The jabberjay was dead. Mostly dead, at least. Jay should not have made her way to this stupid event. This was an event held by that stupid group called DETH and while she barely knew about them, she knew enough to realize that what they represented did not coincide with the Clans’ ideology. Why did the warrior even bother showing up at the auditorium? This was supposed to be geared toward students, was it not? But she had seen a couple of horsemen head toward here and her curiosity got the best of her. Sea green eyes surveyed the spacious room. She examined the different stations and myriad of students, busy with making their so-called cookies in order to learn more about the holiday called “Christmas.”
She could have easily turned around and left the auditorium, gone off campus to return to the reserve, but the war horseman did not. Rather, she remained standing in her spot as she pondered. A part of her demanded that she leave now, while another part of her—perhaps the remnants of her old self—told her to try it out for a bit. It wouldn’t take too long. It would only be for a day. She could always leave if she really found it boring.
Tentatively, the warrior approached the first station and stared at the ingredients. A few students cautiously stepped away from her and she gave them cold stares in return before Jay grabbed a bowl.

Some students found it difficult to mix the ingredients into a satisfactory batter, but not Jay. She found it to be a simple enough task and in a few minutes the mixture was smooth. Jay laid it out on the tray so she could roll it out with a roller. It was such a peculiar task, making cookies. She had to wonder why she was still here making baked goods. It wasn’t even terrifying in the least. Her lips twisted into a frustrated frown as she tried to cut out her cookies with some stupid cookie cutter. It didn’t exactly work out.

As Jay stared at her pathetic attempt of a cookie, the bird eyed her cookie cutter and wondered if she could seriously injure a human with it. The edges seemed sharp enough. Maybe if she put enough force into it… Her eyes narrowed. Someone pushed her from behind, which reminded her that her cookies were still not done. She had to put them in the oven. Grumbling, she placed the tray into the machine and glared at the timer.

Gift wrapping? What was the point of wrapping this stupid gift? Wouldn’t it be better to just give it to the recipient as it was? The paper only hid the identity of the present. In the end, the paper would be torn away and thrown into the trash. It was hardly useful. Jay could not understand the traditions of Christmas and it was fortunate she didn’t try to make sense of it. She would only hurt her head.

She was still here. She was still here. Why was Jay still here? For some reason, the horseman felt compelled to attempt another batch of cookies, but unlike last time the batter did not come out as great. She could only glare at the other students as they continued to bump into her and steal her ingredients. She really had to wonder how they had the audacity to do such a thing.

Once the cookie cutter was back in her hands, Jay actually went about properly cutting out the cookies from the rolled out batter. It seemed that the idea of being able to use the cookie cutters as a means to hurt another creature pleased her quite much. It was odd, but whatever got those cookies cut, she supposed.

The time to push her tray into the oven had come. She slid the cookies into the machine and chose to walk away rather than stand around and wait for the timer to ring. While one would have thought that her cookies would have burned because of it, the bluejay actually came back in time to hear the signaling ring to pull out the tray.

Unfortunately, since she still failed to see the point of gift wrapping, her wrapping job was quite horrible.

It was becoming clear that she was starting to get really fed up with this event. Just one last batch and she would bail this place in favor of something more interesting.

Yeah, Jay wasn’t even trying at all. Not even the sharp edge of the cookie cutter could amuse her. Now the horseman was just going through the motions. Maybe she could ditch the place now….

Surprisingly, the warrior actually remembered to take her cookies out of the oven. They weren’t perfect, but they weren’t completely burnt.
