He was quiet through the little story before looking over to his sister who was still happily playing in the grass before his eyes came back to his father. "But that's not her fault." In his opinion, it wasn't. They had made the decision to let things go. They could have let Zahara go through with it all and no one would have been the wiser. And this was all the exact reason he was so defensive of his sister...it wasn't her fault the she didn't know what it was like to have your father want you around and play with you and move the world for you if he felt he had to.
In the grand shceme of things, Savvy meant little to Malik until more recent years. A step forward maybe in Dhairiss' opinion but still not enough. However...if his father's opinion wouldn't change then she did need someone to love her like a father should. He could rationalize that Malik did love her in some way...otherwise he wouldn't care if she couldn't see. Unless he was doing it to simply take the address responsibility off of Piper. These were the kind of conflicting ideals that made him confrontational and kept his wanderlusting self where he was needed.
"Is that all you're ever going to see in her? A bad memory?" Death kept trying to grab his sister by the throat and sometimes he thought that quite a few people wouldn't mourn her passing too much. Which was a disturbing thought.

She chuckled, "If you had grown up with brothers and a sister the way I did, you would have taken what you needed or wanted too. Besides I only took things that wouldn't be missed, like my father's extra pair of boots." She flopped on his couch and drew her hands through her hair. "Come to think of it, I think I still have a blanket of yours I...borrowed...once."
"Stained glass," she decided instantaneously. She'd have to come up with some kind of workable design and figure out how to cut and color the glass later. Khai no doubt had some knowledge or knew someone who had it on Andal. "You misunderstood me, Khai. I'm talking about an heir. Do you need a son, regardless? Does your father require it of you?"
"I would be just fine because I'd have you. Life would be lacking without the kids and I suppose without Zykariel we would have never come together the way we did. But you can't fool me either, Sevilin. Without Zykariel you wouldn't be nearly as happy as you are right now. You live and breathe for that boy and I know it. Although, for being such a female producer, you've certainly given me a lot of boys."

"That was my favorite blanket too. Mostly because it was the warmest and when you live alone, warm is very important. Mostly because it's comfortable." Crossing his arms though he continued to poke at her. "I think that's just called selective stealing."
Of course she would go with the fancy glass, which was why he suggested it. After all, this place didn't have to be a fortress like his father was fond of. If she wanted to put her womanly touches into it, then so be it. "Girls can he heirs. It's not like my father can control what kind of child we'd have anyway."
"Probably but that's me." However he gave a good natured laugh. "Three to two. Maybe nature decided there were enough females of our kind in the world and it was time to switch the scales some. Or maybe I've been kicked one too many times and lucky you I'm useless to other traditional women in the ways of children because I'm stuck on boy mode."

"Well, at the time I didn't know that and you weren't forthcoming with the information. When I'm speaking to my mother again, I'll bring it back for you. Or I'll get you a better one, how's that?" She shook her head and crossed her arms. "So I was a bad little elf. Keeps me from being perfect, right?"
She wasn't designing a fortress by any means. It was a house, a house of the type that they'd seen in Andal. Of course it was going to be as close to impenetrable as he could make it. She wasn't stupid and she knew how seriously he took her safety. Her pencil paused in it's sketching and she glanced up at him. "So you do need an heir provided by me." Which meant she had to produce one child no matter what. And that scared her.
"Four." It was said quietly but automatically. She'd never fully gotten past her baby's death or the b*****d that had taken him from her. She gave him a nuzzle, taking comfort from being in his lap and then chuckled as well. "I like boys. Girls are way too much work. Though if something changes and we do have another...now it's probably going to be a girl."

"Either option works good for me. Beggers can't be choosers and I'm one hell of a begger." He said it proudly despite how beggers weren't proclaimed proud people. "I like you being not perfect. It makes you more interesting than other girls." Wandering into his own kitchen and getting out a few things as he felt some hunger coming on.
"I didn't say that either." This was going to get complicated on him wasn't it? "I have a brother, he could have and heir too. My sister could in time, Innoruuk forbid that though." Children yes were always a forgone conclusion in marriage but they weren't a necessity either. Why were they even talking about this? They weren't even doing what was required for children yet. "Don't worry about it."
He didn't like to mention the other, but he understood why she often did. "Well of course it is now. You've gone and cursed us by saying it and now we're doomed."

"Yet you never came and lived with me, despite my begging my parents and you to do so." Shaking her head and following him into the kitchen where she plopped on a barstool. "Are you really hungry or only kind of hungry? I know a really neat dip that we can make. We have the stuff for it, too."
"I just don't see your brother settling down for a long time, Malikhai. It's your responsibility as your father's eldest son and his own heir and I understand that. You're just going to have to be patient with me, that's all." Because she had to be able to do certain things to be able to carry and give birth to a child. "I...learned something last night and I owe you a pretty big apology..."
She chuckled and merely ran her fingers through his hair, her own playing in the silvery strands. "Three girls. I think we could handle another girl. Ribbons instead of bugs and high pitched giggles instead of yelling about pirates. Savvy is filling that spot right now though so whether we do or not, it'll be a long time coming." Pressing a kiss to his cheek. "Do you want another baby or are you going to be passive and say it's up to me and whatever happens, happens?"

"No. But it's not easy for me either. I don't have very many good reveries. unlike you and your brother, the darkness in my soul far outweighs what's good in it. I've done terrible things, and had terrible things done to me."
Looking over at his daughter.
"I am trying to compensate for that. I wake up in the middle of the evening, seeing my wife dying before me, and I cannot help the waves of resentment and anger that flood from me toward her in my own head. Just as long ago I used to wake up to the feeling of being methpdically disected in the raging bloodlust of a Vah, or the pain of feeling that same vah punch a hole through my chest."
Shaking his head lightly.
"And those are the easier ones to deal with. those aren't what my rebirths were truly like at each death. how hours and days on mortal planes were like years and centuries in Hate. The way for the Father to mold me into a more potent tool. or the link I share with Malvolence, and the remnants of some of those whom my wrath let loose that blade upon their souls."
"your mother is my life. the reason I am what I am now. the reason you have the care you do, both you and your brother. in fact, the negligence you seem to find from me to my daughter is nothing uncommon in the city of my birth. particularly for any child that is not a direct heir or some prodigal child in a field of honor."
"I take my family very seriously. and I would do no less for my daughter then I would do for you. despite my lack of 'physical affection'. My carelessness blinded my daughter. I need no other examples or people prodding at me about how things are between her and I."
"But you cannot expect me to become what you want me to be toward her simply becuase your morality deems it wrong, nor can you expect such a change overnight...or maybe even years. If you want to give her the affection you see as a lack, then fine. But know your place. you are her brother, not her father."

"I'm always really hungry. Do a lot of work and you tend to eat a lot." Shrugging his shoulders as he knew the way things usually went that he would be busting his a** later. "Don't tell me you're a recipe box like your mother is."
"True, Dhairiss is flighty and more preoccupied with my sister at the moment." To which was a sigh as it was a point of contention in the house as well. He understood why he brother was acting out but he also understood why it upset his father as well. Malik was trying...it was slow and little incriments but he was trying. Wounds that ran deep didn't heal quickly. "I am patient. I'm just saying that all those thoughts about tradition and what not don't have to be concrete as most make them." Tilting his head some. "Did you? What did you learn?"
"Passive. Besides as you said...Savryn is like we have another child of our own sometimes." He knew she still felt bad about what had happened, despite the good intentions behind her logic. It had blown up a little in her face but it had also settled quickly as well. Though women did tend to hold grudges. "Are you heading down there today with me?"
He tugged at his tunic again even if it didn't do anything to alleviate pain that was simmering in his chest. He really really wanted to say he could let this go but he couldn't. It wasn't fair to Savvy, or mom either. But it was the way things were now wasn't it? And there wasn't much he could do to make it change as evidenced now by this little talk. "I'm just asking you to try. I hate seeing you and mom shut down on each other over her, and I hate seeing you ignore her and her ignore you because she knows she'll only get something out of you if it's needed and necessary. I think you'd find at least something in her if you even cared to just watch her. Like the creepy sensing thing. She adapts well." Looking over at said little elf as things had gone quiet and she wasn't making background noise anymore. Instead it looked like she was listening for something, keeping rabbit still. It certinaly wasn't them.

"I find and see more then you assume. I know about her 'creepy sensing thing' that she has toward you and your mother. I know where it comes from. just as I am well aware of her ability to adapt and her hydrophobia. she has the laugh of her mother, but the stoic nature of her father. She looks to me more often then you think. she just doesn't do it in the manner that you perceive it. And I am trying."
he glanced that way as well. and his eyes narrowed some, more in concentration, trying to hear anything unusual. most animals in the atrium were specifically brought to serve a ecological purpose, and none were considered dangerous. the rabbit response of being still as stone in the hope something wouldn't notice or in full alert made little sense unless something was in the atrium that shouldn't be...or she was sensing some animal she hadn't before which wouldn't be overly surprising.
Either way, malik's hand moved to where a sword should be...but wasn't. he'd planned on a talk, not something that required a weapon. when there was no sword, the grass around him wilted a bit. not dead but certainly not healthy while he prepared his necromantic talents to be put to use.

The latter half of that explaination was better than the first half in his opinion. Anyone would eventually figure out the surface things, it was what one could find that wasn't readily avaliable that was more important. Though he was right, she did have mom's laugh. "Savvy?"
She more or less ignored him, staying like she was save for the twitch of ears and a stoic stare before she leaned forward, pressing her ear to the ground. What was that? She'd never heard that before. She didn't listen for very long before she popped up and ran over to the two of them, promptly hiding behind Malik's leg and latching to his pants. Knew where he was, he was doing magic things "Ground's talking...." That's all she gave in the way of explaination of what was obviously unsettling or scaring her. But yes indeed...there was starting to be a slight rumble to the ground that even the others could notice.

"Me too. I use most of my energy to study though." Shaking her head and giving a laugh as she began to assemble the ingredients she needed. "Not even close. I know the easy stuff to feed myself without making a big mess. My mother knows how to make everything under the sun and even things that aren't."
She reached over and rested her hand on his thigh in momentary comfort then began sketching once again. There was more stress in the house than any of them really liked but they all had to adapt and learn to live with it. "I made you feel awful on our honeymoon because of what you asked me to do...and it's completely normal. I honestly didn't now that's how elves...did it."
"When she'll let me be her mother. The moment her father shows up, I no longer exist." Not that Zahara didn't understand it. She really wanted to badger Malik about his choice about the girl the same way he'd badgered her about her choice regarding Zykariel, however, she'd learned a long time ago not to fight with him. "Might as well. I have nothing more to do over here."

Malik gave a small frown, and knelt down, pressing his hand to the ground. it didn't seem like a stampede of animals or marching troops...so probably an earthquake. which meant someone would have to check it out. after all being undergournd meant a better chance of magma flooding out then on the surface.
"Feels like a quake. unusual for down here, but not something that can't naturally happen."
petting his daughters hair to calm her down some.
"nothing to be afraid of...it wasn't near enough to us to cause anything but vibration, so it shouldn't pose a danger."
but picking his daughter up all the same.
"Lets go inside. and I'll contact Zahara about your chest."

"Your mother knows how to make things that aren't edible looking but taste good." He laid out a slab of fish on a cutting board and took to sharpening a long thin knife. This and heating up things together was about the extent of his cooking skills. "While you're doing that can you cut some carrot and cucumber strips for me?" He had fish to cut.
"Oh, that. Don't worry about that." Sitting up to press a kiss to her cheek to further soothe her and look over her sketch some. Well, seemed the women were already banning together to intigrate her into their click. That was a good thing in his opinion. "Live, learn, and move on." Maybe the awkward would clear up some now.
"Children are fickle. It's what they do. But since ours can take care of themselves, are learning, or are being testful then we'd best deal with ourselves. In fact how about some fun? Race you there, no runes, no horses." Hey they had their fun still. Though he did look up a little at the rattle of her various glass spice jars and what not clanking together lightly as the slight rumble that went through the house. Stronger than at Twilight though.
"I hate quakes..." No he didn't like those at all. The one's he has experienced hadn't been fun. He'd been knocked out of trees, off various things, and fallen down holes. Not fun at all. Though was it weird that she was aware of it before they were? "Just better stay that way...really don't care to have one shake things up here."
She was happy to be picked up actually as she didn't like that feeling at all. It made things unsteady and her still developing mental picture of things wiggle around. Which was not happy. Though she jumped in his hold again as she, and part of Malik was pounced by her little undead draithix who was making noises, half standing on her head and half on Malik's shoulder. A few noises though and she giggled. "Bumbles!" Yes, she had named it.
He had to snicker laugh at that one, shaking his head before tugging at his tunic again. "Inside means less worry. Besides, there's no use running from Zahara."

"Does she ever." Faate went about mixing up the dip and had it done in a matter of minutes which she put into the icebox to keep it cool so they could eat it later. Taking out a cutting board, she washed off the carrots and cucumbers and began peeling and slicing them as he'd asked. "You're making fish. I've only had fish cooked outside over an open flame and without a lot of spices. Not my favorite thing, really."
"I'm glad you feel that way though it still kind of scares me. You'll just have to give me time but I am trying, Khai." He'd probably brush all of that off as well since he was usually so good to her. She flipped the notebook so he could see and pointed out the various rooms. "You can have the whole basement to yourself. We'll even build a small arena so you can practice your swordsmanship and whatever else you do down there."
She smiled at his suggestion which quickly turned into a frown at the start of rumbling and shaking. It wasn't intense enough to sound off an alarm but she'd still never forgotten the one that had come through when the gods had abandoned Labyrinth and taken their magic with them. She did a quick check of the runic locks on her cabinets and then tugged her cloak over her shoulders. "Go!" Taking off with a laugh thrown over her shoulder as she gave herself a short head start. They were both in shape and well equipped to run such a distance. He had more strength but her endurance couldn't be beat. And it was always fun to try to distract your opponent along the way...in good ways of course.
