"Oh, well...we could try to find the ship I suppose."

"Well, it won't be in the same place as before..."

"We did find it once..."

"But I have a thing about wizards..."

"And there were a lot on this ship..."

They smiled. "Plus, we like it here!"

"Yeah, yeah! There's lots to do in Deep Water, but we have freinds here!"

"All oh two hundred of them?" Frankly, if he could keep track of who was good for what, he deseverd a pat on the back. KNowing him he had been up studying notes or something when he couldn't sleep. Piper tapped her fingers on the table idly, one hand going to grip at her collar again. Ever since he had made mention of that thing possible coming off, she wasn't letting go of it, was she? "I was...just wondering...just thinking..."

Kieran had to at least admire the little imps on thier diligence to please Piper. Showed some admiration about them. And he even had to give a chuckle as they procalimed that they were quite comfy within the fortress. Not to mention they had taken that liking to Piper, who he assumed was the friend they were mentioning. A look to Malik with a grin. "Well well Malik...did you always get this many house guests?"

"Tell me your thoughts..and yes, all two hundred. some are masters of particular weapons, some ar tailors, armorsmiths, jewlers like broog, some handle the stables several dozen cook and clean. then we have the breakers, the clerics, guards...well..maybe we coudl cut back some. but what were you planning? selling some?"

Then a look at the imps, and Kieran.

"Before we partook on this journey...I used to get at least a dozen or more guests a week. mostly buyers, a few that woudl have slaves compete in gladiatorial combat for wagering. most people interested in pleasure slaves might stay a night or two to verify thier purchases."

A shrug, not uncommon practice.

"But since we've come here...we've gotten just a handful. which reminds me..has anoyne seen the griffin lately?"

She tapped her fingers on the table again. Actually it was something she had been thinking about for quite some time since they got here. After all, she managed to keep Malik out of main stream slave trade for how long now? What brougth it up? The need to focus on something, and this was what came to mind. Anything to keep her from thinking of Kaden. "What about just...letting some go?" Usually somethign she would of go to war with Malik over, but no fight in her right now, just hopeful asking. "I mean...liek you said. We can cut back...and what with us getting married and all..." A slight shrug a tug at her collar."...at least pay them in some form or fashion?" Hey, free room and board were payment in thier own right. "...just..." Oh boy this looked pathetic. Then she decided to veer from the subject. "You're right, been ratther quiet for such a attetnion loving griffin."

"Business guests and personal quests are also different. Your personal guests don't pay and never tend to at all." No, Kieran wasn't put off by it at all. Like Piper, he took things in stride of what they were and assumed that was they way someone had to live...until someday, things changed. Though a look and a raised eyebrow at Piper as she had more or less mumbled and tripped her way through telling Malik what she thought. Future planning apparently.

"Pay them? let them go? why woudl we do that...most of them wouldn't know what to do if they were free, they've been slaves far too long. as for payment..food and board is well enough for most..but really, what woudl they buy? I mean if there were merchants of some kind aroudn here maybe."

a bit more thoughtful look at Kieran.

"Personal guests..only maybe..nope, just Piper."

Speaking of which....

Ashlyn trotted in, looking ragged and exaughsted. Feathers were out of place and she was breathing heavily. In her beak she carried a black, unadorned scroll case. She didn't walk with her usual lazy grace, more of a so tired she couldn't pick up the pace typ walk. She ignored all others in the room, headed for Malik...but didn't even have the engery to plop the case in his lap. She simply flopped down by his chair and let the case roll out onto the floor.

Her fingers took to leaving the table along as her other hand again tugged at her collar out of it's own volition."...Then what about...no collars? If you say they don't know anything else then they woudl stay, collar or none." Quiet again, fingers takeing to tracing the designs of her collar. "Just a thought..." But then a look as Ashlyn made an apperance looking ragged.

Kieran could see where she was going however to a degree. What with him coming around, her past being dragged up and all the like, he could sort of see it. "Just a thought that maybe it's a little to...high life...?" Please, he was her father, he could see right through her sometimes. Telepathy helped too. he too turned his attention to Ashlyn however with a raised eyebrow.

He didn't get where she was going with it, and gave Kieran a quizzical look, before noting the exhausted Ashlyn, and picking up teh scroll case, opening it up and looking at the contents.

"Imps..why don't you make yourselves useful again and help Ashlyn...she seems very exhausted, coudl use some fodo and water..and a bit of preening I would think."

"Orders?"

"I don't tihnk so."

"We already helped with the food."

"The griffin..." the two leaned over the table to regard the tired, but scary looking creature. "Can look after herself."

"Yeah. No way I'm touching a griffin."

"Unless I get to pull her tail."

"And to be honest, that one doesn't look like she's up for the fight." The nodded. Didn't want to persue something that wasn't going to be fun."

Ashlyn gave a snort that said she didn't want any dirty imps helping her anyway. She curled her paws underneath her and nuzzled Malik's boot. SHe had done good right?

"You will recive the shipment in two days, as per our agreement.
We expect payment in one week."

Piper had at this point slipped down from her chair and was sitting on the floor next to Ashlyn at Malik's boots, petting over the griffin's feathers, finger combing them into order and generally just lavishing affection on the poor thing. Piper didn't think she could take seeing Ashlyn looking like this...she had had enough of things not looking right in the last several hours to say the least. "Poor Ashlyn...she's exhausted." Slave talk forgotten for a moment...she couldn't put it together eloquently anyway.

Kieran give Malik a grin and that, 'I'll tell you later' look. Piper wasn't the best at making herself come across right now and seemed there needed to be a communication bridge built up. He could do that. "So, looks like you've got mail."

AShlyn lifted her head a bit and groaned loadly. The petting and smoothing felt great, It itched horrible to have feathers out of place like that. Yeah. she had come across a few....things in her travels. But she had been summoned, so she had left to get that scroll case. Maybe having all of this attention was really worth it.

"I'm getting a shipment of something in two days, and they expect payment in one week. I don't recall making any purchases. Ashlyn, coudl you tell me where this scroll came from? perhaps that might refresh my memory. I know that the mage acdemy is payign for the repairs to the fortresss due to Tanundra and his sister, but I don't recall anything else. I remember that I offered two trinkets from my vault for access to teh Oracle, but I doubt this refers to that. I wouldn't think they'd refer to the Oracle as a 'shipment'."

He leaned down, and patted and scratched Ashyln's head.

"But if they are..well then I'll have those items within the week delivered to them no problem."

Eliot looked around, place didn't look to shabby. She was scared though, she didn't kno wwhat she was getting herself into.

"...So what are we going to do?" She asked Roarke.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 17, 2005 5:20 pm

Ashlyn sighed. She liked that pat...she really did. But the scroll case hadn't come from anywhere around here. That, and she was much too tired to get up and fetch the neccessary items. She let out a huff. Ashlyn reached out and tapped the black scroll case with her beak. The last time she had brought a black scroll case, who had it been from?

Roarke slung an arm around Eliot as he led her up the steps. "This is the Academy! We'll get some clothes, some provisions, and then we'll head to our true destination." He looked at her. "It is not a place for the faint of heart. Beware! Many who go into this place do not come out....free." Or alive, but he didn't say that.

Piper looked up from Ashlyn to Malik where they both sat next to his chair and she tugged at her own collar slightly, still petting at Ashlyn. Of course by this time her hands had worked all the way to Ashlyn's wings. Yes, petting the griffin was a great means of distraction as well for Piper. Her mind would wander to unpleasant things when silence was about. "Didn't we get one like that before? About Bode?"
