Our platform for the girls' deck was a pallet. I have made so many things from pallet wood! picture frames, birdhouses, odds and ends of stuff. Of course we've burned lots of it, too. Pallets make walkways for us over the mud when we have big downpours here, and make sheds for goats and playhouses for kids-----pallets are great.
I think watching tv has desensitized my daughter to the point that she can separate herself from the situation in the E.R., then deal with stuff later. I always hated all the stuff the girls watched, but since they have both chosen potentially stressful and bloody careers (the other one is in criminal justice) maybe it's not such a bad thing after all.

Lol, I couldn't do anything medical related. I once slammed my finger in the door and fainted. Twice. Lulz.
This woman came into the (garden)nursery where I work. She obviously came after her work as she was wearing heels, skirt, what not, fancy clothes. She was on a mission, and she wanted garlic bulbs to plant. So I showed her the packages (three bulbs per package) and she bought three packages. At six dollars a pop. Most Some people figure it that it's cheaper to buy the stuff from the grocery store. Others need to have it in "special" packaging. It's funny how easily some part with their money. (And we only sell it because there's a demand for it and the $6 price tag is same mark up as everything else in the store.)
I also got liquid kelp fertilizer for my plants. Normally use Muskie which is fish emulsion so I'm looking forward to non smell-ular results.

I planted 6 scallion stalks last week, 3 in a pot and was able to harvest their tender greens for my favorite snack, "Spring Pancakes" they are mighty good. And cheap to make, great for the hungry college student. =w=

My nicotiana is in bloom again! Such lovely things - they were going to throw it out at work but I managed to nab it. Really big leaves. Collected a bunch of seeds. Finally have managed to get all my seeds packaged and put away. Now just have to put them in my Folia stash.
Oh, and I really want an eReader so I was doing some research today. I knew that Amazon removed Nineteen Eighty-Four and Animal Farm. I'm sure they weren't being devious, but it got me thinking that eBooks give The Man the power to change the literature when you go to upload more. So, if they start now, changing a sentence here and there, down the road, questionable books may not be so questionable. So, if I get an eReader, I'll make sure to unplug from the net before plugging it in. Paranoia to the max!
And as much as he annoys me some times, I'm really happy I have my boyfriend rather than some doofus. Our house looks amazing. I love it. Too bad I didn't love Ottawa too, or I would never move.

You're right about the I Reader and anything else that isn't PRINT ON PAPER.
So how's the real estate market there, Pirhan? And won't it be awfully cold for a big move again pretty soon?

MUAHAHAHHAHAHA MY PARANOIA IS CONTAGIOUS pirate <3 <3 Ottawa is a government town, so it's a bit sheltered from the world's going ons. Depending on the closing date, we'll most likely bunk with the in laws down in Toronto (eight hours away) and then head west in the spring. We're much better planned this time round. (lol famous last words.) We signed with our realtor on Saturday. She put on the MLS (that got updated today, Monday) that viewings would start Wednesday. We figured with Thanksgiving and all, that we would have some breathing time (as the house isn't quite done or completely "pirhan" clean) before the mad rush to see this house and then go into a bidding war. Anyways, first viewing is this Wednesday. I love this house, but it's far too big and too much for me to keep on top of things. (Wood floors, cat hair, how the curtains fold, and my general fickleness regarding cleaning. I am one of those people that clean the light bulbs on a regular basis. Not kidding.) --- And holy Mother Of All That Is Good In The World gonk burning_eyes

Today i bottled my hard cider and tasted a bit, not too bad but i think it'll be better aged and then heated with mulling spices added to it. Disconnected the outside water faucet because we're expecting a frost tonight so had to get all the water out of the lines, That's about it i guess.
Thanks for posting that link pirhan, reminds me of strawberry ice cream sorta. Glad i don't consume any fast food whatsoever.

I went to an orchard the other day and had their cider. Wow, it was so scrumptious and so much better than store bought "natural" cider. Is this your first batch? Have you done just cider? I want to brew kombucha. Yeah; that link was disgusting. I knew that many meat products used the entire animal (and I don't have problems with eating the entire animal, just not the end product of the animal being pushed through a sieve), and such, but the visual really brought it home. I have a pretty good imagination, but it certainly didn't come up with anything close to that pink goo. Edit: Here's a link with videos. I'm not surprised to see the bacon one's video is by How It's Made. (Whee! Canada.)

I purchased some of my cider directly from the orchard that made it and wow was it incredible, The stuff purchased from the organic food store and the high end grocery store...were not up to snuff so to speak. But it is indeed my first attempt into the world of brewing my own alcohol. I used to have a slight interest in kombucha but that faded as I am not a real big fan of tea drinking.
I've got a vivid imagination and i've done my share of butchering and consuming of what i've butchered but never did i imagine the whole pushed through a sieve bit. Somehow mechanically separated chicken just sort of brought the image of robots ripping to pieces...which somehow in my mind was not as bad.

Yeah, strawberry ice cream or bubble gum.
Today I used the pasta maker I got from Ebay for the first time. It was fun, but there will be a little bit of a learning curve---the dough needs to be drier than handmade noodle dough to extrude properly. So maybe I'll try again in a few days.
I really enjoy a lot of the shows produced in Canada, Pirhan. I think I like "Shimmy" best. blaugh
We've had frost the past two nights. Checked the local weather longrange forecast for winter, and it looks like an ice storm setup for us. Not good news. So I've really got to get in gear here and get ready.

Did what any sensible hungry wannabe country boy does on a day like today. Baked some pies! 2 strawberry apple rhubarb pies 1 apple crisp Also cut up some tenderloins into nice Filet mignon steaks. Then i turned a big old pork loin with ribs attatched into a rack of baby back ribs, 1 large roast, and a mess of pork chops.
For dinner tonight i prepare taco's. Friday or Sunday i'll fire up the grill and enjoy some pork chops and steaks. Next week if i feel like dealing with it i'll fry some rabbit.

Today I sat in front of a pair of galoshes that had terrible gash on the side and wondered who I could fix it without duct tape because I didn't have any...and I needed them tomorrow for a field trip to an estuary and marsh.
Hopefully clear nail polish and electric tape will hold! Tomorrow a test!

Pie sounds wonderful!!!!
It has warmed up so I'm painting the outside of the house, and the inside of a little enclosed porch. Considering putting a lean-to style greenhouse up.......
Everyone is working all weekend, so I should have plenty of painting time. I might just fire up the grill, too, after dark some evening, and eat by the firepit since the mosquitoes are pretty much gone now.

The pie is wonderful lol. Though i wish it hadn't warmed up on us here because pie is just so much more of a fall thing for me. I also wish it hadn't warmed up cuz i dont like wearing a wool coat when its 78 degree's. (not that i'm wearing a coat yet my sister is fitting me for a wool coat based on a pattern we're copying from a friends coat so i have to wear the coat and get traced and blah blah blah) but it'll be fun when its done and its winter so i can wear it.
