"That is true." His expression looked rather mischievous now. "We had better hope that the child does not arrive early." Marcus snaked his arms around Terryn. "Gran should be pleased."

"I would assume." Terryn kissed up his neck, running her fingers lightly up his arm. "We should begin calling her great Gran."

OOC: Are you still doing stuff with Serina?
Marcus smiled, looking down to kiss Terryn properly. "Something she's wanted to hear for years, I'm sure."

((yup, once they get home))
Terryn wondered if she considered herself a great grandmother because of all of Marcus's illegitmate children. She highly doubted it and decided it best not to ask and instead allow herself to get wrapped up in his kiss.

OOC: We haven't visited the elders in quite a while.
The Duchess downed another cup of tea, looking quite drained. She could not find Marcus. She had been almost convinced that they were in Tuscany--after all, there was no doubt to what they were up to, and Marcus had specifically mentioned Tuscany. The boy was simply too much at times. And now she was expecting the earl, to give him more bad news.

The earl entered the room slowly, looking rather worn and tired. He took a seat without greeting the duchess, his eyes far off and his mind obviously clouded.

"Arvin...we were making plans. We had a venue. The beginnings of a guest list." The Duchess sounded mournful. She was happy (distantly) for the two of them, but also furious at them for being so irresponsible. But, really, what else was new?

"Let it go, Emily." The earl was currently in no mood to lament his daughter's elopement. In fact, having her away was probably a good thing, as he didn't have to worry about putting on a strong front for her. "Give them their happiness. Lord knows it never lasts."

The Duchess looked sympathetic, and she took his hand. The earl had been unusually quiet and horribly depressed for the past week or so. "I am sorry, Arvin. Are you..alright?"

The earl retracted his hand, shaking his head as he stared absently at her cup of tea. "No..."

The Duchess looked cautiously at her friend. Comfort and sympathy were not the Duchess's strengths; she was much better at extracting confessions and plotting. "Have you received word from the doctors?"

"Unfortunately..." The earl pulled a handekerchief from his pocket and wiped at his eyes. It wouldn't do to show tears or weakness.

The Duchess swallowed, dabbing at her neck with her own handkerchief. "Oh...you don't mean...has Serina...?"

The earl sighed, answering only by lowering his eyes and dabbing at them again. "I know you weren't as fond of her as you were of Arianna, and I admit that nobody could full take her place, but I did still have a spot soft for her in my heart."

The Duchess's fears were confirmed. She was more concerned, however, about the effect this would have on the earl. Outliving two of his young wives... "Of course," she murmured. "I cannot quite believe..."
