Some sort of radioactive device that requires charging but fires a beam that will mutate the gene to the superpower one.

Yeah, I was thinking of a more subtle thing like that... But I need to think of options... Gming on the fly probably isn't the best idea.

Some sort of corrupting poison that must be absorbed through the blood stream so it must be spread by sending someone in with a knife to slash people slightly. Or perhaps an airborn toxin that does the same thing.

Yeah... The Wheel of Time has one hell of a plot, so much happens, and it may not be until later that you realize the significance of what happened a few books ago. So epic...

Oh, that is only one or two chapters at the end of book 12, there is no way there would be an essay on a scene that lasts less than 20 pages in a series 10,500 long. Something about fate could be an interesting one, or prophecy. Duty also works, and sacrifice. So many themes and metaphors in that book that actually make sense...

Book one is only 750 pages or so and filled with epic scenes.

Yeah, but with all these tiny books we are forced to read, they would die with any good book. They need to build up peoples tolerance for larger books and a variety of styles, instead of just first person fiction, non-fantasy books featuring rape. So boring.
