"the alternative is we have her use her most potent spells, over and over again, until her mind and body become physically exhausted and then force her to push past it for the same result. It's slower, repetative. The Room gives her new puzzles to focus on with the layered puzzlebox effect...the pressures work in similar manner to her constantly using her most potent spells. it's a shorter length to the same basic result. and keep her mind more engaged."
Yes, she knew about the lady of the house appointing the eldest son the 'moderator' because they all knew malik would choose the quicker paths to grant his daughter greater power for her own protection. But she also didn't want the younger d'vinn to prolong things, since it was no secret that while Malik had taken greater interest in his daughter, that interest was still mostly centered on her necromantic studies. and she wasn't about to be saddled with extra work as part of a social ploy to get father and daughter closer.

Walking over he plopped a hand on his sister's head in commong soothing gesture to her new huffy look at being more or less ignored. Though granted his sister had a point in her own mind, she probably didn't understand that being down here wasn't bad if it was a controlled thing. It particularly annoyed him how unenthused these people were...maybe they had always been that way. He'd been too busy getting the snot beat out of him to know or not.
But he was rolling it all around in his head, perhaps acting a bit impromptu father to his sister. Her doing this Room thing had it's advantages after all. He could see that well enough. "Fair enough. I won't cause an issue about it unless it bothers her beyond the commong annoyances any student faces."
"That is what we call a hole in the ground."
"Don't get smart with me."
"A very large hole in the ground at that." Said as she was leaning over said hole in the ground that was more of a rift from shelves of rock colliding probably from the latest earthquake. "Been having quakes lately. Not sure if they're natural or if something else is causing them."
"Let me guess, you're leaning towards the something else."
"Naturally." They had again moved off to gallavant about the underdark some more after they were allowed down from their tree post by what had been chasing them earlier. "I'm not quite sure how we could tell them apart though."
"You make things far too difficult. If you just listened I'm sure you could tell."
"Simple to say, not so simple to do in the midst of."

"Good. then we'll start her on that tomorrow, as she did exceedingly well on her response exercises. And don't forget to retrieve your bone pieces. those are valuable to have and we wouldn't want to have the effort in getting a bat wasted, now would we. If you do well in the room as you have here, we'll work with a little more recently deceased, and maybe start to work on conjuring forth the unliving as a whole. your studies are progressing very well indeed."
Yes giving praise were it was due. she was doing an wonderful job of picking things up.
"May I suggest, however, the use of gloves. while necromancers do have dominion over poison and disease to a degree, neither are very pleasant nor are the methods of absolving them in a body. always better to err on the side of caution in that case."
Malik gave a slight grin, and took his hand on Malvolence. better to get her teacher to suggest it this time though he had mentioned it and got fought on about it. maybe a different authority might prove better suited.
"Now comes the fun part of getting to tell your mother how wonderful a job your doing, once we find wherever she and your grandmother have hidden themselves away at."

That's cheating. Engaging his telepathy with a look over to his father rather than say something. Cheating yes, but very crafty and resourceful as well. Malik had never lacked ingenuity before and now was not an exception either. It was however a really good idea. Girl was stubborn when she thought she had right to be.
Not that she totally understood the concept of this all in it's deeper entirety but she smiled anyway from praise and titled her head as she listened to what else was said all the while she was picking up her little bone pieces and stashing them in a pocket. If it wasn't for her ears twitching one would assume she wasn't paying attention at all. The idea of gloves however got a little frown. She'd been through this before, she didn't like gloves. She couldn't feel things through gloves like they were supposed to be felt. It made her jumpy. At the same time she had already learned that 'suggest' when said by her teacher meant 'you better show up to your lessons with whatever I've asked for'. Thus an acknowledging noise from her, there would be more fight and fuss about it later, and she wandered over to her father and grandfather with her brother trailing her.
Kieran took the smart route, just sitting there with his arms crossed and chuckling lightly. He for one, was looking forward to the whole gloves battle that would ensue. "I believe she and Fianna went out to...gallivant...I suppose you could call it. Good for the both of them. I find it frankly very amusing that Fianna will easily take to playing in the underdark...when there's someone around who knows a bit about it. I'd say Piper's been down here long enough to count. Hopefully they haven't tumbled into a large hole or something of that nature. I think they're also plotting on us about something. I'm not quite sure. I just know they're being giggly. And not the hot and flushed kind of giggly. Which usually means trouble."

a slight grin at his oldest.
"Using your resources at their fullest potential is not cheating."
before giving a frown at Kieran.
"That means their out doing something probably stupid and dangerous. I swear that woman..."
shaking his head lightly.
"Well unless we want to try adn track them down, I suppose we'll just have to wait for them to show up and hope they aren't injuried or in clothes that are completely destroyed. Though I suppose while they are out, I can show you those notes on the lycanthropy project and see if you can think of something I might have overlooked."

"You using your resources for what she's supposed to be doing anyway, is cheating." But a dismissive motion about it and he took himself off, seeing as lessons were done and his sister had become quite interested in her grandfather. "I'm not babysitting. Good luck with that." Making his escape indeed.
Interesting indeed. Kieran usually had something on a belt or pockets or some decoration to his clothing that usually caught the little elf's attention and like a good sport he let her paw and figure as she pleased. Apparently they were babysitting. "Believe me I know how to feel. I used to worry over Fianna's antics all the time. Granted, the dangers can be greater here, but worrying won't get be anywhere. Besides, Fianna is convinced that you're coddling Piper too much when it comes to her health. Ask any wood elf and they'll tell you a good cure comes in the form of a good run around to get the blood going."
Though he did roll his eyes at that one. Wood elves, so flighty and full of unreasonable fancy from time to time. But a grin, "I'm an expert at tracking such creatures if you'd indeed like to take a ramble." A chuckle however, "Fianna would never run around the underdark naked. I know that much. Piper I can't say but I know Fianna wouldn't." But Malik always had something that made Kieran grin like a child. "You know I'm more than willing to take a look.
A tug at her grandfather's tunic however to their discussion. "What's lycanthropy?"
Despite the being in a pile of each other, breathing hard, and a few pained noises the two women were trying to stifle giggles. A poke into things too much, a short run, and a drop off a less than stable slope found them this way. "See...things like that happen." She was still trying to catch her breath though.
Sitting up and shaking her heard she brushed the back of her head over her cheek to remove dirt and probably a little blood. "Okay...do you were right about that one."
"I think I broke something."
"Oh no you didn't. I'm very sure that you're as tough as mithril by now."
Piper rolled her eyes before flopping back against the dirt and rocks that was around them. "I think I'm done playing now. You've worn me out. And we can't go back too mangled."
"You're not worn out. You just don't want to be lectured." She more or less lounged back casually with a scheming look on her face. "And who said I'm not making the men come fetch us?"
"You really don't want to make Malik do that. Amusing as it can be." She got herself up, still trying to catch her breath some. "Surrender woman."
"Only if you win our next game."

"Lycanthropy is a magically created disease. on Norrath, it's creator was Mayong Mistmoore. what it does is at the full moon, the infected creature, be it elf, man, dwarf, gnome...becomes a werewolf. after that first full moon, they stay in that form indefinately."
walking with Kieran and his daughter from teh arena area towards the study where he kept his notes on his various attempts at recreating the lycanthropy virus.
"They become stronger, faster, far more deadly...but lose most of their intellect outside of basic animal needs. my experiments have been on trying to create a version that keeps the intellect of the host..so that they might make powerful soldiers or protectors. the Ogres and Droag are indeed powerful and potent, but the ogres are more of brute force and the droag while they possess the gift of flight, I find the dark is a signifigant drawback. they obviously weren't meant to be in underground situations."
"A werewolf has excellent night vision and sens eof hearing and smell, like any wild canine. thus they make fast effective killers and soldiers that can provide fast moving infantry or surgical strikes."
Making it to the study and pulling down the notebook detailing the attempts and failures and such in hand and setting it on the table.

Taking his granddaugher's hand he followed Malik with her in tow as father explained to daughter in un-sugar coated manner. "An interesting tactic to use yes. From all I've ever heard on such creatures though no one really has been able to spare them their intelligence loss. Sure, a well trained canine is a wonderful guardian but he does not have the ability to reason and adapt to a situation. Just bite and claw harder."
Savryn however let go of Kieran at the door of her father's study. She knew the room and she didn't go into it. It had been an off limits area for years now and she didn't forget that. Thusly she stood obediantly just before the doorway in the hall with her hands clasped behind her back to keep them still, merely listening.
He gave a brief look back to Savryn before looking to the notes that were being laid out on the desk. "Let's see here. Have you tried different levels of infection? It's the disease the bestows the so called power and yet at the same time destroys the brain in it's own way. My first instinct would be to try to control and balance that."

a glance over at his daughter.
"you can come in Savyrn."
before back to his notes.
"We tried with lessening the infection or the rate at which it transforms it's host...the results were...unsightly, would be the nicest way to put it. kinda thing that would probably make our wives have nightmares and they'd for sure lose the contents of their stomachs."
pushing over a log of those particular attempts that had, of course descriptions of the results since it was a laboratory type environment.
"It seems like the best way to do this is some method of either making a potential subject hyper intelligent so the disease reduces them to a normal intellect or working the disease itself somehow into a form that doesn't eat the mind, while still having it's most potent effect on the body."

She was hesitant despite being told she didn't have to stand outside the door like a dog that wasn't allowed into the house because it had muddy paws. This room held a memory after all and she was lacking the security of her mother being there in this room. However she did step into the room a few steps, taps on her shoes clicking softly with the hesitant steps. Superficially she looked around the room, probably trying to pick out more of things with magical signatures than just looking. No immediate things near her and she made her was over to the two, standing close to and pracitcially leaning on whomever was standing still. "Who are you making sick?" Despite it all though...she was finding herself intrigued by the conversation.
"If you're using the word unsightly I can only imagine. Especially with Piper's high threshold before she does such things." He flipped through pages however, scanning through them and indeed there were some gruesome things. Most would probably be offset by this all but as usual Kieran was fascinated in his own way. "The problem with cultivating such intelligence is the inherent mutiny factor. Even dumbed down to average intelligence they would still have the ability to bear grudge. I think your plan B is the best way. Or maybe have you tried mixing the virus with something else? Create a counter balance of sorts."

"People that are without a use. thieves, beggars, weaklings that have proven to have no other viable use to the House. You should remember that. a House is only as strong as it's weakest members. so to make a strong House, you need strong, viable members. either in magic, physical, or both."
patting her head lightly.
"We've tried some basic curatives for similar mental effecting poisons but so far the disease strain just seems to plow through them. we tried weakening the disease itself, but that in turn created many of the less gruesome transfigurations but they died horribly...usually at the hands of other fully infected. like pack animals they tore apart the weaker ones."

"I'm not the worst." A simple stated fact from the child who was constantly striving these days to show ability and promise. She may be the runt of the litter, so to speak, but according to her father's definition of those useful to the House she was by no means the worse because she was exempt from such experiments. It should cross her mind that as his child she got a free pass regardless of what was between them, but it didn't. Just that she was not the bottom wrung of the ladder. And head pats were happy things too that caused smiles and she let herself lean against Malik's hip for the time being in security. "What happens when you run out?" Another quirk to her that she didn't share with her brothers...they shyed away from such topics while she kept questioning. She may not understand it all, but she tried. "When mama is sick she can be better without being all better. Sometimes that's better than being all better. Can't you make them sick and then almost better but not better?" And she was trying to contribute in some way. Be it for attention or interest.
"Hm. Such diseases are hard to control and brutal indeed." Though he did have a chuckle as Savryn tried to get into the conversation as well in what ways she understood. "A simmering state of infection without a total blown case. It's an interesting thought." Especially from a child. But again his pondering look and he titled his head some as if it would help him think. "Have you tried going about it backwards? Take a canine, train it as needed and then try to instill some anthropomorphic flux on them?"

"Interesting idea. there are vaccines and antidotes made for the Lycanthropy virus...Koada'Dal fashioned them first, as they were the ones that felt the brunt of it's introduction. but when it became further spread the curing agents did as well. it's possible I might be able to get my hands on some, and dilute it so it doesn't completely work but work enough to offset the mental damage."
rubbing his chin lightly.
"adn the idea of introducing canines to a anthromorphic agent is also a sound solution to the problem at hand. perhaps we'll try both and see which method yields the better results. I have plans that may be forced into fruition if things are continuing on the path they are...here and on Andal."

"Well there you are. Two more methods to try out in this little project of yours. If they don't work...well some things just aren't meant to be, are they?" Kieran chuckled lightly to that but another curious look glanced over his features. "What do you mean by that? Are you suffering the wolves to blood syndrome again?"
"I feel disgusting..." Fianna was quite soaked through, cold, and slightly slimey as well. Which was disturbing her quite a bit. Apparently Underdark water pools were not good things to fall into at all.
"You should, you have a leech on your ear." She laughed at her mother's screech but reached over and plucked the thing off, tossing it aside. Piper was in equal condition as her mother but much more settled with it. "Oh calm down. I've had this accident a dozen times if not more. Once you're out of the water it's all good. Besides, you smell like Underdark so nothing tries to eat you." She crossed her arms and smirked. "Can we call this me winning?"
"Considering you were in the lead before we decided to leap before we looked...and I feel disgusting as I've said...I'll say yes so we can go back now."
"Good. At least we have a story to tell hm? Come one now. This is the fun part where we go home and all the staff has a freakout because we may be all mangled and the men get fussy."

"the shifts in this plane are becoming too erratic and violent for my tastes. earthquakes are frequent enough but there's a definate tugging. and Sevilin's own concerns and attitude about it aren't helping things."
glancing at Keiran.
"and I am well aware of the instability in the political structures of your own underfoot. Tyrreal's playing with fire. and it's not a fire that just burns, it's a fire that consumes. So since I heard of his involvement with the young princess, I have been preparing for the political fall out and potential civil war...as well as war between damios and requias. you'd be a fool to think that a massive political upheaval won't mean that requias won't try to use that to make damn sure that damios can't get to them anymore."
