Marcus gave her a look before loosening a loop in his grandmother's corset inconspiciously. The Duchess's breathing slowly returned to normal, her head still spinning. "Perhaps," she wheezed, "we should now continue on to supper."

Lord Arvin nodded in agreement and helped the duchess to her feet, giving a strange look at the younger couple before leading her slowly to the dining hall.
Terryn stood still behind them, biting on her bottom lip and thinking rather hard.

"I know you really do want to kill me now, but perhaps given tonight's circumstances, you'll hold off on that," said Marcus, standing with a faint, unintentional smile.

Terryn shook her head. "I could not kill you." She started walking away. "I would be the first suspect."

OOC: We need to plan something now.
"Yes, you would," agreed Marcus, walking towards the dining hall as casually as nothing unusual at all had happened.

((yeah i know...))
As Terryn sat down to dinner, she found herself shifted into an uncomfortable mode with the elders present. She much preferred being alone when she didn't have to keep up appearances and pretend to be courting Marcus.

OOC: Should we skip to when they're home, stay where we are, or skip to after dinner?
Marcus, too, had become very quiet, and found a hitherto unknown interest in cold pheasant.

After dinner, Marcus was continually prodded in the stomach and hissed to by his grandmother. And finally, to pacify her, he bade his grandmother and the earl away.
"The Duchess would like to know if you would consent to being unaccompanied otherwise and joining me one evening in the countryside?" he asked, his voice a little irratable.

Terryn raised an eyebrow. "Unaccompanied? Are you sure that it would be allowed?" She glanced over Marcus's shoulder at the elders speaking far off in the distance. Her father seemed to be nodding. "Well, I-" She caught sight of her father glancing their way and automatically became more formal. "I would be delighted." She extended her hand to him, trying not to focus on her father's gaze.

Marcus raised an eyebrow, but then noticed that Terryn seemed to be avoiding the elders' gaze. He bowed, keeping his back straight, and kissed Terryn's hand formally. "I will arrive here to fetch you Friday, in the late afternoon," he said, straightening up.
