She countered his exasperation with exuberance. "Oh, but thinking of possibilities is fun!" Especially for someone that did a lot of her thinking aloud. She leaned back on the headboard, bearing a content expression. "While I can't say that I know much about the situation you're coming from... for me, it's nice to be able to think over pleasantries like that. Distractions are quite welcome." What started as a wistful smile became quite bold. "Especially when they involve you." Couldn't help but being a bit saucy about it, it seemed.

"All right." No further assertions about her temperature resilience, and no weird questions or comments. Just quiet acceptance. Well, that went along with an admiring look in her eye and some happy tail swishing, but still. It was one thing to be ambitious and coquettish in private. But she'd been given what she considered a rare chance and was determined to approach it with the greatest of care. Provided that she could figure out his puzzle, anyway.

Well, at least he'd acknowledged what she'd said. It would definitely be out of character for him to suddenly pour his heart out, wouldn't it? And while it was unlikely she'd be his confidant any time soon, having almost normal conversations was definitely nice. The 'almost' for the most part being her fault, with her odd subjects for conversation and excess of enthusiasm. It hadn't seemed to have been detrimental so far, provided that the conversation was punctuated with more normal subjects at times. She was sure to nod at his acknowledgment, satisfied with getting so much as that.

"Hnn~" There might've been a tiny sound of frustration just then. But her determination outweighed any complaining she could do, for once. "Would you want something you'd make for yourself, then? Or something sweet?" Two different guesses. Hopefully he wouldn't lump them together and not tell her what part was right or wrong. Even if he did, she wouldn't give up so easily.

Her expression soured at the very idea. "I don't want to even think about how it could've been worse." There were all sorts of bizarre possibilities that had somehow been avoided for that particular matter. Though she couldn't help but be the slightest bit amused by it. "Either of us lacking clothes at the time surely would have made things entirely too complicated." No nudity or dead bodies. No chains involved either. Just some hurt feelings and painful tears. In retrospect it really did seem like she'd gotten off easy, especially with some of the more strange things that could've happened.

"If I made it for myself, I would make it all day and eat it all the time, wouldn't I?" Someone should really scold him for his choice in food. "But then again, you guessed that part right, I do make it for myself. No one else wants any." No one at the moment, that is. "Perhaps they are sick of it." So what was the point of the little riddle again? He did not really expect her to try and make it, anyway. For fun, he supposed. Just a strange little game.

"..... I doubt that would have ended well." Certainly not favorable to them, but perhaps amusing to the audience involved. And maybe a lot more awkward meetings and scoldings. Had to be happy that that was avoided! "The both of us would be in a lot more trouble if it were that way." Hard to say what Miyabi might have thought about it. A lecture might not be enough to cover it!

Somehow his question amused her. "Heh, no need to get testy about it~" He wasn't the one that had to make some sort of impossible guess, after all. "Is it something tomato? I mean, other than what you've brought me, that's all you've mentioned..." Tomato what? Something weirdly tomato? Just something weird in general? 'No one else wants any' was an odd comment for anything that could be considered normal, anyway.

She couldn't help but sigh. He was correct, of course. "That would've just been unsexy regardless, wouldn't it." Him freezing the room and her probably being overwhelmed to the point of passing out. Too much too soon. Her disappointment became curiosity at his latter comment. "In trouble with who? Her, you mean?" Miyabi was gaining a weird reputation for herself through her overprotective actions. "She likely assumes we're already involved in such a fashion. Seeing my face exceeds any physical intimacy, remember." Said in quite the matter-of-fact fashion, that was. "She wouldn't be surprised about that. She was shocked that we'd gone beyond that, in her eyes." She had to laugh a bit about that. Definitely easy to laugh about it when for the time being they weren't in danger of being scolded. "Telling her otherwise would get you questioned and scolded. In all the worst ways. 'Why not?' 'Isn't she pretty enough for you?' 'Don't you love her back?'" The nausea that resulted from the idea of being cornered with those questions was plain to see on her face. "Regardless of what I'd like to do with you, it's really not her business to interfere or--" She seized up with a sound between horror and disgust. "--'help.' I don't want it. I'm tired of being rushed and pressured." She looked both frustrated and a little guilty. "Hopefully I haven't been too hard on you, in that way." She had her own inner turmoil over all of that. "I just... want to be close to you." Hiding in the bedding again wouldn't excuse her of the responsibility of such a statement, but she did it anyway.

After sulking for a while, she reappeared. At least from the eye up, eye eyeing the cookies as a welcome distraction. "Shall I get started on those? Seems a waste, to have them untouched when you made them especially for me." She was muffled from hiding, but still sounded happy enough.

"Tomato something." More like tomato everything, and the cryptic clues at this point more or less were going to point to nothing else more specific. "The rest is up to your improvisation. Well done." Riddle (more or less?) solved, but he was already hoping she would not decide to make the idea take the cake in terms of birthday parties and absurdness. Best be prepared for that, however, given her usual enthusiasm.

He shook his head. "Not just her, though yes I admit I'm worried about that too." But his mind nearly ground to a stop at that. Uh oh, that was kind of why he had failed to grace that question still strung over their heads with a definite answer. "Perhaps she's simply worried. The both of you seem close, after all." Oh yeah, he had not asked about their relation. A very close friend then? Maybe. He decided to leave her to her sulking, in favor of not letting his hand pet the bobbing red under the sheets.

"If you wish, and still have the space for it." He picks up his now-empty cup to place on the table. "But don't force yourself. We still know who would probably be the most angry if you end up having a stomachache."

"Tomato everything!" She'd unintentionally mimicked the narration. Well, she couldn't help but feel excited. Wasn't every day that she got praise from the likes of him, after all. Still, she eventually settled down, giving a more appropriate response to the matter. "I mean. I think I have an idea." Something more like a series of ideas, that didn't involve a huge amount of food. She could argue that the more she made and brought showed just how much he was loved, but no need to make a scene and embarrass him in that way. "Though... why tomato?" The idea that came to mind was probably way off, but still funny. "Though they are basically balls of sugar, aren't they~" Not overtly sweet, but they still were.

That was a bit of unpleasant information. "More than just her? Why? And why should anyone care in the first place? Mrr~" Amarante wasn't an exemplary adult but what she interpreted as being treated as a child went too far as far as she was concerned. She definitely looked discouraged, but ultimately stayed resolute. "I'll do whatever I have to, for your sake. It's just hard enough on both of us without any outside interference." Her body tightened as she recalled just how deeply that went, voice low and faltering. "It's tiring, hearing whispers here and there that I shouldn't like you or that someone else 'deserves' you more." She still didn't have much confidence in her feelings, but was unwilling to be pushed around by others about them anymore. "Even if I am an 'unworthy' choice, it's none of their business. It was never for them to decide." She didn't have the courage to continue down that path, feeling too vulnerable to provide him with the perfect chance to reject her.

A great deal of sadness still remained in her voice as she changed subjects, though some amusement had made its way in as well. "Do the two of us seem close? I suppose she has taken to me quite well, considering." A pretty mysterious statement, by itself. Neither would mind him knowing the truth of the matter. But neither would go out of her way to tell him, either.

She began to look more cheerful, eager to assure him that she was up for the task. "I can eat a lot, you know? My body excels at the production of energy~" Her eating habits tended to not be the most healthy as a result, but she avoided elaborating upon that to avoid a scolding. "Besides, nothing feels forced when it comes to you~" Back to spouting admiration at him it seemed.

Now that he thought about it, it actually never occurred why he thought tomatoes went on everything. Uh oh. Why, exactly? That... was another question he had no idea as to the actual answer. "Sweet and sour, I guess. And easy enough to eat."

"How would I know. Don't worry about it, it's just them being uptight. Or jealous. I'm not sure which." Never asked, though the doubts were there. There was that vague memory of eavesdropping at the door of his room on a certain two people's conversation, but he had not followed his suspicions about it at that time. Perhaps those suspicions might just have some actual basis to them now. "I don't think... I don't think it's a matter of choice, however. That conversation would not fit in if it were for that reason. You make it sound as though people were all vying for me or something?" A joke, no less, but then again only someone that dense could make that into a joke.

That was a yes, a definite yes. Other than the elf she shot at sometimes, and maybe that ah... She was certainly loose around them, but Miyabi felt different, somehow. Hmm. Was it because he had observed that only her chiding would actually work on Amarante? Or maybe that was wrong, people actually scolded her all the time. That was not a stable logic jump he could follow. "Why yes. I... I assumed she's a close friend of yours." But following that logic, maybe he was wrong. Oh well, leave that to the people who needed them.

"I repeat, don't force yourself. Even if you can down the tin in one go, there's always going to be a limit somewhere, right?" Assuming that her anatomy had limits, even. And there was a limit at how much offhand flattering he could take without his face burning up, too. She's cutting it close again!

His unsure answer was met with quite the sly look. "Oh, I wonder if that philosophy applies to other preferences you might have." Dirty-minded as usual, but she wouldn't let the original subject be lost as a result. "I'll make you something good! Leave it to me~"

One moment she was relaxing thanks to his assurance. The very next, tensing up in response to what she saw as carelessness. Usually she was fine with his lack of awareness, but the subject in question was still incredibly bittersweet for her. "Heh. It must be very easy for you to joke about it when even now you shrug off any responsibility." Her words were calm, and her voice sobered. Any sort of emotional manipulation seemed futile. But perhaps stating the facts for what they were would make some sort of difference where it mattered. "In some cruel twist of fate, somehow all of the others were those I'd considered friends. So... getting this far has hardly been painless." Having a moment's peace where her heart wasn't being wrenched all around was something she valued very highly. Even if in actuality she'd paid the price for every moment of it. "Some of them really were my friends. Some weren't, though." Still feeling gutted over all of it her head hung naturally, that sense of betrayal weighing heavily upon her heart. She lifted her head in an attempt to show she was all right, but all she could offer him was a pained smile. "I'm not trying to rush your decision. But please do have some consideration when you speak upon the matter."

"We've only known each other for a few years now. Would you believe that?" Well, she'd managed a similar emotional affinity for him in all of a few months, so maybe it wasn't that unusual. What followed definitely was though, as was the proud way in which it was presented. "I made her. Outside of normal means, I mean. Quite the successful experiment, isn't she?" Of course there was much more to it. But that alone was probably enough to take in for the time being.

There was really only one thing she could take from all of that, and the fact that he kept repeating similar things. "Do you really worry about me that much?" Uttered quietly, and curiously. Red eye locked with red eyes for a moment, snapping free when shyness began to set in.

"W-What is that supposed to mean?" Oh, she was going to run with it, oh yes she was. Please don't let any strange ideas get into her head! Wait, there's probably a nice idea fountain going already like this. Can't stop that, so he'd just have to put up with whatever she thought of. Good thing food poisoning no longer affected him! "Thank you, and no pressure." Would be bad if someone came into that room and found it full to the brim of whatever she had cooked up.

Ack! Oh no, oh no, he had let his tongue shoot himself in the knee again! "Um! Umm.... T-There's a reason why. I don't know it, but I need to go look it up before I can answer it." He was going to have to come clean one day, but somehow spurting it all out now would be an odd thing for him to do. "Ap - .... I'm sorry. I shall be more mindful of my words in the future."

Right, um, topic diversion! At once!

"Made her?" She was artificial? No wait, that cannot be it, surely a robot could not display that level of - ah wait, taking into consideration both Gumi and - whoa! "Have to say, I'm impressed," he said, clapping his hands. "But that doesn't mean that she's any less of a person, if that's what you're getting at."

Did he? Hmm... Was it not his job to worry about others? Was she any different from them? ".... Force of habit. Apologies. Perhaps I did bring something out of the labs after all." He could not deny the extra layer of anxiousness he had for her especially, however. Hey, waaaait a minute. Redirecting the thought train in process...

"What do I mean by the flirting, or what do I mean by saying that I'll do my best?" Having fun playing dumb was easier and nicer than taking it as an opportunity to lower the room temperature through increasing his level of discomfort. There'd surely be plenty of other opportunities to do that anyway. "You should only be worried if I try to make some sort of tomato cake, shouldn't you? And I can ask for help with that." Somehow the idea of a tomato cake didn't bother her in the least, cheerfully smiling all the while. "I'm definitely excited to start on it... but also nervous... I mean, I'm good at cooking, and good at being social, but this is kind of important, so~" Either the 'no pressure' had been missed or just ignored. Well, she didn't look too bothered anyway. Maybe just a bit anxious.

While the answers she'd received didn't necessarily negate any uncertainty she had, she didn't hesitate to affirm her trust. "All right." She'd question that 'reason' but it really wasn't a subject she wanted to become a focus of their time together. She'd really only meant for it to come up once. The second was simply assurance that it wasn't the motive behind an explanation, so maybe in that way it wasn't as bad? Regardless, he'd acknowledged it instead of avoiding it. And her feelings were being taken into consideration? Nice changes all around. "And, thank you." She bore a small smile out of obviously being pleased but didn't feel it necessary to press the matter more for the time being.

The assertion of Miyabi's status as a person was something Amarante found a little endearing and of course very kind of him. "Heh, of course she's a person. Though..." She couldn't help but be a little mysterious again. "I have to wonder what you think she is. Demon? Robot? Both? Neither?" An odd sort of question to be amused over, so it probably wouldn't hurt to elaborate. "She'd be the first to assert to you what she was or wasn't, if you asked her. It's a fair question!"

"Why should you be sorry for being concerned?" That feeling of amusement didn't last long, shifting unexpectedly and fully into abashed mode. "I don't mean to make you worry, but... it's nice that you do. No one really does... I mean, about me." Back to timidly avoiding eye contact and clutching nervously at an empty cup. Maybe sighing would help. "Ah~ My life has gotten a lot more safe and sanitary with you in it." The things she'd given up had been relatively unimportant, but it seemed like all it took was an offhanded suggestion from him to have her reconsidering something. Definitely a strange occurrence, as far as she was concerned. But not an unwelcome one. "I really don't mind. Not at all." The usual affectionate offering of both a smile and tail swishing made the honesty in that statement that quite clear.

"... But you can only do that once I manage to find the file." Stalling for as much time as he could, in the event he could not hold off any tomato-plus-cake equation mishaps.

"Umm.... Demon, then?" Though appearance-wise, it was hard to guess. Pointed ears and pale skin, but then he could not put it past technology to construct something easily mistaken for the real thing. "It's my turn to play the guessing game, huh."

Give the straightforward answer, then. "Normally it'd make people even more motivated to get into trouble." As the patients have shown him time and time again. "But I think in both of our cases, worrying is not going to do much to deter trouble from coming along, is it?" By this time he was already used to worrying about people that got into trouble nearly all the time.

Four keen ears caught the lack of an 'if' in that statement, but a sentimental mind chose to keep that tidbit to itself. Better to address the meat, err, cake of the matter. "Oh, is that something you wanted for your birthday?" Still not the least bit bothered by the idea of a tomato cake, and still bright-eyed and bushy-tailed about the possibility of helping craft such a creation. Though perhaps a little disappointed that it'd been deemed off limits for the time being. "Ah~ I will have to manage something else in the meantime, then. Tomato tarts? Tomato crepes? Tomato biscuits? Oh, I bet tomato would lend itself well to a clafoutis..." A variety of choices fit within the parameter of her idea, but the idea that he assumed she was being ridiculous as usual certainly gave her pause. "I'm really not going to make that much food. Not much at all! Really, I promise!" A nervous statement complete with awkward and defensive gesturing probably wasn't very convincing, but with any luck he'd give her the benefit of the doubt and trust her judgment.

She was too delightfully proud to play a game with such information. "Merely a cursory sort of inquiry. Why force you to guess when it's something that I enjoy boldly declaring whenever I can?" That look of pride deepened, becoming both dangerous and rather shameless. "A deity. I made a deity." A demon making a god. How plausible he'd find that she didn't know, but a cheerfully helpful disclaimer was something she felt was necessary. "I wouldn't suggest it. It's incredibly illegal to do. A person ends up arrested! And imprisoned!" The eye that was brightly carefee suddenly burned with a ferocious vengeance. "But, I had a point to prove. A grudge to fulfill." Though even that didn't last long, bitter feelings shrugged off with an almost helpless sigh. "My sentence surely would have been lighter if I'd let them destroy her and my research, but..." She merely shook her head, without the least bit of hesitation. No words were necessary to defend that decision.

"Hnn~" Being put into the general grouping of 'people' wasn't the nicest thing, but maybe she'd brought it upon herself by pointing it out in the first place. "Surely there are more ways to seek your attention that won't possibly lead you to resent me." Annoy? Perhaps, even if it wasn't her intention. But resent? Just the idea of being hated or avoided made her heart sink a little. "But even if that's true, that worrying can't prevent anything awful from happening..." He wasn't wrong. But the idea of letting him use logic to erase feelings, whether hers or his own, didn't sit right with her. The bullet still hurts even if it can't kill you, yes?" She felt clever, remembering that. Without really meaning to she'd ended up a bit huffy over it for whatever reason. "Nothing wrong with being concerned for someone you care about, tch. Maybe it's not comforting to you, but..." The slight irritation gave way to a more discouraged feeling. "To me, it is. It's comforting to know that I matter." The itchy logic that she simply wasn't as important to him as he was to her persisted, but it wasn't as if that was something she was unaware of. No need to state it aloud and allow any upset over it to actually develop, though.

The smart remark that followed indicated that she wasn't actually angry over the matter, at least. "And still you won't feed me~"

"Well, it would be a pain to transport a large load of tomato-based food anywhere, I'd imagine." Proved by a failed prank, the results of which noted for future reference. "I made tomato biscuits before, if you'd like I can give you a recipe. Tomato crepes..." Jumping the birthday question! The subject of crepes.... Hm. A stiff lip-biting was all he could do to board up the door of memory with. It's no use, that bond was probably broken for good. On to something else before the sharp girl took note of his extended silence!

"You.... what?" Nope, not believing a single word. A god, being an entity that could be created? Other than completely upending one of the basal assumptions he had made about his job, he had also completely underestimated the person sitting before him. Perhaps he did get into something way over his head again? Keep that face impassive, though, showing any fear now might lead to serious consequences. For comfort's sake, however, he resorted to clutching his cup harder, a tiny outline of frost forming around his fingers. Other than that, calm for now. "That's... That's some dedication for someone who wronged you so badly."

"Um. Yes?" Thanks to modified anatomy, everywhere hurt with the same intensity, from a shot to the finger to a shot to the head. "If you insist, then. So I can worry my heart's content over you, is that it?" Told with an air of amusement, but hardly the topic of a joke to him.

"A-Ah! You're hungry?" Immediately his cup was placed on the floor, the lid of cookies picked up and one held within biting proximity of her mouth. How could he, as a doctor, allow a patient to go hungry? Shame on him!

She decided to give him the benefit of the doubt, assuming the best of what his logic had come up with as she sighed with some relief. "I hope that means that you've been assured that I'm not going to do that, then." Quietly studying him for a moment, she made a decision. "Hnn. Suddenly I don't like any of those ideas." Whether it was due to noticing his odd behavior or simply because of her fickle nature was unclear. The cheerful teasing that followed didn't indicate any reason other than playfulness. "So then you'll really have no idea of what you're getting! Other than tomato~" She hadn't even started and already it was fun.

His fear must've gone unnoticed, if the cute laugh in response to his reaction was any indication. "Not even going to ask me how? Though maybe it isn't important..." Most people probably wouldn't question the method used when being presented with such an outrageous statement. "It's still true. I'm merely a geneticist, really. Just a matter of getting the right genetic information in the right equipment and I could probably make most anything." She didn't consider it to be a big deal, but it was still part of her life that he needed to know about. "If you don't believe me, ask her. She'll tell you the same thing. Though you might get scolded, too." A bit of a smirk came with that last part. It was definitely a strange topic of conversation but it didn't have to be completely heavy. Her expression softened further as she continued. "As soon as she was old enough, she made the effort to take the position of watching over me for herself. I'm not considered dangerous, but considering everything happened because I'd gone unchecked due to my previous status as clan leader..." What surfaced on her face next could only be described as mischief. "Of course they're going to check up on me." She'd flashed a bright smile just then, but it didn't last. Seemed that the time for any pride over the issue had passed. "I don't even think about it anymore, really. Miya trusts that I'm going to behave and we like spending time together regardless." Soothed by the sole consolation of the bond with Miyabi, the regret she expressed over the consequences of her actions was limited but still very much present. "It's not as if I actually have the freedom to utilize my skills as I wish now anyway. I have no interest in having my body mangled again and being imprisoned permanently. My services are the reserved right of my celestial captors. If they want me to create some sort of monstrosity who am I to question their divine purposes?" Some resentment was starting to come across in her words, but there was something more important that she wanted to clarify. "Even with what I've done, I'm basically no one. Okay?" The blunt words and bright expression were definitely mismatched, but still an honest attempt to assure him. "They made an example of me, marked me, and threw me away. See?" Without hesitation she finally showed him her left wrist, drawing attention to the ornate pale blue brand below her palm. "Anyone important enough in your line of work should know exactly what this is. Indicates the fact that I've been captured, my prisoner rank, and that I'm out on release. So I can only hope that if someone like that is annoying or threatening us we can flash it at them and they'll go away." That was all she'd wanted, really. Just for the two of them to be left alone. A simple wish that was anything but simple to achieve, unfortunately.

"Aaa~ Point being, it still hurts! Even if you won't die from it, it's not like I'd want you to be in pain either! Hmph." Still childishly bickering. Someone would tell them to get a room if they weren't already in one. "Surely you like me enough to not want me to be in pain either?" She was still ridiculously pouting so it wasn't as if it was actually meant to be a question to gauge his interest. His amusement was enough to bring her out of her puerile mood, as she started to smile again. "At least you don't seem to think I'm the type to insist otherwise. Good." And of course she had to delightfully elaborate, at least a little. "Having you concerned for me and looking out for me? How could I complain?" Bad wording on her part. Surely she'd find a way!

"That's better." As if him feeding her was getting her way, somehow. Most people would probably gingerly take the cookie and eat it that way, but apparently she was fine with being fed. Carefully she took a small bite, afterwards taking her time to properly assess and enjoy the cookie as she chewed. "G-good~" She looked at him with an expression that could definitely be described as enraptured. Over a cookie? Still determined to keep herself unfrozen for the day, she mentally anchored herself down in an attempt to keep herself from doing anything rash. "I wouldn't mind if you made things for me more often. I really wouldn't." Implications were easier than asking or demanding outright it seemed. "But, I want to make things for you too, so~" In her own blushy and almost timid way she was attempting to suggest that it would always be a tradeoff anyway, though it definitely and unintentionally came off as both sides of tsundere.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 31, 2014 1:36 am

"Close enough. Can't go wrong with that, at least." Even a crate of tomatoes to the head could make him wonder if someone was being nice to him that day. Even so, he still had no idea how to properly act at the prospect of someone getting him something. Would probably be on the lookout in case any boxes or the sort sprung up in his room for no reason. Might be her. Or might be um... suspicious packages that he should not open. Right. Can't really be the latter, therefore!

Now that part, even the fellow with dark eyes was interested to hear. "So gods have genetics as well? Formed the same way every other living being is? I wonder what's the difference between them and the rest of us mortals, then." Somehow, he was a little less focused on the potential of attaining power with such technology, preferring to focus only on the scientific parts. Both of them, actually. "If that is the case, then..." Once again his books were wrong. Out comes that notebook in a flash, and a few quick scribbles later was tucked away in his pocket again with another interesting topic to research on. Taking her warning into consideration, however. "Don't worry, I'm not going to try and make one. It's useful information to know. And I'm certainly not having my sentence added to by immortals."

Oops, now he was regretting not having left at least one person of higher authority in the church alive. He could ask, but what to do. Asking a cold jar of powder was hardly informative, was it? But he took note, in case he had to see that same brand again. "How... ironic," he could not help but comment. Two prisoners having a sit-down-and-chat with each other, over cookies and coffee and niceties beyond bars. "Strange to have someone closer than I imagined to talk to freely, without the prospect of getting clawed or slashed at, or being watched. It's a nice change of pace."

"Oh, really. Somehow I thought people did not realise that pain is still present." Snapping back from sarcasm to curiosity with the topic change, he studied the cookie with the bite in it. "It doesn't taste too sweet? I might have put too sweet a chocolate in, or too much sugar... That's what I get for not tasting them before packing them, then." Unthinkingly he popped the half-eaten cookie into his mouth. "Hmm. I probably should cut down the sugar, I can't gauge how sweet it is by my own taste. It's probably too sweet since I can't taste the sweetness." A bit of flawed logic there, coming from someone so attached to answers and explanations. "Next time I'm making these for you I'll go pick out some darker chocolate, but that also means I have to hold back more on the sugar in case it was supposed to make up for the bitterness."

'Close enough'? Though it could sometimes work to her detriment she couldn't help but continue find some sort of odd enjoyment in his blunt logic, humming to herself some as she had one last bit of fun with the subject. "Of course, there's also the matter of what kind of tomato~ Though I wouldn't doubt that you'd like them all." Certainly seemed like a subject she'd end up learning a lot about and willingly so.

She took the question seriously, even if the answer was a little lighthearted. "They'd pretty much have to, wouldn't they? So much mythology with so-and-so begot this or that~" Amarante definitely didn't think much of being assumed to be the seducing and corrupting type when the gods were the ones with dedicated lore to who made what and how. "It'd be difficult to find more colorful and creative euphemisms than the ones present in creation myths, for sure." With a bit of a humorously dismissive shrug, she approached the topic more seriously. "But I digress. I probably should've studied the cells themselves more..." Most she could do at that fact was sigh. In pursuit of her goal she'd been hasty. "I'd ceased research and started production when I'd found what I wanted. That celestial and infernal cells were indeed very similar. That's what I'd wanted to prove, really. That the creatures that had looked down their noses at me since my lifespan started weren't so different from me after all." Her eye narrowed with some resentment just thinking about it. More of an aside than on topic, but her motives for doing such a crazy thing in the first place probably required some clarification anyway. Regaining her composure with a quick inhale and exhale, she went further into the details of the matter. "They have a similar sort of super cell that regulates various body functions. Which was more problematic than I'd expected. Because the surrogate system, well, homogenizes things and the dominant traits win. Which is surely a basic principle of genetics, but what happens when you pit two powerful cell structures against each other?" Her face reflected entirely too much impishness for what seemed to be a question regarding a large scale accident in the making. "Things mess up, things break, and you get caught. That's what~" She had to laugh a little at herself. Her recklessness had cost her greatly, even if what she'd sought ended up proven as true. And self-pitying laughs ended in a softly contented laugh in response to his assurance. There he went again, somehow making her like him even more. It was for the best that she'd mostly grown out of her phase of trying incredibly hard to impress him, lest she end up declaring her affections for him at every opportune moment. Nope, not this time. Just bowing her head ever so slightly, happiness obvious but not overstated in the form of a small smile and affected look in her eye. "I can't say that I've encountered anyone else that was curious about it that didn't want to use me as a tool for their own means. It's really... refreshing." Detailing the unlikelihood of that situation couldn't hurt, though. "Besides~ You'd need the genetic material and access to the surrogate system. And even if you managed to swing that! As much as I enjoy spending time with you I'd rather it not be spent tortured in a celestial prison until the end of time, with Miyabi hating us for the rest of her unending life." Scary possibilities, even if they were presented in an irreverent fashion.

Her eye went wide at the word that fell quite sharply upon her ears. "'Sentence'? Then..." The initial shock gave way to a somber sort of realization in all of a moment. "You, too." The resulting feelings were a mix between relief that together they both had someone that wouldn't first and foremost judge that status and use it as a weapon as necessary as most people were wont to do... and some sadness that they shared that status and the stigma that went with it in the first place. "If you'd ever like to talk about it, I'd like to hear it. But I understand if that's never the case." The related particulars he'd just shared certainly had her bristling. "C-clawed? Slashed? Do I want to know?" He was more than capable of taking care of himself, but her protective nature wasn't subject to reason. But enough of that, he'd definitely said something she liked. "If I can be any sort of comfort to you, that makes me happy." No need to get all flowery about it, but she didn't see any harm in encouraging something she liked either.

Of course, the best response to him being immature was to continue being immature. Not with words, but flattening her cat ears while making annoyed sounds and giving him indignant glances did just as well. Though it seemed that the discussion of sweetness was enough to bring an end to her petty posturing. "Not in pain and still conscious, so not too sweet." She nodded, satisfied with her matter-of-fact statement that neither said conclusions had been met. Maybe she had something else to say on the matter, but she was instantly quieted upon observing him eat the rest of the cookie. Most wouldn't give such an occurrence a second thought but it was enough to flood a sentimental mind like hers with plenty of sweet ideas. If indirectly their lips could meet without him giving much notice, then... could they... ah. Putting too much thought into it as usual, but it was difficult to contain those thoughts once they'd been sparked. She fought off being completely lost to her romantic thoughts and the resulting blush the best she could, attempting to continue the conversation and hoping that he was too lost in thoughts about sugar and cookies to really notice otherwise. "The caramel and cherry lend themselves to sweetness too, of course!" Chocolate was a soothing subject so it certainly helped things along nicely. "I don't mind some bitterness, as far as flavor goes, but I'd have to guess that is not the case for you~" There was the possibility of him surprising her by stating otherwise, but she highly doubted there being any truth in that idea.
