wow I feel sad to say that I only got into Oblivion last year when my step father told me about it and gave me the game, still when I did get it, it was the summer time >.< and I put close to 12 hours a day of gaming into it because well... I literally had nothing better to do XD

Hey better late than never is the saying. Back when the game came out in 2005 I was still in High School so my summers were free. I know I spent nearly everyday of that summer break playing OB like it was going out of style. I made sure to turn my 360 off every now and then so I wouldn't melt the insides from playing so much.

Did you ever play Morrowind?

no I heard of morrowind AFTER I got Oblivion, then I bought Morrowind to play on the 360 and the 360 said ******** you I don't wanna work with this, so I had returned the game and thankfully got a full refund

sad aww that sucks. Do you have a decent computer? You could try Morrowind on it, it doesn't need as much as OB does to run.

I have a decent computer btu I have no money to buy the game for it :

If you ever get the chance you should pick it up and get it a go. You will not be disappointed, at least plot wise you will not be disappointed. It might take a bit to get used to after playing OB as MW combat compared to OB is just bad IMO.

I'ma just save up for Skyrim first though XP

Lol

The link about is a picture contrast of characters from Oblivion and Skyrim.
Trying to show how improved the graphics are, and what to expect your next character to look like.

So once again it seems like no one likes Altmer. Because no one who was allowed to play the closed demo (open to game legit game reviewers online) at Quakecon seems to have created one, so there is no Skyrim reference for them yet. Though they are a playable race.

Oh and in order.
Imperial, Khajiit, Breton, Orc, Dunmer, Bosmer, Argonian, Nord, Redguard.

That's a pretty sweet comparison. Why does everyone hate on the Altmers? crying

Probably because they are a pure magic orientated race, but even so Breton's make better mages than them.

There is just a lot of hate for the Mer race in general. I know I hate on the Khajiit, but that's just a running joke that I have with a buddy who always plays as the Khajiit.

I don't think that is what she meant.
I think she means why people don't play Altmer as much.
I think out of the Mer, Dunmer is played the most. Bosmer is quite handy too for an archer type character. But if u make an Altmer you should make it a mage, but then if you want a mage all the guides say you should roll a Breton because statistically they are better suited.

A Breton might make a better Battlemage but if your going pure as pure can go as a Mage then the Altmer would be the better choice with the total amount of magicka they can have without using exploits.

Even though they get the bigger magicka pool I would still go with the Breton as that 50% resistance to magicka really does help if you go with the Apprentice Birthsign.

EDIT: Didn't notice that you quoted me: I've just noticed that type of hate in the Lore section of the Beth Forums, manly from those who are fans of the Argonian's. But you are right the Dunmer are the top fav among those who like the Mer race.

None of the Breton's racial bonuses suggest they make a good battlemage. But their Magicka resistance talent, +50 Magicka, is a better choice compared to 100 Magicka and 25% weakness to fire, frost, and shock.

I don't always follow what some would call the norm of character class building. I've made quite a few decent Battlemages using Bretons. Just as I've made warrior's out of Bretons and pure mages out of Imperials. Sure it really doesn't take all that much tweaking to do those, not like it would be to create a Nord Mage or a Bosmer warrior.

I made a Khajiit my first time. A thief.
The other was a Bosmer Assassin. (What Marilien is based on)
I have some other creations as well but their completion record is no were near 100%

So yeah I usually play stealthy characters. Hence why I never pick Altmer. XD
I hope they make stealth better in Skyrim. Combat and Stealth was so messed up in Oblivion. Though I heard Skyrim is getting a magnatism effect, like in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. So instead of hacking wildly in the air, your attacks are drawn to the enemy you are targetting.

I was also annoyed stealth damage was so weak in Oblivion, for close range that is. I mean if you get up close and knife something without being seen and then only pinch a little of their health off, ur then right there under their nose about to get maced in the face.

My first Oblivion character was a Nord warrior, then a Breton mage-blade, and then an Orc grappler/martial artist... then I got the game for PC, and tried out a Dunmer paladin-y type (for Knights of the Nine), and a Nord guy who just smashed faces and joined the DBH and smashed more faces. My husband played a mage/alchemist but I don't remember her race right now.

I like Dunmer because I often like playing darker-skinned characters, just as a personal preference, and I also like Orcs and big things (so, Nords). I'm going to try a Bosmer or Altmer next though, because an Archer or a true Mage would be new for me~

Oblivion damage and targeting was awkward, the magnetism aspect intrigues me. A lot of Skyrim intrigues me. I just hope I'll have the cash for when it comes out, but it is looking more positive on that front right now. :3

... what I would do to get my husband to play oblivion with me... or any other fantasy related game for that matter....you are so lucky to have a guy who likes similar video games to you.

I only really have played Oblivion first as an Altmer and then secondly as a Breton.... both were mage/stealth/melee characters. I like the idea of using magic in games, but when it comes down to it, I can't seem to resist drawing my blade and hacking some damage into my foes. XD I like Altmers so much because they are elves....why better then the other elves I'm not sure.

Hey guys. /waves.
Back from India, but not exactly sure where to post considering the slow activity of the guild. sweatdrop

Though I figure I might as well join in on the conversation =3
Altmer mage & apprentice sign seems to be getting a lot of bad words for the magic vulnerability, but you forget magi tend to be incredibly weak themselves. With a little bit of awareness, the night-eye and detect life combo and good reflexes so you can dodge incoming projectiles, you should be able to kill enemies fast enough that they don't burn through your shields before you blow them up.
Just my two cents.

Welcome back from India chronic! I am glad you have returned. I would be up for getting a mage's guild quest going if you and anyone else were interested. question
