"Bumbles falls into that category I do believe. No, I don't count it as entirely dead. It eats and such." Which was still too alive and yet too dead for him to like the thing. That and it irritated Yinn...who had a few times 'killed' the smaller draithix already that kept coming back much to the creature's annoyance. "Isn't the point that she knows where she's supposed to be and not supposed to be? Last I checked any part of the downstairs downstairs is not a place to play."
"He likes the sand." The answer probably could have easily been called diversion...and yet the sweet innocent way she said it made it seem like it was the truth. There was something thrilling about this new thing. This thing called lying. Why the sudden urges to lie? The independence. The things that others may take away from her for 'being bad'. Even if lying was bad itself. She wasn't the liar in the family. Dhairiss was quicker to make up a story. But well...she knew they had placed limitations and her mind wanted to stretch beyond that. But lessons came with pace and she was not really willing to wait, even if she should. For her it was more about doing a lot of little low power things than only a handful of powerful ones like everyone else seemed to be following the lesson plan of. Of course...she didn't know what would happen if she got caught and sometimes daddy was really good at catching lies. Maybe he'd believe her too.

Malik got a hint of a grin.
"So she hid what she was doing from you as well. I had hoped she'd be a little less quick with you. and it wasn't bumbles. something smaller, something wounded."

Well gee, that didn't last long. Which meant back to a huffy look for her. However she wa pretty sure she was getting looks from others at the table of questioning nature but she merely let her look pass to a little bit prideful. "I was playing." And took to finishing what she hadn't eaten earlier. That was her answer and she was sticking to it.
Malikhai gave a frustrated noise before a shake of his head. That was exactly why he made her wash her hands as she wasn't wearing gloves. "I really don't think it's healthy for a nine year old to be self suppling. Do you?" His father was being rather lax about this necromancer things...but the reality was still there that bad things could really happen.

"At nine years old students in Neriak were killing other children and slaves for their studies. So no, her playing with wounded animals to further her studies on her own does not alarm me."
Glancing at his daughter.
"My concern is the nature of the animal being toyed with. sometimes the smallest creatures are the most dangerous, because of their size."

"And we aren't in Neriak. Not to mention that I'm having a problem with the playing with wounded animals part." Okay so not the best thing to say in front of her. Granted she understood how the whole necromancy thing meant not the best ways to practice it. Playing with wounded animals however was very close to torturing small animals. Torture was of course different from study. At least in her book and with animals.
Despite the veiled perhaps compliment Malik was making about hsi daughter. Small things could indeed be most dangerous. Especially wounded small things. But she turned her attention to their daughter as the girl clearly was trying to play not being caught in a lie...or at the very least not being completely honest. "Savryn, what do you have?"
And mama was not happy...but at the same time she was getting the wrong impression here. "Bumbles found it outside. He was trying to eat it but it really doesn't to be eaten." And Bumbles brought everything back to her that he found usually. Not that she really knew what she had...snakes and their like kin was not a common come across creature for her. "It looks special." Another vague statement from the child...because 'looking special' to her meant entirely different things than normal. What was it though? "It's got no legs and moves like this?" Tracing a finger on the table in the commonplace s pattern of such creatures.
"That draithix is more trouble than it's worth somedays." Shaking his head to that...though what the hell did special mean and how the hell did his sister not get bitten by yet? Those were nasty down here.

Malik watched and raised an eyebrow.
"Does it make any particular noise? does it try to bite, or lash out in any particular manner? And I'd rather Bumbles find them then her finding them first when they can strike unawares."
after all that could be a worm, it could be a snake, or a myraid of other creatures.

"It hisses when you shake it in a jar and it bonks against things really hard." Of course Bumbles innate need to try and keep her safe was the factor that gave her less information to hand over herself. "It makes Bumbles squeak."
Hissing and no legs was enough for her and Piper shook her head, setting her fork down. As if she didn't worry enough already about it all but now she had more factors than just training mishaps and such. Malik was supposed to watch her...that included when not training but things were related to it. Her getting hold of things was not watching. "Is it still downstairs?" A nod from the child and Malik got one of those pointed looks. "Well? Go take care of it."

Malik chuckled lightly and shook his head before getting himself up and mussing piper's hair.
"I can't watch her all the time...even I am not all present."
but down to the arena with him, and looking in the sand...hands in his pockets. yes it was dying...and trying to find a safe place to hide.
Malik zapped it dead with a lifetap, killing it and then dug into the dirt and picked it up...before caring it back upstairs and putting it in a jar and handing it over to his daughter.
"that would be a snake. a non-deadly snake, but a snake. the bashing you were sensing was him trying to bite you. the lunge forward, mouths open and latch on."
before resuming his seat.

"Funny. When it's my responsibility, I manage to." Okay so she couldn't help the bite back on the comment. He wanted the girl to do this and it was in practice different from a lot of other things. If Piper could watch that girl as much as she had before all of this, he could endeavour a little more effort. So yes...some days it got to her.
Another sigh adn she pushed her plate away in signal that she was done and turned her attention to her daughter, taking her chin in her hand to make sure she was paying attention. "No more animals, or other living things being caught or brought into this house if you're intending to just use them as slow study fodder because they are hurt and dying. That's not fair to them to make them suffer. Understand me?" A little nod and she let the girl go, turning a look to Malik as he handed over the jar with the snake in it to Savryn.
Letting her keep her prize. Though now that it was dead...well it was find study use she supposed. Undead and skeletal things didn't mind. "And snakes are usually not nice. So don't play with those either." Maybe in time, since necromancers dealt with poison, she could tell which snakes were dangerous but right now that was beyond her.
And quiet was present at the table fore a moment as she held her jar, inspecting it. It didn't look special like it had before and it wasn't making noise. No blippy light either...which meant it was dead and she bravely broke the silence. "Can I keep it?"

"Yes I know you do, but I'm not that good yet. I'll work more on it."
before watching his daughter and wife talk, and nodding to her.
"yes you can keep it. remember you can use it as a pet, and it will act in manner similar to it's actions in life, simply be docile to you. remember also the freshly dead don't become skeletons either."

"Yes, you should." Generating awkward tension at the dinner table yes but Piper was never really one to keep her mouth shut and be all compliant like on some subjects. "Well if she's keeping it then you need to get someone to do something with it. Either do whatever it is you do with it to keep it looking like that, or take it down to bones quick." She was not going to have a rotting snake in a jar that could be opened in her house. No, was not happening. Savryn may want to pick and choose her materials, but that didn't mean she knew what to do with them when she got them, or how for that matter.

Improptu lesson at the table time? well Kieran would get a kick out of it. and probably already was.
"Alright Savyrn. Make it a pet, you know how to do that. but this time, give it more power...put more into it...you'll feel it, like when your fingers get numb. when you get that feeling, you've put enough in to keep it fleshy. and remember the larger the creature, the more you have to pour in. which is why big things like flesh golems are usually communal work."

He was really testing her today wasn't he? Well then time to tell her own lesson. Taking the jar from, her daughter in one hand and the little elf's hand in the other she got them both up from the table. The jar was plopped down on the table in front of where Malik was sitting. "She can do that when you can learn to do what you need to as well." Pulling Savryn off with her as she left the dinning room.
Malik didn't get it because he didn't spend as much time with the girl. Savryn was ambitious despite her shortcomings. If he let her do such things as wanted at her own will and outside of proper study...who knew what, or who for that matter, the girl would then start practicing on. "And you are getting a bath my dear. You're covered in dirt."
One could say that he was indeed quite intrigued to see such a thing happen but apparently someone else still wasn't happy with how things were and was making a point about it. "Probably better to not have dead things at the table. At least, dead things you can't eat right then at least." Tension breaker as usual.

He drummed his fingers on top of the jar a moment before having it placed off to the side. Probably half the problem was yes he hadn't spent as much time with her, the other half being that such things were so long ingrained as common enough that it really hadn't crossed his mind that she might attempt further studies on her own and more advanced.
"True enough. although, technically, that snake is edible. a little rubbery in the texture but you can eat them."

"Alright then, dead things that would probably be better off cooked before eaten. That and you know how little elves have thier hands all over eveyrthing. Better to burn the germs off." But he gave a little shrug as he had leaned back in his chair watching everything despite tension.
