As you were walking home, you found that you had stayed out far later than you had wanted, and a dense fog had begun to cover the streets, the dimmed glow of the lampposts and the softened silhouette of the moon served as the muted light sources of your path. You passed by a long alleyway, when from deep within, far beyond in the dark where no light could penetrate, a deep rumbling noise crept into your ears. Abandoning your instincts to curiosity, you leaned into the alley a tad, and that's when you began to make out a shadow in the fog. You weren't not sure what it was, but it was big, that much was sure. The rumble slowly formed into an audible growl, and you finally let your fear take over, running down the street as fast as possible, making sure to stay in the lit open streets. After a few minutes, you stopped to catch your breath. You looked back, and to your relief, nothing was there, no ghouls on your tail or monsters waiting in the fog. You sighed, and chuckled nervously to yourself. How silly, getting scared over nothing...

You then turned around to continue on your way, when towering in front of you was a hulking mass of deep blue fur, armed with massive gray claws which it balanced its weight on, as it slowly got on all fours to meet your gaze. Its haunting green eyes locked onto your horror-stricken face, and you could have sworn its crooked fanged jaws formed a maddening grin as it snarled at you and began to close in. You backed up at it came closer, trying not to make any sudden movements, your breathing labored with a paralyzing fear. Your mind was swirling, it was as if your body was controlling you in this desperate time, the primal instinct to live, to get away, to not be ripped to shreds in the street, to not be the first name on tomorrow's obituaries... When suddenly the thing stopped. At first, you couldn't understand it, until you looked down to see a small circle of light. And you were in it. The monster was not. You then looked up to see the comforting salvation of a lamppost's glow, and when you looked back to the street, the beast was gone as swiftly and mysteriously as it had appeared, and in its place was a little blue... present. You picked it up, wondering if this was all some sort of twisted practical joke, when as if responding to you picking up the box, a howl rang through the streets, and you instinctively clutched the package to your chest, and as the town became silent once more, you relaxed, looked down at the box, and read the little, and ironically neatly written, tag:

-Saved by a lamppost, how ironic.
