===Zhou Tai===
Zhou Tai veiwed the city with silent solace. Two consecutive attacks had done its toll on the city. Many buildings lay in rubble, and it seemed nothing was damaged in some way. The ground was soaked in the blood of both Japanese and Chinese. Soldiers, wounded or not, wandered the city helping where they could. They were fatigued, that was obvious.
"I don't think this city could hold out against another attack," Tai commented to Zhou Yu.

Xing Cai slept and woke up a while later. She ate just a little and then left, feeling that she would be able to last long enough outside. She left when her maid wasn't watching, walking strait to the streets and over to where some of the damage was. Seeing her men working without even having rested struck guilt into her heart. What right did she have to stop and rest while she stayed inside and rested like a pampered girl? Furious with herself she strode forward, ignoring the voices of the men telling her to stop. She would help them. Cai may be the daughter of Zhang Fei, but she, just like these other men, was a soldier. So she would act like one, just as she should.
Cai was now working on the outside working on moving the dead to be given their proper honors. After about two hours she finished what she was doing, then headed back in through the gates and headed back into her room. Once she did she sat down and found that she was trembling. Had she gotten up too early? It didn't matter. She had to work hard. Xing Cai grabbed a change of clothes and headed to the maid's bathing room. She undressed and dumped a bucket of water on her head, and using the water rubbed off the blood, dirt, and grime as best she could while being careful with her bandages. Hopefully the smell of the dead would go away as well. She dumped one last bucket of water over herself to all of the loose bits that she'd rubbed free off and then dried herself and dressed. Cai returned to her room and parted her hair, then brushed it all out and braided one side along with her green ribbon. She put the ornament in her hair and put emerald choker that Gan Ning had given her around her throat. She paused and looked at it, running her fingers around the collar. She prayed dearly that he was alright... but of course he would be! He was a powerful fighter- much stronger than she was. However, still, she couldn't help but worry....
Xing Cai left with her fork and shield, walking outside and stopping for some rest before walking down the streets again. Her body was yelling at her to rest, but she continued on her way, trying to discover some way that she could be useful.
'I... want to go back home.' She thought quietly to herself, stopping and looking towards the damaged wall. 'I have to be strong, and I will be, but I... father, I miss you very, very much.'
Facing forward again she walked, feeling empty inside. She needed to do something. She needed to go home. Alas... she lifted her head up and continued walking forward, heading to the gate. As she arrived she heard her uncle's booming voice followed by the gates opening. There, in front of her, entered two warriors clad in crimson. Wu. The burning kingdom of fire that claimed that their family bond was stronger than anyone elses'. She stepped back off of the road and as they entered bowed, though she said nothing for the time being. What were men of Wu doing here? She would wait for her uncle. Though she had a feeling that he might tell her to go back inside and rest, something that she definately needed to do but was too stubborn to do so.
"Welcome to Xia Pi." She stated, deciding that it would be rude not to greet them. "My name is Xing Cai." As she said her name she bowed again, keeping the pain of her wounds from showing.

"I don't either, Zhou Tai, we'll just have to see that very thing does not happen." he finished speaking to Tai and looked ahead to see the Great Guan Yu and fair Xing Cai in front of him. "Ah, Guan Yu, a pleasure to see you again. In such trying circumstances though, I grieve for your fallen. And Lady Xing Cai, it's an honor to see your beauty in person, for I have only heard of you before. Thank you for welcoming us into your city, we only seek to help. We truly aprreciate your hospitality." he finished, waiting for either to say something back.

"Master Zhou Yu, Master Zhou Tai, welcome to Xia Pi. Unfortunately under the current circumstances I cannot show you the more beautiful side of the city. Under order of my Lord we welcome you to the kingdom of Shu." He thrust his fist into an open palm and bowed to the two Zhous. He waited for the officers to be fully welcomed into the city before giving the order to close the gate. "So perhaps you would know, Zhou Yu, a little about the Japanese soldiers who were fighting on our side in this battle. I noticed three men in particular who were most obviously not Chinese. There was a tall man with scraggly, unkempt hair, a warrior clad in crimson armor who managed to even impress me, and closer to the end of the battle there was a large man, perhaps even as big as I am, who had wild yellow hair. Would you happen to know anything about any of these men?"

Xing Cai nodded and bowed to the to Wu officers, thinking about their words for a few moments. She turned her head to listen to what her uncle had to say and also thought about those. Cai didn't know anything about these men. She hadn't even known that they been there. She'd been busy fighting with Date nearly the entire battle. Her eye brows formed together for a second as she thought about him, wondering if he was alright and what had happened to him.
'He is the enemy....' Xing Cai thought to herself quietly, turning her head to look back at the other two men. '...So why must I be filled with such compassion and grief for him? This heart of mine... at times it feels too small, and that I don't give enough to the others around me. That I have to try harder. And yet, at other times, I cannot help but stop and think about the enemies in battle. The way that so many of them have died. Lost their lives, battling for their own personal cause. We all want the same thing. So why must we quarrel like so? All of our ideas are so different, yet they ultimately lead up to the same thing. But still, we must fight. Is my heart too big, or too small? Is it too open? So many questions.'
Cai turned her head away to look down the street, watching as a few children ran around playing some kind of a game she'd never seen before. Despite herself she smiled, unable to hold it back. These children... all of the children of Shu. They were the future. They were the life. They were the innocence behind the blood and war.
"Please pardon me," Xing Cai removed her eyes from the children and gave the two men a polite bow. "I'm afraid that I must go now. There are some affairs that I must attend to myself. And... thank you so much for coming to help us. We need all of the aid that we can get. May the heavens bless you as they have blessed us with your coming here."
She gave them one last smile and then turned away, walking down the street as strait as she could. Cai would be sure not to let the weakness of her wounds show. Her father would do so, and so she would as well! With this in mind she approached the children playing and tilted her head, then bent down and sat on one of her ankles. She set her fork down and held her hand out to the children, and asked: "Would mind if I joined you?" They paused and looked over at her for a moment, then looked at each other, and finally held out the ball that they were playing with to her. She stood up and then dropped the ball, kicking it with her foot a few times before tossing it back at them. The children all laughed and started running after it, Cai's soft brown eyes watching them. She was too slow to help with rebuilding for now, so she would watch after the children. The children weren't shy or afraid of being around her. They hadn't seen the true horror of war yet, though they had seen some of it. Cai would be certain to retain and protect this innocence. It was her duty now. Everyone else was always looking out at the battlefield and protecting the stone walls. She would be looking out over the battlefield and the stones walls as well. But now... she would be certain that these children knew that they were protected. Someone to protect their innocence for as long as they could.
Xing Cai knew well that she was still in the view of her uncle and the two officers and wasn't quite sure if they approved, but she would stay, nevertheless. She could move her pride aside for the sake of the children.
"Hurry, pass it to me!" Cai yelled out, now fully joining the children with her shield and weapon set off to the side. It was painful to move, indeed, but she could bare through it.

"Lord Guan Yu, I could tell you much of the latter you have described. He is now part of our army, and is a tremendous fighter not unlike yourself. He has gone with Sun Ren to form a plan with intent of rattlign Nobunaga if at all possible. The other two, unfortunately, I do not know of at all, sorry to be of no help in that manner. Thank you for welcoming us into this city, we could help in restoration if you do wish, battles are to come. Brother Sun Ce and your brother Liu Bei are talking of an alliance at this very moment, it would be beneficial for us all to be allies at this precarious time."

Guan Yu nodded as he heard Zhou Yu's words, "So he is the new fighter for Wu. I am sure he will prove useful in the future. We here at Shu should look into gaining some foreign fighters also as a source of information. We really don't know anything about the enemy at all. But then again, you can never be too careful about inviting someone from the enemy's land to join your army." He paused for a moment as he looked over at Xing Cai as she played with the children. A smile crept across his face before turning back to Zhou Yu. "Yes, an alliance is indeed necessary. In any case we would gladly accept your help with restoration, Master Zhou Yu, but what needs to be done can't be done in a short amount of time. Our gate is damaged and that will take some time to repair. The fires have been put out and the dead have been cleaned up, so I really don't see what we would have you do without keeping you from your brother and your troops for too long."

Xing Cai had trained for many, many days during her life but these children certainly seemed to be putting her to shame! It was wonderful to see such energy in them. A smile graced her lips as they continued running and playing.
After some time had passed the children eventually moved to another game which she excused herself from. They begged her not to leave but she simply stated that she had some adult business to attend to. With that she left, walking in through the streets. Xing Cai sensed that she was too weak to really help any of the soldiers with the work that needed to be done. The best that she could do without getting in the way was survey the work.
Despite her ideas at first, Cai ended up helping the first group of soldiers that she saw. She mentally cursed herself but knew that she couldn't walk away from them. The work that needed to be done was mostly just cleaning up some of the rubble that was laying around. The soldiers needed to get access to certain areas and the mess that was everywhere was preventing them from doing so. After some work at this she pulled herself away to go and look at the others. This time she managed not to get herself involved in anything and only stayed long enough to be certain that everything was in order before moving onto another area. This cycle was repeated until she found that everything was running smoothly. Now Xing Cai stood with a smile on her face, a sense of pride flowing through her. Despite the fact of all that they had been through, the soldiers... her soldiers. Her family. Those who she had to protect- were all working together. Wu claimed to have the strongest family ties, but was it as powerful at the ties that Shu had? Xing Cai couldn't help but feel a little competition towards them- she wouldn't present it, but she supposed that there wouldn't be any harm in feeling it. Her thoughts about family quickly moved to her father. As his face came into her mind a pang suddenly pierced her chest. Cai was half saddened about her father and half irritated at her homesickness. It was true that this was her first real battle, but Father had been away so many times! She should be used to having him not be around. She merely shook her head and took in a deep breath to clear her thoughts. There were people that she needed to check on.
"Do you know where Lord Gan Ning is?" Cai asked a random soldier. He bowed but told her that he didn't- and from the look on his face he probably didn't even know the name. So she tried a different approach. "So you have not seen a pirate wearing bells wandering around?"
That lit up his face, but the answer was still no. She thanked him and continued on, set on finding out wherever Gan Ning was. She had to know if her new friend was hurt or not. Cai silently scolded herself for not asking about him earlier when she'd been with her uncle.

"We shall help, Wu needs a base of operation in your land, if this could be it we would be very appreciative of your genoristy. For now, however, the thing we strive for is diselimination of this invading force. It threathens us, it threatens you, hell, it evens threathens Cao Cao & Wei. We shall see how they fail, but they are much less agreeable then Wu and Shu can be with each other. Anything we can do to earn our keep, so to speak, we will gladly perform. These people do need help, and while we understand that Shu has done a tremendous job helping them, we can lend our help as well." Zhou Yu shifted in his saddle staring into the distance beyond the rubble surrounding them. Things would be peaceful again, that was a fact, but, when?
Gan Ning was there, just not seen by Xing Cai. Was what he heard correct, did Xing Cai really care where he was and his health? He'd never felt this before, a throbbing in his heart. What could it be? He felt truly....appreciated, something he hadn't really felt before, like he belonged in Shu, to enforce peace throughout the land and settle down from his pirating ways. But he couldn't give that up easily. It would take something immense. Ning stepped out of the shadows directly into Cai's line of vision and gave a cheeky smile, waving at her.

It seemed as if Gan Ning was off doing... something. Xing Cai supposed that he couldn't be dead or else Uncle Yu would have told her... yes, she could be reassured with this thought. She nodded slowly to herself, her feet taking a few steps forward as she wondered about what else to do. There was, for now, not much to do aside from finding out where Lord Gan Ning and watch over the soldiers. But it seemed as if the soldiers were taking care of themselves and Ning didn't seem to want to be found. He stuck out like a sore thumb in a crowd, yet she couldn't seem to find him anywhere. That rang awfully ironic in her mind. Typical for something like this to happen....
And then he appeared: right out from behind a corner! Cai's eyes widened with brief surprise before she returned the smile and raised her arm to wave back to him. There he was! She let out a soft breath before walking up to him, her eyes flickering down his frame to be sure that he wasn't injured.
"Ning! I've been looking for you." Cai stated, a soft smile gracing her lips as she stopped walking and turned her chin up to look at him. "You don't seem to be injured- I'm glad. It would not do for the new addition to the Shu army to get hurt too badly." Cai almost felt like hugging him. It was good to see that he was in good condition. "There are people from Wu here, now." She thought that the colors that Ning was wearing matched their colors quite well. Now another thing rang into her mind. "Oh, I also wanted to thank you... for the necklace." A hand moved up and a slender finger trailed over the leaf that hung from the golden band around her throat. "I promise to wear it when I go out to battle. I'm honored to have been given a gift from someone as strong as you are." She gave him a small bow, her head moving in a nod. If Ning had the respect of her father, then that meant that he had her respect as well.

"I know you have, I'm so sorry to have worried you. Gah, pretty stupid of me, ya? It'll never happen again, I assure you." his smile didn't fade, it just goofily stayed plastered on his face, it seemed contagious too, since she was smiling too. He'd never meant so much, usually it was just: Kill someone, drink, have intercourse with random women, never really get noticed before by a kingdom. But he felt, welcome here. "Me...injured? Not in a billion years." he chuckled loudly at such a notion, letting his confidence always be known. "And you aren't either, but I had no doubt in my mind that you wouldn't. You're a tough customer, stronger than most men I used to battle with." Ning's off-kilter way of complimenting a fighter reared itself again. "Wu? I used to be rather close to their territory, maybe they won't remember me very well. Oh, the necklace, no problemo. I wanted to give it to you because you are my friend, my ally. I want you to walk away from every battle, alive and well. You are the person that really genuinely welcomed me into this kingdom, and for that, you have my utmost gratitude and friendship. Oh, and no more bowing!" he finished with a jolt, angry to always be bowed at, "I'm not your superior, I'm not your leader. I'm not saying showing reverance is wrong, but to me? I think it is wrong to do that to me. Let's show respect someway different." he smiled, softly grabbing the sides of her shoulders and tilting her head back up to meet his, out of a bow. "We're buds, I'm not your Lord."

A tough customer? Cai's cheeks turned a soft pink from the praise, but she stayed silent as it came and merely smiled. Something that surprised her, though, was how he reacted when she bowed and gave her thanks. He wanted her to come out of every battle safely... that was a kind thing to hear. Cai would have to keep this necklace as a type of good-luck charm, then. She wouldn't be bashful in wearing it. It was very pretty but not too flamboyant, something that she liked- and it wouldn't get in her way during the midst of battle.
When Ning told her to spot bowing she could sense a hint of anger at the edge of his tone. It wasn't enough for her to be concerned, but it gave her the impression that he was just a little annoyed with it. She could be reading his emotions wrong, but she believed that that was what was happening. Now his hands were on her shoulders, until one moved to lift her chin up. "'Buds'?" Cai repeated, blinking as she repeated the words. "I think that I... like that." To show respect in a different way? Cai had been taught that bowing was the only true way of showing respect. But they were buds now (as Ning said it), so that meant that bowing would be too formal.
"We can work on it." She stated after a few moment of contemplation, her face lighting up. "A new way of respect, I mean." Hugging would be... odd, considering that Gan Ning wasn't even wearing a shirt. "Here, let's do this," she stepped back to let shoulder slip out from underneath his grip, then grabbed one of his hands between her smaller ones. "A simple handshake can always serve well until we can think of something else, friend."

Gan Ning noticed her slightly blushing, or at the very least, turning a lighter shade of her already paler than usual skin color. "I'm glad you like that, we're both in this together. I don't want you dying, you don't want me dying, we'll watch each other's backs. Be a team." he said, with a serious meaning behind those words, all his joking mannerisms put to the side. A personality Ning didn't often exhibit: seriousness. "I'd like to work on such a thing. And, yes, for now a handshake will very well suffice." his face lit up at the idea as he (as soft as he was able) grasped her hand back and shoke it swiftly but gently. Harder than it should've been, for a strong gruff guy and all, shaking a petite girl's hand. The sensation reared itself again in his stomach, what was it he was feeling? Could it be....nah, it couldn't be that. He'd only known her for the shortest of times, but, maybe it was. Although, he'd never even felt that feeling around other women, the ones that he casually interloped with after battle's to calm himself down. Yet, they were merely garden-variety whores, this Xing Cai, had a grace unlike them. She kept herself, unlike them. Her appearance gave an air of gentleness and petiteness, not unlike a heavenly angel or fairy. Gan Ning had never felt this confused in his life, oh well, he could only benefit from it, he hoped.

"A team sounds wonderful." Cai beamed, her back straitening a little. She couldn't even feel that pang of pain from her wound that had buzzed a little as she moved. Another friend, just like Ping and her mentor Zhao Yun. She could tell that he meant it from the way that the pirate was acting. From what she had seen of him Cai believed his personality to be much more of a free, joking type, so his seriousness was a sign of him being truthful. His firm handshake was another sign.
"I am very glad to have met you, Ning." She stated, an odd sensation on her lips. She wanted to say the words "Lord" and "Gan," but knew that it wouldn't be right. Despite this, it felt more comfortable just say "Ning."
Now she turned her head to look out over the city. "Though the battle was hard, we've still managed to pull through; if barely. It will take some work to get everything together, Shu will be able to do it." She tightened her grip on Ning's hands as her hands continued trailing. "You are my friend now, and not a superior, and certainly not my uncle..." she now looked back at him, her head moving once to tilt, as if the ornament she had in her braided hair was suddenly too heavy. "So I will admit to you that I am homesick." She bit her lip immediately afterwards, looking a little crestfallen. "My whole family has been away from me many times, but for some reason, despite having family here, I miss my father deeply. I feel a little childish."

"I'm glad it does. I want to be your bestest friend." he said, now in a joking tone as he enunciated 'bestest'. "Aww, don't get all emotional on me, Cai." he chuckled with a sly grin. "Truthfully, that is awful sweet of you to say that. I'm glad to have found you too." Gan Ning looked around with her, surveying the damage to the town, "Ai, it'll be tough, but we can bring relief and aid to these people, you and me, Cai. We can make their live's a little brighter, give them food, water, shelter. I'd really like that. But for now, I wonder if we should do just that: try to locate people in need or ward off burgulars looking to get possesions during the chaos after this attack." Ning lowered his head, somewhat bowing for the fallen people from the battle. "Homesick? Hmm, I can't even think about that word I guess. My father was a pirate, he was killed before I was even born, on a raid. The town police got a clue and completely sniffed the raid he was in. My mother, she was taken away shortly after giving birth to me, so I raised myself as best I could. That's how I learned to fight, probably, having to catch my own food and home, I guess." Ning's expression's seemed sad, most likely, but he was actually happy to have been dealt this tough card, he thought it improved him as a straggler, a fighter. "But I think I understand, and I don't think it's childish. You are not childish, you are a very beautiful young woman that is strong like her father in every way: emotionally, physically, and mentally." he hoped his words would help calm her nerves a little. But after blurting out his life story it might make her feel pity for him, and he didn't really want or need pity from anyone, even if it was such a sweet person like her.
