant, arrogant disregard for any sort of social nicety, her lust for slaughter, she quite frankly, rubbed him the wrong way.

He settled into his seat and shot the curly haired woman a grin when he noticed her tensing. A bit jumpy, that one. Not that his wolfish glance would put her at ease.

He shrugged and pulled his pouch from his pocket, setting to work on rolling a cigarette. With Battle-Elf and Jumpy Brunette, he sincerely hoped the food left a better taste in his mouth than the current company did.

The girl's pale face gave her away when she blushed. Her expressions were an open book. Her comment touched a deep nerve and she was still hot from battle. Right now, guilt was the furthest thing from her mind. "No," she uttered quietly. "I feel avenged." She wasn't about to explain herself further to the lass. Hopefully her cryptic words sufficed.

Her eyes strayed to the big, dark haired man, catching his expression. She perked a defiant eyebrow, staring him down. Humans, she thought in mild disgust. So short lived, most of them violent in their own right. None of them knew what their ancestors had done to her people. Bitterness seeded deeply. She wanted to cut them as deeply as she had been cut, just as she currently dealt with the dwarves.

Anna Gale

Anna took the weapon back from Jet and placed it back in its familiar place on her hip. She eyeballed Svana, and accepted the fact that Svana would more that likely be able to best her in a fight. That did not excuse the fact that she insulted the poor young girl who seemed eager to fight back against her system. Anyone with that fire in them deserved respect, and any help they could get.

"Even the most clumsy of people can learn to wield a blade, if given proper training. And even defeat in war holds its spoils. Knowledge of the enemy is always valuable," Anna told Svana. With that, she left the table in search of the server. She needed a drink. Anna went through the door that the server had disappeared into just moments before and found him milling about in the shelves.

"Matthias? When you get the chance, do you think you could get me a large glass of sweet red wine?" She asked nicely. Anna could tell he was busy, and that Svana woman could sure ruffle feathers.

Jet Devereux

With Anna gone, Jet felt exposed. She was beginning to dislike Svana, but that only made her want to like her more. She took a long drink from her coffee, savouring the taste. It had been so long she had almost forgotten the taste of it, and she was glad she had something to distract herself. The elf-woman clearly held little respect for her, but that did not mean she had nothing to teach her.

"Vengeance," she repeatedly, simply. That was something she could understand, and it was why she was so desperate to learn as much as she could today. Out in the real world she would need to be able to handle herself better than she was doing now.

"And what good does knowledge do for a dead man?" she shot back shortly. "I imagine it's about as useful as stabbing yourself before the enemy can get close." She let her go, rolling her eyes. The child wanted to give her wisdom on how to conduct her war?

"Vengeance," she repeated evenly for Jet, smiling tersely. "The only better motivator is fear. A heavy mix of the two, and a person could probably accomplish anything."

Svana wasn't done being afraid, although she hid it much better than she used to. She was scared all the time. Scared for her people, scared about their future. They had so few left, such a narrow future. She was terrified that they would be snuffed out of existence, that their futures would be robbed so swiftly from them.

Matthias Holdahl.
| but dat reference, though! |

The bell above the door jingled. Another customer had come in. Matthias finished rifling through the crate of his manager’s select vodkas and tugged out a bottle of Everclear. He had given the order for the steak to the cooks already. It would be another ten minutes or so. That was enough time to get the drinks back out and greet the new customer.

Grabbing several shot glasses, he arranged them all on a wooden tray and put the Everclear on it and the beer and headed back into the main room—or at least tried to. He was waylaid halfway through by the curly-haired woman in the skin-tight suit.

“S-sweet wine?” he repeated, more flabbergasted than anything that she had followed him into the back room. It took him a few seconds to regain his faculties. “Absolutely, ma’am. I’ll see to getting these out, and then I’ll be right back to get your wine. I’ll bring you a variety. I promise we’ll find you something you love.” His smile broke into a grin more faithful to his true nature and he excused himself with another bow at her polite demeanour. That was a nice change. “I’ll be right back!”

Side-stepping her, he pushed the door open with his foot and headed immediately to the table with the first two women. Taking a deep breath, he approached the long-haired brunette elven woman first.

“Here.” He set the shot glasses down and filled the first to the brim with the vodka. “It’s the strongest stuff we have. My manager’s personal favourite. She says anyone who can’t stand the small stuff better be prepared to pound this s**t back by the bottle, or they can get the hell out of her bar.” The swearing was absolutely impolite in the right company, but he doubted this elven woman cared for the intricacies of civil conversation. He decided a bolder route might be more up her alley.

“Of course—” He made eye contact with the bronze-skinned woman only long enough for his smile to take on the slightest teasing edge “—that’s the manager for you. I myself would recommend mixing it with something to lessen the fire, but you’re welcome to the shot if it’s to your taste. You both are, actually,” he said, flashing a gentler smile to the other woman in the dress. “Try it out and let me know. I’ll be back to take any additional orders shortly!”

He straightened up with that and headed over to where the man with the ponytail was standing. “I got a variety here for you. These are on the house till you decide on your favourite.” He set the bottles down on the table next to the man and straightened up with another quick bow. “Your steak will be another ten minutes or so. Let me know if you need anything else, sir!”

Turning back around, he caught sight of the newcomer he heard come in earlier sitting at a table by herself. Another woman, this one considerably less aggressive-looking than the other women at the first table, with a notebook out on the table and a consternated expression on her face. Matthias approached her more gently than he had the others, clearing his throat to announce his presence before speaking.

“Good day to you, miss. Welcome. Can I get you anything to drink for starters?”

Jet Devereux

Jet finished her coffee and then piled more bread into her mouth. It was no longer warm and was fast losing its appeal, but suddenly she didn't want to talk any more. She didn't want Svana to ask her any questions about her own mission, even though Jet doubted she would. She shrugged her shoulders.

"Fear can be overcome," she said quietly. Or, she thought, at least it can be hidden.

The server approached again, this time with alcohol. Jet watched to see what Svana would do. Was it too early to drink? Jet knew that Constance often snuck a drink of brandy mid-morning, but that was different. Medicinal. Wasn't it?

Mingan shook his head, the conversation of the women in the table next to him growing in intensity. Warrior-elf didn't seem to be making friends.

He chuckled to himself and glanced up to watch a brown-haired, green eyed girl wander in, distractedly looking at a notebook and muttering to herself.

She reminded him of another girl. He shook his head again. No, not a girl anymore, that one. He sighed and studied his cigarette momentarily before tucking it behind his ear. Where was that kid with the food?

As if on cue, the blond boy emerged from the back, served the women at the table and then turned to bring Mingan a selection of beers. On the house, no less.

"Hey, Kid," Mingan called after the boy. "I take the red ale, but the rest," he gestured to the generous offering. "I can't help but think your boss might take issue with handing out free drinks, as much as I appreciate it."

He quickly popped the top of the bottle of his choosing and added. "I'm gonna have a smoke, if the steak is ready before I'm back."

If nothing else, he could get a better look at the girl sitting by herself on his way to the door, his curiosity piqued.

Anna Gale

Anna exited the stock room, and leisurely made her way over to an empty table where she could observe the room at her own pleasure as she waited for the pleasant man to bring her the wine. He had a very nice smile, but she was not here to flirt.

"Fear can be useful," she murmured softly.

The waiter returned with a bottle of clear liquid she would have mistaken for water if he didn't tell her differently. He poured a small glass of it, straight, and challenged her to it. Taking it, she gave it a sniff, a smile curling about her lips. "This is more like it." She tipped it back. The drink was warm, but its taste wasn't quite the caliber she expected. It didn't have the taste of acid she was used to, but contained a bite all of its own. She licked her lips, gazing directly at the young man. "It would be a crime to weaken it. Leave the bottle," she suggested.

Kai's head perked up at the sound of the server's voice. A polite smile on her face. A part of her had wondered where were the other servers. There was usually more than one on the floor. Kai felt a little sympathy for him taking in so many orders. She decided to order light for now.

"Uh, just a sparkling water if you have it."

Besides with all the info to digest, Kai wasn't too sure if she could have the attention span on anything else.

Jet Devereux

Jet tentatively reached for the bottle in the middle of the table. She pulled it towards her, not caring what the elf-woman would think; she had money and would pay her way if need be. She sniffed the liquid, the bite making her mouth water.

"Can I have some? It smells like the stuff my sister drinks with dinner." Jet liked that, although Constance would never let her drink it so she had to take it secretly, when everybody had gone to bed. She liked the way it made her feel, liked even better the way it made her think. She could really focus, then - and focus was something she could do with right now.
