Then you're not playing a paladin. Diplomacy should be a reqired skill for all classes, but just because you have a diplomacy score, that doesnt mean you wont vigorously smite someone who opposes you.

I have a lot of friends whose views I thoroughly disagree with. I am able to hold my tongue most of the time. (When you and I fight it's only because I feel comfortable enough to express my views to you, besides arguing with you can be fun)
