humble_gypsy_traveller So it's not the gov't's bullshit? It's a protest? How does it go about being a protest when Gaia has censored itself? Just be patient and know that your little darling is getting better. gaia_nitemareleft It's about raising the awareness. So people could see what it could do to Gaia. If enough people make a noise about it, then maybe US senate wont pass the SOPA law. You can read more from the SOPA thread. What is SOPA and how it will affect gaia if it's passed. gaia_angelright

In other news...
I've been having much luck in playing the MP with buying items and getting good returns. So I hope you guys take a moment and consider dropping by Guess That Song, Capturika (next month), What Are You Wearing (next month, and will be using tektek now and then as I'm running out of outfit ideas with my own stuff) and I may be adding a lotto to A Humble Cleansing.
Now back to your regularly scheduled chatter. xd

It seems every few years they get the itch to go and try and regulate all of the internet. We can't solve hunger in our country but by golly we can police free enterprise!

The topic of internet piracy and copyright infringement is a really interesting one... While I think many/most of us would say that those two things are bad, how many of us partake of them on a regular basis?
That said, it looks like SOPA would not be an effective tool to combat piracy because it would just negatively affect too much stuff. Being Canadian, I can't contact my local congressman or whatever, but I can keep an eye on what my government does...

Brasa Shikabane Silly uneducated politicians trying to take control of something they don't understand. I wouldn't call them uneducated; I'm sure they're all highly educated. They're just very ignorant and out of touch.

humble_gypsy_traveller Lilygwen humble_gypsy_traveller Hey guys...did you just see the notice that popped up at the top of the page on Gaia? That SOPA compaign that Gaia was doing got it censored! WTF??? I hope it's some stupid joke. gaia_nitemareleft It's part of the SOPA protest that is going on today. Sites like Google and Wikipedia are also participating on the protest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_PageEdit: Oh and yeah, I'm glad she's getting bit better but she had puked today again. Still, she seems to be going in the right direction so I hope we'll get over this puke cleaning soon. gaia_angelright So it's not the gov't's bullshit? It's a protest? How does it go about being a protest when Gaia has censored itself? Seems more like compliance then protest to me. Just be patient and know that your little darling is getting better. Gaia didn't actually censor anything, they just put that on the front page to get people's attention and to help raise awareness of the issue.

It's also interesting to see how people interpret issues that they don't properly read up on themselves. I'm not saying that's happening with SOPA and PIPA in a large sense, but I see a LOT of it happening with issues in Canada. Like a few months back people were going around saying the Canadian government was going to introduce this thing that metred internet use and charged you per usage. People freaked out, considerably (although that is the standard plan in Bhutan). I read the thing and it turned out that it was a bill, or whatever, that was going to allow metered usage as an alternate billing plan to let the smaller internet service providers be competitive against the big guys.

Camwen Lilygwen has agreed to become one of the AGA moderators. Thank you Lily!! heart gaia_nitemareleft No problem. whee It might take a little while to get the hang of things, but I'll promise to do my best. 3nodding We are living interesting times here in Finland too. On sunday, we have our president elections. There's one guy, who is very strong and most likely will be elected. Then, the second strongest candidate is, what I would say, and extremely interesting. It gives hope to me that despite the recent political turmoils, we are not going backwards and instead forwards. The second strongest candidate who have gone up a significant amount in the poll is about 50 year old experienced politician who have, for the last few years, lived openly in a gay relations ship with this 30 year old man. I know it's is very unlikely that he'll be elected but still... he is rather strong in the polls. The idea of having an openly gay president is interesting to say the least. I think our country would then be the first world to have an openly gay president... In a way, it would be fun to see what all those conservative countries and people would do if he really would get elected. whee gaia_angelright

So I wonder...who will be the New World Order with all these scare tactics...I mean...isn't Japan or China blocking any and all western world traffic from reaching their people? I know it's not the same as copyright protection...but it's still along the lines of restraining people from the freedom to access information.
