Vanna Nightshade

Layla knew Kai was working his horns off, assisting her in having the guests of her howliday ball draw names for the gift hexchange, as was she. They only had a little time left before classes were to start, and she'd have to use the lurch period to try and finish. She gathered the kids would be too busy trying to get out of the building to catch them after classes ended for the day.

She knew who she wanted to try and get to next, but as she turned a corner in the coffin corridor, she spotted yet another ghoul who she could approach...

"Hexcussse me."

She slithered up to Vanna, holding out the skull filled with names...

"Vanna, would you care to draw a name for my ball's Secret Santa Clawsss gift hexchange?"

PostPosted: Tue Oct 06, 2015 8:25 pm
Marceline grabbed the skull out of Kai's claws, as he was entranced by some new student and seemed about to drop it. She looked inside at the tiny folded slips of paper... so many students, so many possibilities... She clinched her eyes shut and dove her hand into the skull, grabbing at a slip and shoving the skull back into Kai's hands, knocking him back into reality.

"Err... Sorry about that!" Kai shook his head. "So who did you get?"

Marceline unfolded the slip of paper, and her stomach dropped at the name written inside.

Rory Bludworth.

"Oh.... Um...." Kai winced as he read over Marceline's shoulder, and gave the skull a little shake. "Look, Marcie... it's supposed to be against the rules, but if you wanna draw another name--"

"No, no!" Marceline waved her bony hand at Kai. "I ain't lookin' for special treatment... this is fine, really."

"Really? Alright then, if you insist! Good luck on your hexams!" Kai walked off to the next student, and Marceline looked at the slip of paper in her hands again. Now that she'd cleared things up with Arillena, it seemed like the right thing to do to try to patch things up with Rory... and perhaps a gift of some kind could be the best way to do that! This is perfect! she thought... everything's going to be just fine! She clutched her books to her chest and headed to Dead Languages, feeling like Winter Break wouldn't be so bad after all...

"AUGH!" Rory nearly jumped out of his/Glen's skin as the realization sunk in. His hands twitched, and the two-faced idol that both of them had been holding fell to the ground and shattered into a hundred pieces - far worse than the breakage that had previously been glued together. "Oh no! I'm YOU!"

"What's wrong with being me?!" Glen demanded, crossing his/Rory's arms in front of him. "I've been me every day of my life! ...except today."

"But I don't WANT to be you!" Rory protested. "We need to cast a swapping spell. But I don't know any swapping spells!"

"We CAN'T cast ANY spells!" Glen insisted. "I'm grounded from magic, remember? If we cast any spells, my mom will know!"

"But-"

"SHE'LL KNOW!" Glen grabbed Rory's Glen-shoulders with his Rory-hands and gave Rory's Glen-body a shake. "She has a crystal ball and she checks in on me all the time! She'll know!"

"Stop, you'll fracture-" Rory started to protest, then realized that the Glen-body was basically fracture-proof. So there was ONE advantage amidst all of this insanity, at least. Rory stepped away from Glen and shook his head to clear it. "Let's think about this. We can't ask your mother for help."

"Or auntie Glinda! She'd have to tell my mom about this!"

"And my mother is going to be busy all day dealing with some Evil Queen situation in Mirrorverse. So I think we're on our own here."

"Every cursed object has a counter-charm that breaks the curse."
Glen added, matter-of-factually. He was playing with his/Rory's hair, apparently not used to having so much of it. "Some act or action that breaks the curse. If we can figure out what it is, then we can reverse it easy."

"Sure, easy, as long as you know what the counter-charm is!" Rory replied, blowing Glen's stringy bangs out of his own eyes. "And if we can figure it out before-"

*BRRRING*

The warning bell for going to first feariod class rang. Rory's Glen-eyes lit up with horror.

"BEFORE FINAL HEXAMS!"

"Heyyyy, Glen!"
Lagoona Blue walked up to the two of them. She held up her hand for a high-five. She was more than a little surprised when Rory Bludworth slapped it.

"Heyyy, Lagoona!" Glen said as he gave her a Rory-fied high five. "What's up?"

"Oh, uh, hey Rory, too..." Lagoona flushed a bit at what she thought was Rory ribbing her for not greeting him too. "I just wanted to remind Glen that the Skulltimate Roller Maze team is going to be getting in a quick practice on the track during the Physical Deaducation feariod, since the grimnasium is full of art projects. Gotta be in tip-top shape for Granite City, right?!"

"Right!" Lagoona raised her eyebrow again at how eager Rory seemed. Glen, on the other hand, seemed to be turning a paler shade of green.

"We'll be glad to have you in the creature bleachers fearin' for us, Rory!" Lagoona gave him a grin and a 'hang ten' wave with one hand before dashing off to her own first class. "See ya soon, Glen!"

Rory gulped a Glen-gulp. Meanwhile, Glen pouted a Rory-pout.

"Great. Now you get to have all the fun!"

"Oh dear, that's the final bell..." Draconia fretted as she stepped inside the Clawditorium. Nearly everymonster was there...except Arillena! Her lead ghoul!

"Aw, what a shame." Toralei Stripe purred. "Guess we'll just have to go with the understudy. Who was that again....oh, that's right! Me!"

"She's probably just running a bit behind." Draconia tapped her claws together nervously. "We don't need to go to the understudies QUITE yet. Please go and get ready for your actual role, please."

Toralei sniffed. She hadn't been happy at being cast as the evil witch in Sinistaria! and slinking her way into being Arillena's understudy was her only chance at being in the role she felt she actually deserved. Some monsters just didn't know talent when they saw it!

"WhatEVER. Someday I'll be performing on Bloodway. You'll see." Toralei headed to the backstage area to be fitted into her witch costume.

Draconia looked at the clock on the back wall of the Clawditorium. Nerves were starting to hit her, and hard. It was like a billion bats were fluttering in her stomach. Only a few hours till showslime....

Ah Dead Languages! The first class of the day for our harrowing adventurers, Glen and Rory! Or is it Rory and Glen? These things do tend to get complicated when one is occupying anothers body.

Well! At least the two witch cousins managed to arrive to class on time! A remarkable feat considering Rory was far more below eye level than he was used to being, and Glen was having trouble for some reason maintaining his balance with a shift in leverage. Had it not been for that zombie flash mob that appeared out of nowhere and shoveled them along the hall...

"Just keep calm and play it cool." Glen/Rory said as they entered Mister Rotter's class and headed for their respective desks. "We can use study howl and any free time to try to figure out how..."

"Psst, Glen?" Rory/Glen hissed between his teeth.

"Yesssss?"

"Where are you going?"

"To me seat, cuz o' mine."

"But that's not your seat."

"O course it is! I sit there every day!"

"I know that, but... today you're not you. You're me, and i sit over there."

Rory/Glen jetted a thumb as subtly as he could toward the direction across the class room. Glen/Rory turned and saw where he had indicated and pouted,

"But I don't WANT to sit by Marceline! I want to sit by...!"

"I know! But it's just for today... hopefully." Rory proposed, practically nudging himself over to where he was supposed to be seated. "Now go!"

Glen/Rory grumbled and fussed until he arrived at the desk beside Marceline and practically flopped into the seat, while Rory/Glen calmly took a seat in his cousin's usual chair --

That is until a muscley arm snaked it's way around Rory/Glen's shoulder and gave him a playful hug. He looked up to see Chase, in his own seat beside him, winking at him.

PostPosted: Fri Oct 09, 2015 7:40 am
"Good luck on the test!" Chase gave the shoulders of what he presumed were his boofriend a squeezing hug. Rory gave a tiny, surprised yelp but then clapped both his hands over his(Glen's) mouth.

Chase looked confused.

"Did I squish you too hard?" He asked, earnestly. Rory decided honesty was the best policy.

"No, it's not that. Chase, I think it's only fair that you know that I'm not-"

"HSSSSSSSST."Rory heard a sharp hiss coming from behind him and turned around. It was hextremely weird to turn and see his own body, the face contorted in a warning hexpression as his own hand flailed at him, Glen trying send him a signal. "SHHHH."

"But-" Rory tried to argue with Glen, who vehemently shook his head (a little TOO vehemently for Rory's comfort, to be honest. Such violent head-shaking could possibly lead to facial cracking, after all).

"No buts! She's WATCHING!" Glen's hands mimed a crystal ball. Rory sighed.

"What was that?" Chase asked sincerely, a little concern in his eyes. Both the witchy boos were acting kind of weird.

"I, uh, I just, uh, wanted to say that I'm not...a fan of hugs before tests! That's it! It's considered...super unlucky in Oz. Yeah, hugging before a test is basically asking for an F." Rory improvised. How could that POSSIBLY be a better solution than just telling Chase the truth?

"Oh...All fright! I'll save the hugs for after the test, then!" Chase turned back to his books. He was used to all of Glen's strange customs.

"HSSSSSSSSSST!" Rory turned again to look at Glen, who gave him a nodding thumbs up.

At that exact moment, Mr. Rotter spoke up.

"Mr. Bludworth."

"YIPE."
Rory nearly jumped out of his seat. But to his surprise, Mr. Rotter was standing next to his Glen-infested body...because of course he was.

"Er...yes?" Glen asked the looming teacher. Mr. Rotter's stone-face appraised him critically.

"I am quite pleased that you remembered the Mesopotamian phrase for 'let us all quiet down and prepare for the test.' HSSSSSSSSST to all of you! One hextra credit point for Mr. Bludworth."

The Changeling had convinced the Satyr to join her in this... Secret Santa Claws event. Damyn calmly reached into the skull and pulled out a slip of paper. Draconia St. George was printed neatly. The silent Fae was relieved it was a name he recognized.

Draconia St George
Only a few hours till showslime....

Arillena flew into the Clawditorium in a panic, her encounter with Marceline had distracted her so much she forgot where she was supposed to be. No longer invisible the Faerie zoomed down the rows of seats and came to an abrupt stop before Draconia.

"I am so very very sorry I am late..."
She apologized quickly. The Changeling's face and hair were shaded red from embarrassment. "It shall not happen again I promise."

The Fae caught a low growl in her ears. She new without looking that a certain Feline was not too happy about her delayed arrival.

Ari calmed down enough to return to her natural colours. The blonde offered a small Smile to her director. "It's been quite some time since I have performed with others... I shall do my best not to disappoint you."

All of the tension drained out of Draconia's wings. Her lead was here! Draconia put on a smile and clapped her claws to get everymonster in the play's attention.

"Hullo, everymonster! We're going to do one more run-through of Sinistaria! This is the dress re-hearse-al; costumes, lighting, musical cues - it will all be hexactly as it will be when we perform at the end of the school day."

Draconia gave a little quiver of excitement. Off to the side in the wings, Toralei rolled her catty eyes.

"I'm so proud of each of you! I just know we're going to blow everymonster's minds!"

The cast applauded their hard effort. Draconia closed her eyes, took a deep breath and cleared her throat. Now, it was time to get down to business.

"All fright, let's get ready. Act one, scene one. Heath, Toralei, find your marks. We start with a sinister plan being hatched by our villains...."

(sorry I'm SOOOO LATE)

"Ugh... Agh!!!" Astrid fumbles through her purse to get her stardust spray. "I'll spray it, I'm warning you!! Grr!" Astrid is always exasperated when people cannot stop noticing her extravagant wings and always comes prepared for defense in case such a situation like this would arise. Not wanting to burn everyones eyes with space stuff, she waves her arms in the air in hope that someone outside the crowd would see her and help. "Someone, please get them off of me!!"

Damyn Faolan

Kai turned from Damyn, and realized he was staring again at the mysterious new ghoul with the hypnotic wings. He had DEFINITELY not seen her in class or anywhere around the school before.

It looked like she was getting swept away with the horde of students going to class - an especially concentrated wave of Zombie students, no doubt attracted by her sparklyness as they were wont to do, were pulling her down the hallway.

"Whup! Fang on!" Kai ducked down, slipped under Slo-Mo's arm, set aside Scabetha Smith, and untangled the new ghoul from Don of the Dead's jacket. The clot of zombies was so thick that Kai had no choice - he grabbed the new ghoul by the waist, lifted her up, and waded away from the zombie flash mob.

Once they'd gotten to the side of the hallway and everything was in the clear, Kai set the mystery ghoul down.

"Whew. Sorry about that-"

*PSSSSHHHH*

Kai couldn't finish what he was saying, as he was sprayed in the face with stardust spray.

"Gah!" Kai spit out sparkles and rubbed at his eyes furiously. "You didn't have to-"

But when his vision finally cleared, the new ghoul had slipped away somewhere. Kai sighed, and pulled out a towel covered in dried paint from his bag. He wanted to look for the ghoul and hexplain why he'd grabbed her - it was true that it had probably seemed pretty rude from her point of view.

"What happened to YOU?" Layla Lamia slithered up next to Kai, grabbing the towel from him and helping him wipe off his face. "Did your collage explode?"

"No, there was this....you know what, never mind. I'll try to find her at lunch." Kai shook it off. There was so much to worry about, and focusing wasn't exactly his specialty. He had to turn his mind to other things. "Come on, let's talk as we walk."

"All fright. How many did you manage to get to draw a name?" Layla asked as she wiped away one last trace of stardust sparkle from Kai's face.

"A few. See?" He showed her his list from his iCoffin with the crossed-off names.

"Not bad. I'll update my list."

"Well...at least we got a start." Kai and Layla finished comparing notes as they stepped back into the grimnasium, checking off who they'd gotten to draw for Secret Santa Claws. "I bet we can grab everymonster else at lunchtime."

"Student bodies, please stand next to your artworks!"
Ms. Moanatella, the Art Class creature clapped her ghostly hands and brought them all to attention. "I will bring with me the proposals you wrote up at Mid-terms and we will discuss how well you accomplished your project goals."

Kai's tail gave a nervous rattle. In the middle of the Scaremester, he hadn't even had a clear idea of what he'd wanted to do for his project. Decision-making was still his greatest freaky flaw.

"You're first up, Kai."
Ms. Moanatella smiled her nearly-transparent smile at him. Kai took a deep breath as she handed him his project proposal from mid-terms.

"W-well...okay. At Mid-terms, I had a lot of ideas, really loose ideas about what I wanted to do. I sort of...wanted to do EVERYthing. I wanted an art piece that talked about friends, and family, and connections, and the world, and energy, and positivity and...yeah, I guess my proposal was kind of a mess." Kai gave the proposal a shake, and glitter, scraps of construction paper and a paintbrush fell out. "And you told me that I should focus on one message and one medium so that I could properly communicate what I was trying to say."

Kai pulled the covering off of his collage. It was covered in everything - anything, really, all of it painstakingly arranged, creating an image of infinity in a mass of materials all blending together to form waves of colors and textures. Sand, shells, paper, glue, paint, chalk, found objects, tinfoil, fabric, plastic...

"But focus isn't my style, and focus wasn't my message. My message was that everything I mentioned in my proposal...all of it works together to create life. Well...life and after-life, I suppose for some of us." He smiled at the ghostly teacher.

"So yeah...I wanted to say EVERYTHING I had to say in my proposal. And I wanted to use EVERYTHING I could get my claws on to say it." Kai scratched behind one of his horns. "I guess...if you could sum this piece up in one word, it would be Harmony. Yeah, that's the title of it. It's about how the universe, for all the craziness and randomness that's out there, it still exists in a kind of harmony. Just like this collage."

Ms. Moanatella tilted her head a few times as she examined the piece. She floated closer to it...then floated back further away. She squinted one eye and then the other.

Finally, she broke out into an approving smile.

"I can see your message in this piece. Thank you for sharing, Kai. You get an A for following through on your proposal."

Kai let out a breath of relief he hadn't realized he was holding in. She understood!

Marceline was feeling somewhat better about her situation as she entered the Dead Languages classroom, just as the final bell rang. She glanced over to her usual seat, where Dashner was furiously studying at the last moment... and Mr. Rotter was hovering over Rory. Rory seemed a bit more nervous than usual, perhaps even... hyper? Either way, she suddenly felt that strange knot tie up in her stomach and didn't feel too confident all of a sudden... perhaps with the stress of hexams, it might not be the best time to try and reconcile with him...

Her yellow eyes flicked around the classroom, searching for an open seat she could slip into before Rotter turned around... and found one next to Meowlody and Purrsephone. Clutching her books to her chest, Marceline hurriedly stalked across the classroom and slipped into the open seat, cuing some disgusted looks and a hiss from the Werecat Sisters. She heaved a sigh and set her books down at her feet, and began mentally preparing herself for the hexam.

Meanwhile, Meowlody was furiously tapping away on her iCoffin in her lap.

To: Toralei Stripe
Oh my ghoul, Toralei... that weird Loa ghoul Marceline is sitting next to us to avoid her shiny hex-boofriend! She's not taking a hint to get lost!

Rory, er, that is, Glen, sat from his chair and watched as Marceline actually got up from sitting beside him and went to switch seats! The nerve! What's worse, she chose to sit beside HIS (you know, Glen's) pals in the werecat twins!

First she caused all that drama between Rory and herself -- it's Glen's obligation as cousin to pick that story and stick to it! Then she decided that she was too good to sit beside him! (Not that he wanted to sit beside her in the first place!) And THEN she sat beside HIS (again, Glen) fiends! Breaking his cuz's heart! Insulting him! AND attempting to steal Meowlody and Purrsephone's fiendship!?

Glen/Rory shot up from his seat and pointed across the classroom and shouted,
"I DIDN'T WANT TO SIT BESIDE YOU ANYWAY!!!"

All sound, even breathing (for those monsters that actually did that sorta thing), immediately halted at the outburst as all eyes fell toward Glen/Rory who wagged a shiny finger in Marceline's direction.

"I'M RORY AND YOU DON'T DESERVE A BOO AS NICE AS HIM I MEAN ME"

Mister Rotter stared, flabbergasted and trying to recall if any student had ever done this in his class before.

"I AM STILL RORY!" He declared, fists proudly on his hips before he took his seat once again....

A single cough from some random student...

And Chase wondering why Glen was trying so hard to hunker down in his chair to hide.

Act 1 of 'Sinistaria!' had just come to a close. Even though she TOTALLY deserved the lead role, Toralei had to admit that she was KILLING it as the villainous witch. And to be purr-fectly honest, if she'd been cast as the goody-two boos lead anyways she'd have had to come up with some ways to...spice the role up.

So, as long as Arillena didn't annoy her TOO much, Toralei decided to behave. As boring as that was...

Toralei glanced down at her iCoffin as she sat to get her wart-covered makeup refreshed before the dress re-hearse-al of Act 2.

"Twelve messages? Rawr, M&P, you two must be REALLY bored during Mr. Rotter's hexam..."

Toralei started scrolling through the messages from her cronies.

Oh my ghoul, Toralei... that weird Loa ghoul Marceline is sitting next to us to avoid her shiny hex-boofriend! She's not taking a hint to get lost!

Strongly considering putting a tack in her chair if she stands up, but we can't decide if her bony behind would feel it at all.

OMGHOUL. Toralei.

YOU MISSED IT.

The hex-boofriend just had the most EPIC meltdown. EVER. Pointing and yelling at herrrrrrr

Trying not to un-die laughing

Mr Rotter doesn't even notice us hexting, he's just staring a hole through Rory

Checking now to see if Marceline accidentally got within eyerange of Deuce, or if she's just petrified from embarrassment

Toralei scratched her chin. This was a hexcellent opportunity to test a little bit of claws-and-effect, wasn't it? It was so rare to get a purr-fect chance to do a little bit of character manipulation.

And besides, Toralei thought to herself as she started tapping furr-iously to her ghoulfriends, it was ridiculous that Marceline was getting all of that attention for performing at Woestock this morning. Not one monster had wished Toralei luck for the play - not even a single shout-out to 'break a leg!' They had all been too busy trying to flock Marceline and the other Rest-In-Peacers. Something had to be done about this.

To: Meowlody, Purrsephone

Ghouls. Ghouls. Don't laugh at Marceline, okay? It's time for a little kindness to our dear, mortal-fied friend. In fact, invite her to sit with us in the Creepateria at lunch. And then, tell her-

Toralei finished outlining her idea to her beasties, slipping her iCoffin into the pocket of her witch dress just as Invisi Billy gave her the signal that she was due on-stage in 30 seconds.
