"alright then, well back to dinner. a little tensions shouldn't have ruined appetites. after all it wouldn't be a full day without tension from someplace. though usually it's from sevilin."
taking back to snacking on a few things here and there. though he kept his mental cues open for the inevitable command from his wife to come talk so she could yell at him without being in front of the family.

He couldn't help but chuckle. "I'd rather take table tension than Sevilin any day I would think." They still didn't see eye to eye but at least Sevilin didn't try to kill him anymore. Kinda missed the chase but hey, it was nice to not be on a hit list. Or at least a lot of them. But yes it was back to dinner for them all before the casual fall off from the table of elves that went to digest and relax.
However, Piper was quiet. After a bath for Savryn it was on to getting the little elf pretty much settled for the time being and the eventual falloff of one elf who was too ambtious for her own good. Despite all that had happened though, the child was as cuddly to her mother as ever. Piper hadn't been trying to take away what the girl wanted, just alter teh circumstances and thus she was still alright in the child's book. For the time being Savryn was left in the nursery with one of her books, the girl happily 'reading' in her own way for a while.
Piper headed to her bedroom and rummaged around in her closet for a moment before plopping down on the bed with a few fletching materials and taking to that activity, ignoring everyone else. Though she did keep her senses perked as always, just in case.

Malik went to see Piper, and leaned against the doorframe casually a moment.
"you don't fletch unless there's something troubling you. especially when you still have a quiver full of arrows. What's the matter?"

"Or maybe I just like to fletch? Any archer that's ever said 'hey I have enough arrows now just because my quiver is full' clearly is just playing at the craft rather than living it." Keeping her eyes on her hands as they worked with skill that was long perfected. Hm, she was going to have to get some more feathers soon. "Is there something you need?"

"For you to stop with the cold shoulder, that would be nice."
before walking over to her and sitting down by her.
"You know I'm not quite so good at this yet. So why don't you tell me what's really bothering you. I know you well enough to know that you wouldn't be sitting in here fletching with your parents here unless something was troubling you."

"I know only few other ways to get you to pay attention than to ignore you." But she let him sit down, making sure he didn't plop on any of her supplies that was. "Oh don't give me that. That's a poor excuse. We both fully know what you're capable of." Hell he had raised two boys and Savryn was hardly different. Girls only got hard when they turned into teenagers.
"You don't understand how she can be so self sufficent and yet dependant at the same time. And what you have her doing is dangerous in itself. You keep prodding her to do something and when she finds herself able to do it and please you, she endeavours to repeat at a greater level." Piper had tried to keep her nose out of this whole business but she couldn't when Savryn was more or less acting out with her new fun she had discovered. "Unfortunately that isn't well and good letting her do it by herself when no one is watching."
So admittedly, Piper was going to take advantage of the whole father daughter bonding over dead things thing at first. Have some time to herself without a little elf constantly around. Yet it seemed she was still having to keep tabs. "What happens when you prod her to make her own things? And then get better at it? Today it's a snake, what's it going to be tomorrow? Am I going to come home one day to find Keely shambling around?" Piper also has no disillusions about that girl. If Savryn could unknowingly force that sick feeling away Piper got from time to time, it only was a matter of time before harnessed and studied powers would allow the child to do greater things that she may not even see as wrong to do.
"Not to mention that last thing I want to think about is my children torturing animals becuse it's fun in some way for them."

"Prodigy child she may be but her abilities are much weaker then you think. the trick with the snake was a way yes to stave of decay, but it was by no means even close to golem craft. and She isn't the type to kill for fun or amusement. the only reason she had that snake was because bumbles brought it to her, and it was an unusual thing to her. had it been some little worm or something she knew of I doubt she would have even taken it from him."
"and yes, I know I kept track of the boys better. but I also didn't have to look at them and see my dying wife's face either. I didn't have to remember summoning power the like of which would probably have terrified you if you'd been concious enough to know it and it certainly frightened Zahara."
"I am trying to have some semblance of a relationship with my daughter, but I admit being as stoically closed to her as I have been has had a detrimental effect on the talents you know I have with the boys."

"And you underestimate her." Time grew all skills. In a year that child had mapped almost the entire house out by counting footsteps alone. When the girl applied herself, she applied herself without restraint. "No, but she would kill to learn." Which was why said child being unsupervised with free reign of her capabilities was worrying her. "And she's lucky it wasn't the type of snake to eat your face first and then inspect you later."
A crack sounded though as he touched on that ever so sensitive subject and she had snapped the shaft of the arrow she had been working on. "And I didn't have to look at them and remember raising them alone because I was the only one who wanted to." Piper had been yelled at and fought over many times by Malik and Zahara both for getting herself up out of bed to take care of that baby, unwilling to let her daugher die just because everyone else was focusing on Piper herself. Until Zahara's guilt got the better of her for a time and she helped out more.
Setting aside the broken arrow she sighed and ran a hand back through her hair. She didn't want to fight with him, or pass blame around and the like. Yes he was trying. It probably came off as her saying he wasn't trying hard enough. In reality he was trying, just in the wrong way. "You're a good father Malik. I know you are, and I know it's hard for you to be around her." She closed her eyes for a moment and shook her head, "She's so much like you...she closes herself off so easily, can go so cold over a slight to herself, and hate until she feels vindicated. She's just as wary of you as you are of her. Afraid to open up too much because of how much it may hurt to do so."
Another shake of her head. "I'm not asking you to bond with her Malik. Just to notice her and not be only her teacher. You wanted to prove Dhairiss wrong. I don't want her to be like you when you were young...doing nothing but striving to better yourself because it was expected of you and when you did right your life felt a little better for a while until more was expected you and that was all you lived for."

"she hasn't the power to kill yet. and honestly, what I can teach her about necromancy is parlor tricks. weak, feeble talents and traits that a true necromancer scoffs at. I know what I do seems like it's impressive. and some of it can be. but a fully fledged necromancer in that area puts me to shame. And once she can kill, once she has that kind of power, her training will reflect that. morality is taught after one is capable of abusing their power."
he gave a slight frown.
"why is it the one child most like me had to be the one child that goes through the most trauma. I'm trying to be more mindful. I'm trying hard to watch her and not remember, not recall that she nearly took you away from me. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. And Dhairiss is not her father. he shouldn't be raising her. that's my responsibility. How I grew up and how she's growing up should not be so similar that you fear her become what I was before I found you."

"You're still a teacher in that and other things. She certinaly didn't learn to be quiet and calculating from me." Some days she thought that if Piper didn't tell the girl that Malik was her father, she would never know. He had been a lot better with her lately but Piper was so used to being the main parent to the girl it was hard to step back too.
"She's daddy's little girl alright, she just doesn't know it." Irony probably fit in really well right here. But a little shake of her head to it all still. "No, I won't let her get that far. Like you, she has me to pull her back from things and remind her that there are things out there worth more than negativity. But I still worry...girls need their fathers. Just don't make it all about lessons all the time. Play, presents, a hug...that's all she really wants. Though I wouldn't go around water with her still."

"Hey now, you've had your times of quietly calculating. Usually involving wanting to get me to do something or doing something to me."
a small grin, before leaning over and kissing her softly.
"But I do understand and I will work harder on it. I promise."

"Which are positive things in the long run. I'm talking about the other quiet calculating mwaha bit." But again such arguments, if they could be called that, passed easier than usual. No longer screaming matches. "Yeah you better promise or I'm going to have to start being mean. Or abandoning you in the wildnerness for a few hours."

"Hey now, no need to get cruel with me."
tapping her nose lightly.
"Abandoning me in the wilderness. for shame. Then I'd have to find my way home and get there all dirty, and maybe wet, and probably not in a good mood. and hungry, which would make my mood worse."

"But I like it when you'er all dirty, maybe wet, and hungry. Those are a few of my favorite states of being. Your mood has never been an obstacle for me. I just turn my eyes like this at you so that spark of gold goes off, tilt my head up just ever so slightly, reach a hand up and brush the back of my fingers against your jaw and back to your ears," she was of course making all these motions in demonstration as she went with that teasing tone to her voice as well, "and you'd ungrit your teeth and let out that angry breath that you had been holding in, preparing to tirade about throwing you out into the wilderness and how wrong and so very naughty of me to do. Then you'd smile ever so slightly and your eyes would melt to silver and you'd only forgive me."

a slight smirk though his eyes did go to silver at the brushing on his ear.
"Am I really that predictable? I might have to stay angry one time just because. but then again you have had quite a long time to perfect your getting out of trouble technique."
