"Well then that explains that. adn did hje make you these new boots?"

picking her up off the ground and holding her at relative eye level...and glancing at the book.

"and what book is that?"
PostPosted: Wed Dec 16, 2009 9:24 am

She superficially looke down at her boots, clinking her heels together as he somewhat picked her up. "They're not new." Technically they weren't. They were just her old boots all fancied up. She still had some time in these boots before she outgrew them. A feel over the books cover just to make sure and she shrugged some. "I don't know. It does have pretty stuff in it though." And pretty for her was a strange term to use.

Taking the book her her daughter she flipped it open and browsed a few of the pages. Said pages were scrawled with various spells and notes to such things, diagrams even of a few more ritualistic things. "You can read this Savvy?" It wasn't one of Sevilin's, she knew that for sure. "Does Bumbles help you?"

"Nope." She seemed quite chipper about this all and quite sure of herself that she could read, or at least see, the things in that book. Because she did. They were bright and they felt warm.

That got a look to Malik. Savryn didn't read well, and for all inesnsive purposees she couldn't see anything either. "What's on this page?" Flipping around the book for her daughter, the pages open to a formula for some sort of thing.

Her attention drew to it and she reached out a hand to touch the page. "That's the rat trap one." Of course to her, rat trap meant for rats when the book applied it to everyhing.

A look to the page and she blinked. "Is she doing what I think she is?" Is being that she was seemingly reading the arcane energies that had become inherent in the text from it's contents and probably whomever wrote it as well. No, Savvy couldn't conventially see. But she had done thsi before in other ways...could look at people, know where they were, tap into energy. Apparently a very magic inclined little elf. More so being shown now more than ever.

Malik looked at the page, and what is was.

"That's the cage of bones spell. This is a lower level tome of necromancy. when you see this, what is it you see? and where did you get this?"

Apparently she could 'read' though feeling out and interpreting arcane energies in the tome itself.

"Piper, get Sevilin and Zahara...and if she still here, get your mother too. if she can 'see' this, then we may be able to figure out how to teach her to read or write through similar methods."

She wasn't quite sure if she was in trouble with this because the way he was talking it sounded like it was one of his books and she was under no circumstances save being handed it personally, supposed to touch anything of her father's. "The lines on the page are really bright. I found it on a table upstairs..." Not downstairs, because books of such sort usually came from his study and she wasn't allowed in there either.

"That would be a yes." Rufflin Savryn's hair to settle her some before she headed off upstairs, gathering her mother along the way and then heading farther upstairs to Sevilin and Zahara's room, knocking on the door. "Hey are you both in there? We want to see you about something that has to do with Savvy, and you're the mages here."

"Because I don't have the pretty flecks in my eyes." Turning his face to her so she could study his eyes for a moment before flipping to a fresh page on her pad and picking up her charcoal as she began to sketch. "It's something with the way the light reflects off them. Plus, I like light. It bathes me in it's brilliance and forms shadows in my world. I see light and color differently the way you do, differently than most elves for that matter."

"Of course we are though if it has anything to do with sniffing, Sevilin is incapacitated in that department at the moment." Ears twitching as they were being called. "And I don't have a lot of magical energy so if it's a healing thing, it's going to have to wait." Having to do with Savvy didn't bode well but she snuggled against Sevilin. "Come on in, Piper."
PostPosted: Wed Dec 16, 2009 6:27 pm

"True, but you're still drow." Though he had learned long before now that that really meant nothing sometimes. But he gave a grin, looking around the place as she sketched. "I suppose one of us in the underdark has to appreciate what the sun has to offer, rather than just hiding our eyes under things.

Stepping into the room she rolled her eyes. "Unless he can sniff out magic, I think we won't need his nose. And even if he can, it's still not required. But Savvy's fine, she's just apparently starting to show signs of being a powerhouse of magic perhaps. You two are more in tune with that kind of thing than me and Malik. Can't hurt to have to two put an opinion in on the matter. Come on." Gesturing them to follow her down, along with her mother.

Malik was sitting in a chair with Savryn on his lap, flipping through pages and asking her questions about what she saw on them. trying to gauge if the words came through or just the pictures...or if the magic formed the words into pictures she could understand.

"Have you tried to do anything you've seen in this book?"
PostPosted: Fri Dec 18, 2009 4:48 pm

Zahara really badly wanted to say something about Malik's position with Savryn right now, but it simply wasn't her place. She found it sad that only when the little girl showed promise magically did Malik finally decide to take an interest in his daughter's life. She had no idea what she and Sevilin were supposed to do other than relate their own experiences with powerhouse magic users. Zykariel was the strongest mage of their children though Faate came in close second. Lyssie and Kelligrin's magic was potent but they had to work harder to use it. "What's going on?"

"Even without being drow. You see light in what it can do for you, what it can illuminate. But the way I see light is how I can use it and what it can give to me. The gentleman in the shop? The one who sold us all the paints and things? He and I had a nice long conversation about it over tea one day. It was truly a learning experience. He told me that I had to embrace the light in order to see it's secrets and then paint what I saw."

The words that she knew were coming through, as she has been learning to read before she lost her sight. It just wasn't easy for her to decipher them from lack of education in that aspect. She could explain what any of the disgrams and such looked like as well and from time to time she could describe a paragraph rather than read it. It was all very strange for her and she didn't know how to explain it other than someone was showing her the things she couldn't read. "A few times..." Was she going to get in trouble for that?

Wasn't that a cute sight. "She's hitting leaps and bounds without being prompted it seems. Says she can read that book they're looking at. Malik probably has somtehing more specific to prod with don't you A'mael?" He usually did.

"It's always the potential mages that are the most trouble. Did you know that?"

"Wiser words are often heard by such means. It's a nice new perspective things I suppose. Well then, why restrict yourself to one source or type of light only. I think you should explore the rest of it all as well. After all, the way moss glows down here does give things it's own sort of enchanting look."

Glancing up lightly and giving a nod.

"we're going to conduct a test. this book is saturated with necromantic energy and magic. I want to see if she can 'see other forms of magic..like your and sevilins clerical and runemagery. and test that with fiana, since her energies for the same are different then yours."

glancing at hsi daughter and setting her on teh floor and handing the book to her.

"and then after that, lets see what you've managed to learn from that book."

Zahara frowned. "Does she want to be tested for all of this? It might be a fun game for her to play with her abilities and introducing new and foreign types of magic could turn her off to it entirely. I'm just saying to weigh the possible consequences." Turning to Sevilin and frowning for a moment. "Do you want me to actually use a healing spell or just cast anyone I can think of at this moment in time?"

She laughed and flipped the page back in her sketchpad. "Two steps ahead of you, Khai." Sure enough, there was a drawing of him in the underdark, lying in a patch of mossy undergrowth in a rather on his back with his arms crossed behind his head and on leg drawn up. The expression on his face was probably sexual though she didn't quite see it that way. It was the way she saw him right before she closed her eyes to go into reverie. Elves might not dream but they could certainly imagine. "I never gave you clothes. Do you think you need them?" Indeed, in nothing more than a pair of shorts to cover his manparts....what had she been thinking?
PostPosted: Sat Dec 19, 2009 11:22 am

"Let them worry about the consequences Zahara. If she doesn't like it, I'm sure they'll know about it." Probably through screaming and crying as Savryn had been known to do as she didn't know other ways to get the attention of anyone. Nodding to his wife though. "Use a healing spell. Those have a different energy than most other spells." Holding up a finer to halt her however and pulling out three vials. "Put it in this rather than have it loose." They were of course magic biding vials. This way they wouldn't have to be casting over and over. One handed to Fianna and the other to Zahara, he kept his own and took to binding his own brand of runics on it.

Fianna looked the vial over a little before noting what the others were doing with it and she started to bind her own runics to her vial and then handed it back to Sevilin, then watching as he took all three vials and brought over a nearby side table, setting it near the girl and then the vials on top.

"It helped me fine people better." Explanint to her father what the book had helped with at least in one case before her attention did indeed turn without prompt to the three vials of contained magic...and since no one seemed to be stopping her she wandered closer to them and probably made them all think she was going to slam into the table before she stopped in front of it. Her eyes seemed to look at each vial in turn, seeing them flowing bright in the usual darkness she saw. Though her hand settled on the one containing Zahara's and she picked it up to seemingly examinie it further up close.

He grinned at her. "You always seem to be." And he always seemed to be the subject of quite a number of things she painted or sketched. Maybe it was because she spent so much time with her or she found him a comforting or encouraging prescene to keep in mind. "We're born into this world without clothes and we only put them on to protect ourselves from things. Do you think I need protecting there?" Nodding to her sketch pad.

"It's a testing for other purposes not just monitoring her potential strengths. if she can 'see' magical energy, then we just found a way to teach her to read and to write using magically imbued instruments and text. and I wanted to see if it was specific to a magical type or not. like sevilin said, your healing magics differ from my necromantic that differ from runemagery..and even fianna and sevilin's runic signatures are different."

flipping through the book though looking for something to help someone see if they were blind.

"I'm not seeing anything here though that I could attribute to being able to see or find people better if I was blind. there's nothing in here an auras or magical detection. there's some basic lifetaps and how to summon a entry level undead minion...but I wasn't trained in the finer points of necromancy. Sevilin want to take a look, see what you might guess on what in here helps her find people easier?"
PostPosted: Sat Dec 19, 2009 5:21 pm

"Clerical magics are closer to necromantic ones than the rest of us." Pointing at the girl as she seemed to respond most to that one. But he took the book and flipped through the pages, red eyes searching and reading into things in the way any more mage than warrior did. It was common...mages read deeper into a spell than a warrior rarely did. "Well...this book does explain some basic principles as well. All life forms have an energy attributed to them that can be used in offense or defense in a number of spells, blah blah blah, each while not always unique and specific from each other varying through species, some are different throughout individuals, blah blah, these energies are always present, even after death thus producing a taint in some areas, blah blah blah, and energy is transferable indefinately." Pretty much quoting the book and then handing it back over.

"I could gather from that 'finding people' could be as easy as picking out a greater energy blip from the rest of the world around her. If it's different enough she may be able to tell who is who. It doesn't tell anyone how to use said energy to find people, she's done that on her own from applying basic principles knowledge. Clever." Clever indeed for a eight year old. "It's probably subconcious for her most of the time."

She took the vial and bound her own basic healing spell to it as well before handing it over and watching Savryn closely for a negative reaction. She still thought of that girl as an almost child of her own and it was important to Zahara that Savvy felt safe. She seemed to be alright with the magic and Sevilin's explanation did make sense. "She's compensating for her lack of traditional sight. She's already learned to compensate in other ways, why should magic be any different? And if she can recognize us by the power we possess, then she'll have a much easier time of bringing down enemies once she's older. Magic is a key ingredient in a lot of warrior's and mages battle plans."

Yes, he was more often than not the subject of her paintings and such because she felt comfortable with him and knew he'd make a good subject. She also knew him the best, knew the planes and curves of his body and how he was supposed to look. "No, I think you look just fine the way you are." Reaching over and lightly running a hand along his cheek ad then down over his arm muscles. "You look magnificent. I heard some elves talking the other day about what a beautiful body you had. I thought only artists saw form in that way?"
