Maybe he should point out that he either grew his own or got them in the one large crate that the grocery shop near home had, and never bothered to tell the difference between them other than ripe and unripe ones. Or maybe not. She probably wouldn't put unripe tomatoes into anything, anyway, right? "As long as they're red, I suppose they should be fine."
Oh, hmm. That tin can might find that information interesting. Perhaps it applied to that fellow's targets too. "That's alright. It's not expected that anyone reach that far with extremely thorough results. Though, it is kind of a pity, but I suppose there are reasons why they prevented it. Not just in the creation of super-beings that surpass even both sides of the spectrum." That... Ah, the ethics and the consequences were not one that he wanted to face, anyway. "What, you were expecting me to take you to the operating table after hearing that? Haven't you already gotten enough of it?" And he quickly plugged that noise hole of his with another cookie, lest anything else insensitive pop out.
"Um!" Maybe not that close! "Only in terms of human laws, though! I haven't ticked off any immortals yet, at least, I hope so... And I still have to work it off, thanks to a bit of a fallacy in that kind of imperfect judgement. And besides..." Still not wanting to dwell on the death toll of that incident, maybe the subject of inmate conversation was a better one. "People in the clink are interesting. And strangely, for all its rigid rules and punishments, there's still enough space for a wide variety of people to co-exist. And enough shenanigans to go on that last even when you're wandering outside. Oh, right." He turned back to Amarante, a hint of that innocently childish nature shining through. "That was in exchange for spiking his food the one time they tried letting me cook for the inmates. It was not a lot though, just an extra spoonful of that green.... green... What's that? That green root paste that makes your nose go runny when you eat it? I just thought it would go well with the noodles he wanted." Which also resulted in him getting attacked on first sight, and grudging apologies afterwards. A strange tale, even stranger still told by someone so tight-lipped about his background.
"Well, for starters, I've been sitting here for the good part of the day and not a single wound has been inflicted on me. I'd say that's a good start, isn't it?" Better than most already! People seemed to not understand that being a medic did not automatically mean that he was fine with being on the receiving end of weapons or damage-dealing objects, even if their reasoning that he was supposed to be 'tanking' the damage was logical.
Oh, that's a relief. At least someone was not dying nearly immediately from sugar overload. "So, your thoughts? Want it less sweet? Or sweeter?" Already thinking about how he should modify the recipe to better suit her tastes. Other than resisting dumping a large tin of sugar into the cookie mix, of course. "Switch with butter chocolate? Milk chocolate? Or...?"

"Any particular reason for red? Preference~?" Of course an ambitious redheaded girl would attempt to angle a completely unrelated conversation in her own favor. "There's also orange, yellow, and green~ Probably also a few others than aren't natural."
On the surface the explanation was quite simple. "It's just considered prohibited activity as far as the surrogate system is concerned. First and foremost, it is that. I mean, you've seen her. She's hardly some all-powerful super being. Her body's only gained any semblance of stability within the past few years." The look in her red eye became incredibly frigid as her trust and affection was met with... well, whatever that was. "I guess you wouldn't really understand that concept, of only being seen as a means to an end to most." Countering her on what she considered to be a sensitive issue was a very bad idea to say the least. And she was unwilling to let him get away with it, driving to the heart of the matter with pained words. "Why is it that any time that I'm candid with you, you first thought is to be acerbic or panic? Just... pushing me away as quickly as you can?" What an awful feeling. Depressing, really. Though maybe not as depressing as having to admit what followed. "I can't help the way I feel, and I'm not going to just fall out of love with you if you're mean to me, but..." Chest tight. Throat tight. Head heavy. Face hot and pressed into her palms. Only choice there was, was to endure. The grey face that lifted itself up again boldly looked him right in the eye. "Even if you won't accept my feelings, I deserve more consideration from you than you give me." Any courage she'd mustered up to say such a thing to begin with was gone by the time she was done saying it, bottom lip bit back and trembling with quite the hurt look in her eye. "You're nice to pretty much everyone aren't you? But pretty selectively mean to me..." She was too unhappy to really think about any significance that could be found in that, if there even was any.
Of course, the subject that followed hardly helped matters. "Then you must have accepted that I'm telling the truth, if you're that quick to distance yourself from me. Or do you see it fit to judge me too?" Her watery-eyed glower faded some as she listened to him, downgrading itself to a look of quiet misery by the time she saw it fit to respond. "Not something I'd be familiar with. I was kept in solitary until the trial. And then..." It probably didn't count as company if the person one was tortured with barely acknowledged one was there. She was a little distracted by his odd story, though her ill-tempered mood remained. "Wasabi? You put a spoonful of wasabi in someone's food?" With a bit of a confused look, she relented to doing a little reminiscing of her own. "Katakura would whack you for sure. That is, the person that oversaw my forced learning of cooking."
She definitely wasn't looking thrilled with his impression of their meeting. "I suppose that's one way of putting it." Following a heavy sigh, she felt it necessary to explain further. "'At least I'm not hurt' isn't something that's generally considered flattering, though... so I really hope there's more to it than just that." Giving him the benefit of the doubt when she didn't have to do so, so it seemed like her hurt feelings weren't irreversibly so at least.
Her thoughts were too weighed down by other things to want to think about cookies, but still there was an attempt that was made. "I guess I'd have to try more to know." She wasn't really in the mood to think about such a thing anyway, but she had a point. "I didn't eat much of one before you ate the rest of it." Her expression began to lighten as she thought it over. The slight possibility of him reacting to that statement wasn't enough. Time to go in for the kill, even if she was left stuck with that other guy for a bit as a result. "Do you feel obligated to have things my lips have touched, or what?" A nonsensical question at best, but she considered it fair play to make him squirm a little in exchange for his impudent words. "No need to be so indirect about such things, dearest~" She was definitely going to be yelled at, oh yes. But it was so worth it, as far as she was concerned. The bit of a smile that finally surfaced showed just that.

"Aren't green ones sour...? And orange and yellow ones might not be as sweet." Blue tomatoes, though. That would be a sight to see! "... Can't say I'm an expert on that. I only know that the red ones are nice." Probably should try something else next time, then.
"In my defense, he did ask for a spoonful to dip his fish in. He just did not specify where I should have put it, or the size of the spoon." But even so, surely a tablespoonful of wasabi in a bowl of soup noodles was overdoing it. "Surprised that his pet had not noticed the smell... Ah, wait. Perhaps that kind of animal can't detect that smell. Hm." All the better, now to put that little bit of trivia to use! If it could not smell, then... Oooh, schemes were ticking! "... Forced? Why? Was it to help someone out around the house? ... N-Not that I'd want to get whacked over the head with a wooden spoon, anyway." He was a little glad then, that he had self-taught.
".... Ack!" Oooops, he only just realized his mistake. "U-Um... Sorry! T-That just slipped my mind! Whatever did I say that for..." Ah, no wait, she was getting the wrong idea! "N-No! Just um..." Don't panic! "I... I did that without thinking. That's it. I'm sorry about that." With that, he snatched up another cookie and handed it to her again, this time with his fingers trembling anxiously. "H-Have this one instead. I promise I won't eat it again." Hah, situation defused without his help! Not like he would have someone else admitting that to her... Ah! It's just absentmindedness! And of course the laughter meant he believed otherwise. But ignoring that issue had gone on long enough.
".... Amarante." Not the tone trying to figure out exactly at which points he had been mean, but the tone reserved for someone awaiting instruction. "I'm sorry. My actions and words were clearly out of line." Clearly and slowly, multitasking at trying not to let his mouth run and fending off his accusatory remarks. "I... I won't say it was easy, treating everyone with equal politeness, but if you think I'm being extra mean to you..." Oh, here we go. The denial of blame. "... Then you're absolutely right." Eh? "I cannot justify it, by right I should not be trying to, even. Yet... You got this close. I owe you an explanation, and not some half-hearted, vague answer." Well, she was only one of the four who managed to drill so deeply into his masquerade. Of which all three he had learnt to fear deeply, so surely letting her go any further would only lead him to fear her as well? "I don't wish to repeat the cycle over, so I thought rejecting anyone else who dug that deep would help. Clearly it is not helping this situation, as you've already brought up. Therefore, a change of plan is needed." Hands placed back down and cookie returned to the lid, palms now empty.
"You did mention before that opening up to you is an option, rather than keeping the information to myself. Would you really rather that over an alternative? It is not the trust that is a factor here, but rather the potential reactions, and the fact that I am directly defying the instructions of at least one person. And given that," he picks up the little pile of cookies to flip the lid over, revealing the remains of the crushed blue object latched onto it. "I am unsure about the consequences of that action. That does not mean I am not fully prepared to accept it, of course."

The sly smile that appeared probably wasn't related to tomatoes. "Well, red is better." Still barely keeping on topic, and with added smugness to boot. "I can hardly think of a case where that isn't true!" There were probably plenty of said cases but she was being too fanciful to mind much, delighted expression on her face plain to see.
A light look of exasperation in response to him making excuses for basically poisoning someone's food was probably to be expected. "Haa~ Surely you learned to be more careful of instructions and requests, because of that?" A professional excuse maker such as herself couldn't judge him too harshly after all. And his story just seemed to be getting all the more strange. "What kind of prison allows pets anyway?" Because permitting pets was far less believable than a prison officiated by celestial creatures, right? Ridiculousness aside, she shrank down with an expression that was simultaneously flustered and shifty upon taking in his questioning. "Prior to that, I had never taken care of a child before. Or myself, really. So when that child released me, and we had to fend for ourselves for a while..." It was terribly embarrassing to admit it. Brow furrowed and eye tightly shut, she blurted it out before she could second guess herself. "I burnt my hands so badly that he had to take care of me instead." Eye reopened and line of vision shifted to the side, the frustration present in her face changed to acceptance as she continued. "After our master's succession, Katakura made certain that my lack of skills was rectified. Cooking ended up being one of Master's hobbies so of course he agreed." She'd started to rub at the back of her hands alternately without really realizing, only stopping to explain why. "And he didn't hit me on the head. On the knuckles." Because that made it so much better. But with a lack of fear present in such a reaction, it seemed that she hadn't considered it an unfair punishment. "Whenever I was trifling around. Mostly when I tried to use magic for shortcuts." And apparently a deserved one, too. "Always 'Do as instructed, Suzu'~ 'Temperature doesn't work the way you're thinking it does, Suzu'~ 'Pouting won't get you out of trouble, Suzu!' Mrr~" The contrast between her imitation of a strict Japanese man and her cattish noises of irritation probably ended up humorous without any such intention. "I suppose I should be thankful. I'm so conditioned because of that I'm effectively offensively sealed when I'm out of my natural form." Though still looking quite indignant, she relented to at least somewhat of a smile. "I'd like to think that I'm able to blend in pretty well because of that. Well. As much as I was going to, anyway." A strange sort of human imitation but one that was pretty passable as far as she was concerned.
Oh, no yelling this time. Just lots of flailing. Reacting to being flirted with instead of simply ignoring her attempts as usual, too. Observing him with a great sense of amusement, she couldn't help but feel satisfied with herself. "Just saying~ I can eat a lot, but I take small bites. All of one bite is a very small sample for me, you know?" Apparently contented with how much she'd been able to unsettle him, she decided on a sweet approach that in the end probably wasn't much less unnerving. "I didn't mind at all. An unthinking action like that is quite a comfort level, isn't it?" Probably. But she didn't necessarily have to point it out so blatantly, all the while looking pleased with herself and the situation.
Instinctively she sat up from her relaxed position, instantly at attention at the mention of her name. Had he ever said the whole of her overly frilly name before? Regardless, she sat and listened attentively; grey hands apprehensively balled as they rested upon her covered legs. "So, that was why..." Some relief was audible in her quiet realization, but already she was taking the situation very seriously. Thoughtfully looking to the side for a moment, her eye was drawn back to him as her curiosity was piqued. "What kind of cycle do you mean?" Maybe it'd be another thing that went without explanation, but maybe not.
Eye averted and face beginning to show her level of disquiet, her hands were held more tightly as she struggled with her decision. "It is definitely selfish, but..." The trembling in her hands ceased as she faced him, expression fully reflecting her wholehearted fidelity for him. "I do. I want anything that you're willing to give me." No overstated intentions or flowery words. Simply what needed to be said, stated with both care and earnestness. "I'm willing to face any consequences if you are, of course." Her eye narrowed at the sight of the blue item, as she puzzled over just how it related to the subject at hand. "What is... what is this?"

"..." Best to keep that joke confined to the operating theatre. There was a time and place for dark humor, as well as a person to tell the joke without ruining the moment. All three conditions were certainly not fulfilled.
"Don't ask me. Something about rehabilitation, or I think that's what they said. It isn't for all inmates, though. Subjecting humans to my cell is already pushing it, let alone animals." If it was not death by hypothermia, it would be death by disease or poison. "They could not risk it, and looks like it is for the better." Than dragging in another hapless weapon into the fight, anyway.
He'd remember that little titbit. Perhaps to tease her with if they ever found themselves in a kitchen and in need of cooked food. What's to say that they could not whip something up togeth - hey. Enough of that. "And that is probably why one should not be cheating at everyday life with magic, eh?" How many times had he given that scolding before too? Someone who was used to multi-armed maneuvering was certainly not going to be using that to aid in cooking. Who would like a batch of freshly baked cookies, with a side dish of lethal poison?
Ah, the last question he expected her to ask. Or was it the first? She would probably have pressed him on it anyway, given her inquisitiveness. "As promised, I shall answer. It starts with getting close, then I end up disappointing them badly enough to drive us apart, some way or another." And he did not want to repeat that with her, of course. Running into the other three was already quite awkward, if not outright painful at times.
"This? It's something I've only seen him use once. You could call it one of his 'eyes', of sorts." Somehow, the household was just becoming more and more eye-ccentric by the tale. "An eye capable of recording and transmitting information, if it had been in a better state." Like any data could escape out of the crushed silver and tangled wires in that lump of blue. "I should have probably checked myself better before leaving the house. That also means he's probably..." His head snapped up, eyes alert and staring at the scene outside the window. A useless maneuver, but just something to quell that sinking paranoia. "... Not too far away. He has probably heard a good part of my visit, so I cannot be certain as to what he does not know. Given him though, it's only a matter of time before he gathers all the information he wants."
"But if that's the case," his eyes narrowing as he stared longer at the crushed bug, "then I do not have qualms going against his instruction." For such words brimming with anger, the odd frosty tone really was not a match.

A superficially dismayed Amarante flattened her cat ears at her past scoldings being brought into the present. "Haa~ Not you too!" And though the level of upset was negligible, of course she had further complaints to express. "And just how is it cheating if it's something that comes naturally to me? Mrr~" Somehow thinking over it made her irritation become affection, her body language betraying any dissatisfaction that her words attempted to express. "If I hadn't already changed, you'd have your way with little effort. Your will is one that's difficult to resist." She sighed, knowing very well that wasn't the only factor at play. "Though my personal bias may be involved with that."
'Disappointment' was quite the loaded word, as far as Amarante was concerned. In effect, it was the active application of one's own morals to someone else's situation, often without any consideration towards any extenuating circumstances that might be involved. With only that in mind it was still tempting to blindly chide that which she had no knowledge of, though ultimately she knew she'd accomplish exactly nothing with that effort. Instead, she chose to focus her efforts to try to assure him the best she could. "Well. You already know what would make me sad, so~" She tilted her head, softly smiling. "Less unpleasant surprises, that way?" It probably still wasn't fair of her to have made that emotional plea to him to begin with, but the bit of clarity it lent to the situation made her feel better about having done so.
"'Him'?" Too many possibilities and too many unknowns for her to be able to puzzle out properly, but one realization seemed obvious to her. "The same person as the rabbit." After some consideration, she relayed her observations with relative calmness. "Security-wise anything I've said should be safe. Even what I've just told you is more of an open secret than anything." Without a name even the key to her mortality lied safely within anonymity. "But..." Her composure had begun to unsettle, voice strained from a throat tightening with aggravation. "It doesn't mean that I'm fine with the invasion of our privacy." Previously she'd been left little choice but than to express her affections both incredibly obviously and publicly, so all sorts of people overhearing was just a tradeoff she had to deal with. And so far things in private hadn't differed much from those shenanigans. But it was the principle of the matter. She already had the possibility of one bodyless interloper to deal with regardless. The idea of anyone else purposely listening in on the progression of a situation she considered fragile to begin with was not one that she relished. She pulled at the bedding, as if covering her body a little more would make that feeling of violation go away.
Eye meeting his curiously, she actually hesitated for a moment before asking just what he'd meant. "What sort of instruction?" It definitely felt odd, asking questions and knowing the likelihood of getting an answer had increased considerably. The responsibility of it all!

"..." That look on his face pretty much showed her just how amused he was with the matter of magical shortcuts. "The consequences if it backfires would be a lot larger than if you had done said chores by hand. Who knows, a spell or two gone wrong, and you'd have a crispy black circle instead of a cake. Or the batter all over the wall instead of in a cake tin." Or poison in one batch and chilli in another. It worked, either way.
Oh, so he failed to mention a name. She got it right on the mark, as expected. "Correct." Off the top of his head, perhaps he could recite if verbatim? "A specific one to keep all contact with people outside of his knowledge to a bare minimum, and not to divulge his actions to others. That said, it also meant that I had to report to him about everything about you. Which you have my sincerest assurance that I have not, in fact, which is probably why this is here."
"But, as to the point of disappointing people, I believe there was another instruction regarding that." He had to take a breath before proceeding, mind still stuck as to whether he should give the more objective reason or - objective it is. "I am also not to have relationships with others beyond acquaintances. I believe you know the reason for that, now?" Partly, anyway. The inability to give his personal answer also came into play. Maybe that was why that instruction was there? Or was there another reason? Oh dear, a lot more questions arose, now that he was going to be breaking those rules. Only one thing to do now, right? Solve them all! And what's the way to solve them all?
"Interrogation." He stood up from the bed, staring intently at the door. "I've got to ask him so many things now." But save that until he left for downstairs, so sit back down and pat her on the hand, try to reassure her, unconsciously thinking that he was not doing a good job at it anyway if his own hands were so cold all of a sudden... "Thanks, Ama. This visit has really opened up my mind quite a bit!" And maybe taken a large hit to somewhere else, but that was not of his concern currently. Yet.

With a surprised squeak she'd gone back to pointlessly hiding within the bedding. Her thoughts on the matter had been correct. Definitely wasn't enjoyable being the target of his frosty wrath. Even if she deserved to be scolded and he was no less attractive to her by doing so. Better to admire his foxy fury when it was directed at someone else, though. "I already said that I don't do those things, even without your considerable influence!" Only after squeaking out the repetition of her excuse did the wheels in her head begin to turn, said head slowing peeking out with a knowing look. "Hnn. That almost sounds like a personal anecdote, there."
Most of the information provided about the other other guy was summarily taken in and pushed aside in favor of her sympathy for Erhard. "That sounds... so lonely." It just made her want to hug him more, really. Though she still resisted, balled hands pressed together as she looked on with concern. Her body stiffened with the mention of an interest in her person, what was still for the time being a cat tail comically becoming puffy in her state of alarm. "Wh-why me?" Bringing forth the tail to start smoothing it out and calming herself, she was further soothed by his assurance. "It's... it's nice to know that you haven't."
The next statement was one that she found perplexing. "Really? I mean, it always seemed like you had a lot of friends. Though, maybe not?" Thinking it over, maybe it had all been very much the same as with her. Well, she very much doubted that any of her contemporaries had been even close to being as persistent as she had been. Still. Perhaps the rest had all been relatively one-sided as well, with him keeping that distance as instructed. She was definitely looking humbled as the pieces fit themselves together rather neatly. "That probably answers 'why me,' doesn't it. Obliviously encouraging you to break all sorts of rules~" A resigned sigh expressed her feelings well, weighed down with a helpless feeling as her head hung a little. It seemed that she constantly ended up in such a role without even really trying. Determined to prove her mettle, she lifted her head with a renewed sense of resolution. "Even if I had known, I still probably would have told you." It was unsettling, knowing that she'd been putting more pressure on him than she'd ever want to simply unknowingly. But in return she was more than willing to bear whatever horrors she had to and suffer as necessary, said intentions expressed with one sharp truth. "No matter how many complications and restrictions are involved, you're irreplaceable to me." A totally irresponsible thing to say, more or less believe. But even if all along she'd known how perilous it was to get so attached, it hadn't prevented it from happening.
In typical cat fashion his hand was snatched up by two hands again. Just holding it, no matter how great the temptation was to be even more cat-like by going so far as to nuzzle it. No dissolving his resolve by unsettling him before he even really got started. "Oh, going to do that now?" No whining or childish pleas, just wide-eyed curiosity. Apparently spending most of the day with her was an acceptable amount of time, at least at this early point. She clutched his hand a little tighter, a worried look in her eye. "Please be careful, okay?" And of course, she couldn't send him off without a smile. "And thank you so much, for visiting me."

Sharp as usual. He did not even need to refer back to memory at all. "Not mine, really. Someone else trying to cook." Like he would be able use his (magic?) on cooking, but someone less experienced would try cutting corners at every turn, be it magic or not. "Her curiosity, wondering what I spend so much time in the kitchen for." Ah, wait. Probably not someone he should be talking about, even if he promised to speak up from now on. Oops. "But I'd be lying if I said I have never tried using shortcuts too. That ended badly." A technique to breeze through operations was not that applicable to the stove, unfortunately, where time runs differently for the appliances even in impatience.
"Being friends was probably the highest level of familiarity he would allow. Notice that?" That was probably only because of pity from that robot or something, probably. "But no one more important other than those that already are." Other than those purposely deciding to dig a little deeper than most, of course. "But don't feel bad about it for me. Please don't. Just take it as what you'd usually do, okay?" He was going to break a rule anyway, might as well break it all the way, the punishment (if any, none if he could help it) would be pretty much the same anyway. Can't help but admire her tenaciousness, though. Even if orders were not the only thing standing in the way between him and full acceptance.
"Hmm." Should he drop a rather selfish request now? It would be strangely out of place, but then again this was her place, so... "Say, do you mind? Coming down with me, that is. Want anything from the counter? But um... She might come back before you could get back, and then there's the scolding incoming. I'd be more worried about that than getting slammed around by some..." He left the noun to a wild gesturing of his free hand. Already the defiance was beginning to show very clearly, having been nearly broken completely by her. It was better than feeling cooped up, however. That was something he did not like having to deal with over and over. "Or I could go downstairs and get you something, if you'd rather not leave the bed."

"'Her'?" While of course the wording hadn't gone unnoticed, the idea of getting answers was so new to her that she was unlikely to notice a lack of one for a question presented so casually. "Being given a natural advantage should make an ancient practice go more smoothly, in theory." Seemed she was still frustrated with and thus distracted by that. "Aaa~ It just takes too long, sometimes!"
"Sympathy isn't pity." Said a person that mistook one for the other all the time. And seemed to have been hit by the sudden realization about that truth, blinking thoughtfully as she took it in. It certainly wouldn't cause a sharp change in her behavior. But taking into consideration that a few important elements of her way of thinking had already been altered beyond recognition in all of a few months, the start of a gradual change didn't seem entirely unlikely. Body shifting almost as if to accommodate change, perhaps words would help her shrug off some of that uncomfortable feeling. "It already seemed like there were a lot of sad truths about your situation. But why waste time feeling pity when there's the possibility of providing at least some comfort, and, as I said before, happiness. And my mind hasn't changed about that, so." As earnest and honest about her feelings as usual. And stubbornly so, as said statement had been presented as something she had decided long ago and that she seemed to feel that he should already be well aware of.
She was up within a moment of it being mentioned, now finding it difficult to sit still. "Of course I wouldn't mind." Oversized cardigan and slippers already on, the consequences only sank in after she sat back down on the bed for a moment. "It should be fine, as long as I don't actually leave. I mean..." Her expression was less than impressed, as she mulled over the precautions she knew and were likely in place. "Instructions were probably left downstairs, to that effect." Careful and clever one, that girl. Mentally putting that aside for the time being, with a calm smile she took up his hand again. At least for a moment. "Besides. 'Getting slammed around'? That will never do."

".... Siblings do tend to try and follow in their elders' footsteps." Carefully worded, not just because he was purposefully leaving out information, but treading carefully on figurative eggshells as well. It was going to be a bad end if he had to put Ama's willingness to follow through with instructions just when they were both about to leave.
Just like her. Okay then, if she was going to be so stubborn about it, he could not do much to help that, right? Might as well accept it. "Then thank you for that as well." Aww, so frostily sweet. Not something he was good at, and not something he should be saying with a straight face. Need to work on that.
"Um.... That's actually the best outcome I can see if an argument comes up. People can probably tell you how much of a temper he has." Can't tell if it was an amused huff or a fearful sigh. Both might be applicable. He led her off the bed and towards the door. "And wouldn't scoldings be more unbearable than physical punishment? Words do ring quite a while in ears even after they're said."

That red eye was definitely brimming with curiosity, but somehow she managed to keep it contained. At least for the moment. "I see." Maybe she could be nosy about his family another time, but when thus far the only mention had been in passing it seemed like a subject to be left alone. "I wouldn't know~" Not a bit of sadness to be found in that mention. Just the usual playful and lazy lilt her words often took. The possibility of having siblings would've altered the path her life had taken too greatly for her to entertain the idea too much. Basically the same as any other alternate reality scenario. Too wide of a scope to take in easily. Too much possibility of a 'better' life to not be heartbroken by the thought of it. She needlessly shook herself free of those thoughts by shaking her head, and proceeded to open the door.
It was a little strange to be thanked for such a thing, but it wasn't as if she minded much anyway. It was something to practically be ecstatic about, wasn't it? Being thanked instead of being ignored or glared at. Maybe that reality hadn't sunk in or she was simply exercising some level of caution instead of being too happy about things too soon. Despite knowing that she was in a precarious situation and not only willingly staying in it but seeking to further it, anyway. The quiet humming as she sauntered along indicated some level of happiness about it. And occasionally looking back to smile at him as they continued on their way. That too.
"Wh-why would that be the best outcome?" There was a feeling of uncertainty in the pit of her stomach as she pushed the button to call the elevator. "And scoldings and seeing you hurt aren't really comparable." With a resigned sigh she came to a decision. "I'll... I'll try to behave. Complaining won't help anything, no matter what's said to me. I... I haven't changed my mind about any of this, and I won't, but I can't help but feel a little uneasy with what you've said." With that she took him by the hand and pulled him into the elevator, not letting go until the floor had changed and the doors began to open again.

Somehow he found himself looking at the both of their hands locked together for the rest of the trip down. Hmm, there was still that slightly scared feeling from that, but a lot of that fear had since melted off thanks to defiance. Then all that was left was just the personal reason, then. To be honest, he found himself liking it a little. Social interactions much? To be looked into, then. Oh, shut up, he was not going further than that, not yet. Old men and their wanting to rush romances along.
"Well, you wouldn't need to see it, then. Even if he is waiting right outside the coffeehouse, I don't think anyone would have that little common sense to not cause a scene in public." Back on the ground floor, with the smell of coffee wafting from behind the counter. Mmmm.... Something cold, as usual, with lots of sugar. Miyabi might have told them about not letting Amarante behind the counter, so maybe less sugar than usual, then. "A takeaway for two, then? What would you - "
His words got cut short with a splash and a clatter of a cup bouncing along the floor, unerringly thrown by the person waiting for them at the table with a deadpan mutter of "There's your order."

She paced after him with quick steps. "That's..." Stopping for a moment, her face became flushed from being unable to keep herself from becoming flustered over what she interpreted as a lack of care for himself. "That's not the point!" With an exasperated sigh she conceded defeat, however; knowing that an attempt to reconcile their feelings on the matter would accomplish nothing. There were nicer things to be distracted by, anyway. 'For two'... ah, now she was getting caught up by simple semantics. At least it got her to stop nagging, tangled up in her random romantic mood. Oh, right, coffee. "Well, let's see. That is..."
All four ears were keen in picking up what Amarante interpreted as a random disturbance. Wasting coffee and causing disorder in her place of business? She was already raining down judgment on the unfortunate soul before she'd even turned on her heel to assess the situation. "Hey! What do you think you're--" Her eye went wide and she was suddenly shut up by a sight that wasn't unfamiliar, but definitely didn't belong where she was seeing it. Even so she stayed quiet, true to her word about behaving in her desire to not make things worse unintentionally.

"...." Nothing much else the doctor could do but wipe the cold coffee from his face, while his fluffy-haired opponent turned his wheelchair around to stare at him, then at Amarante, regarding them both with both contempt. Silence ensued for the rest of the staring match, only to be broken when Erhard bent down to pick up the cup and finally address that unruly roommate. "Is it possible if we take this outside? Throwing cups around is bad for her business."
"Oh, suddenly caring for 'her business' now, eh?" was the snappy reply that he got. "What, did you think, for a moment, that I did not notice? I thought you didn't do sappy, and now here you are, holding hands and everything! You, of all people, should know better than that!" And with a pointer finger shoved in his face, for good measure. "Do you have any idea how badly this is going to ruin everything?!"
The android's loud and ear-grating wrath had not run out of steam yet, though. "And you!" Immediately his head snaps to Amarante, unobscured blue optic absolutely livid. "Just who do you think you are, waltzing in and doing whatever you like with him? There's a very good reason why he's not interested in you, yet you are still so stubborn and blind! What do you have to say for yourself?!"
