Fluffy Little Octopus Say, does anybody know any of the proper etiquette expected out of a gentile when going to a Jewish religious service? Who is hosting the service? What kind of Jewish service is it? Quote: I'll be going to Boys' State, a leadership program where over 1,000 boys ( heart ) stay in a dorm ( heart heart ) for a week ( heart heart heart )and govern a mythical 51st state, and I'll have my [mandatory] pick from a Protestant, Catholic, or Jewish religious service Sunday morning there. Fun. Find out what sect, then ask someone to give you pointers. Or contact a local Rabbi and inform him of your opertunity and ask if he can give you a crash course.

TeaDidikai Who is hosting the service? What kind of Jewish service is it? To the best of my knowledge, the program ultimately provides it, and they have a wide variety of sponsors from across the state, mainly small businesses and clubs (which I believe is what makes it exempt from church-state affairs, but hey, it's Missouri). Since I have less understanding of the Jewish religious structure as I would like (much of the reason why I'll be selecting it), I don't really know much of the specifics, only that it's a sabbath day kind of thing. sweatdrop TeaDidikai Fun. Find out what sect, then ask someone to give you pointers. Or contact a local Rabbi and inform him of your opertunity and ask if he can give you a crash course. Will do. 3nodding

I am currently debating putting up a complete pathways thread for myself.
After much consideration, I'm not sure how open I want to be about my practices, even the ones that I am able to discuss with other folks.
On the one hand, I started the Pathways subform for a good reason. I wanted to be able to help folks who had no frellen' idea what my path was to have a point of reference.
But the more I think about it, the more I'm not sure I want complete strangers reading through my faith.
It's different when a friend asks- I wouldn't give a second thought to answering Reagun's questions, or Deo's questions. But a complete stranger who lacks even the most basic of context?
I just don't know. ninja question

You'll figure it out. 3nodding
I admit I'm curious about your path, but then, I'm curious about most things, so that's probably no surprise, hehe.
I'd like to think I have an inkling of an idea about your practices, but given that I'm not you and don't have all that much contact with you, boy am I probably wrong. xd
Happy debating? pirate exclaim

Hm...what if you put it all in a code that only friends could decipher! surprised
...Nevermind. ^^; Hm...don't journals on Gaia give you the option of only allowing friends to view them? That could work.

You can say what your practises are without actually revealing how to do them. Explaining something isn't exactly the same as teaching someone how to do it. You can make it in such a way that your practises can be understood but cannot be stolen. 3nodding
Anyway: I'm going to San Francisco on Wednesday!

TeaDidikai missmagpie I'm going to San Francisco on Wednesday! Having tea with Fiddler? And why aren't you coming to Seattle? Does Fiddler live in SF? eek Seattle would require me to drive, which I can't do. I would love to meet up with you though if there is some way of arranging it. I'll be there til the 26th. That's plenty of time to meet up for coffee and conversation... 3nodding FLO: Depending on how Little you are, I may be able to stuff you in my suitcase and let you live in my water bottle. Let's just hope they don't have a section on the customs form of "Illegal transportation of cephalopods."

missmagpie Yep. xp Teehee I made reagun jealous! Go me! *dances* OH yeah? Well... well I ate the cookies in the cookie jar. Just finished the first A4 page of illegible hand writing. Man my hands hurt. "Where am I getting the time for this handwriting" I ask myself. Then I look at the computer to that oh-so-distinctive "Still searching" dialog.
