I find this all kind of irritating.

It should not matter what they do in their private lives. It should not matter what race they are. It should not matter even what their religion or ethics are. Because governing should be blind to those things and have no say in them. As long as they do their job and uphold freedom, they could be a genetically-engineered orangutan with a penchant for polygamy for all I care.

I am all for gay rights (I go both ways, so I have a 50% stake in them no less), but I am for ALL RIGHTS OUTRIGHT. Saying that a gay candidate is anything other than a candidate is essentially saying they are different in a(n albeit positive in this case) discriminatory way. He should just be seen as a person, not "the openly gay candidate" and judged in accordance to the relevant conditions – his ability to perform the job.

Here here! (though I wouldn't discount ethics in a general sense)

Well, not entirely, as you need ethics and morals to stand up to defending freedoms. But take for instance myself, I am strongly against most religions. However, I would fiercely fight for everyone to have freedom of religion regardless of my personal disgust of a lot of them. My ethics and morals are largely not important compared to what I would actually do and fight for. My higher moral and ethical obligation to defend freedom trumps my personal biases and ideals.

Meh, we currently live in a world stuck in old values and ways. There are still millions of people living with closed minds and selfish thoughts. You shouldn't let this irritate you because the fact is, we're not there yet. Instead look at the positive. Pekka Haavisto got quite a lot of votes and almost made it into presidency. You wouldn't see that in America for a few more decades since there are too many people with their heads up their asses. The comments on Fox News' articles are proof enough of this. We just managed to get over the color of someone's skin for presidency. Can you imagine how long it'll take to cover who the person chooses to spend their life with?

Go Finland though! You still get a good president (possibly, you never know until they're in office) and you moved a step forward as far as being accepting and knowledgeable with gay rights :'D That's so exciting. Who knows, maybe the next election someone openly gay might win

@Exxos: I agree with you completely but of course things like that will matter in peoples opinions. Like SanGrays said, even with our "scandinavian open mindedness" it still is a big thing for a openly gay person to run for presidency since it's the first time. I think next time, it won't be such a big deal. The same happened after our first female president. It's the little mile stones you need to get pass by before you really get to the point where the ethnicity, religion, sex or sexuality doesn't matter.

What really made me angry with all the debates was that some people actually used his sexuality as a measurement of his competence. People said for example that he couldn't present Finland properly in foreign countries because he's gay. Since when has a sexuality been a indicator for work experience?! emotion_facepalm Moments like that really makes me desperate. We have laws saying that it's against law to discriminate a person according to his sex or sexuality. Apparently, it doesn't involve presidents though. One thing that might have caused this "positive discrimination" as he him self said, was that the two candidates were really the same when it came to the other aspects of their politics. In all of the debates they basically just agreed on the other ones statements with comments like "I agree" or "you have a good point there". biggrin

All in all, I think it's a step forward and next time any gay person runs for the presidency, it won't be such a big deal. We are making baby steps but still all those steps takes us little by little towards a better world. 3nodding

I never thought about the Chatterbox being a serious discussion thread. Will come back here again. I just asked Camwen a question and she suggested I present it here.

I am making threads for our clan, and I want to make in-thread links, so I can link to each post from a row of buttons at the bottom of each post - an index with active links.

I can make links to other threads but not within threads.

I got directions from a friend, but her thread is in a public forum. Since those directions do not work, I think this may be one of those differences between public threads and clan/guild threads. (Clan and guild BBCode should be the same, as both use the old-style pages.) I know that the url abbreviation that uses .t##### does not work in clans.

Can anyone help me?

I am also going to try Guild Owners Association, since most of the members there have rp guilds and might be using this.

I think it should be possible. It will open a new page at the other persons post. Now, let me test this out. I'll add the instructions soon if this works. smile Camwens post

Edit: it did work. So here's how you'll get the correct number for the post. Click the little page icon in front of the post date and time. With left click you can either open it to a new tab and then copy the address or you can just copy the link straight away. From there you'll get the number of the post and when you put a link to it, the page will automatically open up on that post.

Here's what the link and the number of the post looks like:

Here's a fantastically artistic picture to represent what I mean. smile

Lilygwen, you are incredible! Thank you sooooo much! This is actually familiar - someone explained it once, but I got a stress headache and was going to go back to it later, then lost my notes. But mentioning the icon and then seeing it - YES! Was just checking before I signed off, but I am going to try this tomorrow.

I used to play it more but lately I just haven't had the time. I some times might go on a few hour rampage through there but ever since I got the Skyrim, I haven't done that either since I use the spare time I manage to get in there hunting dragons. xp

Me too! Apparently it's an XBox game... I thought it was like a WOW thing so I sort of tuned it out.

I've never played with a Play Station or an XBox.
Edit: No, I played Super Mario once. On something.

Oh, you're even more clueless than I am! I was in the loop until about the time I graduated from high school.
