"Some planes are less stable than others. From the stories you've told me, from the things we've both read about this place before you came to it, it's a safe assumption to make. It's not terribly uncommon." Despite how the pair had made this quite a home for themselves, there were things indeed beyond their control.
But he sighed. "I know. I'm pretty much in the thick of it as well due to the Peninsula being on my land. Fianna worries more about it everytime a new report comes in. Tyyrael is yes trying to underhandedly push things to a new level but we all know it won't be simple. Luckily Mahlari has remained in the dark about it...she's too busy quarreling with her sister these days. I think you're going to be right in this case. The moment she catches on she's going to strike. Even Brigade can't be prepared for everything. I dislike having to make a makeshift army behind closed doors in the event that I have to defend myself. It doesn't cast me in quite a trusting light to the other nations as they wouldn't know the true reason for me doing such things. They'd just see an army."
"However it's just not Daimos taking a fall." With all his spouting of change, even he was a tad uncomfortable with the way things had been going lately. "With Lharika marrying Glynnic the whole of the established ruling system is twisting. There's been quite the opposition on it, but also equal if not greater support. The old ways of ruling things are dying in a way. Another thing Tyyrael is trying to shuffle between his hands without causing too much public notice."

"I'd heard your council meetings are much more frequent but that was all I'd heard regarding a change in the ruling structures. but lets head up to the lounge ans we can discuss things more comfortably."
picking up his daughter and leading them both out and upstairs.
"Hence though my development of a greater standing army. I can, and will defend family even across planes and even if it means breaking the brigade masters rules. if I feel a need to send an army to Andal, then I will. by any means I feel are warrented."

"They are. More private and less grand affairs though. "Between us all we seem to be reaching a compromise on what would be best for everything to work out. But nothing's final. After all, we may be happy with a solution but it's not about us, it's about the people we play guardians to."
But a nod and he followed Malik upstairs, though he did pinch the bridge of his nose in his own stress over the matter. "Yes, I understand that...but it's still a bad implication and tactic on my part. Whether you're involved or not. No one nation has an organized army or sorts. Arch Batallion is as close as it comes but even they aren't recognized as such. I'm on my toes more often than not. I don't need an accusation thrown my way that I'm looking to take over Arch territory both internally with a marriage and externally with an army."
He gave a dismissive wave at that though. "But I'm not going to let things get out of my hands long as I have the power to protect what I need to. And yes that would include you if needed and I wouldn't think twice about it. Consequences be damned sometimes. That...and the way things are I don't think Tyyrael would begrude any of us, nor punish for it all."
And we were going someplace. As per her usual habits with such things she didn't squirm and the like as he carried her, merely being still and letting him take here wherever the destination was. Besides, it gave her another chance to practice sensing where she was without having to touch things or count her steps to compare to her mental numerical maps in her head. But the conversation had changed to things she wasn't quite sure she followed. Granted, she knew little of Andal. She'd never been there. But her attention seemed to flicker off to something else and she took to superficially staring in that direction, ears twitching lightly.

Malik did notice his daughter's shift in attention.
"what is it?"
stopping a moment to see what his daughter might be sensing and what she might perceive.
"a kingdom without a standing army is asking to be burned to the ground. while your brigade has played planar army till now, things are going to turn nasty if war breaks out. and Brigade can't be everywhere.

"And I don't enjoy the thought of being burned to the ground. It's not a pretty picture. Tyyrael is not ignorant however and I'm not going to be a sitting duck. My father always told me that I had a knack for controversal things. He was absolutely right." Rest the man's soul...still stung some days.
"Tingly feelin'." As vague as that was, she wasn't sure why she was paying attention, only that she was. However what seemed to hold her attention was broken by giggles. "Mama's home." Not that it connected to what preoccupied her earlier.
"Malik! Fianna ruined my hair!" It was annouced in loud sing song manner, as she was obviously tormenting her mother.
"Don't say lies like that...it's bad enough we both smell and look like the bog we crawled out of..." She was still getting that crawly feeling and checking her ears.
"Embrace it mother. That's how we survivw down here. We embrace the nasty things. If you knew half the things I've eaten or the like you'd -"
"Just stop. You win. I am thoroughly disgusted."
"And you're slimey and wet."
"As are you. I'm still your mother. Don't make me take you out of the world I brought you into."

"Good..."
before the sing songy shouting. ruined her hair? oh dear gods of the pantheon what had they gotten themselves into. So off they went in that direction until he came across two soaked, slimey, women elves in torn clothes though at least those weren't nearly so bad.
"Okay, whose idea was it to go swimming, and whose idea was it to do some climbing? and why are you both flushed, and why in Innoruuk's cauldron did you go trapeezing with your mother into the Underfoot without even so much as a whip?"
looking at them both like a scolding parent.

Kieran really tried not to laugh but he really couldn't help himself. It was just too amusing to see Fianna in the state she was in and pouting at the same time about it. Though the glare he got from the women did reduce him to a polite volume of said laughter. "You really get yourself into more trouble than you're asking for, don't you dearest?"
"I don't know it's kind of a nice shade of scumy brown don't you think?" Oh yes she was playing it up just to have the upper hand here and again for the sheer amusement. "And mother, you now owe me a bag of cinnamon sticks. I told you he'd scold."
"Shut up Kieran. And Malik, we didn't go swimming. Well...not on purpose. We just happened to not look before leaping, literally, and well...there was a nasty hole of water to break our fall."
"More accurately her plan of 'let's go play' turned into 'let's go home now because this is a bad idea'. We poked things we shouldn't poke, climbed things you'd chop down, I think I broke something at one point, and running across the underdark always ends in tumbling down inclines unless you're born here." She was chipper at least, though yes a little flushed and pale looking at the same time. "As for the last part...um...I have no excuse for that. I won't lie. I blame her. She ambushed me." And prettily batting her eyes at him.
"We weren't intending to wander far. And then we did. Accidently."
"I think accidently on purpose. Her idea." Jerking a thumb at her mother, whom scowled back and Piper merely grinned. The light headed feeling was enthralling in a good way right now. Though a look to them. Hm, Kieran and Malik together was usually meaning they had their own trouble brewing but they had Savryn as well.

He looked between both women and set Savyrn on the ground, and ran his hand through his hair lightly.
"Okay. First. you never, ever, under any circumstances go out wandering without weapons. and rune magic doesn't count there are plenty of things that can bite your hands off before your fingers work. Second. poking underdark animals is a good way to get hurt. that part goes for both of you since I know the Fier'dal in you loves to prod at creatures like your youngest son. Third..your dripping on the floor. both of downstairs to the spas and get yourselves cleaned up and I am sending in the cleric to tend to any of your injuries and I don't want to hear one word about it."
looking at Piper squarely at that.

Much like a child while he was lecturing she pointed at her mother in accusation and redirection. Sure, Piper knew better than to play without being prepared for things that may interrupt that but she wasn't going to take al the blame either. Though she did look down at the puddle they were making and she had to have herself a light laugh. Usually she was the one saying that. But she quietly waited until he was finished before she pointed to Kieran. "That's my father. Not you. Come on mother, before was drip more." Leading the woman off then.
Kieran blinked lightly. Well, that was obvious wasn't it. But he merely shurgged on it all and had another laugh as Piper lead Fianna off who was still pouting and checking her ears. Though his attention turned down to Savryn whom had scooted over to him and took hold of his sleeve, half scooting more behind him. Probably reacting to Malik's irritation. They all knew that these two were precise around one another and that the girl knew she set him off easily. Not that she understood the why too much or if it was even her fault. "At least they had fun? Until the water part I guess."

"yes they had their fun. I'm more concerned with scrapes getting that water and who know what in it in them. the last thing we need is one of them getting sick from their little outting. Especially Fianna."
before giving the orders to have everything cleaned up and have a meal ready for when the ladies were out of the spas.
"so tell me about this shift in the ruling aspects of Andal."

"Ever seen a rune mage purge the sickness from their bodies? They don't like to do it but they can. Very violent process really. Not pleasant to watch." But a pat to Savryn's head and he nodded lightly at the request for information. "Basically it's breaking down to where it's going to be impossible to run the whole sepearte but together thing. For thousands of years it's been the x race rules the x race. It's a fine ideal until branching out occurs. Which is has. You can't expect x to rule x anymore. Either the monarchy is going to dissolve into pure tribunal with royals taking a more ambassador role per nation or per aspect such as trade and what not, or...something else we've not agreed on. All in all, the whole traditional system is breaking. Some days I like to blame myself for that as I've had a hand in it. It make me laugh."

"Have you given thought to the idea of stewardships or the idea of royal marrying outside their race simply giving up their spots on the throne, provided another is capable of taking on the job?"
settling in a seat with a glass of wine, and giving a slight grin to Kieran.
"You might enjoy taking the credit for the bringing down of the status quo, and where there is turmoil, there is opportunity. you talked about making an army behind closed doors. your daughter's marriage to Glynnic gives you a reason to have such a force, your political reason being now that you are closer to the Arch, that you have come to notice the added benefits of their own standing military and decided to adopt the policy for yourself as well."

"I'll give you that you know how to twist words to make a situation better for yourself. You've always been good at that though. Though I really don't relish owning, running, or making armies. Too much structure and the like for myself to deal with." His attention again turning to his granddaughter as she was rifling his pockets and pulled out a small bag, holding it up to him with a little tilt of his head. "Yes, you can have those." Grinning to her own smile before he turned his attention back to Malik. "The problem with just passing along thrones like that is that eventually it's going to hit the wrong people who take things for the wrong reasons. Which is why Tyyrael has been pushing us to consider the alternatives. Stewardship, or something akin to it is probably going to be the best route. If such thing occurs though, I imaine that the current rulers will take those position for however much time is decided."
He gave a laugh though. "Hey, the bright side is that I can get married sooner. Fair trade off for me. And no more getting pinned with an arrow for bothering about the subject. Unless I really deserve it for something else I assume."

"Lateef or Isle would be better suited to playing with the military...as for people grabbing things for the wrong reasons. those problems tend to work themselves out over time. people won't abide rulers to long that do things for their own interests...unless said ruler is willing to use the means of enforcement that facilitate it. which your brigade won't allow."
a slight grin.
"Rulership through fear, force, or outright power is the only way to rule as I do...or Mahlari does. it is a reason I am constantly working to improve our powerbase here, and facilitate the creation of new types of creatures bred for war. keep my enemies from being able to outdo me. financially my empire is the wealthiest next to the old Drow empire...and maybe the pirates. militarily, I'm the top dog. that allows my rule within my boarders to be unquestioned because they know that I can simply throw them out to less pleasant circumstances."
a slight raise of his eyebrow.
"and what is in the bag you just handed off?"

"Yes but I'm sure we'd all rather avoid the whole affair if we can. If a true war could ever get off the ground what with the trade system as it is. No one nation has enough resources to make such a strike. Not unless they've been hoarding."
Kieran had to have a laugh though. "Yes but unlike Mahlari, and despite your ruling tactics, there are people who genuinely like you and the way you do things. People seem pretty happy here under your rule, if anything. Then again, when all people ask for is food, shelter, and protection and you provide these things there is really no reason for them to dislike you."
Another look to Savryn who now had said bag open and was poking through it's contents. Hm, could she pick out the differences and was looking for favored ones? "Just terra bud drops. Last time I was here I gave her some and well, she apparently loves them. I figure since she only has then when I'm here, might as well let her have them all. They won't do anything to her, save for maybe make her a little bouncy. She was fine last time."
